-Xenophon- said: technically every anime character in existence is an NPC since anime aren't video games with playable characters my guy.The episode wasn't perfect but it was almost good, I disliked the amount of focus and effort put in killing the sick girl to make us feel pain, like if somebody with a bit of reason will care about a 1 episode NPC, though combined with the suicide scene, it makes a decent after punch. Still makes me sad that I.G took this level of production for a so far mediocre show like this when there are better quality mangas out there that deserve an adaptation of this quality, just a waste of resources if you ask me. And yes, killing the NPC is a very cheap trick that works in sentimental weaklings, wannabe's and the pseudos, that's the same people who get struck by episodes by subpar shows like Mushishit, Natsume, Kino no Tabi (the worse one), SnL, etc... The specialists about this topic know what I'm talking about, that weird fixation of the wannabe's. On the other hand, the show is getting more interesting and taking itself more seriously in the couple of last episodes, the plot is moving a bit more clearly and some important information has been confirmed, it doesn't feel anymore like your usual mediocre Girl's Last Tour and alike SoL, sadly I think we will back to the teenager melodrama of "Paradise" and thus the quality will drop, yet I really hope the show follows this path and matures into a more adult version of himself, anyways 7.1/10. PD: The suicide scene was destroyed by Maru stupid whining, it was pathetic. Even if the girl is Mimihime, there is not any emotional attachment yet, she is still a NPC. |

That end scene really making it clear for anyone missing all the pointers that it was Mimihime and Shiro, aha. Pretty sad she could "see" everything that was to happen but glad she (seemingly) couldn't remember it afterwards. It makes me wonder then, if Maru is a descendant from Tokio meaning that the other kids affected (like the King of Hotels' girl) are descendants from the ones in the facility as well. Also, pretty random but the fish monster from a few episodes prior, could it then have been the Tsuyu look a like? |

If they hadn't involved themselfs none of this may have happened or at least it wouldn't be on them. Having to live with the idea that you made things worse for people can be rough and people cope with that differently. Also I think this may be Marus first "human" kill as well so propably has some weight as well. |

This Episode is so depression, after a few of seggs episode before lol. Like bro, why Usami-sensei should kill himself?? That's just not a way to handling the depression of losing someone. Also you're doctor so you can think more mature and experience before decide to do something crazy like this. Oh I understand, you're a still normal japanese man. You also honestly said that you're not doctor. Pretty logic, you have nobody to live for, you don't have anything to do in future. Even so many people need his help. He is not a robot after all, can't handling stress and depression at the same time. That's not a bad option tought. This anime sometimes pretty weird and complicated because of two main story at the same episode, and also flashback or hallucination that suddenly appear without even know or notice it. Today also kinda gore today lol. okay that's it goodbye! 10/10 :) |

It's not like she can see everything, she has visions, and she probably can't understand most of what she sees. Interpreting the future shouldn't be easy, but makes me think, if while in that bed if she at some point started to wait for Maru and Kiruko to arrive to kill her. I say this because someone remembered that back in episode 1 Mimihime commented to Tokio about a vision she had when they where talking about the existence of an "outside". She says to Tokio that when she thinks about "wishing to go outside" she sees two people going to help her go outside (and one looking like Tokio). I imagine her stuck to that bed, on that dark room, wishing to go out and see the sun. This long and strong desire probably could helped her past self project this feeling into a more clear vision back in the past. Sad. But what she could see was only her desire, not was behind that desire. |

This episode is the reason why I watch anime. The animation is so well done, the music pulls it together and you really feel the emotions of every character and this episode really highlights every aspect. It's hard to say but when you see Maru and Kiruko wince and look away when they first see Hoshio looking so broken, its a knee jerk reaction that we all do. This episode really conveys all the emotions and Maru turning away in pity, in disgust (and feeling guilt of having felt that way), in fear and unsure how he feels. You really get the turmoil he's going through and then actually having to face reality and knowing what needs to be done is so so heavy. I'll also say the music composer of this episode blows Hans Zimmer out the water, it's ridiculously good. This a masterpiece, so emotional so well done. By far this is my favourite episode of an anime I've seen in years. |

