NOTE: HIDIVE's streaming for the episode today is delayed until 10:30PM ET / 02:30AM UTC
https://twitter.com/HIDIVEofficial/status/1796597908260688336

Let the rivalry begin.

The performance by the band Laureley, led by Shiho, at the school festival audition was overwhelming. Both SSGIRLS and Laureley passed the audition, but Aki was shaken by Shiho's words after the performance. However, Aki was encouraged by Yori, who told her that Shiho seemed happier when she was with SSGIRLS. Resolving to face Shiho head-on, Aki made up her mind to confront her feelings.

If Shiho ends up liking Himari, my stress levels will skyrocket lol. Love triangles are stressful, especially in yuris, but they can also be quite exciting. Anways, that flashback segment about Shiho's backstory just made me dislike her even more. Cutting off a friend because they're better than you at something? Seriously? Was that flashback supposed to make me sympathize with her? I actually hate her even more now.

Putting Shiho aside, the studio really needs to give the staff a break. The production quality is really crumbling at the moment.
And I guess they are giving them a break, no episode for the next two weeks, then episode nine and ten air normally, and then... who knows.

We got to learn more about Shiho. She has some serious attitude problems, but her character makes this show very interesting at the moment. I liked her and Kyou's backstory. It's such a shame how their friendship was ruined because of Shiho's behavior. She couldn't accept the fact how she couldn't match up with Kyou's violin skills.

Shiho has big insecurities and a inferiority complex. Maybe too much pressure from her family? Instead of striving for a healthy rivalry, she pushes everyone way and puts on an arrogant attitude.
But I still find it difficult to feel sorry for her because she is so unsympathetic. Hopefully Kino can get through to her.

The violin rivalry that birthed the current Shiho. Alright episode but honestly the story of the production was the more interesting one to read this week.

Shiho backstory was the highlight of this episode, I definitely still don’t like her but I am intrigued by her character, and I’ll say this backstory of her’s still doesn’t make me like her lol, she had a nice friendship with Kyou but she squandered it because she felt inferior and could never measure up to Kyou with her own violin skills, if you ask me she should join a bluegrass band and play it as a fiddle instead lol, learning the bluegrass ways can only be a good influence. And after hitting a wall with her violin, she turned to what Kyou idolized, being the electric guitar, seems kinda petty but she’s definitely done something with it beyond her original reasoning for picking it up.

And there were some other good bits in this episode, like more cute moments between Kino and Yori (despite some scenes looking a bit weird), as well as Kino hanging with Miki which eventually lead to Kino discovering Shiho’s secret job. Also nice to see Shiho and her band got their own ED, and that is the same song that we heard last episode during their performance, it rocks for sure, one thing you can’t deny they nailed about this show is the music.

And very unfortunately, we got a 2 week delay between now and the next episode, it’s upsetting but I’d prefer we get a better product over something that looks even worse than some of the rough looking scenes of the show so far, because imo this is a good show and I want it to be as good as it can be. I’m just gonna miss this to end my Saturdays with for a bit lol.

The last 1/3 of the episode was great. I like how they presented Shiho's backstory. I don't know if the animation was better in that part or if maybe I was just less distracted by it due to the heightened interest. Some of the scenes prior to that were quite rough. A couple times it seemed like they were even using an entirely different color palette. Oh, well. I guess now we just have to wait a few weeks for the next episode :'(

ED was a banger this episode. I didn't realize it was the same song from last week until reading the comments.

I can really see it this episode that there sacrificing a fair few scenes to focus on the main plot. Which I don’t mind and at this rate they’ll probably manage to fit all of Shiho’s story in these remaining episodes.

Cause honestly Shiho, Hajime and Momoka are honestly far more compelling than ssgirls. Like don’t get me wrong I like everyone in this show. But once you find out there reason for being so passionate about their music it makes them a lot more compelling and interesting. It’s so sad why there in a band to begin with but at the same time it’s so sweet and beautiful. I love Shiho a lot.

And this episode gives a taste into that with Kyou. They made Kyou look gorgeous though she looked great on the violin.

I like that they switched the ed this ep with Shiho’s performance from the ep before

Ngl it’s never just been about the production values for me. Yea, they’re bad and after all the leaks that have come out, the staff clearly need more time and a break, but I also think the story just isn’t that good.(yet anyway) could be better later on in the manga, but just from what we’ve seen so far here, after Hima and Yori got together things got stale with them and the side characters are keeping it interesting.

The best part of this series thus far has without a doubt been Aki and Shiho, so getting a Shiho focused episode was very welcome.

