Did somehow.. someway, someone couldn’t write the script correctly here as well, like whatever the fuck happened with this stage play? I mean these intros and everything should’ve been there in the first episode itself lol. I actually found it weird last episode when there was nothing leading up to these characters rehearsing, of all things, whilst introducing a bunch of characters with colourful fonts.

Anyway, being passionate about your work is one thing, but being so and moreover insulting others when they don’t match your work ethic is straight up stupid. This author is one such person, but hey, since this an anime of course people would accept her demands for a complete redo of the script lol. That in any case whatsoever doesn’t happen with projects in real life. There is a lot of capital invested, a lot of time invested… nobody could just come and ask for a complete makeover of the script when the thing is already underway. Felt for that scriptwriter tbh. Also, this one thing is straight up impossible when we’re talking about things getting produced in japan… see THEIR HISTORIES WITH LIVE ACTION ADAPTATIONS LOL. If the mangaka had so much say, the landscape would be different altogether. But hey again, this one mangaka isn’t normal by any means, so yeah lol… she was even willing to pay xD

Abiko's social problems and anxiety isn't uncommon in their industry. At the same time, she also seems to have an aura of arrogance in her attitude. Would be interesting how they plan out more for her character.

I thought the overall emotions and expressions this episode to be fairly entertaining. Sumiaki Raida might also be someone to keep on since he's producing the play for Tokyo Blade's adaptation. More of a buildup episode but imo an interesting one to showcase more character personalities, especially Abiko.

She(Abiko) went from being a gloomy sensei to suddenly being a strict sensei!! in no time and that's Scary! 😨.
Akio sensei she definitely crossed the line with that insult. I kinda feel sad for the scriptwriter, he did his best with everything he could've but in the end that's the Reality Author has the authority to revoke the permission ultimately destroying the reputation of everyone involved in the project/work..
Stage industry=Hardship Industry.
Akane-Chan in the end 💘 😍 Let's Goo on a date with her.

Looking forward to watching the next episode.

It's crunch time for this play.

The entire stage play project soon faces the threat of cancellation due to a conflict between the original author and the play's writer. In response, Sumiaki, the lead producer, along with many other higher-ups, work tirelessly to prepare a revised script on time. Abiko, the mangaka, is very demanding and rejects numerous revisions outright, disliking them so much that she doesn't want Goa, the scriptwriter, to be involved in the play any longer.

Looks like they didn't forget to adapt the beginning of the arc, they just saved it for this episode. Weird choice but okay. Glad we still got Akibo's iconic double brushing scene. Lmaoooo. Akibo did NOT hold back at all. Her aura started coming out and everything lol. She fr said "You have NO talent as a writer"... LMAOOOO. But yeah, I can see why people hate Akibo, I get she's young by anime standards, but she has to understand, it's a stage play. It can't be 1-1 completely the same as the manga. Really felt bad for Goa near the end.

Kanabro's in shambles right now. Me inculded.

Peak Wednesday is back!

Abiko-sensei is really cute, I like Abiko-sensei's dual-wielding toothbrush, lmao.
Abiko-sensei's "everything" gave me goosebumps. Literal nightmare for scriptwriters, I feel bad for Goa. The scriptwriter had good intentions but got screwed over because he had to work with limited information from Abiko-sensei. Then again, the mangaka is quite passionate about her work, so I can see where she's coming from. A more direct line of communication could have prevented this.

Seriously, all scriptwriters are not as based as Goa. Some can be BS and pressure the original author to cancel the project, which can be detrimental for authors with average popularity trying to promote their work. These producers may prioritize making money over honoring the author's vision, often making excuses and being lazy when asked to revise. While there are dedicated individuals like Goa in this chapter, there's only a minority of them in the industry. We need many scriptwriters like Goa IRL.

The opening tho, honestly, is a great song. The theme really suits the upcoming events. Tatsuya Kitani always delivers bangers, and he has literally partnered with a real idol this time, Kento Nakajima.
GEMN, this duo is going to be peak, for real.

Bruh, I just noticed, It's the 4th time where a character falls from the sky in an opening by Tatsuya Kitani, it's a trademark at this point.
The little details here and there in the opening are very clever.

They're adapting this arc so great.
This season is gonna open my old wound, I can already feel it.
I can't wait for more, thanks for the meal.

