It was a good show, but many things don't make sense to me: What was the point behind going into that room for 15 years? So she secretly had her child there, so what? She could have done that somewhere else, and then lived with her in secret. She was free to go wherever she wanted at that point. Why did she choose a room at the lab? For what purpose did she want to raise her daughter for 15 years, only to have her and the director be killed off after that point? Also, her daughter never saw the outside world, how was she supposed to pretend she's Magata Shiki? Why did she eventually kill the director, and after 15 years? Why did she kill her parents? It didn't grant her or the director the 'freedom' they wanted. There were many other ways to solve the situation without killing them. And after she already killed them, why didn't she kill her aunt too? That way she could have run off with her beloved uncle. Why did her uncle agree to all of this? Why would she make this elaborate plan 7 years prior, even going into that room to hide the existence of her child, only to eventually publicly let everyone know of all that has happened? Several plot holes: 15 years + giving birth + raising a child at such a young age, without medical attention or any outside help? She didn't even have diapers. Also, a simple autopsy would reveal that Shiki's dauther had no molars and therefore was definitely not 29. |

It was said that Shiki planned for this escape for atleast 7 years and she said ýes, so best case scenario would be that she just brainwashed the daughter you know. The uncle knew of this day and that he'd be killed by her from the get-go also, so chances are that Shiki didn't even plan for her daughter to kill her and it all went according to plan (since she's supposed to be a genius). Also it was just a game for her. |

Craze-Chan said: That wouldn't work because she was showing off as Magata Shiki who hadn't appeared for years on the screen. She couldn't have escaped as Shiki's sister which was the whole plan. So no, she didn't Actually plan for her child to kill herself for no reason. She doesn't care about her and the daughter can't stay as Shiki either in the outside world because she was not a genius.k11chi said: No you see, what Magata Shiki wanted was to be killed by her daughter once she turns 15, then the daughter would go ahead and kill her dad too. Actually during all those flashbacks did her parents or even her aunt (excluding he uncle) specifically call Shiki by her name? Like Saikawa says in the end, Magata Shiki never existed, The sister was the one that existed. So when she says 'a doll did it', Does she refer to sister Miki and not Shiki? What he said is that there is no such persona as Magata Miki, that is, it's Magata Miki who never existed. But it's almost the same. He's saying they're both the same. And I don't believe him. |

wow that was an awesome revelation, planning this for all those years is brilliant and I enjoyed seeing them solve the mystery, I don't want to think she'll easily get away but after seeing this I don't really think it's impossible if she did. I'm definitely looking forward to the final next time. |

Was Magata really killed her own child? i'm getting confuse because of the ending, Magata's older sister was they one who killed the director. And that blood word on the painting, what is the meaning of that. i don't think this is the end of the case. that ending really blows my mind. or did Magata disguise herself like her older sister? but if that was the case, how the director know she was Magata? And that Explanation about "Everything became F" That indeed very interesting. It was a little bit hard to understand it, but finally i understand it now. F is fifteen, so because of that, Magata teach her own daughter to killed her after fifteen years. BUT! if that was the case, then what is the meaning of the ending? Magata ended up killing her own daughter because of Moe, she got out from the room and went to the roof. and then met the director as her older sister and killed him. But she disguise as magata older sister, how can the director knew ? and how can she disguise as magata older sister if she really did? did she killed her sister or something? That if Magata's daughter was the one who escaped. She cut her mother's hands for getting out from the room (Make sense) but her limbs ? if Magata was the one who escaped, She cut her daughter's limbs (make sense) but her hand? i think she cut the hand so that if someone notice that Magata had a daughter and realize that the one who escaped was Magata's daughter, they wouldn't know that the one who escaped was actually Magata, and she went to the roof, disguise like her sister and killed him, but for some reason the director was actually knew that was Magata. and to connect it with this episode, Magata didn't escaped from the island instead stayed inside the Lab while disguise as her sister. then where is her real sister ? did Magata killed her and hide the body? and Saikawa said it too in the end, "There's no such person as Magata Shiki, She was Magata Shiki" the word "She", that was refering to Magata's sister right? and this is my last thoughts, the mastermind is Magata Shiki's older sister from the very beginning. i don't why, but for some reason that thought just came into my mind after Saikawa said that. or maybe Magata didn't have any sister from the beginning ? or maybe the one who lived inside the room was actually Magata's daughter alone ? it's so confusing!!! i really can't wait for next week. sorry for bad english. |

So not only did Magata kill her own child, she also created a sister that never existed, disguised herself as her and became able to speak fluent English, all while watching a plan many, many years in the making come to fruition with such flawless ease. Ah, thank you. I was really confused by the "sister" killing the Uncle at the end. It makes complete sense now. |

Well this was a pretty damn great episode! I was totally surprised that Magata was the sister, all that time! Sadly the other parts were not as impactful due to it being kind of obvious by now as well as "guessing" novel-readers spoiling it all in these forums :P Still an amazing episode, so many good scenes and the revelations were really well presented and detailed. I really liked the last scene with the uncle. Also really like the fact that we have actually been given pretty much all the clues needed to solve the mystery without having to rely on MC's or others to be able to figure it all out! Wonder what we are getting next week! |

