What could've been another date-like episode between Osani and Kobato turned sour. Not surprised that Osani would eventually be targeted in this show, even if it's kidnapping.

Luckily, Dojima decided to help. He's like a bro to Kobato at this point. Really felt bad that Osani is a victim of kidnapping...but she kept her usual self. Thankfully the police and authorities got involved and Osani was ok.

On the top of cakes, Osanai's mother reporting to police that her daughter has been kidnapped, that leaves Kobato helpless, and his only clue is the sweets trail and his good pal Doujima for help. 4 candy apples and 1 canele is what she wants, and the various stores itself offer a clue as to where she could be held captive, as well as how many people are involved in the act. Alongside the lollipop wrappers that lead both guys to Osanai step by step, they find out that it's the same drug group of girls led by Isawa Hasebi whom alleged that Osanai ratted them out of their issues trying to lure Sanae into the group.

Kengo got his issues due with Isawa, and Osanai talked out of consideration for Kobato during the interrogation, and thankfully, she's OK to continue the Sweets Selection trail. It was definitely a Summer that they will not forget, albeit Osanai also having this kidnapping incident planned too...?

What's going on in Osanai's mind?

Fairs this was the best case yet because we had actual stakes! A life or death situation for once, but Osanai getting lured and kidnapped with sweets is killing me dawg she’s so unserious. You don’t take candy from strangers. 😭

Kobato and Kengo timed everything perfectly luckily and stopped Hasemi and her goons before they could do anything, PLUS this is killing two birds with one stone since this is the same group that Kengo’s girlfriend sister was involved with. Hasemi was mad about being on probation because of Osanai and now she’s gonna be in a juvenile facility lmao dumbass.

No better way to end the episode than resuming our summer desert tour, I think Osanai’s deserved it after everything she been thru lol.

Osanai saved but the real mystery remain, what is Osanai real plan?

Kengo jest about Osanai being lured by a lollipop was brilliantly hilarious lol.

Thought that with the whole drug thing and how everything ties back to being about food, it'd be something about edibles, but no. Osanai simply got kidnapped with the good ol' "want some free candy" method.... 💀

These three though man. At least Kengo knows he ain't ordinary unlike Jougorou over here that tries his hardest everytime but always ends up in situations like this that makes him look like anything but LOL. Kengo being a W as always and getting straight to it, as the aftermath implied at least.

Brilliant episode nonetheless. Would go as far as to say the best episode yet, but next episode's looking like it'll beat that, with us finally figuring out what's truly going on Osanai's head.

Best episode so far. This is kind of a strange show but I like it more and more every week.

But seriously, would that actually happen in Japan? 5 JKs kidnap a classmate and almost kill her? Wouldn’t that be the crime of the year?

When you think about it, she really had to know, didn't she? Called him to her home just for the right time. Left lollipop wrappers both in the car and on the stairs, and one really doubts the kidnappers let her have another one, so she had to have those prepared in advance. Not to mention giving him the location without being able to use a map during the kidnapping itself. I guess next time we'll learn how she found out about it, how much exactly she knew in advance, and how she set the situation up to be able to take down the whole gang.

Whew... Almost took a very dark turn there but Osanai is safe.

Why the F did they not show 2 guys vs 5 girls FIST FIGHT?!! Would have been awesome.

Interesting, so Osanai let them kidnap her. We already know why though, Osanai is the reason that crazy chick got arrested last time, so it's likely she was planning something nasty for Osanai? So it makes sense to get "kidnapped" on her terms.

It was still rather dumb and risky though, especially taunting the crazy chick and basically hinting how she should kill you to shut you up! She got beat up too.

Is that punishment enough though? Kidnapping, attempted murder? Was it mentioned if she's juvenile or an adult? Juveniles get ridiculously little jail time too.

I feel like this series draws on the realistic, aka boring, type of crime. I'm going to guess it's not likely that the gang leader actually wanted to murder Osanai, more like beat her up to "teach her a lesson" type thug crime.

Which is quite interesting to think about other aspects of realism, how Osanai's behavior is really sociopathic if we try to imagine a friend or family doing it. And Kobato wiping his smirk off his face when he realized this isn't some fun riddle for him to solve and that there's real stakes. Idk if I want to be associated with either in my day to day life tbh.