This was a pretty dry and slow, albeit informative episode about the industry of adaptations given how various of shows alter content, cut content or change characters to be able to fit a medium more effectively, or fit a director's vision better or purely for the sake of runtime given how much the Tokyo Blade has to adapt in the span of a couple hours. It's an issue I find very often with watching anime adaptations of light novels, games and visual novels where content is far more dense and a lot of character interactions and monologues for runtime and to fit the medium better since adapting every single monologue can be very time-consuming and slows the pace down unnaturally there. In Oshi no Ko's case here, the focus is on a live-action stage play which has an even shorter runtime and as indicated with Akane's character, changes have to be made and simplified and portions of the story might have to be left out to focus on the core story that can be reasonably adapted and give the key characters more to work with. From the positions of authors and creators of the source material, it can be annoying seeing adaptations conceptualized by someone else and having information passed from the author through various other people to the scriptwriter to form something that goes against what the author envisioned that the adaptation would be like. In this case for Abiko-sensei, it's most affected by the characters as hinted with Akane's reaction and conversation about her character being overly simplified and sacrificed the previous week.

I get why the episode here had the flashback with how the people got together for the project since this was a fairly slow and dry episode to get through, pretty boring for a decent chunk of it besides that informative theme layered throughout pretty heavy-handedly. The first episode was also dry but had a bit more going for it visually in comparison compared to this. The play's in chaos with the dissatisfaction of the original creator and with the limited amount of time left, the team's got to magically find a way to create a play that satisfies her so that it can go on without further controversy that can be damaging for the director and company's reputation if unable to pull this off after the amount of time and money spent on this.

This had some relevant themes going on from the previous episode but this was one of the most forgettable episodes of Oshi no Ko in the grand scheme of things individually. There is more to come and this is just setup to build to that but as a start, this season's off to a slog of a start. There is more room for potential with next week as Aqua and Akane go out together to watch a 2.5D stage play together and Akane hoping for Aqua to enjoy the potential that this kind of theatre can offer compared to your average, regular plays.

The scriptwriter should've just contacted and communicated with the author directly instead of going through all of those middlemen. Surprised they hadn't even talked to each other before the process began.

More insight into the aspects of entertainment production. Mainly, scriptwriting and the difficulties of adaptation.
Once again drawing nice real world parallel.

Feel bad for Gao the script writer but they do need the authors permission to do the stage play. The anger of the author here is probably super relatable for many Authors who get shitty adaptations etc. While the author is obviously causing a lot of trouble for the production I would prefer delays over an adaption the author hates so I honestly hope seeing this causes more authors and creators to be more involved with the adaptations of their work even if it causes trouble for everyone.

The script writers and the author definitely need a more direct line of communication because of course nothing goes right if they have to go through this many middle men.

Anyways date time for Akane and Aqua so he can see how interesting theater can be.

Abiko may seem unreasonable with her anger but from her POV, proposing revision after revision just to keep getting back drafts of the script that seemingly ignore her suggestions had to cause her anger to boil over at some point. As others have mentioned, there needs to be a more direct line of communication between the author and the scriptwriter so the author’s message doesn’t get lost in translation among all of these middlemen. I felt pretty sorry for GOA since he certainly tried his best. Abiko is pretty crazy to want to rewrite the script herself while also serializing a weekly manga 💀 but hey, at this point you can’t say no to her.

Also the OP has really grown on me and even the ED has a little bit.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

It's so sad that this is a misunderstanding that got out of hand.
The lack of communication is about to kill this project and there is not much that can be done about it.
The original creator was not satisfyied with the script but had too little influence on it, while the scriptwriter did his best to adapt her source material to a stage play, which, as Akane points out, is a very difficult task, considering how different the mediums of manga and theater are.
The only way I can see this play ending up is either with a rushed script or underpracticed actors.

What a predicament our characters have found themselves in again...

(I say as Akane tells Aqua to go on a date because they now have some free time.
Not that there is anything they can do about it)

Man what a mess this play is turning out to be and the way it's shown here is great. I recall within the past year reading about a manga artist killing herself after having disagreements with the script that was made for a tv broadcast version of her work which also reminds me of an episode in season 1 about suicide that also had a real-life implication.

Anyway, I hope the issues here get resolved and the actors and actresses get to shine, and that Aqua finds more clues with his mission (also need more Ruby).

This episode is full of controversy between the author and the media adaptation team, of course, there will be changes in the script based on the adaptation from manga/novel to match the time frame of the respective media. This is not the first, we have seen this in the Sweet Today drama, they changed the story pacing to just 6 episodes with poor acting from the cast.

I actually feel bad for the scriptwriters, who are doing their best for their respective media and not getting enough credits.

But going so far as to humiliate the scriptwriter in front of the casts and the team is not acceptable.

