Welp, Hao serves as the final boss after obtaining all that power. No surprise there.

Interesting to see Ohachiyo in this finale as well. but honestly, this felt more than just the fight. It's more of a way to face their destiny and also quite interesting to see their mother. Not your typical type of finale but imo, a decent conclusion.

I'm going to miss this anime but a SEQUEL got announced!

I'm disappointed overall. It's not bad but it's not as good as the old version imo.
It's very rushed even after they adapted the parts that was in the old anime.
Still a decent shounen but nothing special about it.Hoping the sequel is better. 6/10
.

Story was really good, bordering on fantastic multiple times.
It's rough around the edges and rushed pacing issue does hurt it, but this is easily one of the most enjoyable and refreshing shounen shows I've seen in years. Original anime was fun in its own way but also was very basic and not really comparable with what this one does (or at least attempts to do).
Need to finally read manga at some point too.

Well, i know that the manga toward the end was rushing everything so was expecting the same with the new adaptation. But i still like it, Shaman King is that much of a nostalgia for me, always liked its characters and the story is old school too.

And i felt it in my bones that this has only been made so that they can announce sequel manga announcement, which i'm really looking forward to.

Finally this is over, it got a happy end which was expected from the nature of the show. Ren and Jeanne got married and have a kid too, wow. Glad to see them all grown up. Thou grown men having childish voice felt weird af.

This was such a mess of a show, somehow managed to finish it and proly won't be watching the sequel.

Well, here it is. The final episode. After a year since it started airing, Shaman King (2021) is now officially a complete adaptation of the manga. What a journey it's been. First time I've watched all episodes of an anime remake while it was airing and while the episodes were still the newest one. Bit of an anti-climactic ending, though. A train. Hao's mother. A 7 year timeskip.

My thoughts on this anime as a whole:

Starting with the good: The characters always stayed on-model, and never off-model. It also followed the manga. Stayed faithful to the manga from beginning to end. No filler episodes or recap episodes. I prefer this version over the 2001 version, which stopped following the manga around episode 30. The music was good, but I've noticed that there's a complete absence of hip-hop in the OPs, EDs and background music, and it's something you'd expect to hear since the mangaka was influenced by hip-hop when he made Shaman King, as the manga had a hip-hop/urban vibe to it. Didn't get bored while watching any of the episodes (except with the flashback episodes). I also liked that the characters had internal monologues. Another positive is that Anna became less of a bitch as the show went on. Still my least favourite character, though.

The bad: Well, the fights were crap. The fights were worse than One Piece's fights. It's just still frames. A slideshow. This is supposed to be a battle shounen ffs. And anyone who says it isn't is wrong. Half the show is a tournament. And the studio gave us poorly animated fights that I couldn't get excited about. I think the manga might be partially to blame for this, as the fights in the manga aren't any better. If Studio Pierrot had animated it instead of Bridge, the animation during fight scenes would've been much better. IIRC, the animation in the action scenes of the 2001 version was just still frames too. The action scenes in Shaman King (2021) are honestly the most disappointing aspect of the series to me.

And the pacing. Oh boy. Very fast-paced. Like, this should've been at least 64 episodes. Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood got 64 episodes. Why did this only get 52 episodes? (Though to be fair, FMAB had 1 filler episode and 1 recap episode, so only 62 of the 64 episodes were canon.) Tbh, the pacing didn't bother me too much, and there were at least 14 episodes where the pacing was alright. It pretty much has the same pacing as the Golden Kamuy anime (except for the first 13 episodes of SK 2021), which is also a rushed adaptation that adapts more than 4 chapters per episode, yet it ranks much higher on MAL.

Also annoyed with dead characters coming back to life. At least Marco stayed dead.

Overall, Shaman King (in general) is just nothing special. Just okay. I had more fun watching (and reading) Naruto and Bleach and a lot of other shows, action and non-action. I didn't grow up with the original anime, so I have no nostalgia for it. Definitely wouldn't put it in my Top 50 fav anime/manga, but definitely not a bad anime/manga either. I still enjoyed the series, just not the fights and other moments that I found annoying. And it's cool that it got a complete adaptation. There's a sequel on the way, so there's still more Shaman King to look forward to, I guess.

