Heh, Max's reactions this episode were comedy gold. He does have his sense of pride after all and it seems the show established a rival for him.

Fred also seems like a foil character compared to him so I expect the two to have a lot of rivalries this season.

Love that someone finally acknowledged the closet ghost, and that it was so hilarious 😂 Wonder if it's the ghost of one of their previous travelling companions (?) but will have to wait and see. Favourite episode so far!

Max companion Leo was focused a lot this episode and Fred his other companion made his appearance and there is also the mystery of the ghost. Lot of story is there to uncover.

Hm I'd think Fred would have noticed that. He is a cleric after all and there was no hint of him knowing the ghost. On the other hand maybe he did and that's why he got so frightened?

Would be a funnier twist if it was something entirely different me thinks though.

So it looks like both Max and Maou cannot see the ghost but Fred, the Cleric, can (btw what happened to Zenia in this episode?)

Interesting theory regarding that maybe the ghost is from their female group member, regardless if its her or not I'm thinking they'll talk about the 4th member at some point.

Fred is a loser. Who would even consider snitching on their former party member like that. Glad everything worked out in the end. Episode was alright. No Zenia fanservice so it loses some points, but a decent episode. Did like the Max flashbacks to his hero days a lot.

Lol, the fact that only Fred can see the ghost was an unexpected twist for sure. Considering how the OP showcased her reaction to Fred, do you think she might be the lady party member?

Regardless, the plot has taken a much more serious turn than I initially anticipated. I never imagined rebellion and blackmail would be part of the things to expect from this show. It’s definitely keeping me on the edge of my seat!

Everyone is talking about the ghost or the blackmail but I think the most interesting part of this is that it's clear Fred genuinely respects Max and in some way does care about him.
His comments about how he deserves better than the "shitty little apartment" he's in, makes that obvious.

Yeah, them completely skipping chapter 5 is rather worrisome although I'm pretty sure that they have to adapt it later on as that's the chapter where Maou shows Max the "long haired human girl" disguise.

Personally I'm more worried about them skipping the chapter where Max and Fred try to drug each other as this adaptation seems to be rather censored (wich is odd as for example Ginama had no issues showing off Gintokis gambling addiction).

I did just realize the OP for this show is fire

Wow.. it started off a little strange with that magic stuff (I was so worried they were going to lurch into In-World Magic rules) it really came together as a solid episode. We learned a whole lot more about all the characters that used to be Max's comrades, and even some of the conflicts going on that drove them apart. Maou fulfilled the role of the audience this time, hearing this information for the first time yet even with this background role he never felt absent and still brightened the scene with his adorable charm. Zenia was only spoken of third hand, yet she still played a huge role in the events since it's now what the local tabloids are talking about- when she went crazy chasing Max around town last time. We even learned the nature of the ghost in the closet- no spoilers though. Felt a lot closer to everyone in this show with this episode.

Max's scandals looked to be headline news so Fred must have noticed how haunted he was by the media and that he couldn't handle it. Also Fred's blackmail came after he knew how Max lived and his comment about Max running out of funds.
Granted anime have its own logic so you can absolutely be right. I'm just saying I find it hard to see that Fred cares about Max so far.

Fred's blackmail is very understandable. No argument there. What bugs me is that the show seems to hint at Fred not being a bad person and it's doing it worse than usual so it's confusing.

It was nice to see how the tri-bros first came to be. It was kind of sad how they drifted away from each other but it seems there is still that bond existing within them.

I am pleasantly surprised by this episode. The first two installments were fun and funny. Episode three put some plot into the story. Rating went up a notch and am eager to see more of Max and the gang.
