THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Ooh, I like how this episode picked up the pace. There's also running involved and there's a good amount of anxiety between the competitors.

I think the episode made an impact on showcasing how characters react in stressful moments. No doubt competition makes people try to go beyond their limits. I just hope Kakeru is more careful of what's ahead of him. Bumping to Hanako like that is a bit careless.

Showing main guy was good in running and his teammates ignoring him.

Back to present. So that guy is one of those who ignored him.

Thinking about the painful life... oh, so he stole bread because he lost in pachinko.

He was invited by Miyu-Miyu's character and his manga kouhais for lunch.

When alone again, he's been thinking about what that guy said. He bumped into the girl.

Running w. someone (for the Ekiden marathon) vs. Running alone (because of trauma)

Eh, Miyu-Miyu's character improving?! lol @ using the words from manga to encourage him to run.

That guy looking down on the team, and otaku guy got the most angry. The senpai guy who wants to attend the marathon tries to show that everyone's of each own personality and they can still work together (? something like that).

More training next.

This episode sure has its impact.

Love the light psychological themes at the beginning of the episode, definitely showed more sides of Kakeru and his problems. Generally, This episode was very important for Kakeru's character as it showed a lot of his personality which I was really interesting with.

I don't like that Sasaki guy much, he reminds me of a certain someone. But he seems important for the storyline and we'll definitely see him again, they didn't introduced him for nothing, interested with what will become with him.

Great soundtrack as expected form this show, I really love this series so far so I am really glad I picked it up, looking forward to next week's.

The animation and direction in this episode was top notch, the way they did the flashback was innovative.

In a way, Sakaki got the whole team riled up so good on him for giving even the lawyer some motivation.

Now Prince giving this awesome speech was amazing, i was bracing myself and then he just collapsed, it was like his last words before his ''death'', i bet he learned that from all the manga he read.

''The ones not chosen'', well fuck, i don't want to see that if it implies what it does after seeing Prince shine in this episode.

Sakaki is such a jerk.

Kashiwazaki is suffering so much, lmao. And despite his time I'm still proud at him. The part where Haiji motivated him with some manga phrase was priceless. Also loved when he spoke up to Sakaki. Everyone is fired up now.

Great episode overall with some dope soundtrack.

i might be quick to judge but this anime is starting to become my favorite of this season by far. one of the few anime i look forward to each week now. This episode with kakeru's past was so great and prince's speech felt real.
10/10 loving this anime soooo much rn

Oh, Sakaki is very mean. We have more about Kurahara's backstory. It seems that he is very good at running for a long time. Did he beat Sakaki in the past?

I liked the moment when Haiji supported Kakeru.

Fantastic episode again, easily the best new show of fall if you ask me.

We finally got more of Kakeru's backstory, looks like he's always been good at running and it looks like the coach kinda gave him special treatment because he kept winning. I'm assuming that alienated him somehow, the scene where he just watched as everyone else ran was very sad.

Sakaki seems to imply that Kakeru hit him in the past, interesting. I was also intrigued by that flashback where they showed Kakeru losing all his money by gambling. Was he always a gambler? The store scene where he was deciding on whether to shoplift or not and the running after that representing his inner conflict was very well done.

PRINCE FTW! He's a man of culture and passion, don't worry my man I'm just like you. I've learnt my life philosophies from entertainment media too. xD
His speech to Sakaki was super awesome and I love how Haiji was like, 'yeah that' after Prince collapsed. XD

Looks like Sakaki got the guys riled up instead of demotivating them which is awesome. Kakeru's final reply to him was really nice.
Soundtrack during that entire scene was fantastic.

Can't wait for next week.

Sakaki is a fun character but man he still makes me want to punch him every second he's on screen.

This episode was pretty intense though, so proud of my guy Prince.

Sakaki is obviously a character the viewer is meant to dislike, but it failed for me this episode because the MC was way worse (unintenionally) and made me want to punch him every time he didn't say shit. He could have defused the whole dialogue so easy by just saying a few words but he can't get his teeth to open his mouth....
This was infuriating to watch. How can this guy in university be so freaking immature that he can't say literally anything...

Wow, Prince actually had a great moment right there. That was a really nice speech and I'm sure he'll become one of my favorite characters in the show. I swear, the moment I see him wearing some sweatpants instead of those jeans while running will be amazing xD

I really liked this episode. Especially, I loved the way Kurahara's anxiety was presented while he was running. It showed just how important and deep the conflict inside his head is. Not to mention that it was nicely animated and the OST was great as well.