If you have problems with the work try to solve the problem with the concerned person or team, I mean what's with the attitude of "let me write the entire script" and "I don't need payment. You can leave the scriptwriter's credit and pay him as usual"

Are authors can even say stuff like this? I am confused.

so Abiko-Sensei was really angry about the script and ordered the whole thing to be rewritten? I feel bad for GOA because he tried his best.

Kana looks a bit annoyed with Akane and Aqua, yes, I understand Kana, I do too, and seeing Akane pout is really cringe lmao.

so we have to wait to see how Abiko will rewrite all this, hopefully it will be better in the future, and it looks like Akane and Aqua went on a date to the theater too, curious what will happen in the next episode.

What a mess this stage play is turning out to be, with Abiko-sensei really pushing for revisions. I'm not sure if the original author usually has as much authority as Abiko did here in media production, but nonetheless, it turned out to be a tough go for the scriptwriter, who was shunned by Abiko and tossed out of the staff, despite his name still remaining on the project. I kind of felt for him, because honestly, his script might end up being better than Abiko's script in terms of how the material would translate to a stage play format. In the end, the "game of telephone" as the show called it, is really what hurt things here.

As for the flashback in the first half of the episode, at first, I wasn't a fan of it, having read the manga chapters that were covered in last week's episode, but seeing how the rest of the episode played out today, I can see why they did that, to lighten the mood up a bit before it got all educational with how adaptations work. All in all, it showed a depiction of how difficult the entertainment industry can be to work in.

Now, Aqua and Akane will go to watch a play together. Kana fans are in shambles, myself included.

It talks and denounce a lot of things about the industry of manga and their adaptations in an emotional way , we really feel bad for the playwright because Abiko just act like a little girl who don't know that her words can have consequences even Aqua (the i don't give a fuck boy) say that she's immature

I feel so bad for Goa unlike many script writer he had good intention followed the source material and was passionate. He still was chewed apart he deserves better.
"When adaptation turn out bad script writers become war criminal"
"When the adaptation turns out good og work is credited"

Abiko sensei does have a point about messing with og work the completely 180ed Akane's Sayani Hime character but showing this much disrespect was uncalled for.
The "Game of telephone" ruined everything as for theme of the anime showing how problematic the entire industry is.

They did a continuous episode of showing the actors the play in first one made the story more continuous. Doing the intro stuffs in second episode made the flow better. Made the first episode better, although that's why this episode maybe slightly inferior.

Akane and Aqua will have theatre date next episode. I am for Kana but still looking forward to their interactions they are so contrasting makes cute together.

I can’t get over how beautiful the OP visuals are man one of the most beautiful openings ever. Song is growing on me a lot.

Everyone thinks that having the author involved in an adaptation is a good thing, but this arc is showing it’s not a given. Abiko sensei is making life a living hell for everyone involved in this production and frankly acting like a child. When you adapt things from a book to a live action medium, a lot has to change. It’s inevitable. The important thing is that the spirit of the story remains. I’m totally ok with minor revisions to dialogues, changing a few scenes etc, but telling the staff not once, not twice but multiple times to rip up what they’ve written and start over is so inconsiderate and she’s not even thinking

Like we’re a few days from rehearsals needing to begin and the scriptwriter is having to rewrite yet again AND getting blamed for it because of the author lol. He’s a much better man than I and most, because she would’ve got cursed out. And this could leave a stain on his record as if he weren’t prepared properly. He’s a good dude. Entertainment industry can be brutal.

That aside, lot of good Kana moments in the early part of the episode, seems like she got even cuter 😭 “this is the real me” yes and we love it!

Akane’s dialogue leading into the ED playing was perfection! Love her voice so much.. really can’t choose between the two lol. The ED is also growing on me a lot, still don’t like it as much as mephisto but it’s definitely going in the weekly rotation.

An interesting aspect of the industry that I've never really thought of. Even with mangakas usually being socially inept or just acting "weird", this author Abiko seems like an extreme version of this.

I could be wrong, but her inability to articulate her problems with it led to an issue where no one wins and she fails to realize her part in this. Talk about being cutthroat. That scriptwriter did NOT deserve that!

Using 2 toothbrushes to "clean your teeth faster" is just trying to drive that "weird" aspect home. Talk about being built different!

Personally, huge fan of the reordering of events to fit the nature of tv more, you want your ep 1 to go off with a bang, rather than the setup which was what half ep 2 is

I can relate to both Abiko and GOA
You don't want your characters to be completely different characters that only share the same appearances with the original. But also Abiko is very much unaware of all the intricacies of adapting it into a stageplay and the whole gravity of the big project.

