What's the point of releasing a spin off from a series that is getting rebooted? Also, why did the show even need to be rebooted?

Actually....Reboot kinda makes sense...because the studio did skipped a lot of material in the previous adaptation....but I also don't know about the Spin-Off adaptation.

The original announcement actually said 再始動, which means something like they're opening/starting the "anime project" again. Which could mean anything animated, but due to the context back then, most fans (including me) thought we were getting a reboot.
Judging by the current announcement, however, I'm pretty sure that this is the new anime project we're getting. [Edit: now I'm also noticing that it says this is 第一弾 (a first shot/entry) of the anime project, which could mean that we'll be getting more stuff in the future. Not to be too hopeful, but TBHK is still extremely popular in Japan.]
As everyone knew, the series is pretty new, so aside from plot and production reasons (the production is really good tho?), there isn't much meaning to a reboot. Getting the spin-off animated instead makes a lot of sense.

Btw, as a fan of the original TBHK manga, Houkagou Shounen is hilarious! (just went to buy the volume today, actually) We get to see a large part of the cast getting into stupid but funny scenarios. Despite being a 4koma spin-off, it's pretty interesting, and definitely something that I'm looking forward to!

would rather see an Ova with the skipped material (like Horimyia piece) than a new one all over again. the first season wasnt even bad. good animation, good artstyle, its not like they had anything to improve on those categories... reboot seems unnecessary, at least imo

My guess is spin off AND annoncement for Season 2 or Reboot at the end of After-School Hanako-kun

the reboot makes a lot of sense, since they deleted literally half of the manga for the anime but the spin-off? idk

Why do this? Isn't this project having a new reboot what ever they are going to do. So why made this? Cash grab? It sounds like it. S1 was okay-ish, it was original, fresh and it should be continued.

Not re-started for cash grabbing or whatever reason(s) they may think they have for doing so.
Me every time I hear the word "reparations": 🤣🤣🤣

The fact some people still think the new project is a reboot really leaves me with no hopes for the MAL user base, they literally never said it was one.

TBH, You can't blame them, since the announcement wasn't that clear lol
I just hope that the reboot/season 2/whatever will adapt the young exorcist arc too. The 3 clock keepers arc is basically the most important arc so far, so it will surely be animated in season 2, but the young exorcist arc is important for Kou's development and his friendship with Hanako.

Anyway, Can't wait to watch the animated spin-off. The chapters are pretty funny

If Horimiya was made with everything instead of making the skipped content later Horimiya would be a better Anime imo.

If they are restarting an anime because the original skipped important arcs, that is literally what a reboot is. Reboot, restart, remake, call it whatever you want they are the same thing.

horimiya piece feels refreshing tbh, there isnt a story to be made or to develop since that already happened, we just see fragments of character's lives (hence why the title "pieces") that usually is a huge turn off for me cause i hate those boring slice of life shows, but the characters are so charismatic and the comedybis so genuine thatbit just works, and the score proves it (since its higher than s1's), usually ovas/seasons extend a show's popularity and how long it remains on someone's head, great shows with a single season are usually forgotten left behind and u need something reminding u it existed and that u liked it (aot is a case where that was done to the extreme), but i understand ppl that would rather have a single title all done in a go.

But that's not what they said LOL. They never said they were restarting the series, just production, which isn't remotely the same thing.

im probably wrong but it really feels like they're using restart as in they're starting to work again on the project as a whole and not exactly starting from anew though. as for the important plot points they skipped, its quite possible they might do what they did with shadows house and re-work the plot in the anime to get to where the manga is going but again i might be wrong
either way this is great news!

This has been the general consensus between the community as well, they will animate those episodes that the original anime skipped and then keep up with the manga. However, this was not what they said, so considering how broad their statement was, it is better to assume they will just restart the anime than continue where they left off.

yeah i suppose its best to assume that, it might be too confusing/complicated to figure how to work the rest of the plot and depending on how it goes it might confuse people. a clean start might just be better. guess we'll just have to wait and see

@missslauraa I read, they said they're restarting anime production, which means that they're working on the anime again (this is LITERALLY how most studios announce new seasons/movies), not that it's a reboot.

@Ionliosite2 every single news about it called it a restart, yet you were perplexed at the idea of people believing it could be a restart/reboot of the anime. 2+2. It's not farfetched to believe it could be or could've been, whether that ends up being the case or not.

@Ionliosite2 specially with the fact that when they announced this spin-off, they remarked it to be the first project/installment.

@missslauraa Because they said it's a restart... of production, ie, the work on the anime that was stopped is now continuing again. People just took it the wrong way and started saying it was a reboot when that was never stated, because they were indeed vague on what form said new product would be, but given that a spin-off to it is the first part of the restart, it's clear that reboot is out of the window, why make a spin-off of something you'd be remaking shortly after?

@Ionliosite2 yes, and you are probably right, but do you see it as incredible that people believed it was a reboot? and given that they are hinting there is going to be another announcement, to think the restart still means reboot? it probably isnt, but is it THAT farfetched?

Firstly, the studio doesn't frankly state it's reboot but instead say "restart".
Personally I don't think restart refer to reboot by redoing the first season.
Secondly, by knowing that the restart is a projects that consists of this side story and new anime, we don't know what kind of new anime is
Thirdly, restart can be rearrange of the previous season and additional story from the chapter they left. or it can be 2nd season start with unadapted chapter and then straight up to next arc after season 1.
So, restart here is not necessarily a reboot or redoing all of the season 1.
We can wait until this side story end and expect further confirmation about this officially
