We got more background storytelling, which I think this anime is doing a decent job at with its pacing. Plus, Anne is building more important character relationships especially with Shall.

Plus, I believe this show is giving a decent impression of fairy's personalities as well by protraying them as more human-like. Once again though, this anime goes to show the depths of its dangerous world and Anne seems to know that by now.

Okay back to long journey. Ann and the party stay at the doctor's inn, Ann and her party meet a previous guest who calls himself Hugh. When Hugh know that Ann and Jonas are Silver Sugar Master, Hugh asks them to make Silver Sugar in exchange for providing accommodation. However, Hugh's judgement is mixed. That night, as if to cheer up for Ann, Shall tell Ann about his past for the first time...

It was the story of Liz and the Black Fairy. The girl was 5 years old. Liz had orange-coloured hair. Liz was a noble girl. Yahhh... I think Shall end up with Ann was fate. This world is too cruel for both of them, I mean as fairies... Is it necessary for humans to torture fairies?

I like the scene when Ann is attacked by the monster and Ann cries in Shall's arms. That was so sweet... Hope Ann will not end up with Jonas but yahhh Jonas is a real bastard, lol. Also, Cathy-san being jealous for no apparent reason is so cute <3

Um.. great?
I mean, I thought it would be some mediocre CGDCTish cooking drama series. But looks like the cooking isn't the main theme here.

Lets gooo 3rd best show of the season is back.

DUDE WTF. This episode was crazy. So I guess in hindsight the sugar being stolen was foreshadowed with all the focus on it this episode.

From start to finish it was a big point of emphasis but i didn’t expect Jonas to go and do that. I genuinely thought he cared about Anne, was just too pushy. But love shouldn’t be transactional. It’s not real love if you expect something in return. Still, to literally lure wolves to a girl you just said you loved and wanted to marry…

The end almost overshadowed the Challe backstory we got. He must have really cared about Liz :/

The first half of this episode was a bit of a snoozefest, but I did like Shall's backstory, and obviously, the twist at the end was a little unexpected. Guess people do some crazy things when their love isn't requited.

Wow, what a cun* I hope he gets stabbed. He is a lifeless brat using others, ruining lives as he pleases. Also, his small fairy is so annoying, the dream team. Wish the author wouldn't waste time on such atmosphere-ruining characters.

That betrayal was brutal. It was even in the title and my dumb ass didn't see it coming. Who am I to expect peace in this violent world rich with slavery and apparent rigid class structures?

I was tricked by the sweetness of the sugar and coddled by the rosy undercurrents of love. We all know that douchenozzle Jonas will get his in the end, though. This terrifying, sugary adventure surely has a happy ending, right? Right?

Not Jonas and not the sugar confection.

It was pretty funny how he was laughing in Annes's face while she was slowly realizing that something was off. Good episode all the way.

It was obvious Jonas was the culprit and Cathy an accomplice. Man, no means no. Just get over it. If that is his true colours then Ann was damn right not to marry him. Also, liked the scene where she rejected the kiss and outright said she didn't love him, I'm glad she cleared it out honestly without further misunderstandings. It's not her fault the dude is scum.

Shall is warming up to Ann though, that's what I'm here for. Looking forward to what happens next.

Also, I found it strange that Shall was mistaken for a companion fairy, and they didn't believe he was a warrior, the other warrior fairy was beautiful as well, so what were they talking about, lmao. I have a feeling though, that this guy criticised Ann not to be mean but to help her improve, maybe we'll see him at the exhibition too.

Didn't really like the 2nd episode, thought I'd drop the whole thing today after watching this one. But honestly, it kind of fixed the big issues I had with this, for now at least.

If Jonas was a genuinely good guy, I still wouldn't like him, he's annoying. But having him betray Anne makes things interesting, and I think for a lot of people who were just 50/50 on this like I was, it gave us a reason to keep watching. Because of course anyone would want to keep watching to see this mfker pay. And because of the whole missing-sugar incident (probably Jonas' doing as well), Mithril is off crying somewhere and may or may not return in the next few episodes- the longer the better, because he was getting on my nerves as well.

Anyhow, not dropping anymore, for the next few episodes at least. It may be in generic fashion, but I'm still curious to see how things will unfold.

That betrayal seems a little contrived, but I do hope they stick with it. If she forgives Jonas in an episode or two, that would be a crime. Anyone who dumps blood on someone to attract hungry wolves to maul them to death does not deserve forgiveness. Just saying…..

I was kind of expecting this, like he seemed really off. I didn't like him but wow I just hate him now. I can't believe he would actually go this far just because Anne didn't want to behave like how he wanted. This dude actually sucks, and I hope he gets messed up by the end of this.

