Tsurumi is probably the most cunning and clever character in the show, not afraid of taking any risk or gamble for his traps. Seriously, this guy is like a master of mind games.

This was also another somewhat emotional episode from a human perspective.

  • The girl counting cash while she was crying was hilarious.
  • Things have got entangled and some people are happy to be a puppet. What contorted minds they've got. In such a situation, Shiraishi, who usually is playing fool, behaved seriously.

So good to be back with the usual tactics and mind games, and on both sides that is. Double agents never see a good end, so good luck to Ariko.

This episode once again established there's no big actor than Tsurumi, the lone man with his iq in four figures.. and this ain't satire but compliment.

The seemingly separate story threads from the early episodes have finally clicked together and things have kicked into high gear. I doubt we'll be slowing down much until the end of the season, and it seems like the next episode will already be incredibly tense.

I like the mental games between Hijikata and Tsurumi.

Cikapasi and Tanigaki scene was the definition of manly tears.

Yes. You will be a boner,Cikapasi. - Tanigaki Genjirou.

Is better know that you are being manipulated, than not knowing.

I'm surprised at how Golden Kamuy can still surprise me in its 4th season. The first half, I watch the Ainu soldier Ariko went from honest soldier to spy to double agent to possibly triple agent, a role that is bigger than his capability.

That Ainu kid stop his adventure, meaning that there are going to be a lot of fight from now on.

We all know how legendary Hijikata is, and I'm glad that Golden Kamuy create a perfect rival to him, Tsurumi. It's like Alien vs Predator and Sugimoto-Asirpa are the human faction.

The return of the psychological game of getting as much tattoos as possible, it all hinges on 1 person: Ariko Ipopte, being a double spy for Lieutenant Tsurumi and Hijikata's army. Tsurumi has known it all, and he'll spare no effort to let Ariko loose and make sure he fulfills his mission of bringing the cleverly made fakes over to Hijikata and convince him that it's the real thing. But Hijikata has already known this fact, and this proves that with the plan he set out as early as he could, he's on his way to knowing where the gold lies with the half-truths becoming a full truth. Smart thinking.

Sugimoto and gang's return to Enonoka's village to bid her and Henke farewell, but Cikapasi isn't all ready to let go just yet, and Tanigaki knowing this with how he left Inkarmat all by herself when he was gone, he's not gonna imbue the same value towards Cikapasi, but only one: like a boner. The route thereafter, and Koito feels an inkling that whatever Ogata said to him in the past, it only made sense now that Tsukishima would not budge a feet on what he knows, letting himself be used by those who saved his life i.e. Lieutenant Tsurumi. Manchuria, Koito's father's company, Tsurumi's sweet lies have everyone clasped in his fingertips, and Koito finally realized to put on an act.

The day of the meet, and aside from the Ainu gold, Shiraishi goes unhinged against Sugimoto weaving Asirpa into his very hands, it's a decision made that determines life and death. How will the trade in Karafuto go?

Shiraishi giving Sugimoto the wake up call he needed. Asirpa isn't some frail little girl that needs protecting nor is she the same naive small village hunter that Sugimoto meet at the start of this story. If her dream now is to lead to Ainu then that's what she should do. Asirpa can make her own decisions even if their dangerous ones. Tsurumi cannot be trusted to honor any deals or show any care for the Ainu. Even if taking his deal would probably keep Asirpa herself safe it could mean disastrous for many others. Sugimoto heart is in the right place but that's not a decision he can make for Asirpa, she has to make her own. Tsurumi has been working the long game to end all long games. A couple episodes ago I suspected that Tsurumi setup the Koito kidnapping to earn their trust and now it's confirmed. Tsurumi did all that as just another step in his plan. He's one of the most conniving villains I've ever seen and absolutely cannot be trusted. Cikapasi goodbye made me tear up again. Just like last episode merely thinking about Cikapasi and Tanigaki having to separate. They've been through so much together over these many seasons. I hope that Cikapasi lives a happy like with Henke, Enonoka, and Ryu.

Golden Kamuy low key has the best story off all the anime in this blockbuster season. But that's almost always the case, so it's no big surprise.

Koito is confusing to me tho. They say the people most devoted to you are the most dangerous, and who knows if Koito won't change his mind and try to kill Tsurumi if he gets slighted in a way he can't accept.

I really do wonder how Shiraishi will end up when this story is over. The only way I can see Sugimoto forgiving him is if our favorite coward is on death's door, ready to die.

Tsurumi should get a job at UA high school, because his ability to create suicidal soldiers who have no fear is eerily comparable.

The animation is, mildly said, superb! And the details...when Shiraishi was drunk talking to Sugimoto out and their breaths were visible? Or when he was throwing up and there was steam coming out of his vomit? I didn't expect this kind of realisitic detail

I would love to throw hands with Usami tbh. He seems like a good sparring parter.

