Damn, that final fight was pretty epic, the animation studio ended this anime on a high note. Ayato has a Harem which is pretty good in my opinion especially when it involves likable female leads, for example: Claudia. Honestly, this blew my expectations out of the water and it was entertaining. The atmosphere of this anime could be distrusting or fishy since most of the other characters are shrouded in secrets or trying underhanded methods which further draws my curiosity. The only thing that worries me is about Ayato's sister which will possibly be answered in the next season. Anyways, Awesome anime and I got to give credit to the studio for doing a great job. Easily 8-8.5/10. Also, comparing this to Rakudai is an insult to the studio and the author. Please respect their works.
Side Note:Team Claudia, Damn Ayato why can't you look at Claudia?lol

The fight was very enjoyable, although Ayato looked really weird during one of his attacks. At least he and Julis won in the end. Predictable, but that's not always a bad thing, you know. =)

Julis was REALLY close to kissing Ayato. Shame that that moment was interrupted with the arrival of Saya, Kirin and Claudia, who have no problem shoving Ayato into their chests. Lucky bastard Ayato...

The first cour of the series was pretty good. Generic at times, but the main cast are pretty likeable, the art and animation was very good, save for one or two Festa battles where the quality was thrown out of window briefly.

Soundtrack was also enjoyable, with the ED song being my favourite for this anime season as a whole.

Overall, I will rate the first cour of The Asterisk Wars a 7/10. Looking forward to the second cour, hopefully filled with more powerful opponents and maybe some unexpected surprises thrown into the mix as well. =D

I'll give it a 3 out of 10, ratings would have been higher if it weren't for that interrupted kiss and amount of halfass work gone into this series.

And the ending, seriously? One scene the protagonist gets his face covered with girls' chest, then a supporting character standing in the hall talking to himself, and suddenly the credit rolls. It's like A1 has already given up on this series and just want it to end.

No wonder the anime industry is failing.

Wait, how are Ayato and Julis supposed to win any battle from now on since everyone knows all they have to do is last for 5 minutes?

There is an entire segment about characters discussing about Ayato's secret being out with varying opinions, Ayato-Julis talking about their secret being out and the next match briefly and other characters talking about Ayato's sister being involved in something big........the hints are there. 1/3 of the episode was done to hype people hype for the second course.

2nd course and if the next match is even half-done right, it will be pretty awesome. Ayato can't use his powers for the next match due to the feedback from this one.

Hokuto Sakiyama animated that scene - check this compilation of his scenes out. he's a rather famous young animator known for his surreal animation style akin to that of his idol Shinya Ohira. so it naturally doesn't resemble the series' look whatsover.

I enjoyed the series a lot. 8/10

I quite enjoyed the Surreal Slash, it added more impact to the fact he extended the time limit forcefully. I will watch S2 and read LN if I can.

I don't get why people stay watching a series if they hate it. I keep watching all series I put on my list for a season unless I absolutely hate a character(s), it's terribly rushed or CGI is just bad (above two were why I stopped watching Taimadou for example).

That was a pretty disappointing fight for a series that had basically only the fight scenes going for it. Terrible choreography, mainly consisting of flashy explosions and badly animated screaming. They tried to add an alternative artstyle in there as if to make the decisive stroke seem more powerful but it mainly came off as amusing to me.

The plot of the anime itself was incredibly cliche and the characters your LN cardboard cutouts, nothing worth mentioning. The anime was pretty much Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry except boring as fuck, whereas Cavalry had the fight scenes and god tier fanservice going for it. 3/10

I honestly don't know why people praise the animations and choregraphy of the fights in this show. They are really piss poor, low budget and makes no sense whatsoever. Like if I was to compare Rakudai's fight scenes to this one, there would be no contest as that show would totally shit on this one.

Well...there was that Ed song LOL. Honestly though, this wouldn't be too bad if they'd left out the harem element and had a smattering of Cavalry-esque romance between Ayato and Julius - in other words, rewritten the whole thing. The world-building and music are superior in Asterisk imho.

that cliffhanger wtf

well at least it gets a sequel. just saw it on the anime page. Before that I was kinda annoyed that they had to show that last scene.

Definitely going to watch. But I have to say I kinda miss a little bit of story. I mean there is a lot going on but it usually excludes the main character. And while there is something he is pursuing it basically feels like a side story compared to all the other stuff that is happening.

Sylvia seems potential best girl. Damn don't make me want to watch the S2 just to see her, this sucks so bad... Julis trying to steal the kiss was cute tho. Claudia and Saya kept the things interesting, but even that didn't help much. 5/10, it was bleh. I feel like S2 will be a lil bit better though.

I'm kind of disappointed with this toward the end... kind of getting boring... and the lack of Kirin is disturbing.

I'd probably watch the sequel just for Saya and Kirin only and not the story.

