Despite a lot of the action, comedy, and suspense being underwhelming, I did like Khun's betrayal at the end, pretty solid twist. Bam shows a little more personality, not much but still welcomed. Some character development from the side characters a little, but still pretty average tier.
Didn't dislike this episode, found it OK. Still underwhelming though.

This was an average episode. The animation was weaker this episode than the previous action oriented episodes. The test is starting to make more sense but seems a little convoluted and pretty much just seems like a way to justify certain characters making it through (assuming they do make it through).

Khun’s plan was very well thought out but a little predictable and he was pretty lucky it turned out so well since he was making quite a few assumptions that weren’t a guaranteed bet. The ending cliffhanger of the episode was well placed. I am curious to see what will transpire next episode.

I personally think that this test is the weakest test so far.

The series still refuses to develop the main character, so I hope that sometime later in this season he gets more development.

Lots of good ole fashioned mind games in this show. A few times this episode where I gasped from surprise. Khun the master tactician, truly best boi. Loved seeing Team A tale on Quant in this test, they had some good ideas really. I like exploring more of the side characters beyond our main there and this show has done great with that continuing here. Shibisu getting nervous to Serena and Hoh having that short conversation.

Most of the characters we love at this point seem poised to pass the test regardless of the outcome since they have enough points but those tertiary characters might not so it's good to see them genuinely concerned. Serena quick backstory was sad mixed with her wavering resolve to climb the tower. Becoming so attached to all these people they've come to know, didn't like the look Hoh gave her after that. His mental state has deteriorated and now idk what he might do, music indicated something nefarious but we'll see.

Speaking of, love the music during this test. A chase deserves badass music and this episode brought it. Loved the music this whole show with Kevin Penkin doing amazing work. Khun having the strategy to "betray his team", but not really, was an awesome twist! Makes sense he'd protect his real friends and not this hodgepodge team the admins through together. Bringing back the scouts friends list to show they're a tight knit bunch now. Having team A lose that way Team B can learn from that and let Bam pass the test. But now what is Endorsi up to with her own plan.

There were so many twists and turns in this episode. It was honestly great. Cannot wait to see the conclusion of this test next week. Or least if it is done by next week.

Also yes, MORE CHOCOLATE!

The Hide-and-Seek arc is well underway this episode: Ranker Quant vs. the tower participants, the true fruits of the training of the various Positions.

In the face of the test, as Leroro and Yu Han Sung watches the players face Quant's "Shinsoo is Unbreakable" wrath, it's Khun and Co.'s ways to fight through this unfair game that will render their victory of defeat...it's fight together or risk being unconscious by the professor.

To Bam and Androssi though, it's a huge risk. Khun's Team A wins, and Bam's Team B journey is terminated on the spot, or otherwise they may as well have a good chance to continue the path up the Tower.

Good try Shibisu, you did well to play Quant off and buy some time for the team's "it" Anak, and Khun the Light Bearer decoy. Nevertheless, mindgames and such, Khun's team won the (mind) game, but lost the (tag) war test. With Lauroe and Khun's decision to backstab the (test made) team whilst hiding his TRUE team, I've gotta say, GGWP Khun.

And now, team B with Bam, Androssi and the others. Having experienced Quant's actions through Khun's team, they'd have a better plan. And Androssi immediately starts her betrayal...with Ho still being suspicious of his actions towards Bam: same positions, one will pass, and the other will fail.

For Serena to almost lose her life to a Ranker, that was scary, but thanks to Headon giving her the opportunity to climb the Tower, it was a good purposeful one. Question is, who could that Ranker who murdered her friends be, and if he/she'll come again anytime soon.

Things are still going at a very fast pace, and this arc's still haven't seen the end of it yet.

Not sure why they decided to change it to khun duplicating his lighthouse and thus skipping the explination on what lighthouses actually are. Im assumimg its to cut down on time so they could cover more of the actual plot in the episode but at the same time, they were willing to just add a bunch of scenes of Rak just eating chocolate, and i feel like that joke has already gotten old.

This episode was a good episode with Khun just playing with rankers. They did change a decent amount from the original, but it was just some details that aren't too important. Other than that, the music was GREAT, and the animation was ok.

I am really looking forward to the next episode but I am a bit worried about transitions in the next episode though.

Also, is it just me that thought it was weird that Ghost was just eating with Rak???

Solid episode. Animation wasn't too great but I loved the backgrounds used for this episode, and the lighting was nice. The actual stuff that happened changed a bit, but actually for the better when trying to fit it into anime form. The music was great as usual.

I will say, the one thing I wasn't a fan of with this episode was where it ended. It did come across pretty damn anticlimactic, and bizarre. But I'm interested to see how this game would play out next.

