A lot of despair as I had expected this episode from the narratives. It's kinda hard to see a girl being feeling so lonely in society like that.

Iroha's personality and ability to connect with other plays an important role in this episode. And as usual, this show sells its surreal style so well. That embrace ;_;

Rumor of invisible man... jump down (suicide?) and get to the end... She wants someone to jump down and delete her.

Main girl volunteers because she contacted her.

Green twin hair girl (Yui Ogura) is trapped. Playing chess with an existence? What? Her wish to be magical girl was to be invisible "volunteerly"?!

"AI" wanting main girl to pick green twin tail hair girl up, but she refuses.

Another girl (long green hair girl, seems to be part of the enemy group) appeared. AI sent her away, and asked twin tail girl to kill her.

Sana's story was really cruel and sad. She finally made a friend but had to kill her, this was too cruel.

Don't know if it was intentional or not, but that fight scene against Alina was totally confusing. Other than that, it was an all right episode.

The conversation with Ai though sure was insightful. Thats quite the method to enter the endless solitude though. Even before her entry into the space looks like Sana had quite the rough life. Being treated as being invisible by both family and schoolmates sure was harsh. Just as Sana taught Ai so much that Ai herself went far to ensure that Sana herself will be happy. The battle between Iroha/Ai and Alina Gray though sure was a curious one though. Though it was sad seeing Ai vanish Ai's actions did well in giving Sana the final push she needed. Overall an interesting ep that did well in introducing the characters of Sana and Ai as well as show that resistance to the Wings of the magius can come from other quarters as well. Ai's resistance to their plans as a result of her interactions with Sana was pretty heartwarming to see.

I totally agree! This was my favourite episode so far but the fight scene was poorly choreographed.

Interesting episode! Direction is impeccable as ever.

Wings of the Magius are definitely up to no good, that's for certain now. Quite the intense battle this time around too albeit a little confusing overall due to the off choreography.

Sana's family and school lives/circumstances were so heartbreaking to see. And just when things seemed to be getting a little brighter for her alongside Ai, this happens. Life is cruel but even more so for Magical Girls...

Looking forward to seeing what's next in store for us! Kamihama Central Tower, I've a feeling we're slowly approaching the climax of this season soon.

I cried my eyes out when Sana had to put Ai down ;_;

I feel like the director did a really fantastic job of getting Sana's emotions across. It was impressive to me how succinctly they were able to portray Sana's backstory.

I might be biased because I already loved Sana from playing the mobile game. I wonder if anime-only watchers felt the same level of connection with her this episode?

I feel that. (anime-only here)

Sana-chan is very well introduced and and becomes one of my favorites in just one episode. I already like her better than Felicia, Tsuruno and Momoko's team.

This episode makes it even clearer that Doroinu's direction is exceptional in calm and dramatic moments but a little bad in the action. The only thing I don't like about this episode is the action sequence with Alina Gray's attacks, when everything seemed a little confusing. This aside, the episode is great in the introduction of the new character plus a change of perspective on the rumors, and becomes my favorite so far.

A great episode but i feel the intruducing Alina part was so freaking rushed and i cant see most of the gaps she has while talking to the girls and justifing was she doing (like the nee's), dont gonna lie, when the episode finished was bittersweet for me cuz the time was so little for this part of the story...

Yeah, the fight scene was quite confusing. But anime Ai was better than I expected.

I wonder what they're going to do with a certain pair of characters. They should be appearing in the next episode since they weren't in this one.

Looks like the cut-off point will be at the end of chapter 6, as I thought.

What a great episode! Almost in tears, really beautiful ending to Sana and Ai's relationship. It's sad, but it was always going to have to end given that Ai is an A.I. I don't think there was any better way for her to go out than by her friend's hands. This Alina Gray seems fun though, can't wait to see more of her.

