THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Lovely electronic warfare and the Oddette 2! In space finally! About the Oddette 2, I find the spaceship at its best in the following, ![]() This is due to its sails being out. It looks really nice like that. It looked already good from the start in the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While I love its cockpit and its map navigational system is done rather well here. Loved its three masts (Mizzen mast, Main mast and Fore mast) open in the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() About the fan service, the fan service was light and nice. It can be in 2 parts, that of the changing locker room and the space suits themselves. The list says more.
http://myanimelist.net/anime/5307/Sora_wo_Kakeru_Shoujo It just reveals bras, panties and some nudity but not often it was at all plus the nude will be censored as was with that series anyway. I say to all don’t be bothered with it. It will not be annoying IMO and should be like the series I referred to. About Marika, I ROFL so hard at the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Totally love expressions like that of hers along with this one. While I noticed that Chiaki here looks surprised by Marika finishing that fast. Loved seeing Marika serving someone since she is in maid outfit and of course she looked gloomy here since not as many people showed up as last time. However Mami looks always cheerful. I loved that Chiaki appeared at the working place of Marika with Mami/Marika being happy over it in the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() While at the emergencey part Marika did not panic too much here just was surprised but Marika was nice while in the space suit here. Can’t wait to see her next episode. About Marika’s classmates, they are a very interesting bunch in the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() About minor remarks, I find that Misa’s smile here towards Kane was nice. The bird view of the school here was a nice feature to show how it looks from above. While I do admit that Misa’s cleavage really stands out most of the time. That’s not bad. I did like how Kane reacts to Misa’s remarks here. I do admit that Kane was feeling not well at all here in terms of managing stress. However Kane’s spacesuit here was nice to see for a first. Well from the looks of the spoiler ![]() ![]() About the preview, looks like all are going to sleep inside the Oddette 2. They will be also cruising through zero gravity which is nice to see. What I can’t wait for is in the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() I can say really that this episode the action got much better. The fact the ship goes out into space and the whole electronic war gave out good points as to what expect more of the fights from this series. With this episode, I am sold into situations that arise from it. BTW Images Stitches done in the spoiler ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I am sorry but I could not resist the little fan service so I made some GIFs in Marika’s own club: http://myanimelist.net/forum/?topicid=392509 Please join she has not many people in there for her. |

Nice mast and the cyber warfare was great. Oh nice something that the series needed a little fun fanservice changing moment. What this series needs are some life and death battles, probably those will be in like the 9th or 10th episode at the least. |

I liked how it wasn't super easy to just go into space (like you see in other space shows). I love how they made their space suits cute too. |

Alright episode, nothing super exciting. Do they not require lifelines to keep them from drifting off into space when outside the ship? Seems sketchy. |

Great episode, I love the pacing and how the show makes an effort to make this whole space-sailing believable. All too often things just are in Scifi Anime, without any reasonable explanation as to why or how it works like that. This is the real thing as it seems so far. Both the main character and the audience get shown what this all is about from the start on. Marika sure isn't without any knowledge or skill on the topic, but she's far from a specialist that'd just go and join some Pirate crew she does not know much about. But they show us that she's talented - flying seems easy for her, she's used to the command structure (which actually works in here) and keeps her eyes open to recognize and fix problems as they appear. They also show us that while Marika is kinda scared of space, and how insignificant whole worlds seem from outside, she's got a strong will and is longing for that kind of adventure. Also, even if they take a few more episodes until she joins the crew, hell, this show's got 26 episodes, the pacing is just fine, let them develop their characters early and back them up. This show's a strong one, even without excessive fanservice despite having so many female characters. Have some faith that this will turn out to be a memorable Anime adaption. |

However, we are also not exactly briefed on what kind of technology they are employing. Their suites alone are 1/4 of the size of astronauts now. We can't really tell how "true" physics will work on unknown technologies. The episode was good though. It was... relaxing to say the least, but I think it was too relaxing. |

Needing to rely on guide lines would be the dangerous part. I'm assuming their suits have built in maneuver units and the gloves and boots are probably auto-attracted to metallic surfaces as needed, based on cues from the wearer's movements. Though they are somewhat bulky rigs, even we have real maneuver units for our astronauts, and research is being put into developing much more effective suits (there is some half serous talk of funding NASA and other countries' space programs for new manned missions to at least the moon, and bottom line we need better suits). Also, though in its infancy, we're starting to develop technology for neural nets to allow someone to control electronics with nerve impulses (being developed mainly for people with disabilities). Surely in a hundred years of development maneuver units will become just small extensions of space suits of the future. We're talking about a civilization for which space travel is common enough for non-professional enthusiast / hobbyists to have small short ranged space vehicles - one could easily assume the technology for the suits people wear would be very effective. |

There's nothing in their movements to suggest that they're using any sort of technology (magnet-based attraction to the metal, for example) to stick to the surface of the ship, nor do they show the use of built-in propulsion in their suits. You can't argue with unknown technologies as long as the mythos itself hasn't hinted at or stated its use. Their space walk just about defied Newton's Third all the way through. Even in episode two, that pirate teacher guy somehow managed to accelerate through some sort of strange movement while not in contact with any surface or object. Forces don't work like that. Even with the funny physical anomalies, though, I find this an immensely enjoyable series. I have no idea what everyone is complaining about- Moretsu is slow paced? Space is slow-paced. Do you know how long it could take for Misa and Kane to personally deliver a message to Ririka like they did? We're lucky that Marika didn't find out about her father's death when she was THIRTY. Even in an age where colonization of new planets is possible and space travel is significantly easier, going out into space is a big deal. Compared to some of the other "sci-fi" series that just skip over the technical difficulties in maintaining a space vessel with "oh-we-docked-and-refueled-and-stuff" and "oh-we-have-magic-particle-engines-and-magic-recycling-systems", this series is absolutely amazing. |

