Personally, it's not the edgy shit itself which annoys me. I loved Madoka Magica which was also edgy. The difference with Madoka is that there was depth in it. It made you think about things like sacrifice and that being a good person can actually be more negative than positive for oneself (like with Sayaka and Kyoko). It left a deep psycological impact on me. In contrast, MSS at first sight gave me the impression that it was being edgy for the sake of it, making the protagonist go through all bad things as possible in the episode time they had; I know though that with only one episode this impression could be mistaken. But I could go along with the edgy tone if it was not for another thing, which is what truly annoys me: This shit is real (the bullying, I mean). During all the bullying scenes I couldn't stop thinking that these kind of things happen. This show made me feel angry for real things and even though one could point that as a merit, to me it is not: I watch anime precisely to find some peace in contrast with the cruel world we live in. I haven't seen it but I heard enough to stay away. It sounds like the philosophy is... Shit life, here's a magical killing device, let's make everyone but the MC a complete shit, MC kills everyone. If it doesn't end up like that.. maybe it might be worth a look. Every Anime has fans, go talk to them about it if you enjoy the series. I don't see why people need some sort of vindication by the collective masses that it's good. |

It simple, the series lack deep character development and the story isn't anything special keep in mind this is jsut the first episode, so what most people see is a edge fest series with no substance. I enjoyed the first episode, it was entertaining and thats what matters the most to me. |

I am sorry to hear your friend (or I assume friend) experienced stuff like that. I still stand by what I said about this really over dramatizing most bullying. But again sorry to hear that. |

I guess this ep is trying to give you the feeling about the poor situation of the mahou shoujo suffering and the dark atmosphere,so I think this is pretty fine beginning. It makes you feel overwhelmed about the events happened,so that you'll be interested in this. Since, it's the first ep and it's already very edgy,so I believe that there'll be less edgy later on,I guess? |

Expressing one's opinion whilst being open about it, contemplating that maybe it's just not for them. But I think it's wrong to always compare things with other things that share the same bedrock. Madoka was meant to be felt that way, no one really has proof that Mahou Shoujo Site has the objective of throwing any philosophical stuff at you, not every dark anime HAS to portray life in a believable way or has the objective of putting some aspects of life in a philosophical outlook... It could be mindless and still be very dark. It just wants to tell a story, why do you always have to read pretentiousness and laugh at how impossible situations like those are in real life (I've read worse than this, so think twice about you say). Which is an absurd thought process to have watching a fictional media like anime is. |

I feel it should have been rated higher, those brutal things happen in real life, maybe not all at once in the same day, but happen. 1 episode is not enough to judge a show...why is Steins Gate at 9.20 after 1 episode? Was it really a masterpiece episode? For those who liked the first episode I recommend the manga Life, it's centered around bullying all way through, then watch also the LIFE drama series, it's also good. https://myanimelist.net/manga/407/Life?q=life As for the rating, whatever, just watch if you liked the first episode, drop it if you didin't. Read reviews here or on blog sites, see what people think of the show also. |

I know it may be unfair, but I can't help comparing series that are similar, specially when there's one that stands out as a masterpiece in a certain niche, like Madoka does in the "dark magical girls" subgenre. I had the same problem with Magical Girl Raising Project, which still wasn't as brutal as this one. But yeah, I understand they aren't trying to be deep and it is not really the show's fault that I had the wrong expectations about it. About the pretentiousness, I take that "you" as a general plural, not to me specifically, right? Since I precisely don't find the situations unbelievable, but the exact opposite, and that's the main issue I have with this show. |

Because it's trying too hard, but doesn't know that shock value alone doesn't make a show any good. It's quite entertaining when you shut down your brain and just watch it, but a 5-6 is the most it will ever deserve in terms of actual quality. |

Episode 1 is actually episode 11 IIRC. :D While it is a sci-fi show, there aren't really any temporal gymnastics involved, like alternate timelines or time travel or anything like that which could be used to justify this episode order. They just vomited one of the last segments of the story up front. Did I mention that it's a disastrous pile of poorly made CGI and pointlessly and bizarrely large breasts? Not hot. Just... weird. All the hell that Aya goes thru in Ep1 falls squarely into "realistically plausible", and those who give off the scent of being prey animals would likely draw in potential tormentors just by being visible. The only surprising part is that the poor girl never intentionally hurt herself to get some peace and quiet in the hospital. |

To be honest, I don't like this show because it's so obvious this story try to be Madoka Magica with darker tone. In Madoka Magica, they BUILT the premise and stuck in the limbo of magical girl until turn into witch. They don't necessarily suffer in pointless way. This show? Let's put everything to make protagonist suffering! I'm sorry, but I read the same sort of novel like this and it's.... Not a good read. I love my edgy and dark story like Berserk, but the story telling level is nowhere near that. Why do I have a feeling they will put a character in the bad situation over and over without development or moral value? |

Most "critical thinkers" or "critics" base on their own experiences on how "realistic" some scenarios can be in stories. They forgot that just because they don''t experience it, it doesn't mean it's not happening to someone else. Juunko Furuta is an example, she actually experienced way worse than the MC in this anime. |

It's actually cringe-worthy how frequently people misuse the word 'edgy'. You don't like the anime? Edgy. It has 'horror' or 'psychological' in its genres? Edgy. A completely normal and awfully real thing like someone being bullied? Edgy! It's completely out of control, someone should make a post and count each time the word 'edgy' is misused. |

This goes beyond Madoka Magica in terms of being fucked up,and knowing that, I'm sure we are in for one hell of a (good) ride if it stays good throughout the whole series. In my opinion, they should make more fucked up shows like this. Reminds me why shows like Kuzu no Honkai were actually well made and concluded except its kinda fucked up so people hated it. |

That is all. Your personal feelings shouldn't affect others rating, you aren't that special. |

I personally think it's a fine show, but I could have guessed why other people wouldn't like it. As long as something doesn't fit into their personal schema of what they think is good, they will give it a low rating. Even though their schema is not a one-size-fits-all, they lack the self-awareness to either change their judging criteria or realize that the show is simply not for them instead of calling it a "bad" show. They're just self-absorbed and closed-minded that way. That, or they like to feel superior to others using their arbitrary standards of taste. They will try to proselytize and chide you for liking something they don't. They're full of crap. Their fragile psyches cannot handle the fact that their opinions aren't fixed in stone because they will have an existential crisis otherwise. Critical thinking? They mean to say think like them. |

Generally every season there's atleast that one anime that just gets very bad ratings despite being atleast okay from a technical aspect. Because of that, many people shy away due to said bad score and the show remains unwatched; hence after a few years you have people talking about it as "hidden gem" and how people just "have" to watch it. |

Everyone has their taste, albeit we can all agree that some shows just don't deserve to be rated so low. |

I personally won't give these series a high rating because of OVER THE TOP violence towards MC in ep 1. People she encounters are not just bullies, they're pedophile-rapists, mentally ill, sadistic, narcissist, unbelievably evil cruel and merciless. On top of it all - no one seems to notice or care about these things. I pity the girl and hate the bullies, but i can't really "take this story seriously" because anime is trying TOO MUCH to show us - how bad people are terrible and how sad it is to be this forsaken girl. |
