Wow it's so damn bad -.- How can I be the only one that dares to say that.
All of those unnecessary changes from the anime and they skip way too much.
Instead of his hand acting up and crushing the chalk that his teacher throws at him. He just sits there and he grabs a person's breast as a replacement for that scene.

He's scared of insects for some reason, while he is not in the manga and the list goes on.

4/10 so far.

Hardly, all those things were simple modernization...

That ending was so messed up lol

Still, it was a pretty good episode...Not one of my favorite premiere's of the season but still pretty enjoyable

I liked the OP and ED but I dunno how I feel about the OST just yet...And +100 for no censors

first off NO CENSORSHIP

really interesting, fluid animation, like the character designs, op and ed are great

the "monster/insect" whatever you wanna call it design is a bit too funny at times to be scary and the dubstep ost is out of place

other than that really good looking forward to the rest

how many chapters does the manga have?

What gave you that impression?
1. The main character. He seems a bit slow. Not that he did anything wrong, but it's more the way he does everything.

2. The breast scene. I thought they put this outdated joke because it's an old manga, but people say it was not in the manga, but anyways it makes it more a lighthearted comedy.

3. The alien voice.

4. The interaction between the main character and the alien.

5. The car scene and the fight made it feel more like an action anime.

6. And of course the soundtracks... They gave a comedy feel.

Better than I expected. I really don't care about the changes to Shinichi's design, since the OP at least confirms he'll change. Also, speaking about the opening, holy hell was it garbage. Fuck that band honestly, they're terrible. The animation was great though a bit stiff at times. The soundtrack was mostly pretty cool, but that dubstep song was really lame.

And its so modernized. I really dont like that.

I also thought migi would sound way cooler than this. Like really the fuck man. In my head migi was so much cooler lol. It doesnt even feel scary like the manga at all.

Really bad. So bad. Even if its the first ep.

OP storyboard was pretty damn boring given freaking Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas played for the OP song, what a waste. They used a lot of stills so it feels like nothing is going on. The one good thing about this is that they probably put all the effort in the animation for the actual episode, so this is A-ok with me. I hope they keep the quality because it looks great so far.

As I thought (not that it wasn't obvious) Shinichi will radically change his looks and look more like he does in the manga after styling his hair. What I like is that he looks, art style wise, a lot more like the manga. Props on that. Still think it was absolutely unnecessary to make him a nerdy guy with glasses. In the manga people don't make a lot of buzz when he changes looks, and even people closer to him like Murano think it's just him trying a new style (which is normal for teenagers) and she herself doubts at first. I liked that because nobody around him really knows what he's going through, it's a subtle change expected from a teen. The change from nerdy to badass shounen is too blunt (if you read the manga his new look is more akin to high school thug cliques). If that were my classmate I'd wonder what the hell is going on.

Other changes are he doesn't eat much, and he's afraid of bugs. Two things that don't happen in the manga. I understand they want to emphasize that he changes once Migi becomes his hand, I really do. BUT, there's no reason to make it so blunt. The idea is that the dad thinks he's just a normal boy, and the mom is the one noticing that's something's different but cannot really put a finger on what. It just plays more on Shinichi's secrecy if not a lot of people notice his changes and cannot pinpoint exactly what.

So now the girl from the art club is an OSANA NAJIMI (and I doubt it's someone different, the character design is exactly the same). That actually pissed me off. And appears right from the get go instead of being just a character that appears later, is not related to Shinichi and worked things out on her own. Ok yeah please keep on pandering to generic anime tropes.

You can think of all the excuses you want about the boob grab scene, but it's just cheap pandering, that's all it is. There was no reason for it except reminding me of stupid romcoms where the dumb nerdy guy JUST happens to cop a feel by accident and it's totally not his fault. The manga gives the same awkward situation at least three times without resorting to grabbing a girl's boob.

