Feels like those 80s action movies where they bring the hero out of retirement.

So high school girls with big cannons...magical girls with ptsd...catchy OST...and the usual dark twist of blood, violence and gore...this could be either surprisingly decent as Magical Girl Raising Project or as bad as Magical Girl Site. Where this series will go is unknown. The first 3 minutes feels like a betrayal since the foundation and what could have been the main arc of the story was told already in a flashback...but this could be a decent one. Think this might be a binge series as opposed to a weekly one for me. The OST is lit and yuri vibes may be a thing here.
Don't believe the hype.

This anime is something like Devil is a Part timer.
Both are those that defeat Maou and nothing to do.
One become part timer and one become a tool for country.

At first I thought the enemy plushies were ridiculous, then they brought the dismembered parts of Asuka's parents. Damn...

So far looks fine. Magical girls against criminals and evil magical girls, not something I have watched so much (wouldn't be surprised if somehow the evil plushies would reappear later). I like the character designs too, they look very cute.

Edgy as expected (and I like edgy so that's alright) but not bad and far-fetched as Mahou Shoujo Site. First episode was enjoyable and I liked the mc, she has very pretty eyes too. I'll continue watching this for at least a few more episodes, I hope it continues to be entertaining.

At least the military managed to get the girls in position. Though the cost for the girls have been high too. Seems Asuka also has flashbacks to the war. Asuka's close combat skills sure came in handy though. But to think that Asuka lost her parents during that war as well. The enemy's tactics sure were vile. Given that trauma its no wonder Asuka doesn't want to fight again. Man things sure got real when the prison van was stormed. Though Asuka was determined to not fight anymore it seems that fate is intent on forcing her too. Still at least Asuka by doing so is able to protect her friends from harm. A decent first ep and im curious to see the types of enemies that Asuka and the team will face.

It was actually really good. Most of the military stuff like the small arms were on point, and the adaptation from the manga was done well. OST was catchy and it fit, much like the OST in other recent anime like Goblin Slayer.

I also really like how it focuses on the psychological aspect and Asuka's PTSD-like symptoms that she has to deal with after the "conclusion" of the story. I think it is fairly rare in that aspect and I think that it has a lot of potential depending on how they actually develop that.

I don't have any complaints about the animation. Is it AAA? No. However, is it trash? Not in my opinion. It is good enough not to distract me away from the story and the action.

Looking forward to future episodes!

I'll be honest, I picked this up because the mc is thicc and got mesmerizing eyes but at this rate they might get a pretty good story out of it as well. (plus the music is good too). Also, Asuka kinda reminds me of Alice from Madness Returns with the dress and while she is not fighting with a knife it's pretty close lol.

I'll stick around.

First thing I have to say of this... there were a lot of creepy things in this episode, the massive doll like creatures, then those small ones and not even to mention what that square with the human head was suppose to be, a Trophy? XD

Either way, I am interested. I like Asuka as a character so far, tough time in middle school, when her enemies hurt (killed?) her parents :(

As expected from the PV, it was gonna be a Mahou Shoujo with a lot of gore and dark stuff. Good start so far though, I like it!

Let me start this comment by saying that I don't have much experience with "magical girl" shows, so I wouldn't know what to expect from this show. The "magical girl" genre normally emphasizes bright colors, cutesy environment, whimsical stories and things that wouldn't look out of place in a Disney movie, so when this show was announced to have a dark and edgy atmosphere, I kinda expected it to try to be serious while still ultimately holding to the genre's tropes and conventions. I never expected this show to feature intense violence, on-screen blood and acts of terrorism, all in the first episode. Apparently, the magical girls in this show will not confront aliens or magical creatures; instead, their enemies are criminals and terrorists. This is not something you'd show to kids. Normally, I try to stay away from violent and overly cynical shows, but this one looks good. When a lighthearted and soft story goes the dark and gritty route, it normally ends up looking stupid and gets lost in its own self-importance, so hopefully, this will not be the case here.

Wished they showed that three years ago in full, because it seems interesting. I think also the story isn't bad so far, the action is good, the magic is there and animation is also good. As for the characters I could live with them.

