The world may be different but the feeling of the show remains the same. From a narrative perspective, the past few episodes really changed a lot of events.

I still enjoy watching Buchio interact with humans and understanding their emotions even in this finale. The demon problems are gone for now and realistically, I think everyone can move on from this. Good show overall, unique in character elements and storytelling.

With the rift in the sky, the world begins to invert, leaving all of the Yokai vulnerable with their vanishing spirit energy, causing a ruckus everywhere. Of course, that's to say that Yokai like Buchio and Jiro too are also affected, and the bond between human and Yokai is severed, for bad or for worse. Still, the three spirits roaming around Sanmoto's spirit being Mutsumi, Takumi and Ryo, they soon come to the realization that the humans' kotodama have the power to restore things if they wish for it, and that is the cry of their hearts to give meaning to things of existence. With that, Mutsumi is able to travel back to her own world where everything is alright, even Jiro.

The boundary break produced a pale moment for Takumi, though Sanmoto was the catalyst for helping them get back to where they are. That being said, having to learn the Void and Niente as the catalyst for the darkness Oni, which by the kotodama to help turn them into peaceful spirits, that is as much a possibility to explore purifying the world. And realizing that Yokai may not have a second time surviving the same disaster again, Ryo and Nakagawa were able to confess their feelings in one way or another, exciting Kotone.

All's well that ends well, for Mutsumi, Jiro and everyone else.

This show is no mere simpleton, it's very heavy in emotion and feels, and wrecks your heart left, right, and center.
My ABSOLUTE honorable mention of a hidden gem/dark horse of the season.

Can this world ever return to normal?

The world has turned upside down, and the youkai born from the power of words are being defeated one by one: Buchio, Jirou, Yuri, Niji, and Wagen... Suddenly, Mutsumi, Takumi, and Ryo find themselves in a mysterious, empty space. In a space where the power of words have been lost, the power of those words must be reborn from the pure thoughts of the children. Just when all hope looks lost, when they start to recall all the memories and times they've spent and had with Buchio, Jirou, Yuri, Niji, and Wagen, they find themselves and awake in the real world once again.

Shit really hit the fan quickly and wastes no time. From what I can understand, anyone who's a youkai as they call them in this world, were dying (?), turning the world into the normal we know, where only humans live and not youkai. That scene where Buchio "died".. wtf dude. One that hit even harder was definitely Jirou's, as he just poofs away with Mutsumi holding him. Whoel scene where they were in that empty space was done so well. The power of their words saved not only the universe, but the youkai in the end. Glad that the relationship between nothingness and the oni was clarified. Glad that basically everyone got closure to their character as well.

The Monogatari-feel this show gives you is there, no doubt about it. The amount of emotion this show gives you is actually crazy to me.

Even still, this ending was really such a surprise, along with the show itself, you can't help but love it. MY dark horse of the season.

And so we end with the conclusion and aftermath of the great catastrophe, including checking in on all who were influenced by it, and getting life back to normal. Whatever that may mean.

So this series was definitely one that flew under my radar going in, but by the end it was probably my second favorite series of the Spring season. It managed to make me teary eyed nearly every week by the end there lol. A very tender series, emotionally moving and resonant. Not afraid to show the darker aspects of life, but not forgetting to show the brighter ones either. I'd have watched much more of these characters living their day to day lives if given the opportunity. Is there a better feeling or recommendation than that? Solid 8/10.

This was a beautiful and perfect ending to a fabulous show. All through the show I have loved seeing Buchio learn about interacting with humans and his emotions in his own innocent and pure way but most of all I have really enjoyed seeing the bond between Mutsumi and Jiro and the love they have for each other.

The intro scene between Buchio & Ayumu/Ma-chan was priceless.

I was kind of hoping for a time skip in which we see Jiro had stopped pining for and feeling guilty about a woman that was long since dead. Perhaps even have a femal tengu by his side and a baby. Grandpa needs a break. I was also hoping Taira and ... damn..the fox would start a relationship.

It's ultimately a coming-of-age story, and it's the kind that use macro-level event to drive the change in micro-level, but this time the macro has a very big scale. Imagine using multiverse collapse event to convince a boy to become a filmmaker or a girl to confess to her crush.