I want to tell you to never consume any media ever again so that nobody will need to see your opinions in print after today, but that would be a bit of a dick move. Instead, I'm going to humiliate you. Taking a Human life is a big deal, both in media and in real life. It takes a real psychopath to see another Human life and think nothing of snuffing it out. Maru had discovered only an episode ago that he could reach into Human's and potentially kill them. That was a confusing experience that planted a seed of curiosity into him. In this episode, he has confirmation on that curiosity, and it is clearly weighing on him. If Hiruko are just Human's who have been mutated by a disease, then is he not just killing people without hesitation? Up until this point, his understanding was that the Hiruko were just monsters that existed, a fact of life to be handled when it showed itself. Now, he has two new burdens: 1) these are people he is killing, and 2) nothing besides a merciful death can save them. I also shouldn't need to address the fact that only an episode ago we were told that what is behind that curtain is probably something horrifying, only for it to instead be the embodiment of Human suffering. Production IG has a sordid history, so I think adapting a story like this that knows its emotional moments fairly well and has so far been written well has paid off for them. Although, the fact you call Mushishi "shit" removes all value your opinion has beyond this point. Imagine thinking a narrative about a traveling "oddity killer" non-violently dealing with oddities in our world and spreading tolerance for these natural things is somehow bad.Just what? The show has taken itself seriously since the first scene. If you had bothered paying attention, the show has done a terrific job in writing and animation of presenting a world after a disaster and of a dystopian pre-disaster world. It balances two narratives really well by splicing the two together. It's up to you to apply the smallest effort in critical thinking to interpret what is being shown. What are you even talking about with a more "adult version" of itself? Maru and Kiruko are already displaying more adult thinking than you have so far. Maru is now fully conscious of his situation and is heartbroken by the revelation. Kiruko is clearly struggling with their identity as a person and the feelings they're developing for Maru. The complexity these two possess is apparently too much for you to comprehend, and I doubt anyone could convey it in a manner so reductive as to make it easier for you understand. PD: Maru was crying because the suicide had finally broken him. He was already barely holding it together under the burden of the revelation as to what Man-Eater's were and what his power was likely meant for.He thought he had done something good for Dr Umari and hey, maybe the doctor could start over. Instead, two lives were ended by him. It doesn't matter if Maru only took one life. It was the fact that the doctor felt so hopeless that he decided dying was better than moving on. Of course Maru is going to cry and whine about his "gift." As far as he is concerned, he's trivialized Human lives without knowing and now has to shoulder that guilt for the rest of his life. You try doing all that and tell me how your emotional state is afterwards. |

So the tables have turned and the Immortal Order are the good guys now. The disease is making people turn into Man-Eaters! Poor Maru. This also may mean that the person who told him to go and find "Heaven" has turned into one too. The button Usami was holding in his hands had the same Logo as Kiruko's gun. Interesting. I think the scene indicates that Mimihime is infected now. There must be a person at that facility that deliberately makes them sick or something. phantomfandom said: Hold up you might be onto something. It's almost a confirmation that the event in isolated facility is from the past, the doctor and his special patient might be children from that facility. Dude gave up his eye just so she wouldn't have to be stuck in darkness, he would probably give up his whole body if he knew it would save her. Which makes me think of the Doctor, Kiriko would 100% do the same for Haru, maybe she was closer to the Doctor than Haru and Robin knew and asked him to swap their brains? The Doctor doing so, but unable to bear the grief of losing someone close to him, he left so he wouldn't be reminded of it? |

Yep, now it's 100% official. The facility storyline is indeed taking place in the past as Mimihime's dream confirms she and Shiro were, in fact, Dr. Usami and his wife/girlfriend. Not to mention Dr. Usami and Shiro also share the same VA but let's ignore that detail. So Mimihime's power is to be able to have premonitory dreams, huh? That would explain her weird dialogues: "being saved by someone with Tokio's face" (Maru putting an end to her life in a merciful way) and her asking Shiro if he wanted to cut her into pieces a few episodes ago (thing he indeed ended up doing as Dr. Usami). Very well-executed episode overall. Didn't find it particularly emotional since I barely knew these characters but I gotta say Production IG did a terrific job at directing each scene. Every character emotion was conveyed perfectly and I liked how the show made the viewer believe Dr. Usami and co. were the bad guys when they were just a guy taking care of his beloved and a bunch of other people looking for medical assistance. |

I am not going to explain you deeply why you are wrong because that would be a waste of time and is not related to the anime. Also, I would believe Maru feelings but before he helped to kill another sentient being without showing a bit of remorse or hesitation, then he mades a discovery and suddenly he is such a sentimentalist about living beings... Usually people like that show glimpses of his ideologies with even the smallest things but for a guy like you, I guess you wouldn't care about that, you don't even remember the fact nor thought about it, it makes such a profile of you. I am so humilliated, sure... By some guy with the reasoning of 13 years old boy. Already reading the first sentence of your second paragraph made me realize I was talking with some Disney boy who doesn't understand the world or it's impossible for him to understand another ideologies that are contrary to his principles, such a lame sentence. And last of all, if you call that adult behavior, I am worried. To the second guy, I guess you didn't even fully read my text and as I said, even with that fact, I still maintain my word. |

DatRandomDude said: Also remember in Ep 4 when Shiro approaches Mimihime about the photo and he tells her about urges - she asks, "Do you want to cut me up and stab me with needles?"Oh god, it just clicked. so Hoshio is Mimihime and Usami is most likely Shiro right? (it'd make sense, especially since Usami and Shiro share the same voice actor lol) The question was so wildly out of the blue, but it literally fits perfectly like a puzzle piece. |

Does anyone know the song playing at the moment Doctor reads her last words from a tablet at 13:40-14:30? Unfortunately can't recognize it with Google or Shazam. |

Yeah I have a feeling her foresight ability saw about herself being cut bits by bits to treat the disease. Dang, that's kinda horrifying. |

Because that's an info revealed later in the story and you cannot figure out with the clues you have with the anime. I'm not talking about the persons speculating on the current episode, I'm actually impressed by some of the deductions made here. Oh i see thought you are talking about the other things, glad i didn't read all the post here. Thanks for the warning. |

Honestly one of the most impactful episodes of this series so far, especially with the slow closing song at the end made it very emotional, and made me very sympathetic. |

I had a feeling Usami was actually a good guy and the others were just cultists mad about losing limbs but damn didn't think he went as far as giving up one of his eyes and taking time to take care of people even though he never was an actual doctor to begin with but really an engineer. I wonder if Maru could actually cure people that have that disease. I mean that stone he reaches in and touches could be pull it out of them instead of crushing it? |