Also, live action movies and stage plays are quite different, a lot of the movies seem very budget constrained and not true to life, whilst also hoping it does well enough to cast better, more well-known actors if it ever gets a sequel

The stage plays? So far, the ones I've seen looks great (Bocchi the Rock, Chainsaw Man, Haikyu)

As the original creator, Abiko has all the reasons to dislike adaptations of her work. But the way she went about it is insane. There are only 20 days left until the premiere and she's demanding a rewrite now?! Well, tbf it's not entirely her fault as all the intermediaries let her down... I think if she could've, she would've said all this directly to the scriptwriter in the first place. But I guess she didn't deem it necessary until she got mad enough to ignore her social skills and confront the writers herself...

I feel so bad about the scriptwriter. He was a legit fan of the manga and tried to do his best with what he had... And then, the creator of his favorite work came in and called him trash who doesn't even understand her characters... I'd be devastated. It would've been one thing if he wasn't a fan and didn't read the series before taking on this project. But that's not the case.

The original creator willing to write the script of the adaptation themself is just crazy and is almost always a bad idea. Just because they have the talent for one medium doesn't necessarily mean they also have the same gift for others. And besides, this is a stage play. So, I think major rewrites would affect the whole thing way more. I think most mangakas and original creators just trust the producers and let them do what they want. Sometimes it results in disasters but I think it turns out fine most of the time.

I'm in the same boat as Aqua when it comes to stage plays. Never watched any because I don't see the appeal. But with how this anime is hyping them up I might watch one if I ever go to Japan.

Looking forward to Aqua and Akane's date!

Waited for this sequel sadly it has nothing to do with it, it's pacing and problems are not linked to the main story. It has been two episodes and it's not about Oshi no Ko at all.
We didn't even see some of the main characters so far and those who we saw were just standing like idiots. I don't like pacing, problems and plot of the sequel so far. Where are priorities ? Some writer got mad over a script so what it has to do with main story ? Same happened in S1 but it tool very few time (Sweet today) but in S2 they already showed 2 episodes with no action. In S1 they also told us how industry works but it was well paced. In S2 all we got is that script is bad because it changes a lot and hands, we got it, so whats next ? Also i didn't like opening at all, animation is much crappier and it's like nothing happening at all.

Damn thats one strong contrast in character. I guess its a good thing to feel so strongly for your work and have the backbone to defend it instead of doing whatever the company behind it wants. But yeah social skills.. poor GOA. She will find out soon enough scriptwriting theater is not easy.

I think atleast she should have talked with him directly and not berated him in front of everyone only to talk with the producer and her editor again.

Also lol at how slimy they portrayed editors here lmao

To that end each performance beeing unique is contrary to what I need. A movie will be the same for everyone, all the time, even decades later. I can go back to watch something made before I was even born and in a sense feel connected to those people and fans who watched it.
Theater.. I share the room with a few hundred people I will never talk to again. And someone having seen a different performance doesnt matter to me.

Is it me or are the first two episodes lacking something? I know it is still a bit early to judge things, but I feel like the show lost a bit of its identity. I really like Oshi no Ko and I hope that the next episodes will bring back the tension and the amazing character developments.
@vicen Well for one Ruby was not in this ep at all and even Aqua had like 10 lines. It feels more like a story about the scriptwriter and the mangaka, then about Aqua and Ruby as Ais kids.

To that end Im massively looking forward to the date next episode

So damn good! I wanted to hear how the Mangaka hates the script and so on with real voices.

I hope the scriptwriter will get another chance to rewrite the script, this was really devastating, too harsh and unnecessarily rude, especially considering how much he actually cares about the original work.

really good look into the production side of theatre, feel bad for the scriptwriter, and i can't wait to see the play those two went to see.

Dang, the author just blew up at the scriptwriter's face and disregarded all of his hard work. The author needs to realize that some changes are inevitable when it comes to adapting a source material across mediums. But character changes are indeed one of the biggest pet peeves I have when it comes to manga to anime adaptations, so I could understand her anger. Just the way the author went about things was very unprofessional.

I appreciate that this episode gave some insight on how the script is put together in a stage play. But I gotta say, the way the communication between the original creator and a scriptwriter is described as being akin to a game of telephone struck a cord in me. I could totally relate to that in my line of work, the way upper management gives orders to staff but some of the instructions get lost in between makes me want to tear my hair out.

Whew, anyways good episode. Always love learning more about these kinds of things and I'm way more invested in this stage play storyline than the revenge or idol storyline. Ah and now I'm reminded of Act Age...RIP.

Looking forward to the Akane and Aqua date next episode!!