Shiho’s let her insecurity get in her way since a child it seems. Ending a great relationship with Kyou just because Kyou was better than her. I’ll never understand why people act like that. You have a literal prodigy as a best friend, why not try to learn from her and just get better? Given that they skipped ahead past that to Shiho picking up guitar I doubt we’ll get any explanation as to whether or not this was something that came about from even earlier in her childhood or what.. I just don’t get why she continues to lash out on people.. it’s great for entertainment and drama, but still feel bad for everyone involved.

Hopefully the time off gives the team the time they need to cook up.

I can't believe there is a delay right when the anime is getting to its best part, so disappointing. I would hope that the remaining episodes are significantly better in quality but I kind of doubt it now. Such a shame with what happened to the production, I feel bad for the author because the manga is so good

We finally got a glimpse of Shiho's past, and why she suffers so much as she thinks she's inferior and why she belittles people, so it was a good episode looking forward to the duel between Lorelai and SS Grils, but nothing justifies her behaving like she does. One is stupid just because the other has more talent than her, that doesn't mean that you don't have talent or that you haven't tried hard, but always in life you will find yourself better than you at something. Good episode.

I'm now starting to like Shiho. Always the 2nd place, just like me in chiptune music contests. The ending song was a banger, I liked the fact that they focused the ed on the other band for the sake of variety.

Shiho story was something.. still don't like her but get her point of motivation.
The ED was outstanding way better than OP and previous ED, Shiho's song and visuals went perfectly.
Hoping that production quality improves after the delay because the story is very engaging really bad time to delay.

Shiho is so jealous of Yori haha.
It was interesting to learn more about her past and to find out she had that competitive side to her for a long time.
Seems like Himari is going to try to fix things between her and Aki/Yori, looking forward to see how it goes!

It's just too bad we have to wait 3 weeks to see that next episode.

Thank goodness for Hima. Shame she's like the therapist in this group but these girls need a mediator.

Given how competitive Shiho is, I can see how crushing it was for her when she kept losing to Kyou. Playing in recitals is a good way to improve and have some reward for your hard work but it can also work to humble someone. Unfortunately, Shiho decided to stop after a while. Kind of reminds me of the little brother who quit Shogi because Rei was becoming a rising star in the Shogi world. Just like him, Shiho couldn't reach those heights and becoming better than her rival so now she's trying to be the best at something else.

Sooner or later she's going to have to realize that being the best of anything is darn near impossible. Sure improve but don't obsess over it.

On another note, how the heck did her bear get in the tree?

Don't care at all about their school competition and the history between Shiho and the blonde which is unfortunate given its a major plotpoint. The romance between Himari and Yori feels shallow as well. The backstory of Shiho and how she started guitar was better but her arrogance makes it difficult for me to sympathize. What will she do if someone comes along (inevitably) who is better than her at singing or guitar? The poor animation is not the only issue going on with this anime...

Shiho cannot escape from past failures.

After Shiho's backstory, we know that Shiho couldn't accept this failure, until now she will always remember it. That's why her character is full of passion to become a pro musician.

I hope Aki can understand in the future about Shiho.

Deciding to get into that instrument to spite her is both based and petty, ofc there is a delay right when it was getting pretty interesting, what's worrying is that with the delay the show could end up coming back worse in animation quality instead of better, pure russian roulette when it comes to anime.

hiho's past is interesting, but I feel her behavior is quite extreme. She got angry at the other girl, who was all sweetness, just because she knocked her off her pedestal, thinking she was the best. It's not like the other girl mocked her at any point, and the only one who showed resentment was Shiho herself, drowning in her own poison.

The same goes for her fight with Aki, so I'm hoping that SSGIRLS wins the competition.

@Narizor
My feelings exactly!

I think this backstory episode was meant to make us root for Shiho as well as Aki or whatever, but it only made me dislike her even more. Like, WTH, woman? You don't deserve any friends, or a girlfriend for that matter, if the moment they're better than you at something you start treating them like trash just to make yourself feel superior. And you don't get to force your dreams on other people and act like it's their duty to accommodate your every whim, either. Who do you think you are?

That being said, I'm a bit interested to see how the competition with SSGirls will play out. At this point, beating Laureley in a show of skill seems impossible, so let's hope they don't resort to some kind of cheap trick to make Aki win. But at the same time, I do want someone to humble Shiho, so... Well, I'll just have to wait-- 3 more weeks to see, I suppose, haha.

I appreciate the backstory, though I'm going have to agree with others who are having difficulty sympathizing with Shiho. Her superiorty complex feels detrimental. It's not like she was being bullied because she wasn't as skilled at the violin as Kyou.

That being said, I'm still intrigued to see this competition between the two bands... though we have to wait for a couple of weeks 😔

Man, this has become worse than I thought, it's no clue that they had to delay this for weeks, this is barely put together through duct tape, it isn't that hard to understand how absolutely ludicrous the conditions of work is for this anime, and I thought that Mappa's JJK Season 2 was already very bad, but this is even worse.

