Nice, the dancing competition heated up on stage this episode.
We got more storytelling focused on Koumoto's side. She and her partner also seems to have a lot fun while dancing and smiling.

Tatara and Chinatsu still kept their momentum going and I bet her mother is proud.

The scenes between Hyoudou and Tatara are much more amusing than I had anticipated lul

Both Tatara and Chinatsu advanced, but the couple is not solid yet!!! But this is the normal, because, if not remember bad, Hyoudou said in the last chapter, that the couples that advance are the couples are always speaking, although this couple when start to dance is not speaking, are screaming!!!! kekeke

Well, I suppose that this first season will end with the end of this competition because, with a lot of flashbacks, the rhythm is cut very often!!!

The comedy in this episode was pretty funny. More backstory for Akira. I wasn't expecting more from her, but I didn't mind. She's desperately trying to get Chinatsu's attention. Also got to see how she partnered up with Gorou. She asked him because of some angry impulse. Tatara's muscles getting separated by Kiyoharu looked painful. Because of that, Tatara's body started moving way too much. I wonder what Kiyoharu did to him.

Great episode as always.

Glad to see more of Akira's backstory, she really wants to be with Chinatsu no matter what. The scene with her crying in the cafe after Chinatsu had quit was really sad. I can see why she was acting all smug towards her, it was probably just to provoke Chinatsu into getting back into dance and it looks like it worked.

The Akira couple's dance was nice but too bad they dropped out.

Liked the part where Chinatsu's parents teased Tatara. xD
Speaking of which, Tatara should really talk to his Dad about his passion for dance.

Hyoudou stretching Tatara was hilarious. xD
Kugimiya stating the hard facts to Tatara before the semi finals was definitely something he needed.

It looks like Hyoudou's stretching might have backfired, or did it?

God, I'm always on the proverbial edge of my seat when the episode is over! I do very much enjoy the character development, side stories, and encompassing cadence of the show but I want to see more on the floor dancing! I love it when Tatara breaks out of his shell and surprises everyone (including himself) with his moves, yet this happens not too often. Next episode, this definitely will, but I have to wait a whole 168 hours before then...I need a remote control time fast-forward button. -.- Please.

I really loved how Akira and Chinatsu interacted with each other this episode. The comedy elements and exaggerated cartoon-like faces and the bananas were great, but the growth of both characters was something extra special. Nothing was shoved down the viewers throat; it was just all implied, which made it even better.

Another thing that I love about this show and I love just about everything is that the canon romantic ship isn't obvious. Right now, I am leaning more towards Chinatsu, but also she could just be Tatara's dancing partner for life.

Also...Hyoudou and Tatara stretching sounds ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

I am sad there are only 4 episodes left.... I hope that the sales do well so we can get more of the anime, but will DEFINITELY be marathoning the manga after the anime is complete.

I loved the banana eating part and the part when Chinatsu was making fun of them for getting eliminated the main reason I watched this anime so i'm satisfied.

@Inugirlz it's supposedly going to surpass the manga so we should expect the arc to be wrapped up in the anime first and then the manga soon after.

um no, this is early ch42 and the manga is in ch45 atm.
Considering we have around 100pages left they'll have enough material for the next 4 episodes.
porb gonna end with the conclusion of the tournament with the "whats next" kinda ending scene.

I know it hasn't caught up yet, there's still some more story to cover but it doesn't seem like much to cover 4 more eps. There's the stuff with Kugamiya which I don't think needs more than 1 episode. Then a bit more dancing from Tatara and Chinatsu...then what?

That suggestive stretching scene between Tatara and Hyodo though.....I'm sure what Hyodo did was supposed to help Tatara but right now it seems to be having the opposite effect. Hopefully Tatara can regain control of his movements soon, especially since he and Chinatsu are about to collide with another pair.

Also, that part where Tatara was blankly staring at the lovey-dovey couple and then said "I hope they drop out" was hilarious lol.