They tried to throw us off by making us think the daughter was manipulated into killing Shiki at first. But as predicted, it was the daughter the whole time in the white dress, and during those interviews. And with the autopsy confirming no signs of pregnancy, the body couldn't have been Dr Shiki, but in fact the daughter whom supposedly chose death as an escape to freedom to which her twisted mother gladly cut her limbs off. I initially assumed Dr Shiki escaped on the same boat posing as Kunieda Momoko (the short-haired tomboyish girl) after killing her or something when Saikawa made that comment about how she would never wear a purple dress, but then at the end of the episode they show Dr. Shiki as Miki, as if both "sisters" were one as the same the whole time then...WTF is going on!? I thought "Miki" came to the island with the aunt. Unless I'm missed something, that seems to be the case...there was never a younger sister "Miki." Oh wait, that elevator scene from the video files during the flashes, combined with the deleted 1 minute difference...Now I get it. Still confused as fuck about why so much emphasis was put on Kunieda on the boat. Guess I'm going to have to go back and rewatch while looking out for it. Edit: Yup, although subtle and easily missed, she was wearing purple nonetheless. Now I know why Saikawa said Kunieda would never wear purple, because the reporter assumed she was just part of the camping group, no one noticing there was an extra person. To which I now ask...why did the group not bloody notice her!? They spent like a week together, and didn't see someone they didn't recognize loitering about behind them? Now all that's left is to catch her I suppose, but if she got on the boat, then she's long gone. Perhaps she has a portable unit to talk to them in the chamber? Either that, or she's actually still on the island using another terminal. Godammit, wouldn't the lab staff members and aunt have known about a younger sister named Miki!? As great as the writing is to throw us off with plots twists at every corer--Mother fucking (pun intended) plot holes just keep piling. |

Clearly, I don't exactly buy the daughter suicide theory. It looks to me Shiki planned this outcome all along and making sensei believe it was a suicide is just a part of her master plan. In other words, the likelihood of catching her now is nearly null because no one can match her criminal genius mastermind. I suspect she might be playing sensei's arch-nemesis role in the future. |

If you kept adding one to an unsigned integer, wouldn't everything become F (in hexadecimal) right before it overflowed? I guess it doesn't need a spoiler tag... but ok As you said the number of hours in 7 years (65535h) is FFFF represented in hex. Way better explanation than "fifteen" Hah it was exactly that. We got that one last week. Judging how Magata had Saikawa totally under her control I doubt Nishinosono is getting a happy ending. |

I had this weird hunch that Shiki's "sister" was her all along because someone, not sure if Moe was the one who mentioned it, that Shiki and her sister Miki looked so much alike. I started to think that maybe Miki was Shiki after all in disguise. Shiki is fucked up, seriously then again her sense of logic and morality doesn't match ours. Still, it doesn't justify killing your own child. Then again, she killed her own parents and fucked her own uncle and got pregnant with his child. Everything is F. Everything is FUCKED UP. |

So if Magata Shiki was planning this for 7 years, did she also take into account that Nishinosono would make the daughter start questioning herself? Also, if the daughter did commit suicide, was the motive only to intervene with the plan of killing ones parents at 15? next episode please explain to those who are slow to follow lol, eg me. |

Magata shiki just overtook Ragyo for the 21st century mother of the century award. Very nicely presented anime, but why are people saying Magata is a genius? Sure, we are told she is a genius, over and over again, but we haven't been shown genius. What, because of her tricks and stunts, with the benefit of root access to a system of her own development? Or because of that inane long term plan which either did not pan out (if she had indeed intended her daughter to kill her) or was a simple cruel prank on an as of yet unborn baby and did not require any ingenuity to carry out? Don't get me wrong, there are many feats of genius we are told she has accomplished: she managed to raise a kid who is able to speak and understand conversation and have concepts like suicide, without leaving that single room. But we are not told how she did it. We are not told how she did anything. I can write any implausible scenario and justify it with "she was a genius", as every character keeps repeating like a tired mantra. But it is really the other way around: what I need to do is show her actions, her planning, her procedures, and let the reader judge for themselves if she is indeed a genius. I, as a viewer, definitely saw a twisted, interesting psychopath in a nice mystery anime. But I did not see any genius. I saw talk of genius, but not evidence for it. |

I'm kinda confused, so correct me if I'm wrong... The Shiki everyone knows is actually her daughter, and she's the victim. Shiki's sister is actually the real Shiki herself, and she's the murderer. That's messed up, but I like it! |