This was definitely the best episode since Mami's appearance a few weeks ago.A lot of people like to say that this isn't as good as PMMM, I think it's just as good just in a different way and very underrated. Story isn't as dark, but I love the writing, characters and plot. I absolutely love SHAFT's direction in this as well. The quick cuts between characters and other objects, holding shots, etc. Keeps me glued to the screen and visually stimulated. They've done a great job of bringing talking heads to life. Can't wait for next ep

Have a great weekend everyone.

In the end it was not Sana Futaba who contacted Iroha, but it was someone who knew her or rather had her trapped.

Ai turned out to be an artificial intelligence and in turn a rumor that was controlled by the Wings of Magius, Ai was the infinite Solitude and it turns out that she was with Sana, who wanted to run away from her miserable life, a girl who was not loved by her family and that she had no one to call a friend, only the kindness that this girl possessed, but in her days in infinite Solitude, she connected with Ai and a particular friendship emerged, but Ai did not want Sana to remain trapped and did not want continue to be used by Magius Wings members.
Iroha comes to fulfill Ai's request, but Sana does not want to leave, that place where she and Ai lived was her perfect world, but at the moment when they were both talking Alina Gray, a magical girl who belongs to the Wings of Magius.
With the pain of her soul, Sana frees her dear friend Ai and now she and Iroha will be released somewhere unknown to both girls, but not to Iroha's friends.

I suffered a lot with the story of poor Sana, who felt alienated from society, I hope Iroha can support her, now more than ever Sana needs emotional support, is not easy to have to kill who saved you from so much pain, Sana deserves hundreds of headpats and hugs.

That's pretty cruel, finding a friend in a world outside of the real world, give her a name and destroy her in the end. It was pretty sad, but it was the wish of Ai to give Sana another chance in the real world with the other magical girls!

Hmmm yes I agree for the first part but I want to say that the calculations on time that these disciplines offer, particularly in mathematics, suggest that it is perfectly autonomous, such perspectives then omit the initial inscription of these measures in the experimentation which the consciousness operates
It's the same in Magia Record, in other words, there is no pure present, pure instantaneity of our consciousness; what works is always a flow of present, a flow of consciousness. The past is thus only to consciousness what it retains at the present moment from previous phenomena. And the future is only the protection, that is to say the projection and the anticipation of consciousness towards potential future phenomena.
Iroha has a complicated future because being is a being of potentiality, of possibilities. Its relation to time must not be that of a simple causalism, sequences of events and their effects, because that corresponds only to an abstract apprehension of time and existence. An embodied time is a time in which the consciousness is thrown head over heels, and in which it is inevitably thrown.

So Sana came from a family that didn't love her and were much too demanding (her score test was 70/100 which isn't too bad).
This show just made me feels for the Uwasa!

Agreed fight scene was confusing to watch. What i got was the Uwasa blocked Alina's attack.
Then suddenly Sana was in front of her. Or something.

funny chess game they are playing, with cute animals slapping and licking each other.

Sad that the Ai has to be erased, but Sana cannot stay there forever. Also if the Ai is not detroyed, Wings of Magius would try to learn how it gained a personality.

Sana's past is really sad and so is Felicia's, not to mention Yachiyo. In these last episodes the anime starts to get more and more sad, and I hope it will continue until we see some tragedies. Game players please dont spoil me, let me have some hope.

So it's clear that the girl with glasses and the girl she pledged to protect are not going to appear (yet). Taking hints from the OP, Mami appears to be in the foreground, while Kyoko just behind her, and Sayaka is just leaning on the wall adjacent to Kyoko. Madoka and Homura are in the background way far from Sayaka, which should mean Sayaka will make a cameo before Madoka and Homura appear. I think Madoka and Homura appear will appear in the final episode, and it'll be interesting to see what role they'll play.

We're left with 4 more episodes and the next episode will probably finish Chapter 5 of the game. That leaves us with only 3 more episodes, which will adapt Chapter 6 and probably end on a cliffhanger. The remaining 4 chapters of arc 1 will probably be adapted later. I hope they'll reveal what happened to Kuroe.