Perfect in every way. Characters, stories, drama, romance and even a bit of action. I expected something good because I like LIDENFILMS, but this anime exceeded all my expectations. 10/10.

This ended up being my favorite anime this season. Loved the concept of a slice of life Yokai series. Was kinda bummed that Sanmoto (The Demon King Yokai) didn’t seem to be make it back from the white place. Also enjoyed the final scene, a perfect spring show lead in to summer. I’d personally love to see more, but I guess with only four manga volumes produced this is the complete arc?

Sad to see this end. Potentially it can have infinite episodes, so it seems ok if it just ends here too, but I hope one day we'll get more.

So the disaster was actually resolved in 1 episode after all. It seems people in alternate-Japan had a shittier time.

Got to say I expected something more/different, but still a good show. ED is one of my top 5 favorites this season.

What a wet fart of a conclusion. The oni attack was randomly cause by the Fukushima disaster and it randomly ended too without any meaningful input from our characters

This went from the apocalypse to full Children of the Sea and 2001: A Space Odyssey. What a strange, daring show.

There was a lot of whiplash in terms of tone and story direction, and not everything was fleshed out very well, but it hit me in ways that actually matter, somehow. When Buchio was "leaving" I couldn't help but tear up.

Really loved this, but I think this is a good place to say goodbye to the series.

For the last time: we need more shows like this.

Excellent ending episode of an excellent series, through and through! Not expecting more seasons because I am not able to see how another season would add to the series. In my opinion, what the series has to offer us is done.

Mehh, it’s ok, but the beginning was better, I feel like something else could be greater cliffhanger, my favorite anime this season was train of the end of the world, salad bowl, the fable and kaiju 8 gou.

Update, I just finished the anime, the end was great, what in the fckng entropy was going on.

This was the big final episode. All the little moments that added up throughout the season have all come together perfectly. I cannot be any happier with how this show turned out in the end. I don't see how anyone could watch this show and not feel all sorts of emotions welling up in them. This is 100% the anime of the season for me.

Man this show dont miss,an amazing episode to close up an amazing series.Such a shame this show had very low score since the start and fell under the radar for most. Its easily deserved of more love, sleeper hit, dark horse, underrated, hidden gem or what have u is what it is.

Only thing that couldve improve it is an amazing production cuz the content itself was there already. Not to discredit tho,the production was really good especially nailed the emotional moments with perfect ost.Best LIDENFILMS show yet.Knew this show was somethin special from the trailers and it absolutely delivered.Had it as an 8.5 throughout the show but the finale bumped it to a
High 8/10 just short of 9.

Unfortunately though, one moderate-sized issue I did end up having with this series by the end was the amount of drama present and a feeling of reliance on it in all aspects as the series progressed and especially toward the end. Don't get me wrong - Drama is one of my most favorite genres, and I'm certainly not averse to its inclusion in virtually any series to some level or another, but it kind of became all about that quite quickly, moreso than I expected, and with this set of characters in particular, I still felt they would have worked better with a more iyashikei-esque direction for the series (which is the impression it gave off at first).

Let's hope this inspires the author to create another work inspired by this. The studio did an amazing job on this, art, animation, music, voice acting, everything was a solid 10/10, perfection. The story was a bit too fast paced to make a solid impact, but that's the unfortunate reality for most shows these days.

This show is such a hidden gem. I think manged to watch this in the stupidest way possible. I was initially drawn in just by the ridiculousness of Chiaki's appearance on the poster. I (mistakenly) didn't expect much from this show, so I just jumped around to every Chiaki scene to sob about the gay car. But then episode 12 came — suddenly the world was ending, Chiaki basically died, and I had zero context for any of it. It's hilarious just how lost I was. I genuinely thought the entire show was just slice of life until then.
So then I finally went back to the beginning and watched the entire show properly. I was really surprised at the quality and depth of the show honestly. I didn't expect so much existentialism. After marathoning everything, I caught up and watched ep 13 after it dropped.

I thought the resolution was too easy considering the magnitude of the disaster. But I guess this is how the manga went so... *shrug*

Anyway, I didn't expect to fall in love with a bird man, but I am definitely in love with the bird man.
According to in universe logic, if I think about Jiro really hard, I'll manifest him.
