| Ryuunsuke has such a tomboyish personality but that's the way she was raised. This episode was pretty intense for one that takes place on the beach. Seriously, I think Ryuunsuke might even be more of a hothead than Ataru. This episode was wild, even with that date on the boat. |

| Beach episode...except that this is a full-on jab for Ryunosuke Fujinami and his father while the ocean pumps at them. That said, both father and son are ocean-ridden about sales on their seaside cafe, especially with the crazy tidal waves of the Summer season, to the point of bickering to no end. Whether is it the harsh Winter or the Summer waves, Ataru and the others don't seem indented to help the family out...until the gender reveal that Ryunosuke is a girl, and the family business of a huge bagage is too much for them to handle. So in exchange for Ryunosuke trying to accept the business, even with the doubts between father and daughter, they try tying them down to talk it out using words...but ended up with more violence instead. Even out on the streets, the father and daughter family just could not stop their arguments, and Ryunosuke starts her new life at Ataru's school as the new transfer student, finally getting the chance to wear a sailor uniform if only she can beat him. And suddenly, Ryunosuke has the entire class's female students in love, with Ataru and Shutaro losing their momentum. That siad, the prvilege of Ataru and friends stealing the sailor uniform her Ryunosuke, she will not acknowledge until she beats her dad fair and square. Apparently, Ran's image befits her dream, and so she asks her for help, the former thinking that Ryunosuke is a boy. To further complicate things, the assumption that both Lum and Ataru are stalking the both of them, it just creates hilarity for Ran thinking that Lum is out to get her. Ryunosuke's sailor uniform journey will have to wait another day... |

| We’ve got just about every character archetype with the addition of ryunoskue now lol. Cast just keeps getting better and better. Ataru almost had his worst nightmare come true. Losing not one but TWO waifus at once lmao. |

| UMI GA SUKIIIIII Finally, the debut of the Fujinamis! Gotta say, hearing Megane's voice Shigeru Chiba as Mr. Fujinami works way better than I anticipated. I just wish he'll be allowed to make adlibs once in a while but it seems unlikely. I like Ryuu-chan's new VA Ayahi Takagaki. But I will miss the original VA Mayumi Tanaka (Luffy's VA) a lot. Hopefully, she'll get a cameo role like Inuyasha and Kagome's VAs. As expected, Ryuunosuke and her father's interaction has been toned down a lot... Even though they still beat the shit outta each other, the change is subtle enough to not be deemed too violent and gear toward abuse like in the original... Like the scene where her dad slaps the shit outta her was cut and was replaced by a similar scene later where he just... shakes her? Idk it's just a bit weird. Slapstick humor doesn't work well if it's toned down. Also, her dad seems WAY less cruel in treating her like a boy, probably cause this might be deemed transphobic by today's standards. But these "offensive" jokes are what really made watching the original so fun in 2021. Ryuunosuke debuted in episode 63 of the original series if you're interested. Ryuunosuke's character design is what irks me a bit. In all the promotional material her pupils looked red like Sakura's. But in the actual episode, they seem hazel or brown. Pretty weird. Ryuunosuke still looks too much like Sakura with short hair. If her hair color was a deeper blue or didn't have the light blue secondary color and looked more like she did in the OG anime then I think it would've been a little better. I'm very happy to see her (and her dad) in the eyecatch though. I did NOT expect the "Ran, Scent of a Woman" chapters to be adapted in the 2nd segment. At all. That was a welcome surprise for me especially since it's one of my favorite episodes of the original. Definitely one of the top 25 Urusei Yatsura episodes. But since the story was basically hamfisted with another chapter "Hello, Sailor Suit!!" many jokes from both chapters were cut or streamlined. Still, I'm satisfied because it still retained some of the best jokes with Ran. If you're interested, I highly recommend watching the original episode 65 "Ran-chan's Great Date Plan!" Next week we'll get a similar date episode. Can't wait for that. And also, "Wish Upon a Star". Not exactly a chapter I was dying to see adapted but I think there's a reason for it to be remade. It's cause it's pretty much the only chapter where we get to see Ataru's dad in a major role, who's voiced by the original Ataru, Toshio Furukawa of course. On a side tangent, I really fell in love with the ED song "Ai tarinai". It's just so catchy. The official music video is clearly inspired by future funk/vaporwave aesthetics, something Urusei Yatsura has a reputation for on YouTube. I just don't get why they didn't employ a similar animation for the actual ED. A lot less people would skip the ED if they did. |

| Rough waves indeed. Nature does have a habit of punishing those that don't respect it. But beach side cafe's like theirs really is hard to maintain after all since it depends on both the season and the weather. Thats one argument that no one's going to be able to stop. Still never expected them to join the cast at school though. Ataru really ended up wrecking Ran's plan big time this time. Still nice to see another character join the series and make their days that much more amusing. |