Anne's perception of the world when it comes to fairies, it's definitely abnormal.

The doctor's inn housing other travellers, such as Hugh with his warrior fairy Salim, testing Challe of his prowess, it's legit. But the cost of covering a stay with the effort of sugar artisans, both Anne and Jonas can work this easily. Jonas still on the marriage talk where Anne is not fully invested in and wanting to become a silver sugar master instead, both were distraught in Hugh's criticisms of their creation. In trying to comfort Anne, Challe telling her of his backstory with his previous master who took care of him but died at the hands of humans, this is what became of Challe as time passes.

Wanting to make a sugar confection for Challe, Anne finds her silver sugar mysteriously disappeared, and if it isn't recovered before reaching Lewiston for the exhibition, she would be in big trouble. Suspecting the innocent Mithril isn't gonna cut it, and Jonas offers a solution in the form of sugar apples. As for the actual confection, it must be something original, and it is a work of art. Above all, Jonas shows his fangs on Anne and Challe: if forcing a kiss on her won't do it, having wolves chase her with Challe in tow is the final straw that broke the camel's back.

The shady character just wants to get the best, that's all.

That was so fucked up! I knew Jonas was annoying but I let my guard down on him, I thought of a few other possible scenarios but throwing Ann to the wolves didn't cross my mind. I hope he gets what is coming to him.
Challe could end up on my Fave characters list after this show, we'll see......
It's pretty quick that he's warming up to Ann, but I'm not complaining. Just comparing it in my head to how long it took InuYasha to open up to Kagome. He shared his backstory and what a smile when talking about her sweet scent!

When he disobeyed her order to rescue the confection, in order to protect her life, that was sweeter than any confection.
If he were concerned for his own freedom, he wouldn't have much of a stake in Ann remaining alive (also what use is it to have a rescued confection and a dead artisan...). Challe associates her with a loved one from his past. We can tell that he is out here trusting Ann with his life/freedom, sensing that she is bound to keep her word and does genuinely care about him. I wonder if she will free him exactly when we are told so far (when they arrive in Lewiston) or if something will happen in Lewiston that leads Ann to consider or to decide on extending her hold of Challe's wing. I am doing a lot of speculating on this series! I love that about a show, when it has my mind considering many possibilities ~

Based on the opening, I thought Jonas's mediocre ass was just gonna hang around the not-harem peripheral cast for the rest of the show. I'm pleasantly surprised to see this story outright decry privileged, entitled "nice guys" who don't listen to the women they claim to love as The Fucking Worst. Now will it follow through and make him a major antagonist (or delete him from the plot, I vote deletion) or will there be some contrived take-back?

I remember how much I disliked every moment of this episode... Hugh being overly friendly and even rude, Ann accusing Mythrill of stealing her silver sugar, and Jonas himself (seriously just seeing Jonas pretending to be nice to Ann made me so annoyed and disgusted).

I'm relieved and grateful that this lie and drama wasn't dragged too long because I want Jonas' screentime to decrease or even better if he could disappear from this anime.

And yes, Shall is already fond of Ann because he chose to protect her instead of going after Jonas (as per Ann's order), when he could have gone to finish Jonas and get Ann's confectionery, PLUS get his wing back from Ann because when he came back Ann would have died by those dogs. Shall is basically a kind fairy and I guess all fairies are probably kind but maybe, fairy traits/attitude can follow the influence of their owner too... therefore I think Shall can be a kind and gentle fairy because of Liz's influence too ♡

At first, in the earlier episodes, I thought he was just a really persistent lad, but after this episode, nah nah, bros a creep and a user, stab his ass Shall. Remove him from the OP and ED while we're at it.

I have a feeling Hugh is part of the competition, he might be able to help Anne by noticing Jonas's lying piece of shit. Hugh doesn't hold back with his critiquing, but I think he's not a bad person.

I shall (fen shall) await for Mithril's epic(?) return and proceed to splash on Anne's enemies.

Pretty sad to hear about Liz, I assume she got killed due to some Noble issues, Shall is right, fuck humans man.

And there I was hoping that after the constant rejections and the last very clear one as he even tried to kiss Anne, the writer wouldn't just turn him into the "bad guy" in order to go the easy way out of the rejected love route... It is ok to have one-sided feelings in a story. You don't need to turn the one that got rejected into a psychopath who already planned it all along so that basically all the viewers don't have any other choice but to just hate him. Like, c'mon.

