I decided to give the Japanese dub a try since I've watched the English one for episodes, but the accent and probably the tones too when she speaks Chinese (the 我的爱人 (wo de ai ren) part) is a turn off for me, so I switched back to English. No offense for the voice actors, she did an amazing job, but I expected they'd hire a VA who can speak Chinese, doesn't even have to be professional Chinese speaker, even a moderate one would do. I think she's one of the few anime characters where the English dub is actually better than the Japanese dub. How does she speaks Chinese in the other dubs?

well it happens a lot in anime. Russian, German, and English are other examples that have been used in the past. How accurate is another question but I do not think it is that bothering personally.

I watched the original long ago with English dubs, so poor accents don’t phase me. Also they got a lot of the original VAs to reprise their role so it’s whatever

Even for characters in Chinese settings, we generally do not use Chinese-speaking voice actors.

Similarly, we would not use a Russian-speaking voice actor for a character with a Russian setting or a German-speaking voice actor for a character with a German setting.

No it actually does, if you watch the episode where ryoaga and Ranma fight, there’s a piece of dialogue that doesn’t at all coalesce with the Japanese dub counterpart and focuses more on it’s not wrong for guys to like clothes which honestly didn’t bother me but it also doesn’t sit right with me that people are pushing their own agenda on anime. Ranma may turn into a girl but he’s the most masculine in the anime.

I like the original Dub VA for shampoo but the new one is a tad bit better. Just a tad bit. The old Va’s broken Chinese is cute and all but the new one definitely is taking this one. Not cringe at all in either version.

Bro she is from China...what do you expect? This is like getting mad at Rock's English VA speaking Japanese in the Black Lagoon dub.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

I'd imagine most watchers wouldn't care, especially if they don't know what the Mandarin language usually sounds like. But yeah, her Chinese does not sound Chinese at all. But it's to be expected, considering her JP VA obviously doesn't speak Chinese. And it's usually pretty cringe/funny whenever JP VAs speak broken English as well.

I never saw the original, I didn't even know about this until this remake, but a thing that I noticed and that I like about this is that they brought some of the OG VA's for this. Ranma and Akane VA are also the same.

Most of what I could say about this has already been replied here. I will add this: the original Ranma 1/2 treated the Chinese characters with more than a little contempt, something which is completely absent in this remake so far.

I feel like the people claiming 'woke' are just upset it's not the original. I don't have any issue with guys caring about fashion and don't think it's woke, just updating for the times.
In that case, I feel like Ryoga (in both renditions I think) is more woke, implying that no guy, even manly men, would care about fashion.

The English dub is woke and most of you weirdos need to stfu because at least one of you are part of that garbage calling yourself non-binary. Get the f out of here with your delusions, weirdo. The guy @Mr_Sai is totally correct in that whom ever creep is in charge of the English dub and dialogue pushed that bullsh!t into the official release as that is not what Ranma says whatsoever.

Ryoga verbally attack Ranma by saying I believe the line he says was "What are you? A girl?" because Ranma was complaining about his shirt being ripped by him. He, Ranma, then replies with "Who are you calling a girl!" as this was before Ryoga finds out about his curse. He, Ryoga uses, this to his advantage after finding out from then on.

The English official release abuses their power and injects trash ideology and making up a line that never existed in the original Japanese line. These freaks need to be fired on the spot and blacklisted from ever working on any translation to the English language as forever untrustworthy.

What makes this worse is the support from the weirdos a few who are present above my post are okay with this using deceit and lies and mockery to anybody who calls out these abominations out and thinks it's just a case of exaggeration when it is very much not so in this case seeing I watched that episode myself and I know I wasn't alone on knowing this.

@MasterHavik I would expect a character who is from China and barely speaks Japanese to not speak Chinese with a Japanese accent.

Also jeez nobody here knows what "woke" even means....so they changed one thing Ranma said into a sentence that's sort of out of character. In what world does that make it woke? I hope you all realize that you sound absolutely ridiculous, right? If you're trying to make a point about agendas being forced into spaces where they don't belong, at least try to find an example of where that's actually happening.

@ChangeLeopardon The voice actor is not Japanese dude. This take so ice cold you didn't do research. I'm dead.

@MasterHavik Are you talking about the English dub? Her dub voice actor's name is "Lu" so I assume she's of Chinese descent, but both OP and I are referring to the Japanese version, where her voice actor is undeniably Japanese.

Anyways, it makes sense that they'd cast somebody Japanese because it's, yknow, made in Japan and for a Japanese accent, but I just find it weird to her somebody speak Chinese with a Japanese accent and then be unable to form sentences when speaking Japanese despite having a Japanese accent.

@PepiNoKimi To a low life piece of garbage like you would never say that to my face I can assure you of that ugly cave beast.

Trash like you are the problem on why these monsters continually are allowed to defame anime with their subtitle trash. A medium in which you pretend to enjoy and love but are just a twisted fuckin fake.

@ChangeLeopardon Jeez I wonder why you didn't reply to me lol. You don't want any smoke. I know what woke means very clearly and I'm not white just so you know. I'm black and native.

Are you familiar with how Chinese/Mandarin sounds like when the natives speak?? I did watch some chinese dramas and Shampoo's chinese didn't feel authentic to me... Not only in this, in anime Undead Unluck there is a chinese character who sometimes speak in Chinese... It's really really bad.. I think I would have pronounced it better

@ixaa It's about the principles who are handling the dub and also my trust in them to deliver accurate translations.... If in season 1 they changed 1 line, I don't how many will they change in Season 2... I wouldn't know which lines have changed... I wanted to experience Rumiko Takahashi's Ranma 1/2 not some dubbing company's Ranma 1/2... Why can't the dubbing companies just dub it instead of creating their own lines??

And somehow, the new dialogue written by the dubbing company, always suspiciously, have woke ideas in it... I don't them to insult my intelligence, so it is necessary to call them out whenever you see it