"You will be like a boner" Final words befitting a manly farewell. Even if I sound like a broken record, the bits of crude humor sprinkled in the emotional scenes never miss and give Golden Kamuy it's distinctive character. Like the reality check Sugimito received from Shiraishi gave me chills. His body was clowning, yet his mouth was spittin. Pray for an ample share of gold for the man, so that he doesn't have to go for the down horrendous level of bad prostitutes.

Tsukishima appears to suppress his thoughts by rationalizing his dedication to Tsurumi. Is it a rude awakening that's awaiting him when he learns more about their "saviors" motivation? Koito is already too far gone lmao

Another episode of peak storytelling. The battle of wits at this stage of such an epic adventure amp up the tension which was already high.

5/5

It looks like a lot of the story points are starting to converge into each other now and it has me excited. =)

The psychological game between Tsurumi and Hijikata was engaging and rather cool. I do feel for Arito for the position he's in as a double agent, but at least he's still alive and kicking.

We also had to say farewell to Cikapasi as he decided that he wanted to stay with Enonoka at the small village. His talk with Tanigaki (who shed manly tears as a result) as they said goodbye to each other, along with the inspirational boner message, was very well done.

I can understand Sugimoto's stance with Asirpa, but he was good to see Shiraishi put his foot down and gave Sugimoto the vocal double barrel treatment at him about Asirpa that he really needed to hear, before he vomited and farted into the ground likes a mess that he is. XD

With everything coming together even more now than before, things will most likely become hectic. I hope that Sugimoto will continue to protect Asirpa as much as he can, but at the same time, let her choose what she truly wants to do.

This was an episode of big brain plays and serious moments, turns out the deal with the blind guy and Ariko wasn’t done, and now Ariko is a double triple agent or something for Tsurumi and Hijikata lol. And the goodbye Enonoka was already pretty heartfelt, then they layered on Tanigaki saying goodbye to Cikapasi which was definitely touching, Tanigaki even gave his rifle he got from the boner guy to him, he’ll be the best damn boner there ever was lol, Golden Kamuy is good at having you laughing right after a feelsy moment like that.

And then there was Koito figuring out Tsurumi by confronting Tsukishima, and that Koito realized Tsurumi’s entire plot as Tsukishima has already given in, to which Koito just appears to be even more of a Tsurumi fanatic now lol, but I do wonder if he was just putting on a show to fool Tsukishima or not, I can see both being true. And Shiraishi drunkenly spitting facts to Sugimoto was an awesome way to end it with the ED playing, and once again the immediate comedy with that fart and puking lol. And man it really is a shame we might have to wait a while for the rest of this, but I’m very sorry for the loss and I hope they get ample time make a comeback to this peak anime.

Hijikata and Tsurumi mind battle.

Tanigaki saying goodbye to Cikapasi broke my heart.
also farewell to Enonoka and Ryu.

Koito realization about Tsurumi only make him simping more.

Only in Golden Kamuy they can make Sugimoto and Shiraishi conversation so emotional and funny at the same time.

Hijikata and Tsurumi playing chess and poor Ariko is the chess piece. Damn, what a fantastic episode with all the plot points so far this season coming together.

Man, actually going to miss Cikapasi and Enonoka. Can't believe a speech about being a boner can make me emotional, they're standing up forreal forreal.

Conversation and the reveals between Koito and Tsukishima were fucking great, I cannot tell if Koito is actually still really amazed with Tsurumi, I'm 50/50, but I guess I am leaning more towards him faking it.

The facial expressions, the puking and the farting on Shiraishi's speech to Sugimoto though, beautiful.

It's really sad to hear what happened to one of the anime's staff members, postponing the rest of the episodes is understandable, plus it probably has an effect on the production. Anyway, I think we stopped at a good point. Really looking forward for the remaining half of the season, whenever it may come.

Whoever chose that the ED should play over Shiraishi's speech made a big mistake. It turned what should have been a tense scene (with comedic payoff at the end) into an incomprehensible one. I'm guessing they're contracted to play it every episode or something, because I don't see why someone would make that choice otherwise.

At last, we're back on track with the gold hunt. I gotta say it's kinda hard follow main plot with every episode full of context, and I don't quite remember every single name and place, and all the events that happened prior to this season. Having said that, it still gives me the same enjoyment I got since the beginning of the series.

Yeah that was laughably bad. I couldn't help but notice several "derp" faces like that this week. To be fair some, like Shiraishi's during his speech, were likely intentional. The material itself remains very strong and was adapted well aside from a few poor faces as mentioned.

And so now we go on indefinite hiatus due to tragic circumstances. If anyone's curious this episode adapted almost all of the back-half of Volume 21 of the manga(the manga ended earlier this year with 31 Volumes total.) Only the last few pages of Volume 21's last chapter weren't adapted and next episode's title is the same as Chapter 2 of Volume 22 so...yeah. Unfortunate this happened, but if I'm not mistaken isn't Isekai Ojisan supposed to be returning from its hiatus later on this month? Maybe that can fill the void for awhile while the staff of this series gets things sorted out and back on track for what will hopefully be a strong second half of this season on route to an eventual complete adaptation.