After a full year of watching this and reading the manga side by side each week, it’s finally over, what an absolute ride

The anime wasn’t nearly as bad as anyone claimed it to be every week in the forums, the pacing was quite fast, but so was the manga, arguably they probably shouldn’t have animated half a volume an episode for what seems like half the show, but nothing was really skipped, only one fight was censored and it completed the series

Really enjoyable episode, basically the entire character roster gathers together to roast and kinkshame HAO

Will miss the gang

Wtf happened to Chocolove in those 7 years. He looks like he has aged 10 years more than the rest. They could have at least bothered to pick a more fitting seiyuu for his adult self lol.

good enough ending, to defeat Hao in the spirit world you gonna shame or humble him to break his will or break his spirit and thats what happened

the mother of Hao shows up in the end she looks like an adult Anna and also the son of Yoh named Hana

i saw the sequel announcement earlier too so goes to say being Shaman King have a term limit eh like Hao needs to pass on the title of the king later on

The original anime is very important to me so I was very excited when I heard it was getting a remake.

The new anime ended up being a disappointing rushed disaster, I'll recommend others to read the manga or to not bother at all.

I'll give it a 2/10 just because Anna is still the best.

For the most that I hate Horohoro, he have the best "normal" family group, the father who he hates, a drunk bear, and a buff fairy . The best is X-Laws overall.

So Hao have mothercon. And they called his mother on him that's kinda low.

I really want Marco opinion about Jeanne situation.

What a shit ending, the villain was won by his mother, it didn't make sense the whole anime for them to stay strong and fight, the plot that was you becoming the shaman king was literally thrown in the trash.
In terms of romance, it's cool that You break up with Anna but Ren with Maiden, will take the ass
For me shaman king had a very interesting plot, they could have invested a lot in Amidamaru and in the spirits themselves, the beginning of the anime is very good precisely because they invest in the strength of the spirits and there is a stop with muramasa and such, but then they they just don't give a damn about it and the ghosts are left out. If you pay attention, all the pillars of the anime were being destroyed in the end, an anime to make sense it has to have a certain structure, when it gets to that end it gives an impression that this story didn't need to be told, because it has no impact, everything was solved simply.
Now about the soundtrack, particularly I don't have much to complain about, although it lacked in some fights to give some excitement, You's first fight with Silva was very good precisely because it changed the opening of the first version of the anime and after that she was never touched again, which makes me a little upset.
I spent the entire show giving it 7/10 but because of this ending and everything I explained above I have to change the rating to 6/10

PT-BR

Well that was bad.

Seriously though, what a mess. The pacing was mostly rushed as hell making no room for any kind of organic development for neither characters nor story. This wasn't as noticeable at the beginning as it was during the terrible final arc.

This also lead to a variety of off screen tricks that very heavily lessened the impact of any kind of event: fights, resurrections, character introductions, among others. By the end, I had no recollection of who half of the cast was or why they mattered at all.

Actually they did matter for one of the worst displays of "nakama powa" I've seen in a while. It made the whole Shaman fight sound pointless and, imo, the worst organized shounen tournament I've ever seen. Yeah, not even Yu-Gi-Oh! can rival not having a second round, team entering and backing out randomly and the predicted winner being given the crown in the most anticlimatic way.

Regarding the rest, the presentation is average. Lots of still frames mostly during the fights. The soundtrack was ok, shining mostly during the ending sequences. By far the best aspect of the show was the Osorezan arc: neatly paced, expository just enough to keep us engaged, real character dynamics and few characters instead or oversaturation. If only the rest of the series had been like this.

In the end, I felt sour and idsappointed overall, but I've seen worse to classify this as absolutely terrible. Now please, don't remake this again, let it die with the sequel.

Really like the original anime and manga, but this is a hasty mess.
They took out the character development and take it to a full shonen, but they forgot to have excellent or very good battle animations escenes, only got static images.

The only good was five episodes, Princess Jean, Hao, Anna, Horohoro, Chocolove,
and the last part of the last episode that is a part of the one shot where are all grow up
and have childrens.
(i really like if they
make and ova of that or a full episode, but this is really good too.).
And obviusly more episodes that we could see Anna in action :).

The music and special effects where nothing to remember.

My recomendation is forget about this and read the manga.

I am happy about, Shaman King Flowers getting a anime, but if it get the same treatment as this,
I'm going with low expectations.

