Well, life isn't easy for Rentt especially as a skeleton now. It's going to take time for Rina to accept who he is but I think they'll work it out. Rina herself isn't weak but having a partner down there in that maze increases their chance of survival.

Kinda interesting that through all this, Rentt still hasn't lost much of his humanity, in terms of his personality.

A skeleton wearing a skeleton mask, incredibly meta.

Rentt, who achieved Existential Evolution from the weakest skeleton to a ghoul, continued to battle monsters with the aim of further evolution. In the midst of this, a new adventurer named Rina arrives at the Labyrinth of the Reflected Moon. In a dire situation during a battle with monsters, Rina is astonished to discover that the ghoul who helped her is Rentt, the adventurer. Despite this revelation, she takes on the task of procuring clothing for Rent, who expresses a desire to return to the city of Malt, their home base.

Boy, Rentt really hit the jackpot with the person that saved him and he saved I guess. She's giving him a shot, and she's not just smart, but kind of smart—maybe not in the whole survival as an adventurer department, considering the situation he found her in, but definitely sharp when it comes to connecting the dots. Like, she thought ahead, brought a mirror, and even got him a mask to subtly shape people's perception of him as a "safe" undead once he reveals his true identity. So, there's this guy who once played a crucial role in the city's prosperity, and now, he's turned into a monster. Talk about a stroke of bad luck... *sigh*...

But the silver lining? He can hit the road again, all thanks to rescuing a knight's daughter.

Really immersed in this series characters focus story.

I really like Rentt character, really down to earth and not overly optimistic, thankful of helping hands and won’t burden others needlessly. Plus he got the finest drip out of all other MCs this season.

Rina is so kind..
Thanks to Rentt's help, she's still alive.
I'll just add her to his future harem... XD (I'm just shipping them, haven't read the LN)
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

That cursed mask doesn't seem to have any negative effects other than not being able to be taken off, so maybe it just slowly starves the wearer? In that case, our ghoul friend should be pretty safe wearing it.

Another okay episode, Rina's a nice girl. She helped him a lot even though she was scared. Wonder if there's any secret behind the mask. Anyway hoping to see more of her. Also Rentt finally went to see Lorraine. Happy that we gonna have more of her.

Those sure are some fat gobs though. While transforming into a ghoul gained him muscle its nice to see him get some hair as well. Guess there's bad apples in every profession. To be able to cleave a skel in two is impressive. But still Rina must had been equally scared and puzzled by Rentt's interaction. Nice to see Ikumi and Sayumi reunite from their time on Bocchi together. The new clothes though really gave off a badass image though. The mask especially. It was nice seeing Rentt bond with Rina. Curious whether Lorraine can do anything to help though.

YUUUUP! censorship!
it's done! dropping!
i'm not even joking! i'll go read the manga.. my interest in this show is officially over. want this "anime original" series have it your way!
but i' not having a 2nd catastrophe like the promised neverland, or EVERYTHING from the cursed "2016 spring syndrome" where ALL THE SHOWS NO EXCEPTION STARTED GREAT AND ENDED TRASH ...
final verdict 2 episodes in , dropped, rating 1/10, reason: censorship.
i'm not watching a source material get vandalized like this
for me this trash has ended. game over. didn't even bother to finish the episode, once the censorship came out, it's officially fraud marketing and vandalism. we're done!

That masks curse was pretty convenient. Understandable that Rina looked a bit scared at first but she's a really good girl. Wonder now how Lorraine will help him and what's the next stage after being a ghoul? Might have missed it if they mentioned it in the first episode.

I'm starting to get hyped. Tbh, I don't know if it's gonna be good till the end of the season, but at least these 1sd eps were fire, i'ma definitely continue watching!!

Rina is such a nice person, she helped him a lot. And even though the mask she gave him was cursed, it actually turned to be a temporary good thing.

However, bro has a long journey until evolving into a vampire or something like that...

- i don't think Rina was going to die to that skeleton, but sure lol
- nice of her to "repay her debt" for his help by buying clothes and helping him get out
- would you rather stay a weak human or die and turn into a strong golem? lol
- that was a funny way to en the episode, with Loraine being sleepy, then scared, then relieved and then worried :D

wonder what's next, this was a nice episode

@kernel99 this guy is extremely upset that Rina's character design was altered to make her stomach covered. That's all. He was crying about it in another thread, I'm beginning to wonder if we're all just falling for a troll.

For a number of reasons, and I saw it mentioned by some other users previously as well in different instances, the series this one most closely reminds me of are So I'm a Spider, So What? (particularly the first episode even moreso than this latest one, due to the solo monster/non-human character just making the rounds in a dungeon/cave trying to increase their power level and evolve or be able to get out by just methodically killing other monsters in a grueling routine one after another) and Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash. The latter because of the average at best (apart from innate magical abilities, maybe even below average in terms of physical strength and swordsmanship) power of the main character, and that despite it still obviously being a very serious life or death situation for the main character where their own life was turned upside down by sudden radical unforeseen circumstances ("dying" here vs. being isekai'd into the Grimgar world), it still somehow manages to have a pretty relaxed feel. Even the way the town is portrayed visually gives off that kind of aura or vibe of being a gated oasis of civilization tucked away in the mountains and the folks he has previously established relationships with (from before the events being portrayed in the series) seem earnest and nice enough.

The ED especially really sells that mood to it further. Very calming regardless of whatever the preceding events contained in the episode were, feels like going through a mini series of paintings, and in some way somehow makes the town feel like it exists on the edge of the world or partly in a dream.

