THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Dang, emotions really are running high this episode/series.

I still like the attitude of this show though in particular for the main guys trying to make a name of themselves. And in the meantime, I'm guessing they're preparing more of the upcoming episodes for the competition.

Eating feast after the running.

They do discuss and improve. He plans to attend next run.

Main guy thinks they are not serious.

The two who have experience with running knows their own problem, and went on their own pace.

Otaku guy is searching for a machine to run in the room.

lol @ twins, stretching with the erotic voice.

Long hair senpai is putting himself to danger and matches w. senpai guy's practice plan even though he knows his condition.

Otaku guy found a god. Someone not wanting to use the machine and he can get it for free!

Main guy frustrated over not running fast. Senpai guy saying being fast is not everything because others are serious in their own ways.

Main guy to the limit and pressures otaku guy to run fast or getting out of the team.

Kakeru is really sensitive about his speed. I don't exactly know why exactly this is a wrong thing to worry about but I will love to learn it from the show.

I kinda really want to see how the team will build their chemistry and will work together to win since everyone has their weaknesses, including Kakeru who we saw his possible weakness this episode. We can see that everyone tries to win their weaknesses bit by bit and because the show takes its time to do so, I think it has built the characters really well. And I hope to see Kakeru develop soon.

A bit drama in the end there...

Soundtrack is releasing December 19 and I need it.

Instead of telling Prince to stop running on treadmill that disturb his private time, Kakeru choose to go outside instead. Kakeru is not just about speeding himself but also ready to make some sacrifice if it can speed up his teammate as well. It look like next week he'll be paired with Prince to run together due to Haiji's order.

IMO his obsession with speed is a bad and dangerous influence for the rest of the team. Everyone starts at a different fitnesslevel and you have to build from there. Thats what Haiji is trying to do. But Kakeru can't or doesn't want to accept that and even asked poor Ouji to leave the team. He expects everyone to train 24/7 and reach the level he had to train probably years for. His attitude is toxic for the moral of the team.

At this point in the anime, I'd agree. He's actually over-training himself which is why his time isn't improving and this can actually make him slower if he keeps it up. His eye's look tired and his body isn't able to recover properly with what he's doing. He needs to chill and listen to Haiji.

Dat Ashita no Joe reference, lmao. Prince is a true man of culture xD Also for the idea with the treadmill, I did it once too, but with a bike ergometer.

Awesome episode again. I was all with Kakeru, I can feel his frustration and why he's pushing himself so hard. The others aren't as ambitious as him, so I can see why they made excuses, still was cool to see them hanging in.

However, asking Prince to leave the team if he doesn't improve was a bit too much :/

It would be so hype if he's going to surprise everyone with a new record time. Go Prince.

This episode shocked me honestly.

Had me audibly yelling ''stfu'' at Kakeru. Honestly he got a screw loose since he ran at the track meet. And he hit a nerve with Haiji obviously.

Telling Prince to stop running is just a fucking asshole move after he actually wanted to buy a treadmill (his scenes in this episode were very funny btw with the twins).

Yuki is just so level-headed, he's probably the most likable character as of now together with Prince. He cares for the team, especially for Nico who got egged on by Kakeru to run faster.

Prince's face at the end was actually a bit heartbreaking.

That was painful to watch, I had to pause several times, because Kakeru's behaviour was just too much. Basing on next ep's preview maybe Kakeru will be asked to leave if he doesnt change or sth like that.
I'm kind of worried, but at the same time I think it would be interesting if there was some kind of consequences of Kakeru's too long running marathons. Maybe fainting, not breaking his ankle I hope.
Haiji seems worried yet angry at Kakeru at the same time. His reference to take shinkansen or plane made good point.

I like all of them.
Except one.
Kakeru.
The fucking main characters.
He's such a dick, when someone wants to do something he starts telling him that he's unable to do that, because Kakeru is buffed, so he can act like a superior person, right?
Fuck him.

Man Kakeru needs to chill out.

I wonder how many episode's it'll take for him to stop being like that, you can almost tell that there is gonna be a huge fight, probably between Haiji and Kakeru.
I bet Kakeru will disappear for a bit and keep running for like, an entire day non stop and then come back to realise he needs to change.

Also the bit with Haiji getting mad at Kakeru about speed makes me think that maybe Haiji went through a similar thing, and that was where he got his injury from. He looked kind of sad when he was saying that part, so it'll be interesting to see if that's the case or not.

Haiji is definately my favourite, just because he always acts cheerfully with a massive grin on his face. I also like his green jacket and the other green clothing he wears casually.

Damn, that was a really heavy episode.

Kakeru's really worked up after losing last episode, he wants to run as fast as he can, I can understand where he's coming from and why he would feel annoyed that his team is so much weaker than him when he himself lost but the final part where he asked Prince to quit was way too harsh. He was totally out of line there, especially after Prince decided to get a treadmill.

Even Nico-chan-senpai is being egged on by Kakeru since he was in the track team previously. I think Haiji was right in raising his voice against Kakeru saying he's lost sight of himself.

Let's hope Kakeru can pull it together.

The Prince, Twins + Nico scene was glorious.

This episode was so good!

