Nice to meet you. I'm Japanese, but I registered to study English. I can't speak English very well, so it may be late to reply, but I'd be happy if you could get along with me! As the number of my friends is increasing, I may decline your friend request if there is no particular reason for it. In that case, I'm sorry.
There was a time when I was a little bit of a cosplayer. A long, long time ago, though.
Anime movies I've seen in theaters recently
Kidou Senshi Gundam: GQuuuuuuX Rantarou Movie: Dokutake Ninja Tai Saikyou no gunshi Mononoke Movie: Karakasa
Then again, I love the Slayers series, so I'd love to talk to someone or something!

Thankfully over the past few years Gundam has become more readily available on streaming services like Netflix and Crunchyroll. Prior to that there was the Gundam Info YouTube channel, which allowed me to see Zeta Gundam, my favorite anime, for the first time in the late 2000s, And prior to that we were getting the original series, Char's Counterattack, 08th Ms Team and some others on home video. Char's Counterattack is one I watched a lot on DVD, maybe even more than my End of Evangelion VHS tape, which I still have on my desk.
The big problem was that Bandai pulled out of the western market in the late 2000s or early 2010s, Home video goes up in price at an extreme rate here once it goes out of print (my Dangaioh DVD costs 20 times more than what I payed for it now, for example, and it is not on streaming or gotten a new home video release), as people use the used market to make major profits off of older anime and video games which are no longer being offered to us officially. And while I could pay to rent Gundam Unicorn episodes off of the PlayStation Network, most Gundam anime had become very obscure. Then most Gundam anime came on blu-ray in the mid 2010s, but now they are out of print and overpriced on the secondary market as well, as the licensor was bought out by a streaming service that is less interested in home video. I have a friend asking me about why they are having such a hard time completing their Gundam home video collection and expecting that something must be coming up to relieve the issue. I don't know if that's the case, but I sure hope so.
Yes it was quite early, around 1990 we got Maddox 01, Gunbuster and Dangaioh, others like Bubblegum Crisis, Devil Hunter Yoko and Sol Bianca quickly followed. Much of the marketing strategy was to emphasize the idea that anime was animation that was particularly edgy and for adults, which was so unlike what we knew in western animation, and we were given a very curated selection and advertising style used to prop up this image, as you can see in this trailer reel and video catalogue.
Ah I see! Akahori Satoru is on my profile under my favorite persons, I thought you meant that. But yes, my profile image is Sophia from Battle Arena Toushinden. I went to a fine arts school as a child, but I focused on music instead of art, so that was much of what I did in the 2000s. These days I would like to learn how to draw, and if I could draw like Kotobuki Tsukasa I would be very happy.
It is a very nice kind of enjoyment to feel that connection to specific staff members and their career as a whole. I get a bit disappointed in how some anime fans don't really think of anime as something made by people; animation quality often just gets attributed to budget as opposed to the talented people drawing it, as if animators were just vending machines to have animation pumped out of based on how much money you put in. I try to emphasize that human aspect of anime as much as I can in hopes that it will catch on. I think many staff were attracted to OVAs for the reason you mentioned, that they could be and often were carefully made, and the staff could feel like they had been able to realize their vision with less constraints.
I enjoy talking to you as well, would you mind if I send you a friend request?
In North America, prior to the popularization of TV anime like Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Dragonball and Gundam Wing. many OVAs were brought over to be sold as an introduction to anime to many people, some others in the thread detailed this. While I am of the Pokemon generation, I quickly moved on to renting OVAs from video rental shops, which were still open and full of OVAs and films in home video format. With the small amount of money that I could earn delivering papers and the like I got a taste of a generation of anime slightly before my own. Much later as an adult I started to return to many OVAs and doing so got me very invested and passionate in anime in general, and especially 80s and 90s anime. Your experience with the OVA medium is closer to understanding it in its original context, but I do my best to find information that can enlighten me to that context and make sense of it
This was actually my first time commenting on the forums since 2021, I have been more private over the past few years but I'm opening up more now, your words of encouragement definitely help with that, so thanks!
As far as Akahori Satoru goes, I somewhat recently watched his Sorcerer Hunters and Master Mosquiton anime, and I want to keep myself reminded to pursue his works in general, as now that I have looked at his credits, he has been involved in a lot of good stuff, and I find that following staff works well for me to find more anime I like.
Thank you for the kind words. I have to admit I may not have anything more to say in the thread though, just based on where the conversation is now. The topic is one I am particularly interested in and I am always happy to learn, and to spread knowledge on these topics, so I'm glad what I was saying made sense and was helpful to you!
I'll need to look around to watch Ghost Sweeper Mikami the movie.
Is the Okinu-chan story tragic or something? Very few stories make me cry, but I enjoy the ones that do for some reason.
Thank you for the information on doujinshi, there doesn't seem to be an English word equivalent. Thought it was mainly fan made stuff at first, since its not I'll have to check it out.
replying to your 9th jan comment, a bit of a warning about my typing...there could be some misplaced words or spelling errors....it's not on purpose, it's my dyslexia
That's totally fine haha. I am the same too, that's what most are like. Having to reply to everyone and trying to keep up, it can get exhausting sometimes. Specially for introverts, like me. That's why I take my time to reply, and you should too. Just be comfortable at your own pace.