Pretty confusing episode. I don't understand the rules of the game as usual. They really need to explain them more clearly. They get 100,000 points split between the members of the team if their "it" reaches the goal, but how many are needed to pass? Why are some people already guaranteed to pass? I guess Yoru and Endorsi don't have enough points from previous tests because they spent them all on food/healing injuries? Also not sure why Team A winning would have been bad for Team B, aren't their tests done independently?

Aaaaand the Tower of Betrayal begins. Where betrayal meets another betrayal.

That aside, the thing that really bothers me is the amount of subtle changes and omission of details that causes several characters to have a different characteristic. While I understand omitting of details can't be help when adapting it to an anime, I observe that some of characters have added/different behaviour in the anime, and it kinda irks me a little, it feels like they are not the same character. Having binged through the tag game last week in webtoons (I just wanted to watch one scene but ended up going way beyond that), I actually became really disappointed. Before, I was still enjoying the anime despite knowing it was lacking with the characters feeling slightly different. Probably a bad idea to re-read the webtoon lol.

The episode, or perhaps the anime as a whole, is really underwhelming, even when not comparing to its webtoon but as an anime itself. If I'm someone who has never read ToG before, I might have already drop the anime a couple of episodes ago. Like many non webtoon reader has mention, the characters feels shallow and insignificant.

With that said, if you have only watched the ToG anime and you love it so far, do give the Webtoon a chance! Every chapter/episode is fully colored and the panel style is different from manga, so do give it a shot!

Looks like this will be a game of hide and seek, the main goal is Anaak, and it seems like the brain behind all this is Khun. The strategy he used was apparently futile because Oni was very strong and they were unable to hold it in. Looks like the Rak eating contest will be very exciting in my opinion, lol.

It seems like the plan made by Khun had failed and he wanted to apologize to his friends, I thought that would be the case but in the end it seemed that Khun was betraying his friends. Khun made a deal that made him betray, I saw him smile a little.

Yeah, it seems they gloss over the rules and leave it confusing but I think with regards to passing or not from this test, it was mentioned in the previous episode that they were evaluated individually. Which ties in to your question about why team a winning is bad for team b. Maybe they employ a first come first serve basis? If team A wins, the positions left available will be taken by them? Assuming that there are limited slots but I don't even know.

Regulars gain points individually in their respective positions tests/classes, and the likes of Khun, Lauroe, Shibisu, Hatz etc are at the top of their classes so they are pretty much guaranteed that they would pass.

As for the Hide and Seek game, if the "it" from the participating team reaches the exit before the Ranker or steals the Ranker's badge the team wins, and if the Ranker steals the badge from the team they would lose. And if team A won, team B would've failed the Hide and Seek game. Khun knew he would pass anyway, so he helped Bam whose points were pretty low.

Before this test they each attend lessons for the respective role that they train for. So, for instance, Rak did exceptionally well for his role, so he does not need to attend the test. There are of course, others that are guaranteed to pass the test too, but are not explicitly being told that they are exempted from the test. However, it seems like they have the information to calculate their scores. From there I guess they can predict if they even need to do well for the test in order to pass.

As you know, they each have their own roles. If I'm not wrong, only certain number of them in their role are allowed to pass. So between fisherman, not all fisherman can pass the test. The bottom few in that role will not pass the floor. You can think of it as this test carries a high weightage to pass this floor. There are other categories that contributes to the overall weightage.

You have to get the person from their team who is 'it' to escape without being caught by the red-head ranker. They have to wear a badge and the ranker has to press it, then the team loses. If the team gets the rankers badge and does this, then they pass. Hope that helps ^^

The test lasts until one of the following happens:

The Regular team's "It" escapes through one of the two exits.
One of the two "Its" has their badge touched by the other "It".
The three hour time limit passes.

Conditions for victory:

The Regular team's "It" escapes through one of the exits.
The examiner "It" (Quant) has their badge touched by the Regular team's "It".

Conditions for loss:

The Regular team's "It" has their badge touched by examiner "It".
The three hour time limit runs out.

Additional rules:

The Regular team's "It" must be a Fisherman.
The two "Its" must wear the badge.
The examiner "It" (Quant) cannot attack people in the safe zone.

I will not agree that the webtoon is not better. Yes the Webtoon explains in a lot more detail of what is happening. But to explain all that in anime form would double the length of episode and episode would be full of just expedition dumbs something that be pretty boring to watch.
But from what I seen most of the anime only viewers are enjoying this version a lot. If your expecting a direct adaptation you are going be disappointed but as adaptations good it is a good one, not prefect but good.

I see, I did suspect that their points from before matter, although it's surprising Shibisu is at the top of his class.

In regards to Team B failing if Team A were to win, that's rather unfair considering Team A seemingly got to go first for no reason, which is a massive advantage in this case. I suppose the real test is to see if the scouts were able to establish their friendships, which they could then use to sabotage whatever team they're assigned to in this test and let their actual comrades win? Perhaps this arrangement does make sense, then. In any case, thanks for clearing that up.

