Really weird beginning and I feel sorry for that patient. He needs to be an awkward position for 180 days because of "that" place. He accidentally (?) came to the doctor's place. He was amazed at the nurse who gave him a vitamin shot.

Weird... his wife left him and he cannot forget her, so "that" happens?

He's been asking for impossibles with the position.

Accident happens during the job at the pool.

He will need to get over his wife, who wears short skirt and with another guy. He needs to tell her his feeling. lol @ his imagination.

His wife thought he has a new wife, because she already has a baby. Though she said sorry to him. He gradually is back to normal.

Love this episode, the fact that standing up meant; standing up straight from the awkward position he was in / he had to stand up for his own opinions and such.

And I also love how they hint you on the next episode's patients (example: in ep1, Taguchi was there doing their paperwork and in ep2, Junichi is the author of the book. These small details makes this show extra interesting imo :)

My god, just great. So ridiculously random.

Plus, he span(spun?) a briefcase on his johnson as well.

i liked this better than the first one. Through out the episode i was wondering why they focused so much in the coworkers, when he keeps assuming that the problem has to do with the ex-wife, so that's why...

Loved the methaphor with stand up with your awkwardness/self opinion!

This episode just simply cracked me up. The first episode was flashy to me but then it became acclimated.
also lol at Takahiro Sakurai making grimaces so that he looks bad whereas he is actually handsome.

somehow, even though this one is just as werid as the first one.
I was able to enjoy it much more. maybe it's that I am getting used to the art or maybe this story is better than the first? not sure which but I actually think this will turn out to be a pretty good/great anime.

It's going to be fun next week....

Good stuff.

I found the directing to be more clever on this episode. Looks like the symptom was invented on the novel, as a hardcore form of priapism.

The dualism between his behaviour and his "penis behaviour" was quite funny haha. But more important than that, I found the metaphore about "standing up" on your decisions, and not letting others take advantage of you (the main core of his illness imo) to be very well executed.

The show is also full of interesting details, like the animal symbolism (penguins and rhinos), and Irabu's three persona. Thinking about them as Id, Ego and Superego seems to work, but I'm having trouble discerning which persona is what.

Kuchu Buranko is probably my favorite show this season. :)

I too think this might be the best of the bunch this season.

As for the rhino," The Rhinoceros Sutra" is a very early Buddhist text advocating the merit of solitary pursuit of enlightenment while refraining from worldly pleasures.

For what it's worth this is the slightly abridged beginning of the 40 verse "The Rhinoceros Sutra" you can see how it applies to the episode. (the whole thing can be found at: http://www.hermitary.com/solitude/rhinoceros.html)

Renouncing violence for all living beings, harming not even a one, you would not wish for offspring, so how a companion? Wander alone like a rhinoceros.

One whose mind is enmeshed in sympathy for friends and companions, neglects the true goal. Seeing this danger in intimacy, wander alone like a rhinoceros.

In the midst of companions -- when staying at home, when going out wandering -- you are prey to requests. Valuing freedom, wander alone like a rhinoceros.

Without resistance in all four directions, content with whatever you get, enduring troubles with no dismay, wander alone like a rhinoceros.

Btw, the bird in the first episode was a crane. The Japanese refer to the crane as “the bird of happiness;” the Chinese as “heavenly crane” believing they were symbols of wisdom.

Only for the first 50 years or so. - In another forum somebody put forth the theory that the three personae represent the Ego (young man with glasses and long hair), Id (man in the clown suit) and Superego (young boy). This might be correct since the patient never acknowledges there's a different "person" talking to him.

This episode was way better than the first one. It was funny and random but also more interesting. Even though I'm a girl, I'm empathized with his embarrassment and awkwardness and helplessness in all those situations. I thought it was well done even though I'm still on the fence about wacky animation. =) Looking forward to more!

Damn, the director took the bizarreness to the next level.

The sight of that guy being forced to help out in that hunched position cracked me up. And after that brilliant visualization of him finally letting it out to his ex-wife, I felt quite sorry for him that he chose to keep silent and be considerate of her feelings; at least, he gave that co-worker of his a piece of his mind.

Seriously, this series needs more love.

Well, that turned my opinion of this series around. This episode was great. Not as random, imo. Definitely easier on the eyes. I felt sorry for the guy, so I'm glad he stood up for himself at the end. Can't wait for the next episode.

Oh, btw, the ED is pretty much awesome.

I love this show. This episode was hilarious. This series has so much originality (something that lacks in anime these days) and it is just so out there as well. Love the imagery, and also the music is great too :) Easily one of the best this season for me.

That was terrific. I liked this case much more than the first as the theme was much more straight forward to me. As others have mentioned the standing up for himself for himself to stop standing up was presented very well.

I really liked this episode. Though the vitamin shot felt like canned "animation," and the animation itself felt less dynamic than the first episode, I settled down and enjoyed this more since I knew what to expect. Very good stuff.

Show's got style and humor and ep 2 is proof of that. Good episode; Tetsuya's fidgeting around trying to hide his condition in front of everyone was hilarious and the conclusion of him standing up for himself was well needed.

Shit, this one is even better than first one. I loved it a lot.

I almost died at briefcase spin scene, oh god. This is just amazing.

I like how they described 'standing up' and in fact his penis at that time was actually shrinking... xD... Lots of symbolism, lots of thoughts.

This is the best anime this autumn, seriously.

I thought that permanent erection (priapism) causes tissue death leading to complete impotence, and more nasty stuff if it lasts longer than 2 days. He had it for a week. I don't get it why the doctor didn't just drew some blood from him to temporarily suspend it... Till he got himself together.

Random rant: Brazilian wandering spider bite also causes priapism (so if you are lucky enough to survive the bite you'll probaly become impotent...)
