THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Of all the "infamous island episodes" "Nadia"'s second half unfortunately suffers from, this is probably the best, in which Nadia learns from a monotonous android about who she is and her Blue Water's power. It even builds to an exciting and emotionally charged climax where Jean rushes to save Nadia as their "island" home begins to submerge into the ocean. Even so, this cannot be called one of the best episodes of "Nadia" because there are still some goofy, cartoonish gags from our pals. The choppy and painfully bad animation is also a problem; there are several shots where the characters are drawn out of model. Still, it is arguably the only island episode worth watching.

It is also the one episode that director Hideaki Anno would have saved portions of (as well as pieces of ep 30) if he were given the choice of eliminating the island episodes. In fact, the "Nautilus Story" version of this episode features only the scenes where Nadia is talking with Red Noah. The bits involving the gang outside as well as the scenes of the island sinking, etc. are cut. IOW, we don't see Jean running back to get Nadia, because just after the latter tosses the Blue Water aside, the scene cuts to Jean screaming Nadia's name outside. Then we see Nadia embracing Jean (nude), and the two of them running outside the tunnel, after which we fade out. Then we go straight to episode 35.

There. I've just described a legitimately released shortened version that will surely spare you four hours of your life.

I was surprised when I saw this episode... very important things happen, but why in the middle of nonsensical filler episodes? I also thought the "infamous island episodes" would be finished with this one but I was wrong...

I liked the short UFO scene.

Wow this and the last episode had really bad art... Anyway, this one was really good and surprising, with the revelation of Nadia and the atlanteans past, but holy crap, Nadia is an alien? WTF?

Oh boy, a non-character delivering a massive, leaden exposition dump, a convoluted twist, and making plot developments overly explicit, all at the same time!

You've seen the best of the island episodes (although I think it would've been better if you'd jumped from 22 to 30, so as to spare yourself from the stupidities of these fillers). DON'T bother sitting through 32-34. Just go to 35-39.

I thought I could make it through the filler but I couldn't only managed to watch to 26 before skipping to 30 and this. Now going straight to 35. Real shame such a solid show had this much horrible filler in the middle of it.

The Atlanteans were aliens. Okay.

Pangaea was 2 million years ago. Okay.

Nadia is a princess. Wait, wouldn't she be queen technically? Or would her father be technically be king? I think lineage was lost on me a bit.

They've been on the island for four months. Holy crap.

But yeah, other than those points, quite the meaty episode with lots of reveals.

Aliens, UFO ?! Gainax really wanted to turn this into pure sci-fi. XD (another detail I totally forgot)

Some of the humour was okay, some wasn't. I don't understand why King is still standing on two legs in a "serious" episode like this. -_-

The only episode really in all this arc together with the last 5 minutes of the last episode that are essential..

I don't know why people are surprised about Nadia being an alien. it has already been established that the Neo Atlantians have technology that is not of this world, and that she is one of them.

I think that from electra's monologue it is implied that it was her mother who was the Queen and Nemo was her consort, but not himself the ruler. With the murder of the mother, her elder brother Neo is rightful heir. So Nadia is a princess of Tartessos and heir to the throne of her brother. In principle

Great to actually know a bit of backstory regarding the Atlanteans, and I guess war just destroyed them like probably we will do in the end...

It wasn't that surprising to know Nadia was Atlantean, but didn't think they add a whole galactic/space/alien thing to it. It makes sense though as that is what most people thought or still think about Atlantis and the Atlanteans.

Still very nice and I do wished to see Red Noah again to see the return of Atlantis perhaps even further than that... but with only 8 more episodes to go I doubt we'll even see much to anything happen further down the line with how it's pacing currently!

Still though they were on that island for 4 months and they didn't even bother to go exploring oO?

Let's see what's next though.

This was actually pretty good. The best of the island episodes, tbh. I liked how Nadia just didn't care about being naked in front of Jean, lol. And in the next cut she's instantly in her standard outfit. Oh this amazing editing.

Well the 2nd episode of the filler bunch that is actually good certainly not without some issues but compared to the majority of what we have gotten this is a blessing plus it seems we get information that actually plays into the main story! But, it sure will be great (awful) to get back to a daily dose of cringe after this :D

Grandis sounded so sweet when thanking Marie and King just auditory sweetness ^-^ just something I noticed always a nice bonus to any episode! Plus we got an accidental boob grab scene followed by a power punch scene from Grandis as well LOL always a classic XD kinda sort of not really.

