Juujika no Rokunin looks interesting, why the 5?

The author uses SA to advance 80% of the character dynamics, and so many Damsel in Distress type of characters (I don't have a problem with the 2 inherently, but it's just so overused and repetitive). Dragged story, lame villains. The big bad villain has one of the worst ideologies/motives I ever saw. The only good thing about it is the revenge porn.

Second half is quite a bit less dark actually

Oh, okay, that's still a lot of episodes but good to know it gets a little less pessimistic

So what do you think of the charcoal medium?

One like this:

I finally have my very own charcoal pencils after all these years.

oh xD

Must be great to own a DVD player. Mine just stopped working randomly ๐Ÿซจ

Ah, I see... It's one of my favorite seasons so far, as well, I liked it about as much as the very first season. To me, Adventure 02 and Tamers, while still really nice, were less impressive. Outside of the 2020 Adventure remake (ouch) I don't think there's really a 'bad' Digimon anime. The next one I plan to watch is Data Squad; seeing that it has a bit of an older cast, I reckon it would be a nice change of pace. I haven't watched Tri and don't plan to watch it, as I don't think I would like its tone nor agree with its overall message.

As for my favorite characters, I think all characters from the original Adventure and Frontier are pretty well done. Takuya from Frontier stands out to me as a cooler protagonist than all the other main characters I've seen so far in Digimon anime - both his human form and his Digimon evolutions. He and his evolutions feel more accomplished, less basic and more aesthetically pleasing, compared to other MCs. And again, I think he has quite a pronounced 'cool' factor in his design, voice and personality.

As far as Digimon characters go, I think all the angelic Digimon are fan favorites for a good reason. I really enjoy what they did with them overall - and I am including here Nefertimon and Pegasusmon as well, especially the Pegasusmon from the 2020 remake who for me was one of the highlights in what I think was the weakest Digimon series overall. The Digimon World wouldn't be the same without the angelic Digimon. I also am into all insectoid Digimon because I've been a bit into entomology since I was a kid. I like (Atlur)Kabuterimon line and its manly and protective personality towards the frailer and more intelectual Koushiro (in both the original and the 2020 remake versions of Adventure). Lilymon is a honorable mention, as I thought her first evolution scene was nicely done, her attacks are quite creative and her design has that insectoid fairy element to it. Other honorable mentions are the 3 main digimon partners from Ghost Game and their evolutions, I thought they were quite interesting and original.

I have never watched Digimon as a kid, but I enjoy it even as an adult and without the nostalgia element. I've always liked wildlife, I live close to a forest and have been passionate about nature since very little. So that's one of the reasons why I'm attracted to the Digimon world in general. Add to that my love for good fantasy and adventure stories, and the fact that as an artist I appreciate cool, creative and beautiful visual designs (and I think there are a lot of very good Digimon designs) and you've got a Digimon fan.

It would be interesting to know what are the main reasons you like Digimon and what are your favorite characters (both human and Digimon) from the various digimon anime - although I think I guessed what your main favorite is... Have a great day / evening!

I mean ratings are subjective so only way you can find out if it a 10 is by watching xD

I was being perfomatively harsh due to the thread's objective, sorry if I ended up being a bit too mean :X
But if you're into historical anime with a good dose of adventure i highly recommend it, the detail they put into every place they visit is also impeccable, they even visited my home city and those eps were a blast to watch :D

I actually do have interest of watching it some time, though the large amount of episodes put's it a bit behind on my backlog.
Vitali_Osandor Dec 14, 12:03 PM
Hey there. I've just finished Digimon Frontier. Seeing that you're a Digimon fan, I was curious if you watched it and what is your opinion of it. :-)
Lazy_Hunter Dec 14, 6:14 AM
There's a little trick I use to (not)accurately guess the dates I finished watching the shows.

There are a lot of animes in my list (previously more than 100) that I don't know exactly the date I finished them in, with some I only remember the year, and some I remember watching them alongside/right after/ just before other animes that I know the dates of, and from there I choose a time period and use a randomizer to pick a month, and said month is the one that will be put as the finish date (days don't matter as much).