I mean, Kakeru went back to being an insufferable jerk, but that's because he never ran as a team, but shouldn't he be getting used to it already? I really liked his discussion with Haiji because he said it to his face, that he lost himself, and that his approach to running isn't right, that it isn't just about being fast, and that he is acting in a really contemptible way with his fellow teammates. I can't believe he asked Prince to quit the team after all of the trouble Haiji had to convince him, after Prince stood up for him and the others, shutting up that redheaded demon, after Prince was finally motivated, after they were finally a team, of nine because Kakeru is terrible, I can't. He was also aggressive with the manager too, really rude, he is the worst.

I also LOVED the Ashita no Joe reference, I would be so mad with the spoiler if I hadn't watched it already. I know it's been out for decades, but still. Nico-chan-senpai is really acting like Rikiishi though, trying to lose weight like that, this can't end well. The twins pleasin-, I mean, massaging each other was so funny, and kind of cute too. And again about Haiji's discussion with Kakeru, but it's easy to guess now that he was just like Kakeru in the past, thinking only about getting faster, and that's most certainly how he got that wound; this is getting better, and better.

Finally we're starting to see the true problems Kakeru faces with teamwork. I really hope his evolution will be well-handled by the author. If it's the case, this anime could really be very good.

This episode illustrated and confronted a lot of harsh realities and real issues: Nico-sempai's struggles with weight, to the point of undereating when he's undertaking a more grueling training regimen; Kakeru plateauing with his running times despite his goal obsessions that drive him to practically overtraining; Kakeru directly addressing the elephant in the room, the seemingly inane idea of Prince achieving the running feats set before him.

In illustrating all that, the character interactions and character development really shined here. I love the concern Yuki has for Nico-sempai, the encouragement and drive Kakeru shared with Nico-sempai in their running endeavors, and the loud support the twins showed for Prince.

I love the series' depiction of dreams versus reality, and I'm excited for an inspiring and optimistic Ep. 9 after the harshness and realness Ep. 8 set up!

Kakeru deserved to be yelled like that, if he were my son I would beat him so hard that he would plead for mercy lol. He's being way too selfish and unfair with the team, can't believe he said that to Prince. Someone's need to slap Kakeru a bit of realism for him to open his eyes and see what's wrong with his obsession.

Personally, If Kakeru, of all the guys, gets injured due to his overtraining, I will literally laugh my ass off. Man, what a toxic person he is.

I didn't expect him to be this obsessed... but that's no excuse for acting rude towards his teammates and Hana. And not to mention what he said to Prince. He just need to chill the fuck out.

Aside from Kakeru acting like a dick during the whole episode, it was an interesting one. The OST was gold and the interaction between the characters were really good as well. I was also expecting Prince to give Kakeru an appropriate response, like when he did with that guy Sakaki but well. I guess that will happen in the next episode.

Kakeru is one speed obsessed bastard and it seems Haiji won't change his mind at that. Telling Prince if he'd quit if he did the same time, I really hope would answer back at the next episode. Anyways, congratulations to Prince for acquiring a treadmill, maybe that will improve his race in the next meet. I'm rooting for him.

So yeah Kakeru is obsessed with running faster after getting beat in the last meet, as well as thinking the rest of his team needs to step up their game since none of them qualified. He's over working himself and has had negative impacts on Nico as well. You could clearly see bags under both their eyes. Kakeru needs to understand that everyone is working at their own pace. There's a reason Haiji is always running in the back with prince when he could clearly be out near the front. I'm hoping prince will tell Kakeru to screw off next ep.

Kakeru ran after eating. Isn't that kind of bad? I am not athletic at all, so I might be wrong.

I didn't think that Haiji appreciated everyone's efforts. He is actually a good guy, isn't he?

Two of the characters have dark circles under their eyes. That is never a good sign in anime.

Ouji looked so shocked when Kakeru asked him to quit. I guess he is also interested in running after all.

Imo people here are too harsh on Kakeru. Guess many simply can't relate to him at all or won't try to look at it from his pov.

Admittedly, Prince is putting in some effort, but effort is simply not enough, when they have a clear goal.

In other cases they would've asked him to leave from the very beginning, no wait, they just would've kicked him from the roaster, that's how it works.

The fight was the best part. Haiji is a very astute person and he's addressing a huge problem with Kakeru. Trying to make him understand the reason for his drive, which we don't really know yet, but it seems to be something that getting faster won't actually fix.

Damn, every episode of this show is amazing and Prince never fails to entertain me....Also all those piles are somehow in an order....you magnificent madman.
Kakeru is pushing himself way too hard and has clearly been tainted on his views on running by his coach. I love Haiji's response to him though, also from the pan to his leg I can guess he had his own problems with trying to run too fast and that's how he hurt his leg. I also like getting more info on Akihiro. I can see him having problems if he's trying to push himself too hard and not eating enough.

I'm behind Kakeru on this. If they were just running for fun, then nothing would be wrong with slow and steady, each at their own pace, however much time it takes (clearly years in Prince's case, duh). But they're not running for fun, they're running for results (without some impressive results, it's impossible to even participate in the Ekiden qualifier) in order to have a try at a very high goal, and with very little time left. So I see nothing wrong with Kakeru's reasoning. If anything, I'm at a complete loss about Haiji's reasoning. His goal is just objectively impossible to reach in the given time without some major drastic measures (and that includes dropping hopeless runners off the team and replacing them with those who can compete)