Poor Sana. Having her mother remarry and having a step-father and step-siblings came be a great thing, but it was the complete opposite for her. The way that she got disowned like that, even though she had a nice personality and was getting good grades at school was simply appalling. It's no wonder why she wanted to disappear from the world and helped by her magical girl wish of becoming invisible to everyone else, when she heard of the endless solitude rumour, she didn't hesitate to jump off that tower to see if it was true or not.

With that in mind, Ai did the right thing to call out to Iroha and have her come into the endless solitude to get Sana out of the place. However, a new magical girl, Alina, had other ideas as she arrived on the scene to cause some mayhem.

The fight was a bit confusing, admittedly. The animation and character models were fine, but the fight had too many scenes that changed far too quickly, which made the whole thing a bit messy. Shame, since the small fight scene with Iroha in the last episode was done way better.

In the end, Ai got Alina out of the place and, while already heavily injured, asked Sana to deal the final blow to her and move on form the endless solitude. This scene was pretty sad and emotional, helped by the beautiful OST that played here. Nicely done. =)

Great episode overall and I hope Sana can become a great asset to Iroha, Yachiyo and the others in the future.

Overall, I liked this episode, but the fight with Alina was incredibly rushed. They introduced the high notes of her character and gave Sana a reason to leave, but it would've been better had it been given room to breathe. Other than that, the pacing was great and the scene where Sana deletes Ai is extremely touching.

That said, it seems like they are going to observe the same cadence through the end of the series, but the way they rewrote this chapter to feel so natural leave me optimistic that they'll make it work. I am a bit puzzled about how they'll work in Homura and Madoka, though, since they were supposed to appear in this chapter.

What a mess of an episode.
The materialized rumor that is also a computer program that also inhibits a pocket dimension of it's own and kidnaps children all for the sake of evil organization's plans, but by the end of the episode it's gone so none of the above is explained properly?
The new character about whom we don't know anything but apparently everyone was mean to her in the past for no reason so i guess i should feel bad for her?
The out-of-nowhere new enemy who appears for 2 minutes, splashes colorful circles all over the screen so you can't figure out what the hell is going on, and then disappears?
Finally, the mind-controlling paint!?

Either i'm getting too old or that's a tad too much of stuff to introduce within 20 minutes and this series has a real problem with pacing. Also this episode felt disconnect from the previous one, which was supposed to set it up, i think because in previous episode we saw mostly Iroha investigating clues about the rumor, but in this episode she barely did anything.

It really happened in the game. People in her househeld have treated her like she was never there. She was totally ignored as if she never existed because she couldn't reach their high standards.

Not gonna lie, (re-)using Alina's game voicelines at random did throw me a bit off, but Sana shutting down Ai had an emotional punch to it. Also uhm interesting choice in changing Alina's italian to english.

I still think the game format with heaps of story each chapter (and magical girl stories to further develop the characters) isn't suiting the anime very well tbh, which is a shame. I feel like people don't have enough time to care about any of the characters and none receive enough characterization to be 'attention-worthy' to the audience. I was an anime-only until about two weeks ago and only after playing the game do I feel any kind of connection to the girls or care about the development of the plot. It's a shame really, because the game really captured me.

Alina always spoke gratuitous English; the Italian is entirely an affection of the translation to try and keep the feel.

There's simply too much plot for it to adapt well to the limited runtime of a single cour; this episode's tact of rewriting things to cover the most important things while completely discarding that which can be let go is about the only way it can be made to work.

It's not too complicated: Ai was created in a lab, got to the internet and developed in ways her creators didn't like, so they got rid of her; when she became an uwasa, her rumor was kidnapping girls to have as conversation partners. As for aiding the Magius, she does that simply by existing, like every other uwasa we've seen; she's simply able to appreciate the human cost, thanks to Sana, and has decided she wants no part of it.