I mean, lots of guess work is involved, but whatever date I end up with doesn't sound unreasonable.

I forgot to mention in the PM that I used my friend Sheklon as the topic. (You've probably seen him on the forums.) He couldn't stop laughing when I showed these to him.
SmugSatoko Dec 10, 1:47 PM
My sleep schedule also got out of whack recently, from working on long forum posts and other things. I've been going to bed around dawn lately.

The toy sword reminds me of the time I bought a real sword from a flea market. It had an evil-looking handle that caught my attention, with a ram skull and fake jewel. The sword itself was decent quality, but its attachment to the handle was flimsy. I was always worried about it detaching.

Spider-Cat naturally brings to mind my lifelong fandom of Spider-Man, starting with a baseball cap I got when I was four and own to this day. The comics are mind-bogglingly better than any of the movies or series. Coincidentally, the house I live in now has Spider-Man wallpaper in one of the spare bedrooms. They must've had a kid there.

I got that figure in the '90s. So yours doesn't have attachments that shoot off of it? Maybe there were different versions even then.

I assume the spoilers you encountered were of the violent and disturbing variety. If you are too frightened or whatever to watch the anime, I can tell you about the scene that announcement referred to.

I meant too many anime seem to cater to lolicons, sometimes in subtler ways.

By the way...would you be interested in hearing deepfake audio I made? I came up with the dialogue myself. Lots of witty references...even a MyAnimeList one. It has voices of anime and cartoon characters along with real celebrities. I'm curious how many you would recognize. I compiled the best ones I made into a single file under six minutes. I can send it to you in a PM if you'd like to hear it and promise not to share it anywhere.
SmugSatoko Dec 9, 12:56 PM
The matching comment and your pins remind me of the vibe I get from your taste: epic action with cuteness. I know that can represent anime in general sometimes, but it's amplified in your case.

I've only seen a handful of random Detective Conan episodes a long time ago...the dub on American TV that changed the name to Case Closed. Maybe I'll properly watch the 1,000+ episodes someday...

I wonder if you have the old speeder bike with parts that shoot off of it. (Looks like the new version explodes?) If I recall, that's my favorite one I had...but it was so long ago I could be mistaken. I also had an Ewok doll.

I'll just give you the links in chronological order. I gave this info to a handful of others recently, so I just pasted it. I don't want to spoil anything, but definitely watch Kai next. If you ever finish the series, the first season is well worth rewatching because it's full of subtle details that hint at what's going on. Every time I rewatch it I notice new things.

I've seen nearly everything in the Dragon Ball franchise since I've been watching it for so many years. I was hoping for a proper Super sequel, but Daima is still nice. Feels a lot like a fantasy RPG. Someone on YouTube commented that they're appealing to a younger audience with the younger-looking characters and it will probably make them a lot more money. (Too bad the author of Dragon Ball died recently.)

You can skip to the third Madoka movie first. The first two are like an improved version of the series, with better animation, music and some new content. For the English dub, the movies have significantly better voice acting than the series. I can't remember if the Japanese voices were redone in the movies. For anime in general, I usually watch sub first, then dub for a rewatch so it's not the exact same thing.

Wait, I thought you only saw two episodes, before they even descended into the abyss...? What was "beyond too much" there? (Aside from the unnecessary pedo crap all too many anime insist on including.) I really don't want to spoil it. It's not a long series, anyway. It's another with two recap movies (except they don't have any new content, so I would only recommend them to hardcore fans) and a third movie that's a sequel, followed by another season. You did see the first season of Higurashi, so I think you can handle the occasional bizarre and painful to watch scenes.

School Days is bland for the most part, then becomes completely different at the end, to the point that it's often found in lists of the most violent and disturbing anime just because of that one episode. But seeing what happened in the previous episodes makes the end more impactful. It was originally a hentai visual novel with choices that lead to good or bad endings.