It...feels like a "catch 22", when you go out of your way, to say to me that you are not polite. Hmmm....well you say that you aren't polite, but also you are letting me know that you aren't polite. That's just being humble, and you need to be polite to be humble.....I think?.....you are humble and polite...a humbolite??! hehe. I am jk, sry for confusing you with my nonsense :^)
You are really fun to talk to.
Oh, I haven't seen much anime too. It's been years. I haven't read much manga.......well i have, but it's pretty bad schlop manga that i have read to waste time not even really worth mentioning. I should some better manga titles. You could recommend me something, I'll give it a try. And....if I don't like it, i'll tell you honestly that I didn't really like it. I am not as polite as you think too hehe.
It's whatever you take it as, a suggestion or a warning. I am not saying it's all bad, it's a nice distraction.....but if you spend too much time in the forums....i can't imagine you would end up with any quality friendships...it's all rather just people taking in semantics.......or trying to prove themselves right to seek validation for their ideals.......or just forming groups like a high school. I am already done with high school, i am a working adult now hehe. I don't have time for all that nonsense! Bleh! hehe :^)
But, kihel-kun. The decision is all up to you. You should judge the forums for yourself. I am probably biased about it with my own personnel experiences at the forums after spending so much time there.
Ahh I can sort of understand what you mean, that does sound annoying to deal with. Hehe, the audacity of someone telling you how your own country is like when they only know about it through anime/manga....that's pretty bad. Oh? I wonder what your views on piracy is. We may or may not have the same views on piracy but we can come to an understanding about it, or maybe just agree to disagree and move on. I don't really like to argue much. I'd respect what your views on piracy is :^)
Yes....tell me about it...It really is difficult to be a good friend. I try to do my best to be a good friend and leave the rest to fate. Because what the other person thinks of me, is not up to me. It's up to them. I try to do whatever I can, so that I would at least have no regrets on my side....like "I should have done this or that". But it is still difficult anyways. You can still be left with just the regret of things not working out despite doing your best. Specially when you have a falling out with someone you have been friends for a long time.
It's easy........to have a lot of friends if you put in the effort to talk to everyone and just add everyone, exchanging some greetings and then forgetting about them. You could have a thousand "friends" doing this....and it may never be enough with that way of thinking. But trying to build just one single really good friendship.......that is something....really, really difficult to do imo.
You know it's funny, i just said that I'll be more active on discord. But i am taking a break from it now hehe. Whether it's discord, mal....or any other socials...it doesn't matter much to me as long as there is a way to talk. You can talk to me, wherever you can manage to contact me.
That's really nice and relaxing. I am not really sure what a voice reading event is, maybe you could tell me a bit about it hehe. Speaking of voice reading.....I actually bought myself a decent mic, last month...I set it all up and didn't use it for a month. But it kept on staring at me for so long x_x
Speaking on a mic, just makes me really nervous. But I finally got over it and started using the mic. Maybe I should leave a message to you hehe. I think I'll sing you a belated happy birthday song...maybe in japanese. Idk any japanese but I can try to do my best to sing if you wouldn't mind me making a lot of mistakes hehe.
It's really talking to you kihel,
have a wonderful day.
Finished watching Ghost Sweeper Mikami, each episode felt unique and laughed more than I thought I would. That one episode where Mikami was putting everyone that was turned into a mannequin into the trunk of her car was my favorite funny moment. And Okinu was an incredibly kind ghost despite the fact she tried to kill Yokoshima at first. Good show liked it thanks for recommending.
By the way sorry about the indirect response on the comiket book, next time ill be more direct when answering.
So Doujinshi isn't exactly defined as fan made work, would "Dragon Ball: That Time I Got Reincarnated as Yamcha!" be a good example of doujinshi?
Hope you liked it. Yeah, I've decided to avoid SNS like Facebook and X for that reason since a lot of Western Gundam fans on those platforms are very eager to share the pamphlet pages and camrips. I want to go into GQuuuuuuX knowing as little about it as possible.
Oh really, and where did you buy it and which one was it?
I also really like Sailor Moon, wow how cool and you still have them? I've also wanted to buy some kind of merchandise
Wow what a nice way to enter the world of light novels, Slayers was part of my childhood I remember watching it on TV as a kid
That's true, whenever I see when they put on color contacts I get a little scared hahaha
oooh quite interesting, I think the first two can be somewhat limiting but there wouldn't be much of a problem now with the third you're quite right most fan communities today are very toxic and awful
I really appreciate it, I hope you had a great time, and it's a little late but I wish you a happy new year
How was your start of the year? The return after the holidays?
When I used the google translate for melonbooks, said it was a collection of novels that's where the mistake was. So the compilation is basically fanzine illustrations, kind of relieved to know I wont miss out on Slayers story stuff. I appreciate the offer to order one and send it, but I think I need to figure out the whole currency exchange first. The shipping cost might be more than the book itself.
Maybe I just need to find a freelance translator to translate, though I learned translators charge per word. Might have to give up on the 30 or so specials, due to price.
Now that I know that's a translation error it makes sense reading it now. I think you meant to say "the book put out last summer" instead of "The book I put out last summer". Is this derivative work of yours related to Slayers?
I'm unfamiliar with doujinshi, isn't it like fan made published works?
Kept forgetting to ask but I want to know what your favorite music from the Slayers is?
I'll link my favorite musical piece of Slayers, for some reason I can't find the actual name to it.

Are you going to go with your friend again for this year’s Conan movie? Aaa, tell me how’s the LN so far. I loved the anime.
