Welp, that escalated quickly. Not even Miyo's dreams are safe when she uses her abilities.

I'm also convinced at this point that Usui is some sort of psychopath even after he tries to justify his reasons for his actions. Once again, it was up to Kiyoka to save her. Miyo felt helpless but I don't think she should blame herself. Usui has proven himself to be the most malicious character this season.

Hey, those are some pretty smart citizens. They know they can complain about the taxes they pay lol. Though that being that, I can’t say it’s particularly true for people who are in positions of power in this series. I mean we saw in the last episode as well how they were fighting among themselves. So yeah, no wonder people like Usui are having it easy.

That man coming from the front door and doing whatever the fuck he wanted… which includes him attacking Hazuki and leaving Yurie, just so she can go and help calling in Kiyoka, was again, Usui leading the charge from the back, and you know, however heroic it may have looked, I did kinda felt for him and Miyo in the end when Arata actually betrayed them… for the greater good… the greater good which I’m sure would redeem Arata later. Seriously, we all saw it coming but yeah, when it actually happened, it feels like this should have never happened:(

Empire strike back ass episode today man this ruined my day. Kiyoka πŸ’” To think all this started because Miyo mom just wanted Usui to be happy and find something to cherish on his own. He’d already started gifted communion, but losing her probably destroyed what little moral compass he did have.

Well, the cherry blossoms have finally been disturbed by the snow. What the Prince predicted has come true and Miyo and Kiyoka are in their worst situation yet. The education minister and his bodyguard being treasonous scumbags is no shock at all. But idk why he thinks gifted communion won’t just come for him one day even if he became PM. How you get power is how you’ll lose it.

Arata is so fucking annoying man. I was hoping he wouldn’t end up betraying them, but gave him too much credit apparently. If you wanted her to love you, that’s gone now dumbass. And why were there not better defenses in place since miyo was the primary target?!

“I love you Miyo I should’ve told you sooner” FUCKKKK. If there’s one good thing that comes from this, it’s that Miyo and Kiyoka will be closer now! I need Usui dead NOW.

Pretty obvious twist, with hints being teased here and there. I had always thought Arata was either a traitor or a double agent, so..

Regardless, really digged the OST that played during that scene, but not much else.

  • In a situation where the balance of power is matched, attackers have an advantage over defenders.
  • Even if a psychic has destructive powers, his body is as vulnerable as ordinary people. It reminds me of Shinsekai yori ep.18. Since it's too strong plot armor, healing ability is not popular in psychic genre unlike isekai stories.

They all know that Miyo is one of Usui's top targets, yet no one was left inside that mansion to guard her from the intruder. huh!?

My knowledge of chess is lackluster, but considering the situation Kiyoka, Miyo and the other good guys are in, the gifted Communion would have them at "check", probably one move away from checkmate. Not the best analogy I can think of, but it was the first thing that came to my mind considering how dominant Naoshi's group has become.

They have influence and power in all forms of government and also have the emperor under their control. Simply put, Miyo would most likely have died if Kiyoka didn't arrive in time, with Taisuishi in tow, to help out, but that sadly led him into a trap where Arata, of all people, sealed his betrayal by shooting at Kiyoka in the back before having him arrested.

Just to make things more brutal, Kiyoka finally said "I love you" to Miyo before he was led away. Honestly, it's hard to think of how the story will go, where a chance for the good guys to turn this situation around appears to be getting smaller and smaller. At this rate, I do see Miyo fully awakening her powers, which is exactly what Naoshi wants to see happen. I believe her powers might be the only hope left to turn this around once and for all.

Also, I hope someone gives Arata and solid punch to the face for his betrayal. It's the least this bastard deserves...

Whats most insidious about the communion is their usage of shapeshifters. Human cultists are bad enough but ones that can transform into monsters even more so. In a way Naoshi sees Miyo as the reason for her mom leaving him. That sudden snowfall sure was omnimous. Man using Miyo as the bait to lure Kiyoka out was truly heinous. Didn't take a genius to figure out that the traitor in question was someone high up that had a power dream. But to think that Arata did indeed get turned by Naoshi damm.

Ok, we all know , Arata will kind of betray Both Kiyoka and Miyo .. It was that obvious from the moment he met with Usui alone...

But yeah, i do have to say what a planning by Naoshi Usui ... Amazing ...

He was just waiting for the right moment and yeah, he did it ... Able to Gravely Injured and Arrest Kiyoka, Injured the Emperor to tackle Prince Takaihito , Bribed the Education Minister ,
Mind Washing of Arata Usuba, and basically Mentally and Emotionally forcing Miyo to Awakening her Dream Sight Ability ..