Although the progression of the dance competition was slow, there was plenty of funny scenes throughout the whole episode. From Hyodo's suggestive position he took as he stretched Tatara's limbs about, Mine's daughter's intense staring face at Tatara, Akira being VERY clingy on Chinatsu when she got ignored by her again and Tatara hoping that a couple, who're madly in love with each, would drop out due to jealousy. XD

The episode showed more insight about Mine's past and how he and Akira became a dance couple. Mine's one admirable man though, with his modesty and his genuinely cute smiles, he's fastly becoming one of my favourite side characters in this show.

Despite Tatara's stumble at the start of the semi-finals, I'm sure he'll be fine, despite the cliffhanger ending here. Whether he and Chinatsu will win the competition though, well, I'm sure we'll find out eventually. =)

Good episode overall, even thos I was a bit disappointed by Akiras dance :S

Comedy was strong this time,Akira and Chinatsu made some seriously funny faces and Gorous naivety regarding his daughter, tho, her glare was priceless xD

In the end it rather felt like an exposition episode for the serious part of the comp imo, guess the next episodes will be truly amazing.

I'm probably a lone wolf in this but one thing that has bothered me with is anime how they focus too long (I feel) on one aspect. It's nice to get background on Akira but I didn't need a whole episode on her crush for Chinatsu and desire for her attention. Half the episode would have been enough.

Would like for them to move the competition along more quickly because I'm more interested in seeing if Tatara & Chinatsu can come together on the dance floor and finally find that cohesion.

You are not alone, I am so done with the Akira stuff.

I actually felt like this episode was kinda flighty. Nothing new going on and maybe it's just me but I felt like the art was really shoddy in parts.

Count me in. The Akira background went on for too long. I also feel like we're stalling with the same problems with lack of chemistry between Chinatsu and Tatara. I want them to improve already or move on with another couple if they can't.

Less dancing again, but lots of humor this episode.

All the faces! And Akira crying next to Chinatsu! Aoi Yuuki is soo good!

Gotta love the scene when Hyoudou starts manhandling Tatara. I like how Hyoudou is just so nonchalant, even coming out of the restroom with his clothes wet and having to wear a towel. And yes, the best meal for the girls is bananas.

A heart collides with Tatara's head. "I hope these two drop out." This actually is the first time in the series where he thinks like that, isn't it? Well that took a while to get to...

The anime is coming to a close, so I assume that the final episode will be the finals of this competition. There's been a lot of still frames with the dances, so I.G. better give it their all when the time comes.

Another good episode!
Akira has really serious complex issues with Chinatsu!
Now that hurt! being stepped by that pointed dance shoes of Chinatsu!
LOL at Akira suddenly butting-in between Tatara & Chinatsu! Yuuki Aoi's crying acting to please the attention of Chinatsu was really top notch!
Funniest part of this episode was the forced ugliness of the glasses little daughter of the partner of Akira doing a very hard stare to Tatara! LOLZ!!
Another funny part is the goofy faces of Akira & Chinatsu while eating their Bananas!
This episode was the most evil of Chinatsu, poor Akira, I feel a bit of pity on her because on how Chinatsu looked lowly on her and her sarcastic comments!
Oh look at that, Tatara's movements became sluggish or a but of uncontrollable movements because of that Hyodo did to him... (ripping out his muscles to be stretchy!)
5/5.

I feel the same way. I'm not surprised at people losing interest. The anime just lacks the emotional depth and excitement/tension that made the manga so good. The weird art, lack of dancing and bad choice of songs doesn't help either. The characters lack the charm/nuances that their manga counterparts possess. I found akira's backstory touching in the manga (teared up abit) but here I felt nothing for her. Just look at what they did with kugimiya. He's a totally different character in the anime. They have made him a typical antagonist. Even his design is changed to make him look evil. Every awkward/funny moment of his got cut. Instead of showing a different side of him through his interactions with his cute little cousins, we got a sulking kugimiya.

And am I the only manga reader who doesn't find anime tatara endearing at all? Manga tatara has a really cute puppy face while anime tatara is more mature looking like someone from the haikyuu!! series. His VA's whiny voice doesn't help either. I don't like how they changed some of his reactions to chinatsu. He's too meek in the anime version while manga tatara talked back to her and had angrier expressions. He almost made her cry when he scolded her for making fun of dance. When chinatsu says that she doesn't want him to lead, he snaps at her "then you can dance on your own!". During practices (especially the last day before competition), he had super pissed off face.

