A new anime project for the Lycoris Recoil anime series was announced at the Lycoris Recoil Café Presents After Party! Tomorrow is another day. event on Saturday.

The original anime aired in 13 episodes in Summer 2022. Aniplex of America licensed the anime in North America and streamed it on Crunchyroll, with a subsequent English dub.

Lycoris Recoil marked the directorial debut of Shingo Adachi (Sword Art Online character design, chief animation director) at A-1 Pictures. Asaura (Ben-To manga) penned the script and Imigimuru (Kono Bijutsubu ni wa Mondai ga Aru! manga) designed the characters. Shuuhei Mutsuki (Sansha Sanyou) composed the music.

Synopsis
The number of terrorist acts in Japan has never been lower, thanks to the efforts of a syndicate called Direct Attack (DA). The organization raises orphaned girls as killers to carry out assassinations under their "Lycoris" program. Takina Inoue is an exceptional Lycoris with a strong sense of purpose and a penchant for perfection. Unfortunately, a hostage situation tests her patience, and the resulting act of insubordination leads to her transfer out of DA. Not thrilled about losing the only place she belonged to, she reluctantly arrives at her new base of operations—LycoReco, a cafe in disguise.

Takina's new partner, however, turns out to be quite different from what she imagined. Despite being the famed Lycoris prodigy, Chisato Nishikigi appears almost unconcerned with her duties. She drags Takina along on all kinds of odd jobs under the simple explanation of helping people in need. Takina is even more puzzled when Chisato takes down a group of armed assailants without killing any of them. Feeling like a fish out of water, Takina itches to get reinstated into DA—but Chisato is determined to prove to her that there is more to a life than just taking them. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Just as I expected.
Cliffhanger made it obvious, that they are setting up for a sequel, but sales was what would matter the most and sales were good.

Maybe this time the writer should think the story have sense, realism, and logic.

welp...

im pretty sure everyone knew this was coming

now as much as i hated how many guys i saw on screen, i'd actually be interested in the lilybell or maybe Majima's backstory so there could be an exception

or they can always just make the villains girls this time

and.. maybe actually EXPLAIN SHIT... like, why are people randomly superhuman? why is the general public so dumb? is Majima actually bad?... etc

I guess I'm probably gonna skip this, don't really care for the cute interactions tbh. The director did say he wanted to continue it as long as fans wanted to see more of it, and in a country where moe stuff sells like crazy, this was inevitable.

Or maybe the writer should continue with the same style as last time because it was successful and people want more of it.

The first season was pretty solid, and considering how well it did in Japan, this was to be expected.

And even if the concept and execution weren't all that unique, it's always good to see an anime original doing well.

If it was s2, they would have proudly announced it as such. Sinc4 it's an original anime they won't plunge straight into s2, it's probably either an ova or a mostly recap movie, to test the waters and keep milking merch sales. If that sells as well as s1, then there might come s2. Something along these lines.

oh my gosh I’M OVER THE MOON about this!!

i just knew A1 had to cook something because man those merch, sold out light novels, and bluray sales numbers weren’t jokes! and the fact that lyco reco radio continued even after the show ended speaks a lot. i also saw the news that lycoris recoil was one of the most talked about anime in japan in 2022.

i’m beyond excited for this and i don’t even care if they make it yuri or not. i’m just so glad that i’ll get to see more of my girls takina and chisato <3

This anime could've been so much better if it was just a little more realistic. But it seems most people are happy to get waifu bait than an actual good story.

Certainly felt like a show that wouldn’t get a sequel had it been a few years back, but, thankfully, things are different now, I suppose.

More Chisato is welcome ~

Looking forward to this!

I wish there was something new about 86 .

For your Lord has decreed that you worship none but Him. And honour your parents. If one or both of them reach old age in your care, never say to them ˹even˺ ‘ugh,’ nor yell at them. Rather, address them respectfully.
And be humble with them out of mercy, and pray, “My Lord! Be merciful to them as they raised me when I was young.”
(Holy Quran 17:23-24).

Aniplex doesn't have its own publishing label so they care largely about disc sales vs anything else. I won't be surprised if they don't move forward with 86, Kaguya, Engage Kiss since their disc sales aren't up to par with their 10k sellers. That doesn't mean the ip of lycoris or bocchi is above MHA since money circulates in different aspects

don't think it will be a tv anime otherwise they would announce it.
Either be a gacha, ova, or movie since they can get more money out of that vs a tv anime that is reliant on disc sales. Aniplex doesn't own a publishing label and cannot rely on circulation like most other series do

Nah, it's likely that they want to see where they can take the writing. The Ending was definitely open ended enough where a follow-up movie (Or 2) could finish off the story, as that could answer enough of the questions that they somewhat left in the air. An OVA, however, would likely not cover enough. They could also do a season 2 as well. In all likelihood, it's likely announcing in advance that a follow-up is in the works, however, they're likely going to see where they can take the story, before deciding which course of action is the most fitting. OVA is highly unlikely though. (To get maximum profits, Season 2 or a Movie would be the best approach.)
That said, this isn't "Milking a Cash Cow", the Director even said back when Season 1 started airing, that if it was successful enough, he'd aim to do a Season 2/follow-up. (Which is why the Ending was so Open Ended.)

I love KuruMizu!

That makes Demon Slayer less dumb and more sensical than this.

There's no way Kimetsu makes more sense than Lycoris Recoil, have you seen the Red District Arc of Kimetsu? That arc alone had far more unexplainable shit than everything that Lycoris has done across the series.

As if it needs to improve the writing, well, yes, Lycoris definitely dropped the ball in writing around the last episodes, you can see they were far more concentrated with Takina and Chisato's friendship than in the actual plot, so when they decided to focus more on the plot it turned out weird. But this is a sequel that isn't needed, I don't think the writing will improve much.

I already saw Entertainment District Arc and yeah it's full of shit, plot armour, sudden power ups, and dumb sequence. The only difference between the two is DS is a fantasy battle shounen while LycoReco can be realistic at some point. There are no power ups or fantasy elements whatsoever in LycoReco but damn the writing is so pathetic and worse than I thought. Who could imagine that many agents and civilians are being killed in front of many people and after a few seconds the government told the people that it was just a show?
