Interesting, there's more storytelling about Tsukishima this season and his past. It highlights the harshness and reality of his life but also the same time, I find it rather realistic.

I also find this episode rather important considering his connection with Tsurumi.

One of my favorite bits from the manga, masterfully adapted here. Top voice acting job too.

I do love a good tale from the past to illuminate the present. Here we learn about how Tsurumi has been playing Tsukishima like a fiddle for quite some time. Tsukishima backstory is super brutal. Having a piece of shit murder father, the whole village hating Tsukishima over that for basically no reason. Having the girl Igogusa for some time but going off to war only for her to not be there when he returned. Of course this is where it gets muddied.

Igogusa whereabouts really come down to do we trust the crazy and wildly manipulative Tsurumi with the words he's spending to Tsukishima. Did Tsukishima father kill Igogusa like Tsurumi told the villagers or was she really whisked away to Tokyo by her parents like Tsurumi tells Tsukishima now. Its kinda left up in the air I think. Tsurumi reassures Tsukishima that she's alive in Tokyo at the end but there's that look Tsurumi has while saying it that makes me question whether or nor he's telling the truth. I mean now that Tsukishima has said he will devote his life to helping Tsurumi there's no reason for Tsurumi to really tell him the honest truth, but instead just tell him the convenient truth that will get Tsukishima to fall in line with Tsurumi plan of getting the Ainu gold.

Fascinating episode showing us how the two meet and what Tsukishima circumstances are, why he presses forward. Those words to Sugimoto at the beginning of the episode holding more weight now. Speaking of the beginning of the episode, Kiroranke telling Asirpa about her father and his origins up in Karafuto. How he was half Polish. How he felt abandoned by both Russia and Japan like the rest of the Ainu did. How he wanted to protect the Ainu after that.

There's gotta be more to this that Kiroranke isn't saying. At least he's keeping Ogata at bay about forcing the secret knowledge Wilk gave Asirpa out of her head. Have to see where that goes.

Another fantastic episode of Golden Kamuy. This season just keeps on delivering. I really loved the backstory of Tsukishima and Tsurumi.

Felt perfectly paced, even though I haven't read the manga. This is easly in my top 3 of this season and more people need to watch this. Seems like we'll get some Sugimoto stuff next week, can't wait!

I think yes, it's lie upon a lie upon a lie upon a lie, but the point of this episode is that in the end it doesn't matter anymore, Tsukishima serves Tsurumi because Tsurumi attempt to save him even if it's all lie. And Tsurumi is satisfied when he can recruit a loyal follower who'll obey him no matter what.

I think this is how extremist leader recruit extremist followers

Well, no op these time? The first part, i got a chance to see Kiroranke's group after their meal time in the previous episode. Well, more information about Karafuto situations on his past, kinda gave me a mix feeling. Historical lesson, the effect of the war, never had a good side on it. Its interesting to see that on his story, no portrait of him, kinda gave me a feeling that he might be lied about the real fact. Oh, well, poor Asirpa's not knewing the real of him. So, Kiroranke's as his usual style, revealed his plans on their journey into the depth of Ainu's village at Karafuto. Its looks like they might've searched up Asirpa's mother ruins place that somehow could be mature her. Well, Shiraishi, as his dumbass expression in background never missed a chance to made me laughed.

The second parts, Tsukishima backstory time, in a full duration of these episode. Surprised. Its even took such long time, that they didn't even had a chance to show the ED song themes. Full of madmen reactions always became the eccentricsm of this series. So, i don't mind that at all xD.

As expected, his subordinates really a typical of a madmen, like him. Everyone's background were completely filled with a black spots, full of a darkness that somehow became their motivation to be strength. The example for Tsukishima cases, as his life surely did not ended well enough to notice. His reason to life was solid. But, the fate reached him into another mad lad. Thats it, Lieutenant Tsurumi, at your service! Seriously, though, Tsurumi succeeded to persuade Tsukishima, with such a nice scheme he had, really a pleasant watch. As always, when he attended in a full length, right? I mean, look at that smile, and his effort to injured himself.

Nice setup, before something bad happened, i guess. Not gonna mentioned a little banter with Nikaidou, tho. Its kinda underwhelming, but the tone was okay. Then, Sugimoto had a less appearance here, like his previous appearance at Tanigaki and Ogatas's backstory. I found it pretty funny, and can't hide my smile watching that consistency....

That backstory though.. :o
Great emotional backstory about Hajime Tsukishima. Sugimoto was also present. I wonder what went on in Hajime's thoughts when he saw Sugimoto at the ice carts.

Lieutenant Tsurumi took a big risk by taking a guess Hajime wouldn't go after his wife in tokyo, or maybe Tsurumi is just that smart.
At least 9 years went by before Hajime found out the truth, oof..

That ending song suits perfectly

Those silver foxes looked cute. So this episode focuses on Tsukishima and his relationship with Tsurumi. It also explains Tsurumi's physical state after getting half of his face blown off and I'm surprised that he didn't die. I feel sorry for Tsukishima because he's been lied to by many people including Tsurumi and yet he's will to help him get the Ainu gold.

This was a stellar episode through and through.

It was really interesting to learn about Tsukishima's backstory and how tragic it was. Not just that, it also showcased how manipulative and cunning Tsurumi can be in order to make things go his way.

