That was awesome! Another reason for liking Sakurai. Best arc IMO. Less complex, yes, but I find the characters in this one the most appealing. The animation was simply great. Just one thing I'm wondering... was the demon the cat or the woman? Or was it the cat that was possessed by the woman?

Great arc - 8/10
Overall - 7/10

Now off to watch Mononoke XD

Wow that was pretty intense.
I hated the first arc intensely, but the others arc were good.

Get a 6/10 because of the first arc but if it wasn't for it, it would get a 7.

This episode, or the entire arc, was simply amazing.

Learning about the Makoto and Kotowari in this episode almost made me cry...

Best arc for sure.
First arc was... Well, it represented well the original history about Oiwa, and the art was fantastic. Quite fast and too dramatic, but a nice-disturbing history. 7/10
Second arc... Art was fine, nothing great, but nothing bad. The love story was quite touching and "realistic" (not some stupid romance like twilight). HooHiraiBunny-chan said it all on the tread of the 4th episode of this arc. 8/10
Last arc... breath taking. I found it much more complex than the other... I don't get the reason why I don't have the same opnion as everybody else =O... Well...
Art: fantastic, different, extasy-making xD. Story: disturbing, great, touching, revolting. And it had humour... Ha... If I could, I gave it 11/10 or more, but... 10/10. Well... It has so much more to be said about this story...

Overall: 9/10 (because of the last arc).

It really was a tragic story behind the grudge so the fall of that house was inevitable, I suppose. A good finale for an amazing arc!

God damn, this last arc rocked hard. I couldn't possibly understand why anyone could possibly prefer the other two arcs over this one, but you know how it is: different people equals different opinions.

In any case, I found the storytelling in this episode especially to be absolutely fantastic. It was, I don't know, artistic and beautiful. I mean they even made the people getting splattered on the freaking wall beautiful in a horrific kind of way. And, the Medicine Seller is a very intriguing character. I want to know who, or what, he is.

But, yeah, the other arcs just didn't work to well for me so...the highest I can give this is a 6 with the Bakeneko arc getting a 8.

This arc was amazing! It was because of Kusuriuri I started watching this and I finally got it.
The only arc I didn't like was the second, it was boring and I absolutely hated the art.
Well I'm glad I watched this, it was good:)

Man, thats what I call an ending. This story was so much better in plot and execution, not to mention the subtle humour. Creepy demon and surprisingly touching last episode. Good stuff.

I'm in awe after this last ark. The truth is quite harsh and tragic though unfortunately there are cases in reality where women are held captive and get bereaved of their freedom to serve as sex slaves for their jailor.

An excellent finale that provided a conclusion that was both satisfying and tragic. The other arcs had their own share of tragedy but this is the first one to be emotionally effective. Also, that sword unsheathing scene was amazing - the art was even more impressive there than the norm.

Overall, the first two arcs had some decent premises that did not turn out well due to mediocre execution and some pretty poor animation as well. This last arc was miles ahead of the others in both the storytelling and art department. So, I would give the first two arcs 5/10 and this last one a 9/10 - which, using weighted averages, ends up being about a 6/10 for the whole series.

I seem to be the only one who thinks that third arc was just boring. Other arcs captivated me, made me immediately start watching next episode after finishing one. At the beginning of third arc I really needed to force myself to continue watching. Last episode was enjoyable though, but one interesting episode out of three just isn't enough.

The 1st story was good and hooked me and i wanted the next 2 stories to be as good.

Then 2nd story was even better, one of the best love stories i've encountered...

And then there is 3rd story which was WONDERFULLY EXCELLENT... it's a creepy, cruel story... medicine seller and servant girl aside none of the characters are likable but it hooked me nonetheless. After the prolonge and development, we learn the story of a girl named Tamaki and my hearth shettered for her. Her fate is so awful... What happened to her is inhuman...

Also, this show uses differant art stiles for each story and i have to mention Art of 3rd story is magnificient. It reminded me of The Conte of Monte Cristo (not as much as flashy of course) Especially the scenery on the walls took my breath away. (while i was creeped out by the story)

Damn that was pretty epic, the tragic back story combined with the action sure made up for the other arcs! It's amazing to know this chapter has it's own series! So lets see what that has to offer, but damn if it is amazing like this I'm sure it will be a great watch!