Aya Hirano is pretty ok, actually I'm surprisingly glad. I didn't get reminded of Haruhi or Konata that much and she pulls of a mechanical/monotone that I expected Migi to have. She has a pretty distinctive voice that'd make it hard to take seriously in something like Parasyte (Migi no less, the other main character) but so far she sounds pretty nice. I expected a more boyish voice leaning on androgynous (hmmm maybe a bit like the live action one, but that one is too expressive), but so far it works pretty well.

So far, no censorship. Perfect. PERFECT. Although there's not much to censor (compared to later on of course) so let's hope they keep the gore scenes faithful to the original.

So far I'm really satisfied overall. I'm not crazy about the emphasis put on the girl from the art club, I think there's more than enough important female characters in the story, and I hope they keep the fanservice to a minimum, or better yet, NO fanservice like the manga. Seriously that boob scene was absolutely unnecessary. Looking forward to next ep, this is awesome.

i liked it for the most part other than the ost and the 2008 emo boy band opening song it was fine. some things were a bit different from the manga like order of events but it probably suits the changes in pacing that they will probably have to undergo to adapt 60 something chapters into a seasonal anime. i did not imagine migis voice to sound like that at all tho i always imagined him as a sarcastic asshole but i like the seiyuu nonetheless

This somehow reminded of the beginning of Spiderman, but regardless, it was a fine episode and a good way to start the season. The only noticeable aspect that bothered me a bit was the terrible CGI used to animate the crowd, but to be fair it's quite common in anime nowadays.
Looking forward to next week and after this, I can confidently say that this season is turning out to be solid to say the least.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

Why? I mean obviously 2D all the way would match better, but using cheap CGI for unimportant characters frees up resources to focus on the important characters/scenes. The fact they were used at all gives the backgrounds a bit of life, which sometimes it's not done in animation making the streets look deserted. I think it's fine as long as they keep up the good animation for the good parts.

I was skeptical of this one after reading the premise, but I actually really liked this first episode. Gore scenes with little to no censorship! (looking at you, Tokyo Ghoul)

The OP is probably my favorite of the season so far. Really good, along with the art and sound.

The dubstep kind of put me off at first, mainly due to the fact that I don't like dubstep at all, and it didn't fit the scene it played in.

That Corgi tho...

Definitely going to follow this series, and see how it turns out. Looks very promising.

well alot of ppl were complaining before hand seeing as how the char designs were altered and what not people were also scared of the censorship

this reassured people but if u wanna rebuttal again go ahead

I read the manga and it was kinda eh to me. They changed some pointless things which makes me weary of what they'll do with bigger plot points later on.

I'm also crying because they took out the "Come eat breakfast dear" "EAT, YOU SAY??" pun ;(

Pretty interesting so far! I have high expectations for this, I think the story has a great potential to develop to something even more interesting than the first episode. The only thing I didn't like were the background characters made with CG, it was dumb option imo.

Man..They should call the studio Mad"Balls" LOLOLOLOLOL.
Walking on thin line with the No censorship==AWESOME.LOVE YOU MADHOUSE!

Also I've never actually read the manga and Heard it was 1990s manga..Pretty surprised with how much they modernized everything to fit in recent times. It was fantastically well done and I would have been going "No way!" If someone surprised me that this is adapted from a Manga from 20 years ago.

While the Electro Or Dubstep? Was Awesome I feel like it didn't fit in some situation but Overall its to awesome to nitpick on.Never heard this kind of Soundtrack in any before,Not that iI'm aware of.

Overall:9.5/10 Episode

I second this!!!

Though, I have to admit I, too, was quite the skeptic and I'm not a huge fan a sci-fi. I thought it flowed nicely and presents enough problems to keep me interested. The animation is fitting for it's genre BUT I don't see how there would be a censorship problem -- they don't show enough to be censored. It's mostly blacked out...(-_-) Oh well, it'll just have to be left to my imagination.
Be yourself; everyone else is already taken.
I might be crazy. So, what's the problem?
