That poor kid, pretty messed up! I liked how they were able to model the android after an actress (Jean Seberg) who committed suicide. As I've recently discovered, the movies that were shown in this episode were actual French movies! I really like how they pluck obscure French films and use it as a great sub-plot device.

Another reason why this episode is brilliant.

the kid was stuck in the past. we all do it, only with some of us, obsession makes us stick with things longer. because forgetting about the past may just be too hard sometimes.
i guess that's one reason why i re-watch anime sometimes.

I liked the special at the end of the episode.
well the tachikoma did get the souvenir after all.

Well... I'm surprised to read that the COD (the android girl) was modeled after a live French actress... Man that's awesome... So I can drool over her real image hahahahaha... Lol joking... Anyway it's awesome to hear that the actual episode has a backstory of the suchs... Indeed... the poor guy has to leave the past... I dun blame him for falling for such a sexy girl... But he seriously need to get over that kind of obsession he had for the so called Jerry girl... Again the episode was full of great concepts... Such as AI getting its own "life", human mistakes, obsession and movies XD

hi there,

this is my first post in this forum. i was wondering if any one could help me with my question:

what is the name of the song etc. which is used at the beginning of episode 3 when all the androids are killing themselves? it's like a techno/house beat which is repeated quite often ... just trying to narrow it down in case people aren't sure which one i am talking about ;-)

that same song is also used in episode 4 and 9 (not sure exactly where) of the first season. the song is also used in the 2nd GIG episode 8.

i would really appreciate it if someone could give me the name of the song and by which artist.

regards,
fox

I don't understand why they made the Jerry out to be some kind of sexy machine, it was ugly! And I can't really connect with this episode because I'm usually somebody who tells people to get over it and just move on, that's the best thing people can do sometimes.

Lol, they didn't. The guy had an ugly fetish. The whole point of the episode was that he was a whiny punk. Even his frikkin android told him to stfu and get over it in the end :p

I liked it, but the big reveal wasn't all that surprising. The scene with the French movie would've had to have been placed a lot earlier in the episode to make it work. Thus far, GITS:SAC's a nice cop show, but I seriously hopes that it evolves beyond that. The crushed doll in the OP was finally explained - that's one of the things I'm looking for, because at this point the Tachikomas (Sakiko Tamagawa is great in that role!) are the only ones with actual personalities. Stand alone eps work well to expand on artificial intelligence, but I want some kind of overarching storyline with occasional insight into the psyche of the unit's members. I hope I won't be disappointed.

Already delving into the "ghost" concept. Nice.

So far, great mysterious feeling. You know those stories where you have a conclusion, but you're never 100% sure of what happened? I like that.

D'aw, where were my brains at? I blame the distracting cg/weird Kanno lyrics.

But yeah, another nice episode: paced, atmospheric, cyber yet noir, still gives me the same feel the original movie did. And I think it's quite the achievement to pull in a duration as short as 26 minutes.

Liked this episode better than the first but not as much as the second. So the kid made a Jerry based on the actress from the movie and it ended up actually developing feelings for him?

Interesting episode. So, Mclachlan is just a movie otaku who fell in love with the character in the movie, thus modifying his own android to be like the female lead in the movie. This reminded me about some articles that I read about some dude marrying a game character or something like that. Is loving a non-living object pointless....? I think so but I never gave it any thought. My brain starts to hurt at the thought of contemplating this stuff.....

Watching the tachikoma short at the end reveals quite a bit behind the Jeris's action at the end....probably.

The crushed-doll-in-the-OP reveal is also quite nice.

Understand your feelings. Anyways, this episode reminds me of Philip K. Dick's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" In a similar fashion, they question the mental freedom of androids, in this episode, the android whom felt love even without a ghost.

Episode less intense in terms of the action but it has a great significance with regard to the theme of the ghost. It's just a peculiarity of the cyborg or even the androids possess it? At the end Togusa seems to reveal why, but it seemed to me as if these androids have realized that their lives were in danger because of their disposal and that they had tried in extremis, to make known their discomfort.
Very nice to know that the character of Jeri is a real person, as the film shown at the end.
Good designs, but good animations.

Wow Marshall was a complete loser. "I'm gonna destroy all your other models so you'll be a unique woman cuz I can't get a real one!!1"

Interesting episode though, and I liked the implication that his Jeri possibly had a soul. Loved the tie-in to Breathless as well. Classics ftw

Ah. So that's where this is heading. "What if a robot had a soul?"

Interesting. The name of the anime makes more sense now.

So his Jeri began mimicking free will, actual love, etc.

I just found out about the shorts that accompany each episode, so I'll start watching those now.

So far I'm loving this franchise so much!! It has potential to become one of my favorites. I like how they left it open that maybe the words of the android "I'm sorry, I really loved you" might been of her own. One thing I don't like particularly is how Motoko is dressed, looks like a weird Mortal Kombat outfit and totally unrelated to the series, maybe something like a tight suit or some classy shorts but hey, overall its pretty great

I love that Major Kusanagi is developing beyond just a bad-ass. Her rant where she called the guy sexist was great, and her story about crushing her doll really helped develop her personality. Also the "Breathless" references were terrific. It would have been even better if the guy got shot while running away to complete the tie-in haha

A minor and irrelevant comment, but why in the world would Canada have a draft? A draft for peacekeeping? o.O
Canada's not mentioned often, so that was a surprise. Being a 2003 series.

My waifu will never betray me!

That was so bizarre. No wonder the conversations were so awkward and broken, they were roleplaying a bunch of old movies. Makes me wonder if that was the only way he could get the Jeri to talk to him. Though it raises an interesting question towards the unscripted part that the Jeri played at the end - was she exercising will power?

That sure was a confusing and slow episode if you ask me, the ending made it even worse repeating the script of a 20 century movie ahh are you kidding me.