Besides the animation, which, didn't look that bad today (a couple of funny looking faces at best) today's episode was mainly damaged by awkward pacing and very awkward transitions. I feel like they duct taped several manga chapters into one episode without it being coherent.

I'm pretty sure that Shiho isn't such an inept, one dimensional rival character that is highly competitive, but this anime is making her look this way, and it's not really helping her case.

This is beyond criminal, I hope this animators get the compensation they deserve and that they don't get disheartened by the backlash, because they're not the ones at fault here, the higher ups are. I doubt they'll get any compensation at all tho, this is just how fucked up the anime industry has become.

Truly despicable.

Although occasionally there will be a yuri show or 2 with standout animation like the magical revolution of the reincarnated princess and the genius young lady.

That yuri had really good animation

Looking at other people opinions they all mostly seem to hate Shiho too which makes me sad because she’s my favourite character in the show and easily the best written (imo)

But hey time will show more into her character and band. As the last few episodes progress. (Assuming they keep this pace up)

@Phantom_373 I mean, at this point in the show, her two main characteristics are arrogance, and spitefulness, not exactly the most likable traits. The thing that makes her interesting is all meta, the fact that the story is setting her up for growth/redemption/reconciliation.

@Phantom_373 No hate to Shiho...I think she's carrying the 2nd arc of the show fr fr! I honestly respect how committed she is to her spite. I love how her entire musical career and character development and her entire build up of her "tragic" backstory is not only entirely her fault, it is literally a "f*ck you in particular" for one specific person. Not a fan of Shiho, she's been ruining the series, I'm a little farther ahead in the manga than this episode.

Real question - why have I seen numerous spellings of the band name Lorelei. I assumed the subs were just potentially AI generated/bad, but I'm seeing people use that spelling. (Laureley)

Edit: Started reading volume 7 and I found out the answer to my question. The english manga is wrong for the first 6 volumes. So the manga translation was bad.

Woah, production values went to shit this episode. No wonder there is gonna be a two-week delay.

Also this Shiho girl has some serious attitude problems. Like, imagine getting that mad at the sweetest girl around just because she unintentionally, and without any trace of malice at all, gave you a well-deserved reality check. Girl, just how toxic can you be? No wonder no one wants to be around you.

Shiho's kinda petty. Though I can understand that feeling of going from number one to not anymore. I'm guessing that the reason she couldn't get better than Kyou was that she took it too seriously and forgot to actually treat playing as something fun, resulting in an accurate but rigid performance, and that Laureley will lose to SSGirls for the same reason

Honestly, I'd rather just have 20+ mins of Himari and Yori. Smol Himari head-patting tall Yori was the best part of the ep

Key point to take from that flashback is that Shiho is not a learning animal and she has let her ego destroy her relations with those around her since forever. So no, Himari, she is not a good person. Now, fortunately, a stake and a pile of firewood is all it would take to turn her into one.

The rivalry between Aki and Shiho really forced the former to rethink about how Yori is like to her, and not just in infatuation.

Both SSGIRLS and Shiho's band Laureley passing the audition, and Yori having a rather different take on how Aki saw Shiho in the former group, realizing this now may not make her return, but the former still MUST confront the latter and make things clear between both girls, deciding the fate at the cultural festival. Meanwhile, Himari giving a pat on Yori's head, and only realizing thereafter that both SSGIRLS and Laureley had the bad blood between them with Himari knowing none the wiser, things begin to clear up, and the rivalry is on. Miki knowing what Himari told her, and the latter wanting reconciliation between all parties, it's a rather uphill battle, but it can be done.

What a coincidence for Shiho to be working part-time, and getting caught by Himari while at it. And on that cusp, Himari wanting to understand Shiho and her aspirations for going pro, she's preset on success from a young age focusing on the violin...and also helping a girl find her stuffed animal which had gotten lost, which her (Kyou) and Shiho become best friends going to the same middle school...and also in the violin competition as well, until she heard Kyou's playing, which trounced her No. 1 spot and forced her to give up on the instrument...and then remembering that she loved the guitar, and taking that challenge as her own.

Shiho's really the kind of person where the word "Lose" is not in her dictionary.

oh my world. this is the lamest villain origin story i've ever heard.

she's been full of herself all her life then got humbled once and threw away the violin altogether? if you love doing something you have to accept you might not be the best in the world. how does she think normal people live? people have hobbies for a reason: not everyone can make a living off them but do they have to be condemned to a joyless life?

i don't get her logic and this episode just cemented her as the resident spoiled brat of the show

"there is just one thing i want you to admit. asanagi san is nothing compared to me when it comes to technique or singing skill. she isn't what SS needs."

GIRL YOU FORCED THEM TO FIND A REPLACEMENT FOR YOU - ofc you're better, why do you think you were their firs choice? the inferiority complex is showing through
