Masaki is a good addition to the show.

Neko is both cute and smart. Her deduction skills are quite impressive.

So it seems all type of characters will be appearances in their hotel. Just happens that the visitor this time has a medical background. Even with their eerie vibe, Neko does her best in her role.

But yeah, this anime has that 'Monster of the Week' vibe with its interconnected themes. I'm not seeing a major plot developing yet.

Another great episode, Neko is becoming very good at uncovering the identity of new guests. I really don't like this criminal guy he is definitely untrustworthy.

Seems like there are all kind of guests. I still don't know what'll happen if someone get killed inside the hotel, but well, still many episodes to go!

Another great episode!

Masaki is murderer but in this hotel it doesn't count? Well...

Manager just calmly told everyone that they can't live here forever.

He must have witnessed alot of his friends disappearing one after other,I guess.
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Another great episode, this show is truly a hidden gem this season. Oosoto is a great addition to the cast, having a unsteady murderous r*pist will give this show a consistent level of unease, not knowing if he is up to something behind the scene.

Neko seems to be into the challenge of letting him stay into the hotel. Intrigued to see how these two will interact in future episodes.

Neko's deduction skills are very good, to the point of not only helping the guests discover their identities, but also discovering that Oosoto is a murderer. It is possible that he also has something to do with Neko's death. Definitely, Oosoto staying at the hotel bodes trouble. At least Neko got a hug and gratitude from Ruri, which was enough for her to start over.

I'm also intrigued by Atori's room and why it's always at night. I think there might be a deeper connection between the three of them.

I was surprised the MC didn't try to jump out the window to explore the train station. At least we'd know if it's possible.

I'm truly enjoying Tasokare. The best of the 1st seasons for me.

Another well done episode.

I am really enjoying this well written mystery anime.

And Neko is a lot of fun.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

I think Masaki will make a fun addition to the cast, I liked the subtle detail of Neko grabbing her side upon first suspecting him. Subconciously it seems a part of her does remember what happened.

my boy osoto finally appears! i feel like they left out some of the characterization/details from the game (such as his motivations for raping and killing those women along with some smaller details that add to his character)...but oh well there's only so much they can cover in 20 minutes. this was a great episode, just as I expected. Can't wait for the next one which should be pretty interesting if they execute it well.

I didn't expect him to die from falling and getting impaled on a fence... it was like a scene from Final Destination.

Already guessed that he's a criminal... his behavior was too suspicious for a detective lol. Especially when he said that his parents were great doctors... I assumed that he dissected the bodies of his victims carefully. Luckily Ruri didn't become the next victim. All thanks to Neko!

Still curious why he made such a "trivial" comment like complimenting Atori's face. Hopefully it will be revealed soon. Speaking of Atori, I want to know what his face looked like when he first came to the hotel...

there are many versions but it's a voodoo tale (it comes from Benin and Togo before being spread in the US)
the story is that at night you can encounter a tall man at a crossroad sometimes he wears a large hat or has the head of an animal or a flower
and sometimes he will ask for the way and reward you or curse you
or he can ask you for a wish but asking for impure things will bring you to hell
but he's not really the devil, more like a guardian of heaven and hell

from the clothing too you would think Masaki was a detective and having him on the main image of this show would mean he was innocent so it was really interesting seeing them lift our expectations and reverse them when deducing that he is actually a criminal that hasn't been found out yet in the real world
I'm really liking that this show is not full on serious mystery drama but there are funny moments every so often too making this whole series rather palatable but also wanting to watch more

Ruling out any later twists on the issue or the setup of their origin stories and what little background information has been given being a fake-out, it is known that at least Neko and Atori, and I believe Ruri as well, are humans from Earth/the living world. But I wonder about the flame-headed manager, Menou (the barkeeper with the goatlike horns), and Kiriko (the aye-aye or lemur-looking gent...not sure which or what exactly he's supposed to resemble). It would be nice to know if they're guiding angels, demons (not necessarily malevolent or "evil" ones like in the Western/Christian sense), or some other form of spirit.

They can't refuse or discriminate between guests, regardless of their deeds or activities and lifestyles on Earth. I think that ultimately it does make sense logically, because this hotel is supposed to serve as a waystation and sorting mechanism of sorts between lost souls for the benefit of the individuals themselves but also the integrity of the living world and the afterlife so that everyone can properly end up where they're meant to be. Serial killer or selfless charity worker doesn't really factor into it. It would create a mess if they started discriminating.

That's just the case and has been for a while now for many or most, if not all, of the less mainstream not-super popular shows released nowadays in the regular season. At least it has been for the past number of seasons since I've started monitoring and taking notice of this phenomenon. They usually all have ratings in the 6-range, very very low 7 at best, and sometimes down into the 5s if they are even more controversial or there is more legitimate reason to complain.

Neko is so ill informed, she even didn't recognized Sherlock Holmes...but on the other hand, her ignorance helps her being unbiased.

train station

It looked more like railroad crossing with overpass for the pedestrians...but I have seen (on IRL streams and such) japanese train stations which have overpass to cross the railroad and reach the platform for the opposite direction...but I guess the show will return to this scene.

I called it from the beginning that he’d be a serial killer, although they did throw me off a little in the middle. I wonder if there’s any connection to what happened to Neko, I’m pretty sure it showed her getting stabbed in the first episode.

@hanakocheeks About Atori, I don't know if they'll animate the special story of him first arriving the hotel for us to see that face since it's not really part of the main story but hopefully they will. It's a content that's not officially translated into english yet (since they didn't localize the PC remake, Atori and Ruri's story was new there). Incase they didn't, you can find a fan translation about it on youtube, but I advise to NOT watch it until the show ends since it contains some spoiler.

I want to like this more. It's a fine concept, but the episodic stories are still shallow. Maybe having an antagonist character around will make this go somewhere. Or really the staying at all since we can peel away more layers of his story.

@Bio yeah, I hope the serial killer will shake things up because up to this point it was kind of boring and if they just shrug their shoulders and carry on then I may well drop it.

Hmm so this new "detective" guy is actually a criminal. Interesting.

Now we know you can't stay in the hotel forever.
You go to hell if you kill someone while in the hotel. So hell exists too.
What happens to the victim though? Can they actually be killed?
When the new guy remembered getting impaled, he projected bleeding.
You can't die from that, but you can be killed by someone else anyways?
Doesn't seem fair if that's the case. Ruri, like Neko, has to decide own fate. Isn't the purpose of the hotel to help people remember and decide? If death is "enabled" here, it defeats its purpose IMO.
Oh yes, there was also info about memory wipe once you go back to the world of the living. Kind of disappointing to be honest. I mean, that gambler guy from previous episode won't remember anything and will likely repeat mistakes if he survives. Shouldn't one of the purposes of this hotel be to help people reflect? How do you change if you can't remember figuring out why you were wrong?