Same, a bit disappointed not getting to see the fight.

Quite funny that Kengo got beat up, but then again going back to realism here, fist fights are really underwhelming and ugly, having been involved in a couple of group fights in highschool, a strong guy could be easily overwhelmed by several much smaller opponent in a street fight.

Great music was playing that showed the intensity of the situation they were in as they investigated the old building.

Kengo said exactly what we were all thinking about the free candy joke, especially after seeing the white van. However as soon as they found the van, I thought they were going to release the air in them to prevent them from making a getaway. That's what I would have done. Seeing the voice changer toy would have been enough for me go, "Yup, that's them" and decide to sabotage that van.

Just like I predicted last episode, it was Osanai (allegedly) that ratted out the drug-dealing bitch, that was previously mentioned last episode, and thus is the current perpetrator in her kidnapping.

When Kobato called the cops, he should have also given them the license number of that van, just in case. When seconds matter, the police are minutes away. You never know what might happen...that's why I said he should have deflated the tires, or at least one of them, as soon as they got there. And sure enough, had they simply waited the whole 5 minutes, it would have been too late with Isawa Hasemi holding the knife held to Osanai's throat, then was about to stab her face in the next second...had they not intervened and gave those bitches a taste of their own medicine. A little disappointing that they didn't show the actual fight, but I get it, this ain't that type of shounen-action series, plus they would have need to cut it down for anime format. I hope Kengo didn't get too hurt by that knife. But at least he to properly deal with his own problem with the drug-dealing group leader. It's a win-win for both Kobato, and Kengo with his not-girlfriend who calls him Kenken. The two of them make a good team; the brains and the brawn.

Now that I think about it, Kawata Sanae, the girl who was threatened with a wrench that Kengo mentioned in ep 7...seems like she wasn't present in the group of 5 girls. Looks like her younger sister, Kawata Kasumi can breathe a sigh of relief that her older sister isn't going to be charged for this incident.

Mmm...peach pie with white peaches...I wonder if it's more like a tart than a pie, but it sounds delicious.

I had the same reaction as Kobato as soon as I saw how much that parfait was, at 3980 Yen before tax, practically $40!

Next week, sounds like Kobato is going to be grilling Osanai for some answers. She definitely knows more than she lets on, as shown when she knew the identities of each of the girls by name, showing their surprise when Osanai revealed them to stall for time. Looks like we're finally maybe going to get the full details of their middle school days that led up to this point in her kidnapping.

Edit:
I just saw that next episode is 9/10...just two episodes left. Would have liked it more if they made it the usual 12 at least. Sad.

This wasn't as suspenseful as I thought it would be but the ending scene is having me wonder if Osanai got intentionally kidnapped to either test Kobato out or see how far these girls would go, hoping for her motive to be explained in the next episode.

Osanai must have photographic memory. Even without having a map before her, she knew the gymnasium is located between those two point of interest, and at the 1-4 mark.

Too bad we did not get to see the fight, but I can understand they left it out. Guys beating up chiks, even if it's justified and out of self-defense, showing it for entertainment purposes is just not cool.

Holy shit Osanai.

Yeah at this point, I don't think Osanai was the violent girl we hoped she was, but she'll do everything in her power to "take down" anyone who crosses her. So far from what we've seen she has caused 2 gangs to get arrested, she'll beat you up alright, but with the power of evidence and the law, I'd say that's badass in its own right.

Osanai, as much as she wants to be ordinary, always attracts misfortune, so I can't exactly fault her for wanting revenge if she can do something about it.

Though there's still a part of me that hopes Osanai would actually beat someone up lmao.

These two, Kobato and Osanai could be a legendary detective duo if they decide to pursue that career path in the future, just a thought.

Well, on the positive side, they are both very much aware of these aspects of their personalities and this is exactly why they're trying to become "ordinary people". Even if it doesn't always work out quite that well for them. Should be fine in any case as long as they have each other, though.

Osanai got kidnapped after being lured by lolipop, I loled, nice one Jogoro. I can actually see that happening. Hope the guy is okay though, seems like he took a beating. Five girls agaisnt two guys doesn't seem fair. Once again great visual representation of the events with beautiful backgrounds.

