Miyo would cooperate had they reached out to her earlier, she would have clung to anyone who showed her kindness and love.
A little too late, she already chose Kiyoka, that's just how it is.

This started out with such promise only to disintegrate into telling the story of the most pathetic, whiniest anime character in all of anime history (and God I hate the voice acting for Miyo -- want to scream every time she opens her annoying mouth). From Episodes 9 onwards, I hate this anime so much. So disappointing.

So grandpa wasn't a bad guy all this time and now wants to play to the house after all the suffering mother and daughter went through? Uh?
I didn't really pay attention to the OST until this episode, those two tracks were stunning omggg.
Lastly, since there's only one episode left, I think it will left as a cliffhanger, that or it'll be a rushed ending. But I'm not sure since I don't read the original source.

Well things just keep getting worse for Kudo. This has been great for his development though. Let's hope my man can stop catching Ls. Also this Emperor is up to no good is Miyo gotta say there. Good to learn more about her mom and the way they animated that child birth....wow nice attention to detail

I'm not sure what on earth happened to this show. Miyo completely disregarded the relationship buildup with Kudo in the last episode where she essentially abandoned her fiancé for strangers who had previously abandoned her until she could prove her abilities. It took a bizarre and uncomfortable turn with an incestuous storyline. Miyo seems to have regressed back to where she started, and this episode was disappointing, as the oddities overshadowed what should have been compelling moments.

The episode was great. As with any good show, revelations about characters' past --Sumi in this case-- leave more questions and increase the interest of the viewer... and that's precisely the problem. How can good writing be a problem? Easy: one episode left. I'm 99% sure that we'll have to wait for season 2 to watch all that development foreshadowed by this amazing episode.

Kind of goes without saying why Sumi put her family first and married into Saimori’s. But I’m also guessing she was fully aware of what those in the Saimori family wanted from this marriage. And yet she kept Miyo’s powers hidden and sealed them away, although the intentions might be rational, but it did nothing good to Miyo through all those years.

Moreover, I’m not buying at all how overprotective-kun and Miyo’s grandfather aren’t even allowing Miyo to meet Kiyoka, giving “we the family and we the ones you should love” logic. If they were so loving, they should’ve come with this same aggressive manner even a bit ago lol. Apologies and “we always loved you” speeches won’t cut it for the negligence.

Heck, even worse we always knew it was Arata who was involved with that foul lookin old man, though we can worry about that later as for now it's Kiyoka who's quite literally hanging between life and death, so of course they gonna ask Miyo to finally make use of her abilities, and bring him to life.
@Softhenic03 I think her mother's actions were justified and probably worked out well long term. If they knew of Mio's powers, she would have suffered as their supernatural workhorse and it also would give the Saimori family power that only the Usoba family has, which could lead to some pretty bad ends. She would've suffered long term without the seal, so at least she was saved from that fate.

"In the end, we are a family related by blood. If anything happens to you, we will come to help and support you." What? What did that grandfather just say? All this time Miyo was mistreated by the Saimori family they turned a blind eye. What nonsense.

Sumi's past was so sad. Back then she had no one but Miyo, and she loved her so much. But fate said otherwise, she couldn't take care of Miyo until she grew up and died when Miyo was very young. If it's like this, I don't know if her death brought bad things, or if it freed her from all her burdens... but either way, it really makes me sad. I want Sumi to see Miyo living happily with Kiyoka, to see how the child she loved so much, took care of, and was the only family she had at the time got married out of love. I hope Sumi can see that from heaven when that time comes ❤

A little complaint, I hope Miyo can be a little, just a little stubborn (〒﹏〒) when her grandfather told her and when Arata insistently told her about the Mikado and its effect on all of them, I wish Miyo could be a little stubborn (like shouting at him or anything) to meet Kiyoka, instead of responding with "eh..?" or "uh.." and looking lost. I know she's confused and panicked, but isn't it precisely because she's shocked and panicked and desperately wants to see her husband that she should have a different reaction than usual? But I knew it was just an unnecessary rant, because they met in the end.

And Arata, you can protect her without locking her up in the Usuba family home. Please stay as her cousin because you can never be her husband.

Please...
A whole episode trying to portray Arata and the grandfather as loving and caring family members when they explicitly said last episode that they decided to reach out to Miyo only because of her awakened SRR+ spiritual ability. Come on, who is this author trying to fool?

And why spending a whole episode reminding us of how rare, special and dangerous Miyo's power is if glasses dude was gonna shit on those aspects and talk about it in a room full of strangers? What happened to "keep it a secret from people outside the Usuba family"?

I think Arata actually cares about Miyo but he is was more infatuated with her seeing her as his salvation in him wanting to be her saviour till he began to realize his error and realize he can't be loved by her so he can't provide everything for her. He actually seems like a character that you could feel sorry for. The grandfather is more iffy and hard to read though. While he probably isn't such a bad guy otherwise Sumi wouldn't have gone out of her way to basically sell herself off for his sake, he knew where Miyo was and didn't make any attempts to retrieve her till knowing her ability was awakening and even that wasn't even his plan so he too seems to be selfish and just loves Miyo in the sense that he sees her as like getting his daughter back that which he regretted not doing so. Did he this whole time know that Miyo was being abused or only up till right when her powers started to awaken did anyone investigate this? Why did he not go to Miyo? Was he ashamed so he felt he didn't deserve to and he just didnt know know? Or did he know but just did not care? It seems the timeline and feelings is a little unclear here on what he has been doing all this time. Well at least Arata stepped up and saw through it helping to get Miyo to Kiyoka and the old man went along with it too knowing it is breaking all the rules so he must care about her in some way it just is really inconsistent. I think the only way to make sense of this is this information wasn't found out until later after Miyo was about to leave the Saimori home, or am I missing something where it was actually mentioned when the surveillance started? I had a feeling Miyo's ability would be brought up as something to help Kiyoka.