So I'll continue with this. Even though I'm aware now that it isn't an isekai, that it most closely resembles to me two of the isekai I was fondest of, So I'm a Spider So What? and Grimgar (after episode two I'm leaning more in the Grimgar direction) is enough to satisfy. I don't necessarily anticipate it being in any top lists for series of the year for me, but shows like this sometimes have a way of surprising you.

Wouldn’t be a skeleton anime without a cute sidekick who helps the MC out of a pinch. Rina competing for best girl of the season already. Rentt really ran into the perfect person at the perfect time.

It must have felt so good to finally have someone to talk to down there after all that time alone. Then for her to come bring him clothes and help him out of the dungeon, infinite headpats deserved.

The Dr. Doom mask was a nice touch lol. I wonder if it has any negative side effects to it in order to make it unremovable.

For now, it’s good to see Rentt back on the surface and reunited with Lorraine. I like the character driven focus of the first two episodes and am curious to see where this goes!

This anime has been a nice surprise so far. Definitely a slower pace than what I was expecting, but I find myself invested in the characters and the story. Might not be the anime of the season or anything, but definitely interested to see where it goes.

And I thought the design of the "dragon" from the first episode was just brilliant. Definitely one of the freakier interpretations I have seen. I am hoping it portends well for other creative decisions down the road...

We finally met one of the main babes of the show, being Rina, I know there’s been some criticism about slightly changing her design in the anime but I don’t think we’re missing much not seeing her belly lol. It was nice to see her introduction, she nearly lost to a boney boy but got saved by our resident fleshy boney boy Rentt lol, she was understandably shook but it was kinda funny how Rennt was trying his best to talk to her, and it resulted in Rentt getting clothes to conceal his corpsey form from Rina which was good, but she ended up buying a cursed mask that’s now stuck to Rentt’s face, at least it looks cool lol, it reminds me a lot of the death masks from the first Resident Evil game.

And then came time to get back into town, and Rina convincing the guards that Rentt was a burn victim was quite hilarious but also genius lol, they got thoroughly finessed. Rentt unfortunately left Rina as he was afraid she’d leave him as others have in the past, at least this was part of the reason, but now he’s made it to a friend of his when he was a human, Lorraine, and surprisingly she wasn’t that shocked when she first encountered Rentt’s new form lol, I look forward to seeing what she has to say about the matter. And lastly, I just have to point out how phenomenal that ED is again, need more like this one in my life!

This is really becoming quite good.
It makes me think that the dragon he encountered is a holy-type one which undead-ifies any human it kills.

This really feels kind of similar to the webtoon manga titled 'Undead King'.

short cool fights, like how each sword swing show impact, technique, dodges etc, makes it more intense than those game isekai grinding.
like mc is not op, but cautious & thinks over stats/strategy.
Rentt & Rina cautious but so wholesome along the calming ED.

Idk why but as ppl have said their disliking for this show for me I like it it’s so calm and chill and not too crazily over the top, the action is good but tame so far and the characters in the town are chill asf I’d expected them to be the hateful cliche where they bully the weak adventurer yk so it’s nice to see this anime go the different route imo👍🏽

Wow, this might be my dark horse of the season.

The slow progression from saving Rina to parting ways was really well paced. No bullshit power leveling rush, no insta love him because he's the mc, the whole backstory of Rina being from out of town hence why she wasn'ty someone Rent knew and why she's weaker than the average adventurer (that's some good chekov's gun groundwork). I even liked a lot the thought process of Rent entering the city thru a less crowded gate to avoid being recognized.

I do hope there's some backstory later on towards the cursed mask or at least justification for how common these are in this world.

I really liked how Rina & Rent relationship grew up on pure gratitude from both ends. It was also bittersweet and well thought of Rent to run away to avoid getting her roped in a bigger scandal. Looking forward to their next meetup.

a very good episode! quite surprised that boukensha girl Rina easily trusted a ghoul just because the ghoul can communicate but it was alright for me! at least not draggin' unlike some plot wherein all people treat you like a terrorist or monstah..hahah...i wanna know why others are saying Lorraine was a bit censored compared to the source material....hmmm

I'm confused, is this show supposed to make you feel sad? Does anyone else feel sad or emotional while watching this? Coz I definitely felt a rush of sadness, mostly when Rentt was introducing himself to that newbie adventurer Rina and at the end when he revealed his situation to his acquaintance Loraine... I did not really cry or something, just felt sad while looking at his state...

Well, it's not listed as a drama series, but that doesn't mean that non-drama anime can't and don't ever have dramatic moments. Obviously it's a sad and frightful situation for the main character, so if you feel the weight of his situation conveyed and the accompanying sadness then it probably just means you're an empathetic person and are getting properly immersed.

Interesting looking Mask...

But... if it's cursed, doesn't that mean he won't ever be able to take it off?

Meaning he can never eat or kiss....

LOL @ Rina "EH?" LOL

She FK'd up.

.

Well, Rina sorta got ditched... LOL, she's gonna be so worried for a couple of days.

Also, the ED felt kinda sad right after Rentt reveals his hands. (cause it gives a feeling that he may never become a human, possibly, since I don't think Monsters can become Humans, just Human-like appearances)

Slower paced, absolutely okay with this.
Interesting concepts. I find it a bit odd that the guards didn't know who he was as he has been in the boons for how long eeking out a living?

Oh well minor inconsistences nothing major against it. Show still interesting.

I will add the 3D dungeon walls are a bit obnoxious to look at constantly. But it looks like we're out of there now.

Really loved the second episode. Surprisingly hit alot of feels for me, when Rentt got emotional about the girl coming back for him and also helping him get into the town. He seems to have trust issues and abandonment PTSD.. yet he ghosts the girl himself, lol. Didn't expect much of this anime and pleasantly surprised so far.