Kobato and Osanai on a cafe date but almost 4000 yen for a parfait seems expensive. Also yeah it was all planned by Osanai.

A very satisfying conclusion to last week's episode. The pacing was so well-thought-out that it felt like it went by in the blink of an eye!

I loved the riddle part with the text, as well as the really tense "field investigation" portion. I was actually scared for Osanai until her badass speech. Still, she's lucky to have people like Kobato and Doujima in her life (even if the latter didn't seem too bothered when he first heard she'd been kidnapped ^^').

Yeah, it looks like getting kidnapped was just another day in life for Osanai, I mean I knew those girls.. baddies, would not be able to do anything in the end, but the entire "getting kidnapped via a van and then getting subjected to PG-13 torture" felt hilarious to me, rather than something serious.

Now I hope she better explains if she actually got baited with a candy or not lol.

@SawronZXZ I dont want to give much spoilers, but one of the things that felt disappointing in this episode was that the inner monologue and frustration of Kobato while in the elevator trying to decide whether to save Yuki or not was not adapted completely.
Also in the lightnovel, instead of a knife, Hasemi was holding a lighter, trying to give Yuki a mark, and unlike anime, there was a whole talk between them before kobato and kengo sneaked in, also Hasemi wasn't like a psychopath trying to kill Yuki, there was a different reason, but I won't spoil it since it might be shown as a flashback in next episode.
also in the episode it seemed like kobato could solve everything himself and didnt need kengo but in ln kengo did a great help to kobato

Knew it, Osanai was hiding something about her kidnapping. I thought kengo would be involved too but it seems that he sustained some injuries, or maybe he is faking it because we didn’t see him at the end.

Pretty good plot with suspense and excitement in this episode, especially during the beginning and the middle points as well as the last scene at the end with another cliffhanger in the form of a surprise regarding character knowledge(Osanai). waiting to see what the effect of this is going to be, There are some causal gaps in the plot regarding Osanai with how she got kidnapped and kengo's altercation with the drug gang as well as osanai's messages, which could potentially be a setup by her and kengo.

More mystery was built here, a Nice set up for the next episode.

The tone in this episode was a bit darker compared to the previous ones, the non diagetic sounds and music were great(probably the best so far in the series), they created an air of mystery and suspense, it also helped set the tone and mood.

As for characterisation, Kobato is having another internal battle between two sides of himself which again results in more contradiction, this is being shown in every episode.

The cinematography in some scenes are focused on kobato and his fears, as shown with the shallow depth of field in the scenes with Osanai and the one with kengo at the latter half, There's also the scene where he is in the middle of a crowd of people moving in fast motion.

There was another use of non diagetic images, again with Kobato and Osanai, she is blindfolded and far away from him, which foreshadowed what was happening with Osanai after they found her.

It seems that The duration of the plot in this season 1 will take the entire season (summer), wondering if this will be the same for the next parts.

Lots of cliffhangers in These last few episodes, really excited to see what's next with only two episodes left.

That's a wild episode title... they really went with "C'mere, you want some free candy?" for a kidnapping episode. This is probably something related to the phone call that Yuki had a few episodes prior to this one. The situation didn't escalate too far, but it was still the most intense episode so far. Yuki still just cannot catch a single break.

Given the episode title, I thought the same thing as Kengo it wasn't too far-fetched to imagine Osanai following a stranger who offered her sweets. Kobato and Kengo did a great job finding Osanai, even better than the detectives and police in their city. It would have been interesting to see how Kobato and Kengo dealt with those girls, even if it was in self-defense. I suspect they didn't show that scene because of the issue of gender-based violence.

The thought that Osanai might have planned everything did cross my mind, but I was still surprised by how manipulative she could be. Though, I can't really blame her for wanting to further ruin the girl who bullied and harassed her in high school.

I like mysteries coming out of nowhere when watching this show. You know, they make a good couple but I don't think that's what is highlighted here. It's always some action, missed details, a little bit of fantasy, maybe scenes came out of Ghibli; when these are combined, you get the Shoshimin Series. It's unexplainable for me but, these episodes really make me feel like I'm in Japan, rather seeing this live or watching this in a peaceful environment, which puts me at ease. But according to me, the last episode was really terrifying. Please no one hurt Osanai 🥺