I have issues with anime chinatsu too. They made her way more moody or at least focus more on her stubborn side. There are two times other than their fight at camp where she tears up/cries but the anime made her look mad in those scenes instead. When tatara scolds her for making fun of him and when they drop out from grandprix because of tatara's zoning out. Also, when tatara tells her that he wants to practice alone for some time and she answers "okay, if you say so" and stays silent when gaju expresses his disbelieve at her response, the scene ends there but the anime added her angry bickering with gaju. It seemed out of place. Then we didn't see chinatsu helping him learn other dances like Latin. Marisa noted chinatsu's positive influence on tatara's dancing (this was before she became their coach). The build up of her frustration/outburst at the camp was not as well executed as the manga. In the manga, it was more obvious how much chinatsu was holding back. She took tatara's "follow me" seriously and actually followed him to the grandprix but he broke her trust by freaking out and having them to drop out in the preliminaries. How she was nervous about camp and scared of marisa's lessons but still went with tatara. After their outburst, tatara admits internally that he saw it coming because they hadnt fought for a long time and chinatsu had been going along with everything he had asked of her without complaints. He even recalls pestering her at school. But since the training camp arc was rushed, chinatsu's character and her relationship with tatara suffered.

The 2nd half was my favorite part of the story but the anime's pacing (rushing and omitting details) really hurt this arc and the new characters. They should have just kept it one cour.

lol I can't with this anime though xD your body doesn't go haywire with a mind of its own just because someone stretched out your muscles HAHAHA. Silly.
I agree with Kugimiya though. This is still a dance competition. Fujita is playing too nicely :/ The moment he was like "I feel more at ease now that I see you here" I was like BISH. YOU JUST PUT OIL ON THE FLAME. He ain't there to calm ya damn nerves. That was kinda insulting lololol. Because Kugimiya's on a higher level and Fujita doesn't find him intimidating? Well shiet. Say no more. He boutta come for you now.

Not sure why people like the humor in this episode.. it's a huge contrast to the atmosphere before this, it's like they're making the rivalry between Chinatsu and Akira a joke. A flashback known to the viewers shouldn't have been known to the characters themselves. Akira may have been thinking of the past and have been watching Chinatsu dance carefully in that round, but there's nothing to suggest that Chinatsu should and would cheer Akira on, as if she knew we just had this flashback to their past.

The resolution is not satisfying at all. Quickly after that, it turned into a joke rivalry -.-;

Akira's transformation into her jealous ugly side was not well done at all, Chinatsu basically just stopped treating her as a friend and Akira started acting bitchy towards Chinatsu. It's like they were never friends to begin with, if they flipped just like that without understanding why.

Episode like this being well received is where I start questioning whether people care if the story make sense or not.

edit: glad to see post #43 is seeing the issue with this show as well.

reading the manga vs anime discussion is also intriguing. This anime just doesn't feel like it's great at all. It's got its own moment of glory but overall pretty weak

It's sad that Akira thinks that dance is her only connection to Chi. Why can't you just be friends who hang out outside of dance? Things would be less complicated and painful if you just talked to Chi...... but that's not how romance and drama works in stories.

LOL the fanservice in this one is heavy XD Hyodo in a towel stretching out Tatara was so funny

Tatara is starting to think like a competitor instead of a average dancer. It's obvious he's not used to this way of thinking and thinks it's bad, but that shows how into he is. The one mark they didn't get bugged him because, from every dancer that I've known, perfection is your goal for every dance. His annoyance at the lovey dovey couple and ill wishes for them in the competition I think is a natural thought for a serious competitor.
But when he meets Kugimiya outside, you can clearly see the difference between them. Kugimiya is an arrogant and very serious competitor while Tatara is just starting to feel like a competitor. I'm glad they showed this contrast.

I've had that feeling of being very loose before competing at a sport and it's great, once you get used to it. Hopefully, Tatara can get control in time!