This mahou shoujo has taken a different route, so I guess I will keep on watching. Good episode by the way.

this sure was a anime didn't expect it to be so brutal but in this day and age it's the trend of magical girls shows, but this one has a twist the monsters are gone and now it's just international crime and heavily military focused.

if i hear good things ill continue until then i dont need anymore stressful shows to watch

Since you’re new to the magical girl genre, let me just fill you in on some info:

There have been a number of dark magical girl shows in the last few years. It’s become a trend now for magical girl shows to omit the light-hearted, cutesy elements that are present in many of the classic shows, and feature dark and psychological elements instead.

If you’re curious, check out Madoka Magica. That’s the show that basically started this whole “dark, edgy magical girl” trend. Almost every magical girl show that came out since Madoka Magica have all been dark twists of the magical girl genre. It was the first show to be a deconstruction of the genre, and many others since then have all followed suit.

This show has legitimately some of the worst character designs I've ever witnessed. Like, what the hell is wrong with those eyes?

Also, I don't know if LIDENFILMS is kinda fatigued after Habebado! and Juliet from the previous two seasons but the animation of this episode was almost uncharacteristically bad for them. They tend to start their shows on high notes and then steadily go down with the quality. This is down from the very beginning.

Higurashi Gou is the worst anime in existence.

I found out about this anime by chance and I wasn't expecting much, but it was surprisingly very enjoyable. We'll see how this goes but based on the first episode this looks like the type of brutal cute girls shows I'm into.

I think what annoyed me the most was, based on the OP, NONE of the girls changed their hairstyles in 3 years. lol Unless their hair is connected to the transformation but Asuka's har looks the same...

Interesting concept, and I didn't hate it, but the attempts at making edgy dramatic scenes relating to Asuka's past struggles fell flat to me due to some pretty bland shot composition, pacing, editing and voice acting. Action choreography and animation was nothing special, I'm fine with limited animation techniques in action scenes, but the posing and framing needed to be a lot better and some added visual flair in some way goes a long way to make that stuff actually work.

They rushed through her opening up to her new friends as well, which made her hang ups about her past seem less serious and felt kind of unnatural in general, and it seems like they just needed a way to push the plot forward and get her to fight again, so used this to do so, despite this pretty much resolving her main conflict before it can have some impact and we get some time to grow to care about her. Her randomly avoiding her new friend after they opened up so quickly was pretty jarring and seemed like a contrivance just to set up a scene they wanted to throw in.

The whole thing seems half baked at the moment, but I will see where it goes because I like girls with guns, stories involving heroes past their prime, and I actually find Asuka's design kind of nice.

Finally a magical girl show I can get into... Though this will probably end up being one of those shows that I enjoy if I don't take it too seriously.

Firstly, Asuka seems like a cliched war veteran character, and the whole plot of the first episode was an incredibly unoriginal copy-and-paste job from the countless other shows/movies that have an expert or veteran come out of retirement.

But aside from that, I do like the concept of magical girls fighting terrorist/civil wars/international crime, and I am glad that they are not still fighting those ridiculous stuffed animal enemies that they showed at the beginning. Anyway, it seems nice and edgy so it gets a thumbs up from me so far.

What's the difference?

I like the hardened look that they gave her eyes. It's a bit goofy looking, but it easily enough conveys "I've seen some shit" when you compare it to the wide eyes of her friends. Curious to see where the show goes, given that the current feel is "Modern war story through a magical girl lens."

An interesting start. The Disas sure are evil and they remind me of the Entrail Animals from Kämpfer.

The terrorist shouldn't have caused trouble in her town, it cost him dearly.

Though I feel sorry for Asuka, all she wanted was a normal life.

I have a bad feeling about that actually. Asuka should have killed the terrorist right there, because now that man knows that the girl Asuka saved is a friend. He might come back someday to get revenge on Asuka's friend.

dang man

this Mahou Shoujo series is dark... REAL DARK

(thought it was going to be about Girls fighting against invaders with the help of other world beings and kawaii mascots...

but then it turns out to be some edgy shit with high death rate that fights against Real World terrorists ( since the time skip suggests they already finished the other world invaders (the plush killers))

I guess that's why the title says they're "Special OPs"... like the "Special OPs" we have in the real world...

___ ___ ___

I might watch a few more episodes, but if it gets too crazy, I might just drop it. (same as how I dropped Shield Hero, too edgy for me)
