| I wonder what other historical secrets are hidden in this series, especially those relevant to the plot. This episode also had Shouxue do her usual thing and uncover mystery with her talent. Impressive work tbh. |

| I don't know man, but when that explanation arc started, with the whole winter/summer king thing that happened ... My brain just completely went off. I guess it explains the origin of our heroine's position, but still, i find it a bit convoluded. |

| A jade pendant belonging to a young princess who died escaping from the clutches of the Luan Dynasty due to her beauty, and the plot thickens when the ghosts of past are seen according to Shouxue. In this case, it's Princess Mingzhu who died beneath the willow tree, and since this also affects Gaojun in one way or another, his only option is to go to Xue Xuyong to discern more about who Shouxue really is, not just the Raven Consort by name and position. Baiyan, Niao Lian, it's clear that what Xuyong is trying to tell Gaojun is of the real origin of the Raven Consort's past, and when confronted with Shouxue herself, as adamant as she is with him trying to understand what's going on, it's the story between the Winter and Summer King. In essence, Ancient China having multiple kings (in this case is 2) to form the basis for the Raven Consort of generations past of a bitter spat between kings (Summer King vs. Winter King for the affection of their emperors, that the one unforunate lady become the Raven Consort to shut her away), and Shouxue, simply had no choice but to follow the tradition, as Niao Lian became Yeyoushen, and that her life depends on not stepping one step outside of the Ye Ming Palace. Jiu-Jiu being possessed by Luan Bingyue, what a cliffhanger. |

| Omg easily the best episode so far, if this doesn’t make anitrendz top 10.. smh Not a lot of action, but the drama and tension was so palpable today. Loved when Shoxue snapped on the emperor for “pitying her” thought she would slap him too. We don’t often see Shoxue get violent but given all she’s been through and the origin of the raven consort it makes so much sense now why the emperor coming around annoys her sm. Personally loved the lore bits. Ancient china having two kings and needing them to coexist is a really interesting way to explain all the wars lol. The Luan emperor and the first raven consorts story was really tragic :/ Nooo not jiu jiu, I swear if that evil Luan sorcerer hurts my baby we will riot. |

| Last episode mystery was overshadowed by the Winter King story. Shouxue keeping that anti-social but chill, and the Emperor ended pushing too much, story was told, and the atmosphere got really heavy. Thankfully, for the better or worse, Bingyue appeared to break the ice. |

| The lore was great and all, but it feels like too much done in too short of a time. It just doesn't feel as meaningful or significant as it should be. The pacing of the show is what holds it back a little, as it really would benefit from the characters and backstories being fleshed out a bit more. |

| So the Yeyoushen is like the "be home before the streetlights come on" thing. Interesting. It's sad how Ni Luan (who played the role as the Yeyoushen that night) chose her to be the Raven Consort. The origin story has cleared many things up. The whole winter king and summer king gives off a yin yang kind of balance. | It was nice to see more explanations about the origins of the Raven Consort, and the explanation of why she can't go out from the inner palace. Love between the protagonists is developed well, but I also wanna see more mysteries |

| No episode last week was a bummer, but I felt this week's return really made up for it when shit just got real. It got exciting with revealing the true history behind the first white-haired summer king and first Raven Consort. To think the Raven Consort was not a priestess of the monstrous human-faced bird goddess, but a "king" in her own right. I guess that's why they named the ending theme song "Summer Snow". It took me by surprise when Jiu-Jiu got possessed and taken hostage by the ghost of the sorcerer dude. Damn you cliffhanger! |
| A whole bunch of lore dropped on us in this episode so there was a lot to take in, but it was nice to learn the history of the Raven Consort. I feel like this info should have been spaced out a little more though. |

| holy shit what an episode but boi the info dump. felt like my brain stopped working. will have to rewatch this episode. ok i rewatched the episode and it is much much clearer now. the whole lore of how raven consorts came to exist, the story of the goddess, why shouxue can't leave, winter king, summer king, everything is clearer now. they didn't pursue that willow princess matter though. i thought shouxue would do something to make her reach paradise. the cliffhanger though. the notorious sorcerrer is at it again. i wonder what he wants. the matter of emperor's mum and ding's ghost appearing is an issue unresolved too. i pretty damn great episode overall. enjoyed a lot. took a rewatch but it's fine. probably the best one story wise. 5/5. |

| It was quiet common in the old times for tribes to have two kings, one is responsible for the sacred and the other for leading the army and dealing with daily matters. Just think about the roman pontifex maximus whose original role was to maintain the pax deorum or "peace of the gods." An other example is the hungarian tribes' nominal or sacred leader who was styled kende, while their military commander bore the title gyula. The background story was a typical parable about the old king who, because of wanting more power or in the blindness of passion, leaves the old ways, defiles the sacred, and in consequence the whole kingdom gets punished. Then comes an outsider, who rises to be the new king and who finds a solution to circumvent the tradition while maintaining its observances in a way that pleases the Gods. Then rises a new dynasty to power that herites a tradition but because its meaning and role has been forgotten by men only the institutional facade remains. Everything is set for a disaster to happen. The Summer king is choosen by man either through heritage or by war, while the Winter King is choosen by the Godess herself so she couldn't be put down by man only by the will of the Godess herself. It makes sense now why she has had the courage all the time to defy the emperor himself, because she is on the same level than him. |

| So basically Shouxue is the winter king and the emperor is the summer king but she doesn't have much power as far as leading the people and being able to leave the area, unlike the emperor. I think the current emperor will offer to declare her winter king or maybe propose to her but something/someone will probably try to prevent that. This definitely got more interesting. |
| They still haven't explained anything about the ghost of the mother and teacher that are haunting the emperor D: And what's wrong with the sorceror Bingxue dude. Please don't hurt Jiujiu and stop harassing poor Shouxue :/ |

| Damn cliffhanger got me good. Definitely the best episode for me so far, that was some great spicy lore dump. It was really interesting to see how every information we had so far tied up to the Raven Consort story. It's going to be great to see how The Emperor and Shouxue will change things. Bingyue better not hurt Jiu-jiu though or he catching these hands. |

In all seriousness, I'd be curious to know if Niao Lian is modelled off of a figure in real mythology. I can't help but feel the design just does not fit the aesthetics of the rest of the show, so I'm wondering if it's meant to refer to something else. If you have any insights, please let me know~ |

| A good story has officially started to be unraveled. I was not expecting the story to become this deep so fast. The pacing is phenomenal, it explains the Ravens Court so well; while explaining why they are so quiet. This is the best episode that's been produced so far, it'll be interesting to see this story continue. |

| With the whole "the summer king needs the winter king to mantain peace" and her being captive, his role as emperor has clearly been challenged by himself and there is his romantic interest in her, things are clearly getting more interesting. The "I pity you" moment was so good, he might mean well but now knowing about the truth behind the role of the Raven Consort it highlights why she's so averse to him, he reminds her of her lack of agency. The original Raven Consort's story was sad, poor girl. |