I feel like the story is progressing super fast compared to the manga. Which is amazing because the characters are so loveable and interesting and I hated that the manga is so short. They also don't make unnecessarily prolonged scenes that tend to happen in some romance animes. Makes me really excited for the next episodes.

Uh, you guys, Salim isn't a fairy, he is Hugh's human bodyguard (you didn't see a wing, right?). Warrior fairies are usually bigger and burlier than Challe, like how Anne said in 1st episode when she didn't believe Challe is a warrior fairy.

Also, Challe isn't "quickly" warming up to Anne, because their journey to Lewiston is 14 days long. Doctor's Inn was at the end of the 4th day. At the end of the 7th day Anne found out that her silver sugar is missing. Then it took them 3 days to reach the sugar-apple grove and find and harvest the fruit + 3 days to refine the apples into silver sugar (and then it would take them cca. half a day to get to Lewiston). In the beginning he is showing little interest in her (why is she travelling alone, why she smells like silver sugar, why is she so childish and naive even though she is 15 and so on), but he sees through her actions that she is kind to fairies unlike other humans and he starts to like her a bit along their journey to Lewiston.

Also, Jonas didn't suddenly decide to steal Anne's sculpture because he was angry his love was unrequited/she refused to marry him, it was planned from the beginning: 1) propose to her and coax her into making you a sculpture or 2) if it fails, steal her sculpture. (All girls in his village were crazy about Jonas and he thought he could make Anne fall in love with him too, so he was being pushy, but he failed.) Jonas already failed twice to become the Silver Sugar Master, so he decided to use her sculpture this year. Maybe they will explain in the next episode about his plan. If not, I'll tell you more. BTW, I don't think Jonas wanted to kill Anne, he probably thought Challe would protect her agains the wolves (like he did with bandits and crows) - he had to get the wolves to keep Challe occupied, so he could escape with Anne's wagon, otherwise Challe could stop him. But yeah, he's still a piece of shit and a disgusting bastard.

(If anyone is wondering about the episode title, in the novel the chapter is called "The Sugar Apple is a Deceitful Tree" - this is because their fruit looks pretty and delicious, but it's inedible, it's extremely bitter and astringent - but the silver sugar refined from the apples is very tasty and is considerd a sacred food. So yeah, you can see sugar apples are like Jonas who is "handsome and kind", but is actually a bastard.)

(If anyone is wondering about Hugh's comments about their candy sculptures, it's because Jonas just wanted to show off his skills (there was no creativity) and Anne has a good technique but her works are blind imitations of her mom, they are hollow, with no spirit - Hugh said that eating something like that would not draw in any good fortune for humans or extend a fairy's life span - the works of Silver Sugar Masters do this btw.)

(If anyone is wondering why Anne was happy that Hugh offered to pay for their stay at the Doctor's Inn - it's because she is very low on money because the cost for her mom's medical treatment over the past half a year was considerable and all their savings were gone - she had purchased Challe with the last gold coin and after paying for staying at Doctor's Inn she would be bankrupt.)

(If anyone is wondering why they thought Mythril ate Anne's silver sugar - it's because all fairies like silver sugar, it's the only food they can taste.)

(If anyone is wondering about Anne's feelings toward Challe, she's lonely, so she wants a friend, that's mostly it - and of course she would turn red if he holds her or leans too close to her, he's beautiful after all. She's lonely because her mom died only 2 weeks before she bought Challe - and she and her mom have always been traveling, and didn't stay in any village or town for long, so she doesn't have any friends. They stayed at Jonas' village for cca. half a year because Anne's mom got sick when they got to the village, so they stayed there until she will get better, but she died - Anne didn't have any friends in the village because all the girls were jealous that she and her mom were staying at Jonas' house - because his parents are candy crafters too so they kindly offered another candy crafter to stay there... or was there more reason behind it? ;-) - so anyway, all village girls liked Jonas because his family is wealthy and he is handsome and kind and they were jealous of Anne.)

It was brutal of Jonas to try killing our main Heroine, Ann, as he was again completely rejected from his continued marriage proposals for her.

Well, the guys who commented before me get the jist of this guy... If you can't have them, kill them. A guy 'Yandere'? or another kind of character? I'd like to kill this supporting character now as his uselessness is already over. Forget about being a friend to her, he is now just a murderer.

It was fun to see Ann sulking in bed while Shall is sitting on her bed... not really lewd or anything, but quite adorable, however Shall stepped back after she tried comforting him back... lol (this guy...)

I also saw others pointing out the heartfelt tearjerker scene at the end where Ann's work was more important than her own very life. Yes, she should really care more for her wellbeing. 🥺

A really interesting episode for this week.

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.