The characters are too many and most of them have no development at all. I mean we got Saya who was the childhood friend and that's it. We got Kirin who was abused by the uncle and turned 180 degree after meeting Ayato. We got Claudia who just appeared out of nowhere as fanservice and yandere-ish weird thing. We got Julis who was a princess of some sort and I know nothing else of her.

Now they're going to introduce new characters like Sylvia and others. I hope they don't overkill the series with more harem characters. They haven't done justice to the main harem either.

7/10. Originally 6/10 if Kirin didn't do what she does at the end. Also what's with the cliff hanger? They can't spare 1 or 2 seconds before cutting it off? -_-

That animation thing they decided to do was horrible. The fight was average, his fight against Kirinn was still the best, the first one.

Actually wished there was progression with the girls but meh, typical harem cockblocks.

Well, guess we'll have to wait for s2.

Episode not exciting as I had hoped, but the clash was not bad, quite convincingly even though the victory was in the air Ayato, drawings and animations good, I hope the 2nd cour is much more convincing, even if all the anime series, It was not bad, considering that some points I liked. Opening and ending cute and catchy.

For now my rating is 7.5 / 10, the middle point, is encouraging.

Well to say that there was something new is like to be super hyped for 2nd season.
Pretty average shounen-harem anime like hundreds others and that was prety much expected.
Manga started quite a while ago and for the first chapters it was a bit entertaining, but nothing more plus including monthly updates. And then the anime came out and i can't came up with anything special about this series.
But i'm gonna watch 2nd season beacuse of stupid rule i set for myself to continue the previously watched series :(

^ Is she really dead? The seal on Ayato suggests she's still alive unless the seal is permanent regardless of weather she's dead or alive. Don't jump to too many conclusions, even if her glasses were no longer with her. It was pretty obvious he had encounters with her though. The ending just clarified it.

Animation was above average.
Characters were previously used tropes that already exist.
The story was basically Blade dance with a few small alterations.
It was average pretty much most of the time. I did enjoy it at certain times , while it dragged a bit more at others.
I hope the romance get's developed in S2.
5/10 From me. Hope S2 is less "generic" and tries to establish itself a bit more.

Regarding the episode, it was predictable. The art during his transformation was original but not beautiful :/ Julis was nearly about to kissed him, but no, the harem interrupted them.

Fights with nothing but explosions pretty much sums up all the fight scenes in this anime. A-1 thinks that if they litter the screen with explosions we wouldn't notice the terrible animations and the nonsensical fighting patterns.

At least Rakudai bothered to make interesting fights with actual strategy thrown in other than see who can cause the bigger explosions.

There's never been a shortage of harem, school life, and action series coming out of Japan. But while Gakusen Toshi Asterisk suffers from some generic flaws,* it's definitely far above average as far as the genre is concerned. Maybe that's just because the genre as a whole is a wasteland,** but I rather enjoyed the series as a light watch when I'm just sitting in front of my desk looking to kill some time. At least you can tell that they tried to make it a good series, which is more than you can say about a lot of series...

*: Female characters falling for main left and right, obvious black hand in the background as a backstory, ecchi elements, etc. The puzzling thing about ecchi in this series is that it doesn't even sell the ecchi all that much, so one wonders why it's in there at all.
**: Recent examples include Seiken Tsukai no World Break and
Seirei Tsukai no Blade Dance.

thats one fight scene and I will admit it is the best one that this show had to offer but that isn't saying much. This show tries to cover up the poorly done fights by making it extremely fast paced (forgot to mention this in my previous post) or spamming spell for explosions. These shit won't fool anyone if they were to rewind back to the fights and pay attention to it instead of being zoned out which is what usually happens in these scenarios.

My point is despite the fact that adults are technically present, it almost seems if they have no actual bearing on anything that's going on between the academies. Rather, the student council presidents are portrayed as having much more clout than anyone else, even the supposed administrators and what not, which is a common anime trope.

However, I will concede that there is still another 12 episodes to go, and I'm an anime-only viewer, so my knowledge base is limited to only what we've been shown thus far. Also, maybe there's something I'm totally forgetting that was shown in earlier episodes, but that's just a testament to how much (or little) this show engaged me.

Don't get me wrong though, it was still a fun watch.

What a garbage season finale. The fight was devoid of any tension at all, not only because it was obvious who would win the match, but the show did a horrible job leading up to it. There is zero emotional stake here, none of the characters involved were interesting, so it was impossible for me to feel anything but apathy. Not to mention the episode was just poorly paved, and really felt like it was merely going through the motions of a fight rather than making it the least bit involviblng. What a waste of time.

I like tough tomboys. Too bad she and her sister weren't added to the harem.

I was pretty underwhelmed by this show. I heard it was supposed to be terrific, so I was excited to watch it at first, but I just wasn't very hot on it. The main character is unbearably boring, the world itself was boring, and the concept of fighting these battles is boring.

The ogre lux's are beginning to become more interesting however, and all the girls are cute. I'll be watching the second cour, but I still wasn't impressed. 6/10