Wonderful, wonderful , wonderful ...

and yeah, a emotional confession by Kiyoka to Miyo that I LOVE YOU ... Good episode tbh.. , Some people might complain for being plot holes and too obvious things but still, great ep ...

Fuck, it's all gone to hell.... What's the point of being a trained soldier with supernatural abilities if you're going to lose to a weapon? I don't mean Kiyoka, who was caught off guard, but the useless soldiers guarding Miyo. If they know Usui is after her, why put only two guards at the entrance?

Speaking of Usui, as much as it pains me to say it, his anger against everyone connected with the Mikado is understandable: they took his life with Sumi. But to be a vengeful lunatic with emotional baggage from the past who wants to ruin innocent Miyo's life and stage a coup is unjustifiable.

As for Arata, I am very disappointed. If his actions are just to protect his family's image, he's an idiot. I'll stick my hands in the fire for him and believe he's acting as a double agent, but if that's not the case, he'll go straight to my blacklist of characters I hate from this anime.

I hate to be that guy but I do wish it followed the LN a bit better. Don't get me wrong, I still love this anime and I understand time crunches and changes need to be made, but I still feel they could have stayed true to the LN while leaving some parts out. Only 4 episodes left though 😬

I get Usui he has every reason to be mad at emperor and everything associated with it for taking away Sumi but taking down Kiyoka, I can't really sympathize with this. And Arata idk what he's upto but it isn't a good look.

Poor Kiyoka and Miyo it was really tough to watch.

@Softhenic03 you think that Arata deserves redemption? Noper, but yea he probably will, the Usui maniacal psycho has orchestrated all is a bit too slow, yet not enough powerful than Miyo once she will awaken her full potential....

What has this series devolved into? We're nearly done with the second season Miyo still is as useless as ever, she's done nothing to learn to use the abilities she awakened at the end of season 1. Usui has effortlessly infiltrated all aspects of their government and Arata has expertly carried out his duty. The action scenes in this series are atrocious, it would be much better of they didn't exist. I gave it a 3/5 but that seems to be a bit to generous if I'm being honest.

How Usui used his powers to freeze erryone, when his powers is ilusion or mind manipulation?

Well, i didnt think Arata would be a traitor but most likely he is being double agent. Everything in this episode happened fast.

Uhm... why do I feel like Arata will reach "redemption" later? Like, he did all of that to take Usui down, is he a double agent? That would be totally dumb, I hope he really is a traitor and that Miyo won't forgive him lol~ I need him out of the scene

@hualiian Honestly all of Arata's actions thus far have made 0 sense so being a double agent and redeeming himself is the only way to have it make sense. Like, the fact alone that he said "Mikado" ordered him to, and what his stance obviously should've been on this whole thing, it's just too out of character for him. Obviously Usui wouldn't know that so.... guess I'm in the same boat he's totally a double agent or something.

Naoshi plots against the government and gotten Kiyoda arrested. Why Arata is joining forces with Naoshi is quite perplexing at this point?

Finally get to see Kiyoda says "I love you" to Miyo at the end scene despite him being shot and arrested. Next episode will be epic.

This episode is quite the cry your heart out episode. Where the Gifted Communion makes their big play, Hazuki getting violently strangled, Miyo learning what happened between Sumi and Naoshi with Sumi wanting Naoshi to pursue his own ideal which destroyed whatever remaining shred of humanity the bastard had left. Alongside Arata betraying Kiyoka and miyo by shooting Kiyoka and having him get arrested and Kiyoka telling Miyo that he loves her before he is whisked away. Man.... it was quite the emotional roller coaster.

Having read the LN, I appreciate some of the changes that made this episode even more intense. Arata did not shoot Kiyoka. He merely arrested him.

I like the visuals when Miyo intruded into Naoshi's dream.

I'm excited for the following episodes, which cover LN6, because we shall see peak character growth for Miyo.

It was so predictable that Arata was going to betray them. Honestly, I laughed at the end as Miyo was sobbing, because Arata is doing all this because he loves Miyo but Miyo will never cry for him like she does Kiyoka. I hope he realizes that.

They were sitting having a tea party in ep 8, so ?????
this now didn't make any sense, in the last ep they were searching for the person who infiltrated the military & now the gifted communion came so far so quick?
I really like this series, so this episode was just confusing & it's making me mad -.-

So many questions that I have now, but this episode was still really good and emotional.
Miyo is not even safe in her own mind, she and Kudo got betrayed, and BRO THAT CONFESSION? I PLAYED IT 5 TIMES JUST TO SEE IF I HEARD IT CORRECTLY. I sobbed.
Still, nobody inside the palace to protect was weird, the whole story line of Usui I still can't really understand, but next episode maybe will show it, I hope.