Ok after the beginning I really thought they'd go with the lame ass "She was pregnant and the child did it" theory a few people thought of last episode already. But this actually turned out quite interesting. I like it much better this way and it explains why Magata Shiki is alive in the opening. Sooo did I interpret that the right way? Magata Shiki was the woman who was supposed to be her sister? Makes it even better. She was right in front of them the whole time. edit: The only thing which was annoying was the horribly drawn out explanation of hexadecimals. Sure they had to explain it for people who are not working/interested in a tech-related area but they really took their time. Less would have been sufficient to understand the point. |

What an incredibly complicated escape plan... I'm still trying to sink in all that has been said in this episode. I wish they would have resorted to some visual explanations aswell... For example, watching some of her interactions with the daughter and eventually the murder. But the most important thing that I don't get is: "What do you mean there was no sister?! How could you possibly fake the existence of someone like that? Then who dafuq left the chopper at ep3 when the director/uncle was still alive?" |

I like the representation of Saikawa's and Nishinosono's conversation with Shiki. Saikawa's scenery is horizonless ocean with relaxing atmosphere. While Nishinosono's scenery is a interrogation room. It is have more meaning(for me) than a Shaft style in Monogatari. While Saikawa's way of thinking is more wider and open, Nishinosono is locked with single thought - "Who are you?". She can't see anything, only Magata and cell, which are represent her thinking. |

All I saw up until now was a cold-hearted, calculating & manipulative depressed sociopath in action, who was terribly bored with life at the age of 14/15 and craved freedom, so Little Miss Cold @ss Punk stabbed her parents. Niiiiice... not. And then Saikawa's fascination for that very same pathetic loner... geez. Meh. HELLOOOO Sohei! So-called genius stabbed her parents, seduced her uncle & banged him! I have mixed feelings about this episode. True they did finally explain just about everything, but at the same time some of those explanations were pretty fucking lame. Most people figured out that Magata killed her daughter last week (or at least I thought most people figured it out till I read this thread). The explanation for that is Michiru wasn't a genius, questioned herself, and wanted to be freed - through death. So Magata kills her...but still needs to make it look like she died and it was her daughter who killed her, so she mutilated Michiru's corpse and killed the Uncle ("her parents"). I think just about everyone knew that everything becomes F meant fifteen, because of the daughter's age and because of the books. That's how WE figured it out...the actual train of thought Saikawa went through was fucking retarded. "oh, everything is fifteen, so it must mean that everything is a hexadecimal and it was all in the source code". WHO IN THE FUCK WOULD EVER GUESS THAT? Shiki actually being Miki was an interesting theory before, but now that they actually presented it as the truth it's a bit stupid. Somehow...this girl managed to trick everybody, every single lab member, that she had a sister. This is also including the old woman who witnessed her killing her parents, who by all logic should've known she was an only child since she's her aunt. Then she sneaks onto the roof, pretends to be Miki who doesn't exist getting off the helicopter, kills Uncle after everyone leaves, then pretends to be the imaginary sister before leaving on a boat. Sorry, that just makes no sense to me. Had the director's wife (aka Shiki's aunt) not been shown in the show, I'd believe it. But it makes no sense for her to not know that Shiki is an only child. Nishinosono also proved that she is straight up autistic this episode. Screaming "WHO ARE YOU!?!" like 11 times and refusing to believe that the killer was actually Magata...even though the entire time Saikawa and Magata were trying to explain it to her. And then an autopsy somehow convinces her...ok. So, Pros: - Everything explained - Plot twists mostly solved - Saikawa and Magata had their conversation Cons: - shitty explanation for "F" - shitty explanation for Shiki really being Miki - Moe being fucking stupid as always - More unneeded Shiki x Uncle incest. Like, you showed it 6 other times already. You had a fucking kid together. We get it already. |

(ok, it's sci-fi, but not very well grounded in the anime setting) no, capsules like this actually exist. if you stop stimulating all your senses( by floating in warm water, in silence and darkness) you start to hallucinate. I belive you can use it like lucid dreams after some training? most likely the devices had also audio and microphones, so a few people using the capsules could communicate once they started "dreaming". Moe and Saikawa heard Magatas voice, so they started "seeing" her. Thats why they both saw different places too. As Saikawa went "for a walk" with Magata (because they cut Moes audio off) he was wondering if they see a similar scenery. |

Magata Shiki is just brilliant. Suddenly a character I thought was a mere plot device became my favorite character of the season. The show should've ended with this episode. Whatever is left for the finale could only detract from the story at this point. |

Wow I completely missed "Miki" (real Shiki) leaving in dark purple dress with Chinese girl & friends in ep9 (+ same handbag & haircut as ep7). Now ep7 full awkward English makes sense, to hide her JP voice matching with her previous videos. Thought purple was only important for Moe's childhood dress backstory. Now I see purple sunrise painting in Miki's guest room (shown here but not in ep7). Uncle's wife also wears dark purple dress. I was right about FFFF, but got confused by the family curve balls. Thought sisters switching places lost its credibility, then daughter theories, now Miki never came (or existed), and daughter either was killed or suicide. That ocean...that hair... bubbles so beautiful. Lol instead sensei wanna smoke. |