Also, it's been established from the beginning that uwasa have labyrinths of their own, so I'm not sure why you're whipping that out as a complaint.

Yes, she spoke gratuitous english, but they cut the italian out completely. I'm not complaining, just pointing out it was a change that was made and I particularly feel like the italian would fit the 'mad artist' feel better, but it's not a big deal (it isn't even a 'deal' to begin with).

I think some changes made to the story by the anime staff throughout the run of the show so far have been really smart and, at times, improvements. For example, I think the Rumor of Ending Friendship was better handled by the anime than by the game.

Even then, as someone that has watched the anime before and after playing the game, the characterization department has been really lacking thus far. I also feel I better understand what's actually going on and I'm not confused for most of the runtime.

However, I do agree one cour restricts the writers a lot considering how much there's to adapt, but I believe the audience that doesn't play the game or has no interest in it will leave the series feeling underwhelmed, as seen by the other user you're answering to.

I didn't really like this episode. Sana's backstory seems over the top. Alina seemed to appear from nowhere just to be evil. Why couldn't Sana stay with Ai if she was happy there and hadn't been happy elsewhere? Didn't make sense to me. If you find love, hang onto it, don't go back to where people say you should get it but it's lacking.

Sana's backstory is one that happens in real life so it's hard to call it over the top.

Sana couldn't stay with Ai as Ai didn't want to be used by the Magius any longer, imagine being controlled by a group that makes you do something you dislike, you would also want to rebel.

Ai knew that the biggest way to rebel would be by dying as it would remove any data the Magius could obtain about Uwasa's gaining a personality, and she tried to contact a kind magical girl that would be able to help Sana once she was gone (she found Iroha).

Her asking Sana to kill/delete her was the kindest thing she could do for Sana, it made it so Sana had a reason to live and move on from the past

Staying with Sana permanently would also be impossible as Sana would need grief seeds soon (and if she used a Doppel to remove the impurities it could accidentally kill Ai, just like how Kaede almost killed her friends the other episode)

That was a funny thing. The subs had "girls" but it really said "children" and some of those figures look more like they're supposed to be boys.
I feel like the subs just keep getting worse. I didn't really have complaints about the first episode but now I keep finding questionable translations.

Did they just adapt Sana's arc WITHOUT Madoka and Homura? The original protagonist got 'shafted' hard smh...

They probably have a better plan for those two. Maybe keeping the best girls for the final episode.

Yeah, I hope it'd be something like that. Somehow, I'm getting this feeling that they'll end this season after introducing Madoka.

Ai was created in a lab, got to the internet and developed in ways her creators didn't like, so they got rid of her; when she became an uwasa, her rumor was kidnapping girls to have as conversation partners.

Aren't all rumors supposed to be
I thought the whole Artificial Intelligence story was made up because the idea that
just sounds unnecessarily over-the-top to me. As for it having a labyrinth of it's own, i don't recall any of them previously shown in the franchise to be transformed by owner into whatever they want at will .

Yes, she spoke gratuitous english, but they cut the italian out completely. I'm not complaining, just pointing out it was a change that was made

The anime staff didn't cut or change anything in that regard- she doesn't speak Italian in the original(japanese) version of the game, it is only present in English translation.

No wonder why people here found the fight scene amusing, they tried to adapt Bourne style quick cuts and shaky cam but sorry not work for this context. Other than that great ep, feels more in tone with original anime. Although I find Alina's appearance here too brief, should have save her for next episode tbh.

Don't worry, it's not just you :-)

I mean, I can understand why people would like this episode at first glance. But if you look at the bigger picture... we're at episode 10, and the show still lacks some semblance of overall plot. I can't even begin to imagine what next episode could be about other than "Iroha investigates another barely-related rumor".

I can understand this is meant to be a more long-winded story than the original Madoka, but come on - even by ep. 3, the original Madoka already had more of an overall direction than Magia Record has by ep. 10.
