The original was one of my personal favorites, but this remake is quite something. Unlike anything else, it kept me speechless. It's perfect, I myself is charmed right now by how more beautiful and manly Iason is. His eyes, oh god ♥

First off I'm so happy this is finally getting a high definition (hopefully) 13 episode version! If there is one show that deserves it it is this one.

I have to say I was impressed with the animation quality and the backgrounds and characters. They were all just as I had imagined while reading the novels. I enjoyed finally getting to see Mimea and her time with Riki as well. It felt a little fast paced but since I don't speak Chinese or Japanese I'm sure they were explaining the events so the audience would understand. Kentarou Itou (the voice of Rikki) did a wonderful job capturing his wild and fierce nature. Toru Ohkawa did an okay job as Iason but I still couldn't help missing Kaneto Shiozawa's smooth and sexy voice from the original version. The opening and ending themes were very impressive and you can tell they want this to be an epic piece of animation when it's over. Great job animators! The animators also did a good job imitating the non-linear story telling that Ai No Kusabi is known for. What kind of disappointed me was the lack of sex scenes. (I'm a pervert I know) There was some good teasing and eye candy touching but never all the way. I understand that they are planning on stretching this out for 13 episodes and may not want to get into everything right away but at the same time I feel they should have given us at least one love scene with Iason and Rikki to get people fire up about ordering more. Aside from that everything was perfect so far in my opinion. I look forward to watching more of this and witnessing this beautiful tale unfold properly.

I'm not sure if this will be running as 13 episodes as planned before, 4 volumes have been decided so far.

It was great! I made an account just for this lol. The only thing with the remake is Kaneto Shiozawa was a better Iason voice in the old OVAs. I think new Iason's voice is a little wooden (don't shoot me :x).

Post based on Aarinfantasy's eng sub version. One down, 13 (hopefully) to go. *crosses-fingers*

Was glad to see RihannonL get recognition in the "special thanks" of the opening credits, poor girl worked her ass off providing us with up-to-date information. Also, does anyone know what the creature shown in the opening is? Is it Jupiter? Or is it the aquatic pet that scares Riki at the pet auction scene when Iason finally abducts him and makes him his pet?

Production value and animation is state-of-the-art = phenomenal! Gorgeous character design. Amazing set design. I like Iason's new seiyuu, so no complaints, however, so far I don't care for Raoul's. Aisha's seiyuu sounds amazing...good voice for a Blondie Elite of the Syndicate.

I really don't know what else to say other than 4 ova's at 22-minutes each will NOT cover the entire novel. We need all 13 initially promised to us.

My 1st thought was Jupiter. They are using impressive CG, btw.

I have a feeling they are only remaking the original OVA so 4 volumes are enough after I did some calculations. Maybe they 1st wanted to cover the entire novel with their 13 episodes plan, but they clearly are following the events flow of the original OVA. I hope that I'm not disappointing anyone, but this is what I'm predicting and how I felt after I saw the 1st episode of this remake.

Shiozawa Kaneto-sama's substitute is quite decent, I was surpised actually. Riki's part impressed me much less.
I think the best thing it's they somehow scored to maintain that special feeling of, you know, 'oldiness'.

I gotta correct you there Shadow-chan. (IMO) The remake of AnK is clearly nothing like the original OVA. If you've read the novels, you would know that Iason and Riki did not met like they did in the original. There was no car jacking. The first episode is Riki getting punished for sleeping with Mimea, we never saw that in the original. The opening of the remake was the opening of the novel, and the new thing we get to see is Iason setting Riki free instead of a 3 second flash back like we did in the first OVA. All four previews of the episodes we'll get to see, they cover the novels and have nothing of the original in them.

I was so bored today, so I negligently visited some anime forum with Ai no Kusabi topic...and nearly fell off my chair with a total nosebleed, screaming "OHMYGODTHEY'VEMADEIT!". Then I quickly registered at aarinfantasy. Few minutes later the first ova was on my computer.