Elf? [Edit: Oh, I think I get it. I'm guessing the elves make anime recommendations based on people's lists.] Someone else recently commented on my lack of scores too, so I'll paste what I told them. Yeah, I only watch for enjoyment. Not really interested in being a reviewer or anything. Plus the paradox of subjective versus objective factors is a hassle. There are some things I enjoy more that I don't consider to be as good in objective terms as plenty of others, for instance.

I rarely cry from anime, but After Story made me bawl like a baby. I try to enter the fictional worlds of anime as if I'm there myself...and that was a mistake. If I have children, I don't want them or my wife to freaking die. I did skim your review and you're right that it's recklessly stupid to give birth at home without qualified medical staff. There are so many things that can go wrong. But what really got to me is when his daughter died too. Many criticize this anime for exploitative crybait. And it has plenty of other issues. Nonetheless, the emotional impact was very high for me (all the more intense after getting to know the characters in the first season), so I was at least satisfied in that sense. Like I said, I'm not all that interested in writing reviews, so I'm too lazy to go into further detail. I'm more inclined to talk in-depth about my top ten anime.

Clannad was the favorite anime of one of the gaming teammates I mentioned. I actually introduced her to Higurashi by watching it with her via screenshare voice calls. We would often pause and discuss. But what's really wild is that she ended up moving to a college in a town near my hometown. I often visited that other town as a kid, but only when my family would drive for around an hour to get there.

I grew up in a mountain valley town with only around two thousand people...and across the mountains, there was a somewhat more urban town...just like Hinamizawa and Okinomiya! (That town only took a ten minute drive to get to.) I connected with the series and characters even more because of that. Hinamizawa is based on a real village. Look how closely the anime got to how it looks in real life! Especially the overlook.

Dark cats...unite! bahaha

Naruto is another I have postponed simply because it's so long and I like watching entire franchises. Interestingly, I took a handful of paid online surveys about Naruto, ranging from upcoming movies to games.

The little vampire girl in Shiki reminds me of Rika...and not just aesthetics. The more you see of Higurashi and Umineko, the more you'll understand why I said that. lol

The funniest moment for me in Umineko was when one of the characters was literally watching Higurashi on TV. XD

Hello. :3 I can be aggressive on the forums but I'm pretty chill in more private settings such as this. I agree with you much of the time and think you're one of the more charming members here.

You thought my reply to Cneq was directed at you. XD

I had a feeling you probably saw that series. I adore Omega. It's heartwarming how Hunter was a father figure to her. (Despite her technically being older.) He looks a lot like Solid Snake from Metal Gear. Crosshair stood out as the antihero of the batch (see what I did there?), reminding me of Vegeta. (My second favorite anime character.) Wrecker is just like Brick from Borderlands, my top game franchise. Metal Gear is DreamWindow's. (aka StarfireDragon.) He and I play Borderlands 2 together. In summer 2020 I was the leader of a BL2 team with three others who were all girls I knew from MAL!

On that note, check out my one of a kind Hunter x Hunter engraving on an audio device. (click) I have a Pitou shirt and hoodie too.

You're making me hungry. I used to go to fancy restaurants all the time, but eventually decided to focus on affordable food to save money.

I just noticed we're both at 173 days on our stats. Excuse my randomness as I peruse your list.

Oh wow, it even has a lightsaber. I've been into Star Wars since the early '90s. I used to have some of the toys (ahem, action figures) and video games. Old Nintendo games were a lot harder than the new stuff.

You may have noticed Higurashi is my #1 anime. The end of season one isn't an ending; it's just the beginning. hehe. The franchise has about a hundred episodes. The second season Kai is essential to finish the main story, as it unveils the mysteries from the first season. Think of them like the first and second half of a story told in a movie.

Ah, you appreciate AGK. So many hated that one, but I loved the dramatic death scenes and soundtrack.

By the way...Death Note is real. :P

(I rewatched this while eating and ironically nearly choked from laughing.)

Looks like you've seen some of the Dragon Ball movies, but not the series like Z, Super and GT. (Or perhaps your list isn't accurate. It says semi rewatch next to some.) DBZ was the first full anime series I saw, in the early 2000s. I typically favor subs, but the first Funimation English dub of Z transformed it to a Super Saiyan level, not only with the iconic English voices, but a unique American soundtrack that really brought the series to life.