That does make sense, every previous test seemed to have the purpose of pruning some more of the Regulars.

Basically somebody on the team and the ranker get a badge. If the team gets the rankers badge or if they manage to have the person with their badge reach one of the exits, they gain a lot of points (200k for catching the ranker and 100k for escaping, if i remember correctly) but if the ranker steals their badge, they lose. The ranker is also mega nerfed, only being able to use a certain amount of shinsu whilst also not being able to use that shinsu to reinforce their body.

I have only one suggestion for anime-only people, that is if you enjoy the anime, please read the webtoon from the BEGINNING. The adaption of the hide and seek arc is indeed underwhelming.

The author of the anime also successfully created another plothole in the adaptation. It was mentioned that Anak had already enough points to pass the test. Why? maybe because she fell from the platform with Androssi in the previous episode and lost a plethora of points! Why is she adding nonsense to the adaptation?

Khun is literally the only bright spot for me in this show at this point. What disappoints me is how the adaptation DID NOT elaborate enough on how his plan worked, because with the way it went and executed itself, as well as the fact that it was still rather lackluster, explanations were clearly necessary.

The episode ended VERY oddly, too, which isn't particularly good in terms of directing.

I see that Endorsi has been hyped up quite a bit, which probably stems from how her personality can ring with many people, which will definitely be supplemented when they slap in her backstory in the next episodes. However, while I don't actually hate her, she feels very uninspiring. Like, there's something about character personas like this slapped with a self-serious backstory to boot that often really gives off a bitter taste for me, personally. Often feels like the show would be forcing me to care instead of letting or allowing me to care. Just my honest opinion, though.

In the end, my overall impressions have not significantly changed. I heard the dub will explain stuff better, but the overall atmosphere and cast would still be the main issues I have, so not really sure if the dub is worth checking out in full. Plus I'm not really a dub guy, anyway :\

Yeap, that was what I'm trying to imply, the fact that it can't be help. Sorry if it wasn't clear.

But the main issue I'm having is that the characters are behaving a bit differently, that I would interpret their personality differently. This is likely due to the extra details added in, omission of some details, and also likely due to the way the anime cuts the scene (transition and stuffs). I know they can't and shouldn't so a perfect adaptation, but I feel that some of the key and core aspect of the ToG element is missing.

Just my 2 cents though, my subjective opinion.

I completly agree. The show should have me more invested 8 episodes in, but I feel like it constantly falls short of my expectations. Kinda weird since I am not familiar with the source material.

Biggest issue being that there is no greater theme to the show (at least for now).
-climbing the tower is the thing everybody does on the side
-Bam does not progress the 'plot' as a protagonist
-the princesses of Jahad are mere participants; tower politics are not the point either
-Side characters could be something to be invested in, but the show tells me not to
-Rachel is here but on the sideline, so it is not romance either

So what's the point? I will keep watching and wait for something to happen but this is sooo far off organic storytelling.

This episode further enforces Khun as my favorite character. When I heard Khun 'apologizing' I was laughing so hard because I could tell that he was the one who betrayed Team A. You go, blue turtle.

Favorite scenes this episode definitely feature Khun's manipulation. There's also when Rak kept insisting that Khun had a plan (of course he did, he's Khun) and when Bam cheered at Khun's intelligence. Whoever the anime director is, please make them canon even though they weren't in the manhwa. Fanfiction does not satisfy me enough.

Only good moment was Khun's betrayal. Animation is getting very poor.

The problem is not that the adaptation isn't a 1:1 perfect copy of the source material, but the fact that they're changing the personality/behavior of some characters and dumbing them down in terms of intelligence (e.g. Quant). Also, the anime is adding unnecessary scenes like the one in this episode with the eating contest/challenge between Rak and the other Spearbearer instead of using that time more effectively and, for example, explain the range of manipulation for a LightBearer and his lighthouses, what kind of material lighthouses are made of and how they are able to just fly in the air/Shinsu etc.

WTH is this episode?! It's mind blowing and entertaining! A betrayal but not actually betrayal. The real team within a team! Best Boy Khun thought of that!

This episode was pretty damn good and Khun is without a doubt the best character in the show(he is kinda carrying it, not gonna lie), but you know what is even better, this comment section.

You have the readers who think the anime sucks, the readers who think the anime is a masterpiece, the anime-only watchers who think this is the worst anime ever, the anime-only watchers who think this is the best anime ever, this is such a party. This makes everything so much more funny.

Gotta say the twist was really awesome at the end. It kept playing with my expectations and I loved it.

Somehow though while the OST is great it just seemed to change too rapidly this episode, almost felt like it didn't flow as well as I would have liked.

Overall great episode as usual.

That shibisu blush was super cute xD also I really LOVE khun's VA.