Horrendous finale. Absurdly fast paced and they sure forced the "power of friendship" + every single 2000s shounen trope to oblivion this time. Not to mention Hao stopping his genocide plan just because he got scolded by his mom is beyond laughable.

Honestly, this adaptation was such a mess. Lots of pacing issues, minimal-to-nonexistent animation during fights and no real sense of danger since death isn't something definitive within this world's narrative.

3/10 - Only redeemable aspects of this failure being Yuuki Hayashi's OST, Matamune's arc and the fact of the characters always staying on-model. The rest was plain forgettable.

I'm sorry, but the unfaithful 2001 OG was infinitely better than this bastardized complete adaptation of a reboot.

The Five Warriors with the overly cliché (but brand new at the time) Power of Friendship + Nakama Power vs. Shaman King Hao, everyone are there as audience to cheer the 5 of them on to finish the Shaman Fight strong.

Opacho sacrificing himself to the Black Hole, and all of the unresolved plot twists are countered with feelings and emotions brought on by a train of people and Hao's mother to put Hao into "kindness" mode with all the begrudging resolved, just like that. This would've worked back in the early 2000s, but it definitely didn't now.

Considering Hana Asakura's inclusion and everyone growing up with some having families (Tao Ren was the "un"expected one, but their VAs didn't really crack their adult voices) in the 7-year timeskip, not surprising to see that Flowers is up to be animated as the sequel (prolly seeing Super Stars as well).

This was a disappointing reinvigoration of a reboot, and for that kind of quality, Fruits Basket (another complete reboot) was the polar masterpiece opposite that I'd hope that Shaman King would've gotten, but this is what we got. What a way to ruin a beloved franchise, other than the sequel coming up, covering multiple source material sequels and spin-offs.

Well, a year later and the anime has come to its conclusion.
All in all, there was only about 10 or so episodes that I liked, the rest was mid at best.
The fights were always very underwhelming, and the anime struggled with bad pacing all the way to the end.

The last episode was one of the better episodes, but not enough to make me change my whole score.

Pacing was fast as fuck, but as someone who didn't watch the original adaptation nor read the manga, I still enjoyed the show. My favorite part of the show is the Osorezan Revoir arc though, I thought that arc was really good.

We got an announcement that their adapting the sequel manga, I guess I am watching that too.

Overall, the animation didn't really bother me, the art, voice acting, soundtrack was good. It was really just the pacing, directing and how they adapted the story that was meh. But again, I still enjoyed it as my first experience with Shaman King. 7/10

Honestly? I don't really see the problem with the ending. The idea that you kill a bunch of people to become a god, and then when you do, the souls of all those come together against you in what's supposed to be your domain, your personal little playground? And then even your long-dead mother appearing, because, well, it's the afterlife, and you're able to reconcile? If this doesn't make sense, I don't know what does.

Now, to be fair: yes, it was done the cheesiest way possible; yes, some of those characters, not to mention ideas and problems and issues and root causes could and should have been introduced/established a lot sooner in the anime. But it's not like others of the genre don't get cheesy, especially in their endings, more than enough to point fingers at. And things being rushed and the pacing being all over the place have been overarching problems of the anime (I think even of the manga). In fact I'd argue the pacing being all over the place is something that plagues at least half of every anime series. And there are more than enough elements here that also present elsewhere, so if you overlook them elsewhere, don't call them out here either. Especially considering how old this story is - yeah, things have changed a lot, but "modernisation" of the story was never the aim here, so keep that in mind.

Personally, I liked the fanservice moments too, although perhaps it was a touch overdone. But then again, this was the last episode, gotta go all out, I guess. And honestly, it's not like we didn't know how it would play out, so there wasn't much of a suspense in that sense either, to begin with. All that could be done is to make it a fun last ride: in my view, they managed that. Except for that weird structure of the second half, probably, where we abruptly timeskip into the future and have a chunk of the fight sandwiched between scenes of their later life. That was a bit jarring - ESPECIALLY WITH THOSE ADULT DESIGNS like holy hell those are beyond redemption, especially paired with their regular voices to boot. The only one not objectively awful is Ren and I'm pretty sure most of that, too, only boils down to him just wearing a regular suit.

Overall, I was all sorts of anxious and apprehensive, and even put off watching it longer than necessary, but eventually I enjoyed the episode.