Well... sadly I have to admit that somehow I like the old version better (I totally love it, despite all its imperfection) and I miss that dark, muggy atmosphere (+ Iason's voice)- it's completely different in the new version and perhaps it just the matter whether I'll get used to it or not. The music is so beautiful (I'm even listening to the soundtrack at the moment- lovely *_*) buuuut at some points it doesn't fit the story for me. However I like the opening very much, it's one of the nicest I've seen last time. I look forward to see the new, pimped up Katze :D So let's wait and see what the second ova will bring...

I pretty know the original had missed important parts from the novel, but 1st episode of the remake as I can recall remade some exact scenes from the original that's why I felt they are really taking the original in mind. I guess that's what a remake should be all about.

That's aside, I read from Wikipedia (第1部全4巻として2012年1月から順次発売される。) so I think the 4 volumes might be the 1st part of the whole story. Who knows this might be really running as 13 episodes!

Humm... Which parts are you talking about? The original started out as Riki being saved by Iason. It goes on to Riki taking Iason to a hotel and then of Riki being in Eos as a pet, then Iason watching Riki walk away after he releases him to go back to Ceres.

(IMO) The first ep of the remake hasnt come close to what was in the original, and maybe thats where my confusion is coming from. Maybe when Iason was watching Riki run back to Ceres? Thats the only thing that's the same (kinda the same since Riki in the original walked, and the Riki in the remake ran) Everything else in the first OVA of the original hasnt happen yet, not in the 1st ep of the remake.

The 13 eps cover all the novels, but the main focus (from what's been said) is the time Riki was with Iason for those three years as a pet. I guess we'll have to just wait and see from the four eps they'll only be airing, on how much the remake and the original compare, because as of right now, I dont see it.

And Wikipedia isnt the best place to get info about AnK. Trust me. I'm more than a little obsessed about the anime ;q

Hm. Maybe I'm wrong about the parts. I guess watching the previews from the remake earlier made me confused. I thought the gate scene when it was opened for Riki then he tried to escape I thought I've seen that before! Still I really want them to make use of the original in a good way when remaking some scenes if possible.

Well I personally pretty much trust Wikipedia myself especially when it comes to Japanese Wiki. I also read in the Q&A section of the OVA official site (http://www.ainokusabi.jp/qanda.html) something about the 1st part of the story. I can't confirm, they planned 4 volumes as the 1st part of the story or not.

Nah. They gate/ escape scene was never in the original. In fact there were no real scenes of Riki as a pet in Eos. In the original there were only short flash backs.

Oh, Wikipedia is awesome, but it hasnt been updated and some of the facts are wrong. Like "They travel to the satellite pleasure city of Midas, which has an independent slum area called Ceres". Midas and Ceres are separate places.

As for that site (Translated by my hubby) he says that the 4 episodes are going off of the novels. Not the first 4 novels. (Then again I dont know how much trust to put in his words since I forced a straight man to translate something about boys love ;p) But because of how the novels are written, and how the remake is, we cant tell what we'll be seeing.

They finally making Ai no Kusabi after so much time certainly made my year. I had already lost all hope!
And the first ova came out so perfect T-T
Riki's movements and expressions are so full of emotions! He is such an intense character and so full of proud, I'm delighted this ovas portrayed him so perfectly.
It's only a shame they didn't keep going back and forth in time like the first novels, but maybe it's for the better, it's easier to understand.
I hope this ovas can explain well the politcal system and prejudices behind Ai no Kusabi's world, 'cause it will be quite hard without the writing.
Ohhh this year will be wonderful with Ai no Kusabi ovas and last books releases!!

Finally decided to check-in with MAL, and seeing the Episode Topics for Ai no Kusabi are singly responsible for making my shitty week full of epic~

First of all, loving the animation; just as pretty as I remember from the leaked preview a while back. I've never had the opportunity to read the manga, so I'm happy to see more emphasis of Iason and Riki's interaction. Can't wait for the next installments. c:

I love the Sci-Fi aspect of it all and that is was I usually watch or fantasy but dang this episode was amazing. I recommend 100%. Just don't watch with little kids... to much adult stuff going on.
