Dude.......enjoy overseas~
Wenge can speak Japanese/Nihongo now, and his mom visits him during Christmas. That was a nice scene. Nice singing, too, Wenge. I like how the song fits the situation.
Peco almost drowned, man. Fuck yeah, he is back at playing ping pong. Thanks to Akuma :D
Most of them spent the Christmas alone.....which is sad :/

The scene where they were all making wontons was heartwarming. It's really nice to see Wenge actually getting along with his teammates.

I like how the Demon developed too. Being a true friend and rescuing him from the depths of depression and also the depths of the sea.

Poor Smile all alone on Christmas :(

WHAT an episode. This is what anime can be when its at its most imaginative. Truly a masterpiece. Was sort of unsure of how to score this but at least a 9 at this point, possibly verging on a 10.

That was great! Packed a lot and still managed to deliver without feeling rushed.. well.. Peco's enthusiasm at the end was a little sudden (a few more seconds would have done) but it wasn't much.

This has to be my favorite episode so far. Character development galore.

Kong truly has changed from the guy who looked down at his peers, to now, singing with his comrades. What a beautiful sigh to see. I really enjoyed Kong's singing too. I'm glad I'm watching this near the holiday season. Feels good

I cannot wait to see Peco back in action again. I feel like he's not only going to defeat Kong, but also Smile. Speaking of Smile, this episode really showcased of how emotionless he is.

Kong! He learned Japanese huh? Not only that, he has grown as character too, bonding with his teammates...i think he's my favorite character.

That Christmas song was just beautiful.

Smile spending Xmas all by himself...

Man, Peco really is going downhill...smoking and drinking, i feel bad for him.

Wow, that whole conversation between Peco and Akuma...fascinating, Akuma has also grown as a character after being destroyed by Smile. That whole thing when Peco light up a cigarette and Akuma just throws it on the sea was funny.

It's baffling how this anime has more character depth in just 6 episodes than some series during their entire run.

Peco's back baby.

Funny episode. That random guy from the inter-high...beach? no...mountains? no...maybe I'll go abroad. Akuma was great how he kept taking Peco's cigarette out of his mouth.

Guess this shows the difference in our lives. Those who don't have luck in life or talent (or social skills) end up being construction workers, being alone and masturbating to posters of girls on them. Whilst those with luck and talent live the good life... but is that the reality? Pretty much all those who are at the top also worked hard and not just got away with talent and luck. Such is life, without all those things combined it's impossible to get to the top.

The animation for the ping pong match at the beginning was superb. It was sad to see Peco all messed up. I liked the Christmas part it was kind of sad but happy at the same time. I wonder what direction the series will take from here?

I found this episode boring until the "drowning" scene.

I found it hilarious how Demon had to save Peco when he was drowning right on the shore.

Other than that, this episode failed to grab my interest. Maybe this anime is just not for me. It is from a director who is known for not following the norm at all.

I wonder if the lack of autotune in the ED on this episode relates to the robot theme. Foreshadowing a return to humanity, or becoming the hero or something.

Halfway done and this is already the best sports anime ive watched, i was waiting for the moments where Peco gets development so it can like him and i came. This show managed to implement so much character progression in 1 episode what other can only hope to do so in a 12(i guess being more character driven instead of story driven helps) All the characters(yeah even Demon shocked me) well rounded, realistic and relatable. This series is one of the few anime that manages to make the characters that feel so real, so alive. Kong is especially my favorite.

Im really glad i decided to watch this today, five more to go.

I loved the karaoke part, seeing Wenge and his friends celebrate Christmas together is really heartwarming. On the other hand, it seems that Peco and Smile are celebrating it alone. Hopefully Peco will get even more character development in the next few episodes.

amen.
-------

see, this anime can be pretty sometimes :3

i don't understand why everyone loves china ._. i mean he's cool and all but he needs to be the MC? wat?

very nice episode. it spread evenly for all the characters. the best scene was Christmas Eve. i think this scene showed all the more on how much peco/ko and smile need each other, they were both so alone.

speaking of -

peco/ko invited his GF to who knows where and didn't even get her a gift, and then she stomps off.

before anyone wants to talk about how peco/ko is a bad BF, his GF is terrible as well. she seriously got pissed off at him not immediately not giving her a gift. sure it was something to expect, but to leave him for not getting things? both of them sucked. it was also a bit disturbing to see peco/ko drunk for that night. scary!

nice to see china helping other ping pong lovers as well, and his mother came! good for him.

and i'm really confused. did the ping pong commercial girl meet her BF, or was that her imagination?

again, back to peco/ko. i was actually kinda scared he would die. i had to keep reminding myself that sakuma was trying to save him. i loved the ending, when the old lady was happy peco/ko came back. "I love ya." nice ending.

and a little on sakuma, it was amazing to see his transformation from before into a kind person and now he even wants to help peco/ko be the best at what he is.

Seeing each player celebrate their own Christmas parties was interesting~ Kong's party with his mom and buddies was especially touching ♡

Peco really let himself go, to the point of almost dying. Luckily, Demon has a good side to him after all. He finally admit that Peco was their hero in that smells like teen spirit moment.

He's starting back from zero. I can't wait to see him get better now~

I'd watch/read Attack on Robot.

China singing on Christmas was pretty sweet. I also love his mom. This episode seemed to present him as a more sympathetic/human character than previous.

Peco needs to stop running from table tennis...he has natural talent!

"That's my reality."
"The reality where you don't do anything?!" /r/me_irl

That ending was exactly what I wanted...Peco realized he loves and needs table tennis again. And the old lady messing with him..."Love you, kid~"
"No, son, you may not have your body pillow at the dinner table!"

It's no exaggeration to say this is my favorite single piece of media that I've ever seen. I have a soft spot for "smug" characters being humbled while still retaining some of their original demeanor, and this was the real start of Wenge being more down to earth and at least less bitter, being able to enjoy what he has as it's a better situation than everyone else despite how brutal it must be to be stuck with strangers. He's lucky to have a family and a team who likes him that much despite his arrogance, and slowly coming to appreciate that while singing something that personal in the karaoke with them shows his vulnerability, and it's not the most in depth character study but it does enough to show how he grows.

The truly amazing part is how it does all that while having that scene brilliantly highlight the other characters with multiple ironies such as the hero being in the dumps, Smile continuing to be numb during the holidays which is a great aesthetic, Kazuma still just going on like normal due to his crippling fears rather than relaxing himself with a distraction elsewhere, and Sakuma slowly adjusting to life away from the sport but not so much to avoid the next confrontation with Peco which will always break me. The hard worker who just isnt that talented is also something which gets to me and seeing his idol/rival who he beat be so shook by it due to his coasting...it's all so real and harsh. These scenes being back to back as well make the single greatest stretch of media history for me, I don't think anything will ever evoke as much of a reaction out of me as this part and it's also a beautiful bridge, right in the middle of everything, to the rest of a great series. It's hard to explain beyond it just capturing the right mood of everything, and words simply can't adequately describe that experience.