That Sasaki guy sure is annoying but since I'm dealing with his counterpart in certain VN, I'm kinda used to that attitude of his. Well, on the good side, he gave the group some motivation in the end so... Good Job Shinji Sasaki.

Really awesome stuff. We get a bit of insight on Kakeru's past on the track team and makes it very easy to understand why he has been acting the way he has. I'm sure there will be more to come.

I'm really impressed with how they showcased Kakeru's trauma through the flashbacks of him looking on his past and then the kinda trippy running sequence was really cool. Also the drama at the end with Sakaki (?) was handled very well.

You don't start character development from an infant that can't speak to a grown man. The guy is already a young adult not some pre schooler.

I love it. the pace.. the flashback.. it's different from the other sports/drama I've ever seen. when MC goes running and memories intertwined, it kinda let me feel what he'd been up to. that's a clever way to show a character reasoning of doing something for the plot.

Who said that? There's always a room for character development whether you're an infant or a grown ass person. It doesn't stop there. And if you paid attention to this episode, Kurahara has been always like that. He can't speak for himself. So it's completely understandable how he acted. And what purpose do the other guys serve? Help him get out of his comfort zone. Help him grow not just as a runner, but as a person, vice versa. Just wait for a few more episodes.

This episode was really good!

I've really disliked Kurahara's attitude so far, but it finally changed, and the scene in which he tries to run away from his shadows was really poignant, even suffocating; his pain is real, and it's because he was too gifted to be accepted by his narrow-minded, jealous teammates.

Now, Prince was the MVP, this is how you write a comic relief character who is also serious, and important. I was laughing out loud with him again, I love how Haiji isn't threatening him anymore, but instead he is motivating him by quoting his beloved manga, this is great. And he was also the one that said some necessary stuff to Sakaki's face, this guy was insufferable, and I can't stand how weak Kakeru was, he should've said something too, instead of a "let's meet again" with a apologetic tone, but well. Violence is never the answer, and Kakeru was wrong to hit him, if it really happened, but I'm sure there's more to it, I can't wait to see this guy being defeated!

I really don't like the grumpy guy right now, but feeling the way he feels at his age does make sense.

I really love the otaku's voice. Every episode, I look forward to seeing his T shirts.

This is the first time I am watching a sports anime that's not targeted at children, so I don't know what's going to happen next. Pretty sure I will be able to find some story-telling pattern with this story too. (I'd be happy if I find it only after the anime has ended.)

Damn, this show is getting better and better.
The flashback parts were amazing. Seeing him reflect on previous actions, it was so creatively done. Kurahara's past so far is pretty interesting. Seeing him as the elite runner who the coach treated differently, creating resentment with his team, explains why he doesn't see running as a team sport.
That ending, damn, Prince may be the slowest runner, but he's racing forward to being my favourite character of the show.

I really like this anime so far but as a former cross country runner it drives me nuts at how inaccurate the times are. There is no way he is even coming close to breaking 15 minutes in the 5k that easily. If he was then he should be training for the olympics. The state records in most states are barely under 15 for high schoolers.

Whoa that went kind of psychological on us and I liked it.
Really glad they showed a bit of Kakeru's inner workings because you don't steal bread and run away from the scene and then keep pretending like it never happened.

The Hakone Ekiden premise is still iffy, as is that new dude but otherwise it's an enjoyable watch and I hope it keeps up. Ouji <3.

It's funny how Irino Miyu is a this hipster, would-rather-die-than-be-an-otaku Todomatsu but is an otaku, Akane Kashiwazaki, in Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru.

Akane has to be my favorite with all his funny shirts, being a Haruhara Haruko-look alike, being an otaku, being kind to everyone especially Kakeru and how he always dies when they're running. He died again today but bit back when Sakaki started to belittle them. Akane is leveling up. My next favorite is Yukihiro because he's a lawyer, he's smart, cool and he's kind of of the big brother who can talk back to Haiji who oversteps his boundaries.

Haiji did a good job encouraging Akane with manga quotes lol

Also, Kakeru hates his coach because his coach is the reason why his teammates ostracized him and probably why he didn't have friends in school? I'm just guessing. He doesn't like being treated special or favored because of that.