10/10 FMA? Similar taste confirmed.

Back in 2010 an apartment I lived at got robbed. They stole DVDs but left the packaging for my FMA, Wolf's Rain and Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children box sets. The police told me the thieves probably tried to sell them discretely for quick drug money. At the time I was letting a friend borrow my FMAB DVDs so they were spared. We had anime parties at her house.

You joined the same year I changed my user name from SadMadoka, so I wonder if you remember me from back then. (Bonus points if you remember the Madokaism shrine on my profile. click)

Since you at least liked the magical girls battling each other, I'll link to this spoiler from the third movie, a sequel. It has a phenomenal soundtrack as well and this scene has my favorite song from it. There are subs with the CC button.

Some of the Psycho-Pass movies are great, though they don't compare to the first season.

Yesss. You saw the main Rurouni Kenshin OVA. The series is in my top 15 anime. I've been watching the new remake.

I watched Soul Eater so many times...both sub and dub, on everything from an HDTV to an iPod. My brother's favorite anime character is Excalibur. (Yes, he's weird.)

I actually made a post with crossover images of Steins;Gate and Higurashi. :D
https://myanimelist.net/forum/?goto=post&topicid=2069451&id=68365726

You've even seen Yu Yu Hakusho. That was another one of my first anime. It's so cool how the main characters and aspects of the story are like a less mainstream prototype for Hunter x Hunter. (You probably know they have the same author.) I showed Sheklon (one of my best friends) a GIF of YYH and he instantly knew which HXH characters they "corresponded" to. (He's seen the latter but not the former yet.) Hisoka is like a cross between Sensui and Kefka the sadistic clown from Final Fantasy VI.

The original Fate/stay night anime (not to be confused with the newer Unlimited Blade Works counterpart) is a poor introduction to the large Fate franchise. Fate/Zero is in my top ten.

I hate Kill La Kill too, but it has the same soundtrack composer as Attack On Titan (which has my #1 anime soundtrack), so I still loved the music.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VSopu4EecMo

Made In Abyss gets soooo much better as it progresses. Top-notch worldbuilding with imaginative creatures, landscapes and lore. (Disturbing and upsetting at times too. Like, when HorribleSubs was in vogue, they rarely ever made community announcements...but when a certain Made In Abyss episode came out, they simply posted "What the fuck." lol) It might be in my top 20 anime. And it's among my most cherished soundtracks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mnRoh0lGxwM

Mirai Nikki is flawed and inferior to tons of anime in more objective terms, but managed to make it to my top five thanks to emotional impact, which happens to be the prime factor for my enjoyment. Plus the soundtrack composer went above and beyond, with unique songs for most scenes. (Too many shows reuse the same songs.) It was released on nine CDs! It irks me they are only available in nine separate limited edition Japanese Blu-ray box sets that would probably cost over $500. I must have spent over $50K on my private music collection...but having to buy box sets like that (which probably don't even have subtitles) just to get the soundtrack legally is too crazy even for me.

School Days is notorious because of the insane final episode. Just watch that if you want to find out why.

Speaking of final episodes, the finale of Wolf's Rain is one of the best I've seen. (The last few episodes are a separate OVA on MAL.) And just listen to this masterpiece!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qf0QiaXCac0

You're all about dem cute cats but haven't seen Chi's Sweet Home? There's a 3DCG series too.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3HPTKymM5k4

King's Game is one of the worst anime I've seen, but it's so ridiculous I still enjoyed it.

Railgun S has one of my favorite anime scenes. The quality of the Toaru/Index franchise is all over the place, but so many moments made it worth the wild ride. Two of the characters are in my top ten.
Timeline_man Dec 8, 7:11 PM
The magic knights all have previous experience with combat. Hikaru did Kendo, Fuu did archery, and Umi did fencing. Pretty decent resume as Isekai protagonists go.

Lowkey kinda wish Fuu kept using the bow, that would've been some nice variety
