about the ratings on my list:

Giving reccommendations to friends or other ppl what to watch is the primary reason why I 'rate' Animes on my list. As a consequence my rating scale somewhat reflects how I think the show or movie might appeal to someone else. (As a consequence for example animes might end up getting a 8 or even 7 even though I might personally consider them to be virtually equal to some of the ones rated at 9, but just more "target-audience-specific".) So here is the list of the rough guidelines for the different scores I try to keep in mind when rating animes on my list:

10: This is show is so great that it should be worth watching for everyone including those who usually disdain the genre it belongs to.
9: Basically about the same as 10, but I acknowledge the possibility that only those who somewhat dislike the genre might love it whereas someone who disdains it might not fall in love with this anime.
8: A very good anime with (IMHO) very little flaws that anyone with the slightest affinity to the genre should find quite appealing.
7: The show might have either some little flaws or just strongly target a specific audience. If you like the genre it should still be very well worth your time.
6: This anime most likely targets a specific audience, offering little for others and even then have somewhat serious flaws. It's still possible to get enjoyment from it.
5: You have too much free time? You have seen all of the better stuff? You're a hardcore fan of the genre? Then this might still be worth a try.
4: I would not recommend this show, but acknowledge the fact that some groups of people might experience a little joy watching this show, though I don't know "why"...
3: Somewhat similar to 4, but it's even more difficult for me to picture the person considering the experience of watching this show to be somewhat entertaining. You can likely find something better to do ... like ... smashing your head against different things in your room and comparing the sounds you get from it.

I won't write anything about 1 and 2. Actually ratings below 6 are quite rare on my list, because of one simple reason: I usually do not have so much free time, that I run out of all possible entertaining activities and desperately watch shows I don't somewhat enjoy. I usually don't rate shows I've not watched until the end and if I rate something lower than 6 I likely watched it for some very specific reason. (Like: "It was really short and after the first few episodes misleading me to suspect some potential I at least wanted to know how it ended" or "It might only appeal to a 'very' specific audience ... so what ... maybe I'm somewhat part of it. :P")