Shaman King is my childhood and will always be one of my favourites.
That's why it gets a nostalgia 10/10.
I had a good time seeing my favourite characters again one more time. And we also get a sequel!

Nevertheless I prefer the old anime. It had better fights, more comedy and fillers which made it lovely and fun to watch. It wasn't rushed. And more Hao content lol.
The only thing in 2021 I liked better is the graphics, the design is amazing. Everything else I don't know about.

Well, what do you know, Hao actually won! Interesting ending. This being an old shonen I was sure Yoh would become the Shaman King but nope! Props to my manga-reader best friend who watched it with me and withheld this spoiler for a whole year lol

I didn't watch the old Shaman King but I liked this one. Yoh is a really cool MC, I loved his chilled attitude through the whole show, quite the change from the hype shonen MC such as Naruto, Luffy, Goku...
My favorite arc was definitely Osorezan Revoir, it was so good! And Matamune is best boy! Also the song for the poem is so BEAUTIFUL!

And it's finally over, this was a hell of a ride!! I even remember poking after watching ep 12 for the rush they made on those eps -.-

But now that this ended I can sure say that the story is good, the presentation they made was awful, one of the worse that I have ever seen (just a comparison I prefer Peter Grill to this one) but the story itself, not many can reach its levels.

One of the things that surprised me was Ren having a child with Iron Maiden! Let's go mah boy!! The guy knows what, how, and who to choose!!

For the sequel... I can only say this... if the studio and the directors stay the same as this one I will NOT watch it! This was enough painfully to watch, but I knew it had an awesome story. The sequel I don't know shag about it, but I know for sure that I will not pass for another rushed hell like this one again!

6/10 I would (never) be rushed for a full year again!
For the ones that like to bother others (like me) with "you should read the manga/LN", please stop. I don't read mangas, I will NOT read mangas, I will not listen to what manga readers complain in adaptation to the anime counterpart, I only watch anime except in very few and specific situations.

LOL

Hao getting slapped by her mom was funny.

And still LOL @ Manta... YUP, he'll never grew any higher.

(also, the time skip isn't that bad, mostly cause some of us already read the manga)

This is a transition for the series to move to the sequel.

___ ___ ___

And some of the stuff they "time skipped" is used as a plot point in the sequel, so they can't show us everything they did between the time at the end of Shaman Fight and the beginning of Shaman Flowers

(the author did this on purpose, cause the original ended early and the Final end was later added, but after it ended early, the author decide to just do a time skip to Yoh's kid and added in the Time Skipped stuff as Flashbacks)

The most interesting part was seeing them grown up adults though they looked TOO adult ahaha it's like they are all 2 matters tall and Chocolove WTF we don't even recognize him at all... and well sure very nice to see Yoh and Anna's son and Ren's one as well, now they'll be making a sequel about Yoh's son so we'll see how it goes.
This remake was definitely disappointing compared to the OG anime, it felt way too rushed and even the production as a whole felt weak, still it had some good moments and everyone it's still a fine anime I would say but nothing compared to how good felt the OG. 6/10

Well, I kinda like original anime ending more. These endings about power of friendship are kinda boring. Dead characters returning in the end to say goodbye is not a very exciting way to end the anime either. I enjoyed first part of the show that was more like original anime but second part is pretty bad in my opinion.

I don't think I ever saw the original anime but I did read the manga in early shonen jumps. The pacing felt extremely fast, it was mad goofy and random where things just happened just cause.

Though I'm glad this got a ending and I liked everyone's future selves. Though didn't they say 7 year time skip? While everyone looking like it was 15 year time skip lol

I enjoyed it and while it was more like 6.5, I'll round it to a 7.

Finally finished! Took me months to try and finish the series since it was so bad but I really wanted to watch such a nostalgic series. Even though I didn’t like the pacing, or the fights I at least liked the show until the people started coming back to life. Everything after just became dull. To the point where I skipped all the patch right episodes and skipped to the last episode. Pretty cool to see them grow up though!

It started airing last year so it can't be really called nostalgic.
I’m referring to the 2001 version and the manga.

I'm going to miss this anime but a SEQUEL got announced!

is it a second season or a sequel manga? I haven't actually watched it yet but seeing 32 volumes adapted into 52 episodes makes me kinda nervous.