I'm fairly sure you mean his first law. When Kane was 'motionless' in that passage tube he appeared to be able to move without being pushed or having something to push against, and without that he should have remained motionless. That's the first law. However, I'm assuming that they are advanced enough that they have very non-noticeable gadgets to allow them to move using the third law - some small jet booster - or some attractive thing. Today, for instance, we have ear buds for our cell-phones that are almost small enough to not show under long hair, it is quite common now for someone to appear to be talking to themselves until you realize they are 'on the phone'. I'm willing to bet in 10-15 years you'll be able to get a cell phone ear bud that will look an ear ring - and in 25 years maybe the entire cell phone might be ear ring sized. I would expect someone who is going into a weightless environment to have the minimal necessities for getting around and I'd not be surprise that such would be no more noticeable than we consider cell phone ear buds today. |

I'm pretty sure this series is NOT targeted at all the science buffs and astrologists we have around here, so one would have to realize that this is an anime, where people have to actually draw the actions instead of real life where physics controls everything. All this science defying things are obviously done for convenience. How about we all just assume that because this is the future, they have technology that allows stuff to happen that can't happen in real life? |

Well, the science aspect of this show should be taken with a big distance, just assume it might happen in the future and your all good. I need airtight cloth zippers though, that's cool. The episode was probably even more slow paced than previous ones, still was rather enjoyable. Good to see some space action, with space suits designed for fanservice. ^^" Needs more Misa. |

Alot of you are being impatient. It's slow in event wise. But there is still alot going on in the anime, some of you are acting like children that cant site down and watch show if someone is not fighting. That is what shounen is for. Im pretty sure people would be bitching even worse if she just jumped in the seat of being captain with no experience. And just automatically knew how to do just about everything, Cliche` much? Anyways i have a high expectation of this show, by keeping it realistic and cute at the same time is impressive to me. I just hope it keeps staying to that principle during battle. |

I'd rather put it this way: it's like I'm almost like reading the original novel (or for that matter, Treasure Island), and at that pace I'm okay with it. This isn't like One Piece, folks. It takes some time for some character development to kick in, as Marika gains some experience along the way; it ain't easy being a pirate princess, because that kind of rep needs to be earned by first-hand, hands-on experience on all aspects of seamanship, from piloting to navigation, to offensive and defensive warfare, to systems maintenance, to negotiation and diplomacy. (Try playing Sid Meier's Pirates to get the feel) In the real world, an EVA will require lanyards, jet packs, and another set of eyes on the back of your head, along with a buddy right out there to keep an eye on you (oh, just like scuba diving). But this story's very far into the future (and this is science fiction), so they have their suits rigged up with very advanced gear, just enough to keep the girls safe, even for a greenhorn crewmember. |

This isn't THAT slow paced. As many people have clarified, You can't just waltz into space and expect a clean journey. I love how this show is attempting to rationalize the physical abnormalities by showing how hard a time the girls are having just leaving dock! I love the mysteriousness of space and sci fi in general, but I hate how they make so many complicated procedures look as easy as baking pie! This shows got a nice pace going on, and i have a feeling the action will jump up soon, when it's needed. Building character is a good thing. Let the show do it xD The only awry thing I can see so far is the space walk. But we don't know how advanced the technology in the show is yet, but we CAN tell it's pretty well advanced! Many posts before mine have given evidence to how the girls pulled off that space walk in those conditions. Magnetic based attraction probably keeping them close to the ship and not flying off into space and the suits having inbuilt oxygen filters may be keeping them breathing! Anyway, if two random people you don't know suddenly appeared before you saying you were the daughter of some infamous pirate and asked you to command their ship you wouldn't just say "Oh sure, of course I'll be the captain of your ship!" straight away would you? Let's stick to realism here people, it's gonna take time for Marika to make her decision, let her explore space and gain some trust in Chiaki, Kane and everyone else! When the action does start well... TIME FOR SOME FUCKING PIRACY!! Anyway, for all you critics about the physical barriers this show is breaking (Yet trying to justify and explain how they can do half this shit, unlike alot of Sci fi) its ANIME! Its not perfect, and well who gives a damn if a few things are awry!? Lets just sit back and enjoy the show. Yeah, I do believe anime has to have atleast some realism, but Im not about to get all technical on it =P Im enjoying this show immensely so far, and really can't wait for a new episode every week! |

Was a pretty nice episode and i liked the fan service as well. Marika still has allot to learn and i wonder when she will be convinced about becoming a privateer since she doesn't seem to be aware what this actually means. She also doesn't seem to be aware that she is in a pretty dangerous position and that other might get hurt. There is also the question of who exactly is Chiaki she knows allot and she seems to be very interested in Marika. I wonder if some other privateer ship send her. |

Well I guess you are right, many people who love adventure or just want out would jump at the opportunity and go xD I for one would go, but it would take some time for me to decide and I'd want to get to know more about Pirates and Kane and the lifestyle in general ^_^ I have a feeling as Marika gets to know more and more and as she racks up more and more experience she'll decide to say yes, though I dont know how long that will take. She does need to work on her skills though!! To be a leader you need leadership qualities (which she has shown) but as soulassassin547 said: soulassassin547 said: It takes some time for some character development to kick in, as Marika gains some experience along the way; it ain't easy being a pirate princess, because that kind of rep needs to be earned by first-hand, hands-on experience on all aspects of seamanship, from piloting to navigation, to offensive and defensive warfare, to systems maintenance, to negotiation and diplomacy.