| That's one loud parent and child. Mendo and Ataru's behaviour sure changed after they learned she's a girl though. Liked Ryuunusuke, she's kinda fun to watch. Specially with her wanting to be more girly. Wonder when Ran will learn the truth. |

| Enter best boy eh I mean girl Ryuunosuke. She and her dad are full of energy as always. I like that they went with Buggy's seiyuu for him. Ngl, I even lowkey expected that. Chiba Shigeru is one of the greats. Their unusual dynamic was kept funny even tho a lot was cut short and toned down. @0451 Twitter would've had a field with him. However, it's guaranteed that some snowflakes will complain anyway. |

| Another beach segment except we are introduced to Ryunosuke Fujinami who we find out is a tomboy, but his father treats him like a boy so that she one day take over her father's beach side shop. Unfortunately the two of them don't get along as they constantly fight each other in an endless rage like the sea itself. Ryunosuke desire is to wear a sailor uniform so she can be like the other girls, but her father won't allow it. Ataru and the others tried to help, but they ended up destroying the cafe. The next segment is when Ryunosuke enrolls in Ataru's school and it just so happens that her father has the sailor uniform that she wanted, but she had to beat him a fight. Ryunosuke ended up loosing the fight thanks to Ataru's interference so she was forced to wear her normal tomboy outfit. Ryunosuke getting more popular with the ladies was slowly affecting his popularity so he and the boys decide to steal the sailor uniform from Ryunosuke's dad. Despite all that Ryunosuke refuses to wear it, but she is smitten by Ran and wants to hang out with her. Lum tries to tell Ram that Ryunosuke is a girl, but she didn't believe her. Ataru on the other got jealous so he followed Ram and Ryunosuke and ruined their date. Hopefully we get to see Ryunosuke in a sailor uniform someday. |

| Ryuunosuke and her dad are finally here in the remake, I find their relationship hilarious in the OG and it’s nice to see that energy and chaos is done well here too, Ryuunosuke’s dad having the original VA for Megane is pretty awesome and he did a great job, Ryuunosuke’s new VA did good too and I got used to the new voice quickly but I think I’m a bigger fan of her original voice, her design here is nice too. It was also nice to see her introduction done really well, although shorter I felt it amounts up to the original. I also loved seeing Ryuunosuke’s date with Ran done in the remake, the original episode is one of my favorites so it’s a shame it was a lot shorter here but it was still really fun. I’m also happy to not see an uproar about Ryuunosuke, at least not yet lol, but that could be because they toned down her fights with her dad, but personally they always make me laugh my ass off lol. |

I saw the '81 adaptation of UY before One Piece, so Luffy just sounds like Ryunosuke to me because of that. |

| I'm enjoying this so much. They've made so many good decisions in this adaptaion and the art and animation is consistently crisp and fitting. Loved seeing Ryu animated here. |

| Agreed, the art direction has really grown on me, with its bright color palette and comic-book pattern tones. Those cut-in character graphics also add to the show's charm. As far as today's new episode went, I'm digging Ryunosuke's new voice direction - Admittedly, I've gotten to a point where I stop overtly comparing it to the 80's adaptation (Or at least, I try not to) and have been enjoying it a lot more. Of course, I couldn't not think of it when Shigeru Chiba acted on screen! |

| Welcome to the cast Ryunosuke! Your hard-hitting antics will be greatly enjoyed. Her and Her father sure make me realize how dated their gimmick is. You just don't see a Father and Daughter battle played for gags anymore. Either way, her storyline of wanting to become more girly with the cast of characters we have is going to be quite hard to accomplish! |

| This episode is a mixed bag for me overall. The first part is quite good while the second part is quite rushed. No wonder the second part is actually adapting three chapters worth (sailor suit 1 chapter and Ran scent is 2 parts). I like Ryuunosuke's VA and especially her father by Megane. The first part features postcard memory scenes with Mr. Fujinami scenes, they are good. On the other hand, the second part is very disappointing for how the Ran date part is just sort of squished in while also ditching out very good scenes like this: In the original, Ataru and Lum are actually dating while also stalking on Ran. Tanabata date and Valentine chapter aren't getting adapted is not enough and now this? Even more disappointing that they have an official art for this part yet decided to not use it. They also changed the ending where Ataru managed to disrupt Ran and Ryuunosuke date. Ataru in the remake is less funny and annoying to me so far. He still portrayed as hordogs or intruders without his good qualities. I felt like the main characters are all sidelined in favor of introducing as many new characters every week thus making them less developed as individual. Next week is Ryuunosuke dating with Shinobu, I hope they don't tone down its last scene though. ryzxgum said: Go for it!