Huh!? Now I understand what I dislike about this anime (not talking about the LN though). It focuses too much on the wrong things. From what I heard, the LN has a lot of characters interanl monologues featured (especially Miyo's), which was missing from the anime. On the other hand we have Arata suddenly changes his heart from someone obsessive to suddenly supportive out of nowhere. Maybe, the LN has somekind of build up that would justify his character's inconsistensies here.

Watashi wa Shiawase na Kekkon is clearly supposed to be a slow build up title, that's why the anime focuses too much on the supernaturals instead of the characters interactions is not the best decision. Example: You can really make a 12 EPs of Fruits Basket with entirely only its plot points involving Akito. But the main selling point of Fruits Basket is about Tohru's interactions with the other Zodiacs, not Akito's. Likewise, the meat of this title is supposed to be Miyo and her struggles to attain happiness, but somehow they decided that the whole Usuba and grotesqueries business are more important and focuses more on that instead. The mentality that slow titles are boring, and more plot heavy titles are better doesn't always work, especially for really-really character heavy titles like this.

The original LN might be actually great though, with how they might make us relate to the characters through slow bulid ups, especially Miyo. But since the anime decided grotesqueries would sell more to battle-shounen and Kimetsu no Yaiba's fans (despite this is clearly originally supposed to be an SoL shoujo title), we've got this instead.

I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

It was sooo f*cking frustrating to watch. The Usuba family is the same as the Saimori. Only looking for her and claiming family relations, when she has an ability. If the Usuba blood is oh so precious, they should have took her in much sooner, but at least before the engagement. And I know that our dear heroine is a broken mess, but pleeease how can you not see, that the Usuba also only values you now. If your ability did not manifest, they would not have cared about you AT ALL. Grrr

This anime never fails to disappoint. This week:-

  • Miyo's grandfather takes her to the tree, so she can see the "family" history
  • They were in debt
  • Saimori family repeatedly offered to pay off the debts in exchange for marriage to an Usuba girl
  • Miyo's mom was sickly, and accepted the bargain, much to Miyo's Grandfathers' consternation, to "keep the family solvent."
  • Saimori just wanted the Usuba blood, so he quickly got Miyo's mother pregnant
  • Miyo's mother then "sealed" Miyo's Dream Walker powers using the tree, before succumbing to her illness before having a 2nd child.
  • Miyo's "family" is only supposed to marry each other (uh ... isn't this ... incest??) to keep the "bloodline powers" within the family.
  • Creepy cousin is her protector, but wants WAY more, clearly giving off kissing cousins vibes.
  • Kudo is injured fighting grotesqueries
  • Miyo defies her family and after some ... drama, goes to him. Can she wake him??

Lovely art as always, I'm still a little "ick"'d out by the whole family incest thing with the whole close relative marriage, it reminds me uncomfortably of the Egyptian Pharoahs and Targaryens, you know, Incest Royalty. So there is historical precedent for this type of thing, but still, how can they keep doing this? What if in the process of trying to "breed" the gift they end up with some ... "handicapped" scion?

Has a great story line that gives you all the emotions there is & I love rewatching them over & over. There should be more shows that have a similar love story where they gradually fall in love & not rushed there is ups & downs like in normal relationships. One of the best shows there is & can't wait for more episodes. LOVE My Happy Marriage.

What a dumb 180 the grandfather pulled lol. He leaves his granddaughter to rot in her abusive situation only caring when it's found she has powers. Then he pretends to care about her and decides to support whatever she wants. Character makes no sense, last weeks episode makes no sense. Why not just approach Miyo as kind family from the beginning if you're truly sorry. Why the smoke and mirrors and antagonistic approach when in the next breath you release her and "love" her as family. Can't say I'm loving this arc.

Why doesn't Miyo ever fight back or stand up for herself? She's too indecisive because she's scared of having an opinion which I find to be very annoying. I truly feel bad for Sumi and her horrible past. Its very sad. Its also gross that Arata, the cousin, wants to marry Miyo. Like y'all are related, don't be gross. If the family cared so much about Miyo, why didn't they ever intervene when she was living with her father?

That clears things up.

The family business was in trouble, then another family offered to take care of the debts. (with strings attached, of course.) The family did not want Miyo's mother to go through the loveless marriage just to save the family, but she went to anyway because she felt it's her duty to do so.

The Saimori family went to all the trouble just becaue they want the Usaba family's gift. Miyo's mother denied them that by sealing Miyo's gift.

No wonder everyone of the Saimori clan was abusive.

A touching moment at the end: Miyo's mother wanted Miyo to use her gift of her own volition. This episode is big on highlighting a mother's love to her children.

All this talk about Arata and the rest of Usaba being selfish pricks vanished in this episode. Yes, they made a deal with the Emperor and they'll have to deal with that sooner or later. Then again, there's politics involved. It's easy to judge how things could've been different if X has been done rather than Y, but too often we can be blind to that when we face certain circumstances. That I think is what happened to the Usaba.

So in this episode, the Usaba and Arata were able to redeem themselves.

Now it's time for the finale.

Ah yes, the episode where we are supposed to sympathize with the Usuba and forget that just last episode, they literally admitted they only wanted her now because she has awakened her gift and was content with her living in suffering in the past because she didn't have a gift. Like wtf? who buys this crap?