Whether if Igogusa was killed by Tsukishima's father or was alive and living well with her parents in Tokyo, we most likely will never know, which did surprise me, as I was expecting the flashback to confirm whether if she was dead or alive. Either way, it made for a compelling backstory and it does make this one of the best episodes of Golden Kamuy so far. =D

This is also another reason why I like Tsurumi as a character. He's a dirty bastard, but I can't help but enjoy his appearances in this story every time. ^_^

At the end of S2, Ogata shot both Asirpa's father and Sugimoto, Sugimoto survived due to the 7th Division and to get Asirpa from Kiro n Ogata back, he cooperates with the 7th rn cuz Asirpa wouldn't trust the 7th if only they went to get Asirpa from Kiroranke and Ogata's hands.

You know there is something that this anime isn't telling us about the real story of the Ainu whom were forced to transfer to Hokkaido was that Japan was also guilty of executing a lotta Ainu during the early 1900's.

insane episode, whenever the show gives us a wartime flashback it delivers, and it delivers in spades. tsurumi is such a terrifying character, he spends years and concocts meticulous schemes just to get the most devoted and trustworthy follower, a strong proponent of quality over quantity no doubt.
seeing sugimoto there as well, and vacating the sled with his buddy was heartbreaking and telling of the kind of guy he really is, and seeing that the title for next week contains his name and moniker can't help but make me get my hopes up for next week as well.
honestly, i wasn't really feeling the first two episodes of the season, they were fun but the combination of not really remembering all the plot threads and current situation and groups(i really need to rewatch the show), along with the stenka being amusing but not a highlight for me, kinda made me lose some hype, but this episode being one of the best in the series IMO definitely brought me back, can't wait for the rest of the season and to continue the series after that as well(going to the manga if i'll have to).

This episode was a punch to the gut... who knew Tsukishima had such a heart wrenching past?! After so much manipulation and so many lies Tsukishima and us as the audience, will never really know what happened to Igogusa or if she's dead or alive. Tsurumi is one of the most ethically and morally twisted characters yet there's a part of me that just can't hate him

It was also so sad to see the part where Sugimoto gave up saving his friend so that Tsukishima could be transported to the field hospital. Anything to do with his time in the army always breaks my heart!

Lt. Tsurumi is probably my favourite character of the series.

Even if everytrhing he said is a lie, and it probably is, he still saved Tsukishima's life. And even if he just did it to gain his loyalty, it's still a very badass move to be willing to do something like that for your plan.

This series keeps surprising me with how consistently good it is, and how they can make me care more for its characters with only half an episode of backstory than most series do in a whole season. Poor Tsukishima.

Igogusa is alive or dead? If Igogusa was dead, would Tsukishima desperately want to live and study German? The answer is no. Tsurumi wanted a puppet, went to the village, found the corpse and made the village find it. After many years, he told a soldier to tell Tsukishima the real story. Seeing that Tsukishima was still loyal and his puppet, even with the harsh truth, he decided to lie to increase Tsukishima's determination again, as it was possible that he would commit suicide and Tsurumi would lose his puppet.

I really don't know whether to believe Tsurumi's story that she's actually alive in Tokyo given the look he gave at the end and that solider peaking into the tent while they were talking. Fascinating backstory, this time focusing on Tsukishima, that helps us understand his loyalty to Tsurumi. What an unfortunately tragic story.

I like how we never really learn the truth about Igogusa's fate. I feel like that helps us as viewers relate more closely with Tsukishima. Is she actually still alive? Is she truly dead? At this point, that doesn't even matter anymore, which is most likely the mindset Tsukishima adopted as he decided to devote himself to Tsurumi. This show is so damn great.

Tsurumi is such a fascinating man, honestly. Being both manipulative and charismatic can be a really dangerous combination when it comes to people with such immense goals and poor Tsukishima ended up being another one of his "victims".
So in the end, it seems that Igogusa's fate will remain a mystery since it was already established that we, the viewers, can believe in Tsurumi only to a certain extent. Not that it matters anymore tho, Tsukishima has already found his resolve and will most likely remain by his Lieutenant's side until the day one of them dies.

Overall, it was another fantastic episode. I can easily say this series is at its best when it comes to handle backstories and Tsukishima's wasn't the exception here. While not the most charismatic of the cast, the episode still helped me see him in a different light and man, I really ended up feeling bad for the guy. Bad for him, for his past and for the way how he was played for nearly a decade. In this regard, Tsurumi is truly a bastard but despite that, I can't bring myself to hate him and that's simply another proof of just how well written his character is. Seriously, the man is just too complete for someone who is missing half of his brain lol

As always, looking forward to next episode.

We get to see Tsukishima showing more than just his usual strict and sometimes scary poker face. He's full of emotions with this backstory. Tsurumi starts weaving his threads.

It's indeed a great episode. We also get to see Asirpa's group at the start - dang, I missed Shiraishi's goofiness lol. I really love the narratives that this show presents. We get to hear about the displacement of indigenous tribes due to wars that they are essentially not a part of. Even Nikaidou's scene - it was hilarious to watch, but it's damn tragic when you realize how he's over-relying on drugs since the time he first lost his body parts (damn, I wonder, if he's still alive by the end of this series, how intact would his body be?). His mind is really regressing.

Ahhhhh, I really love this series. Looking forward to the next episode~

This is what I call good and effective writing, its exactly what alot of shows fail to do, to make us even care for side characters and to enhance the already established characters, we can see that with Sugimoto's part in the battle of Mukden, with honoring his friend's wish to save those more worthy of saving, and with Tsurumi, its also established that he was a spy. which is why he is very cunning and can easily sway the masses to his favor, and its even demonstrated with him lying to Tsukishima. I honestly love this episode, great work.