Quite an interesting series, it was better than my first impression of the series when I read the synopsis, well they sure made it worth watching this!

I liked the 1st arc the most,I also found it to be the most interesting 7/10
The 2nd arc was terrible. It was basically a cheesy love story 3/10
The 3rd arc,I thought it was okay.I liked the tragic story and the art was better than the other two but other than that,I didn't really find the story to be that interesting. It was also a little boring and slow at times (even though it has the least amount of episodes) .This one didn't really keep my attention but the conclusion was good,6/10.

Was a bit hard to follow after they went down the secret passage people began yelling things offscreen in the 2nd ep, up until the final explanation, which was good.

Maybe just 'cause I find it hard to focus on the details in Mononoke's art style (in streams, it comes out pretty blurry).

The conclusion was strong but I might have to say I preferred the Forgotten Gods story overall, idk. I'm familiar with Kusuriuri already too. This had vastly superior artwork of the three though.

If someone was to ask me if Ayakashi JCH was good, I'd tell them to watch episode 9 to 11. Maybe I should have just went straight to Mononoke.

6/10.

I'm not entirely sure here, either, and I don't think it was made completely clear. The woman was obviously very obsessed with the cat. It could have been her obsession that saw to it that her demonic form would be a Bake Neko (should be monster-cat or cat-monster) when she turned into a demon. My other theory is that her derived soul transitioned into the cat as the cat was her only resolve. A hint that may point towards the second theory is that she sent the cat away at some point, which may have been the time where she possessed the cat, unconciously, to return later to seek revenge.

The second and the third arc are the best imo. (sakurai was v good)

the third arc's gritty history was shocking. it went from someone practising his sword to this disturbing truth. i wanted the household dead except for kayo and the chin dude and kusuriui ofc. speaking of which, kusuriui's transformation after opening the sword + fight scene was great.

to those who are wondering, i think the bakeneko was the woman's cat who got free. because just before the cat escapes, it scratches that guy so surely it is the one holding the grudge for the woman who cared for her?

I could've sworn that the anime got the 7.6 rating from the 3rd arc alone since it looked pretty lackluster except for the aforementioned arc. It's not like I didn't like it coz I enjoyed the 2nd arc too but it's somehow obvious.

So it seems that almost everyone in the house was in kahoots for killing the sacrificial maiden and letting the cat hold her grudge. Tragic... and no wonder it went in shambles~

When he unsheathed that sword, it became a god-tier party out there ♥

The first and this arc were my favorite, the second arc was vague for me. I dont blame this Bake Neko for holding a grudge considering the way they treated her, if i was her i would go crazy too and kill every culprit. The Oiwa first story scared me a bit especially in the finale of it where they said anyone who was involved in the running of her story was cursed. The second one can eat shit.

The harmed innocents are freed, and the guilty is reminded of his wicked deeds. Really made me think actually on how crimes could be handled.

Great show overall. This third arc was the best. The other two were dry but good too.

Oh my God, the kitten at the beginning was so cute and heart melting, I just couldn't resist I want a tiny and cute kitten to pet just like that one.
That was totally chaotic, everybody started chocking each other and cursing them to hell, goes to show how people unleash their true selves on moments of panic.
That backstory though, it was devastating, and I had just said I was not expecting any heavy emotional references, I couldn't be wronger. She starved herself and took in all of that beating for that cat alone, what a pure soul, she didn't deserve any of that, that terrible piece of rotten soul is the one to call a monster here, I wish I could clear my saliva on his nasty face if I could.
That fighting scene as well, especially for 2006, what amazing cinematography that surpasses most shows of today. Add to that that conclusion, among the three stories this one definitely takes the win by miles.

I watched Mononoke before this so I might be a little biased towards the final arc but I genuinely believe it was the best among them all. I'm not sure what happened behind the scenes because the transition of art styles was very drastic. The 3rd arc felt too detached from the rest of the series and was just better executed.

1st arc was okay

2nd arc was kinda meh

3rd arc saved it enough for me to give it a 7

Popularity of last arc is one of the reasons why modern "pew-pew" anime is so primitive and lacks everything but count of worthless episodes. Not a fan of old folklore since it's really slow but at least it's pretty deep when quirky and hysterical imitation of pseudo-folkolre stories easily pierced the bottom. That full of himself MC with elf ears totally not helping to rehabilitate circus tier characters, modern shounen effects and drug art style.