We learn that Nadia's ancestors were aliens from light years away which does make sense considering just how advanced their civilization seemed to be. I did like the visual accompaniments as Red Noah relayed the history of Atlantis to Nadia they were straight forward yet effective. I did like the detail that the various Atlantis societies decimated each other instead of being toppled by humanity since it shows the Atlantians despite how advanced their societies were did not achieve a utopia and that even their own people are capable of great evil. Plus we confirm what many suspected that Nadia is a Princess to her people and the Red Noah seems very apathetic to her feelings and concerns.

I was rather confused as to why Jean set off by himself to rescue Nadia and they say only he can do it only for them to rejoin him minutes later like WTF XD why didn't you all just go together what are you all doing? At least the second time it happens and Jean goes ahead on his own to save Nadia it makes a bit more sense given the outer layers of the island are breaking apart and they all do not want to get separated so they stand at the ready at their escape vehicle.

I did really enjoy the scenes of Nadia protesting the automaton's talk of how it is her destiny and that her Blue Water guided her to this location and pathway but Nadia would throw all that away for the genuine connections she has made, for the Grandis gang, for Marie and King and especially for Jean! That paired with Jean frantically avoiding the dangers caused by the dissolving island and running to where he lost Nadia behind that wall and his cry for her reaching her ears within the chamber was a very nice touch as well! The Red Noah saying Nadia could not escape her fate and they would meet again was ominous to say the least! But, the scene of Nadia reappearing and embracing Jean and then auto equipping her clothes just perfect ^-^

Then the episode ending with Jean saving Nadia and then the Kathrine saving both of them as they all reunite very nice! Well all in all an enjoyable episode for the most part but I am soooo looking forward to that pesky trait of enjoyment being gone by the next episode so bring it on :D

So is Tartessos isn't Atlantis, just Atlantean rulers. The island was all automated, so no sign of Nemo yet...

Though, Nadia could've negotiated with Red Noah to tell her friends that she's safe and still go with Red Noah, but I guess she valued being with her friends and rejects her destiny as Atlantis's heir.

A lot of shoutouts in this episode:

So here's some fridge logic. Nadia is a militant vegetarian who has been protecting the animals on the island (namely the goat) from the hungry clutches of the rest of the gang, but she inadvertently consigned all the land dwelling animals on the island to a much more horrible death (drowning) when she activated the Red Noah.

Interesting facts
The M78 Nebula is real (Messier78) but its not 277.5LY from earth, its 1600 light years away. But that whole things would make for a possibly pretty cool story.. since stars are still forming in this Nebula one could imagine that indeed long ago a civilization might've been created there only to be forced to flee because of the horrible circumstances of the nebula.. or you know.. something like that.. I really love how much detail is in that episode.. altough some of it is wrong.
The Android explains they landed 240 million years ago which would be the time when mammals started popping up on our planet.. so in the universe of Nadia the Atlantis people would be the explanation most likely why mammals popped up and are those who created us.. the bigger plot point tho remains nonsensical due to the overall production of the series.. if there are such mighty and FUNCTIONING spaceships.. why the fuck would the atlantis people be extinct? Why didn't they use the ships in their "holy wars" and seriously.. 200million years of atlantis and wars.. thats a hell of a lot post-apocalyptic weirdness.. 200million years are enough time to actually change the evolution of atlantis people and make them adapt in some sort to our planet.. there is so much more to be explained but.. None of all that makes sense. But it still makes for good world building.. I wish someone would take a huge amount of money and throw it at the universe of Nadia.. creating another series, merchandise, movies and video games of it.. Would be money better spent than sending billionaires in space riding dick rockets..

But by far the best thing about that episode is that the ISLAND part finally comes to an end

@St0rmblade Did you actually want a scene where Jean stares at her boobs and she slaps him and calls him a pervert or something? Because god damn that shit was side-splitting the other half dozen times the show did it. Probably the funniest gag in the entire history of the universe. I had to pause the episode and cry for 20 minutes because they missed such a golden comedy opportunity.

Finally an episode worth watching. In a just world this could've been the conclusion of episode 23 or 24 and skipped all that meaningless dogshit before it but at least the show is doing something now.

The end with Jean finally finding Nadia was so cute.
I didn't watch the fillers, I skipped all the episodes, watching only one frame then another one 5 minutes later just to know what happened. Indeed, there's nothing interesting happening (except that cute kiss scene). So i don't care much about the time wasted lmao

Btw now that I think about it, I watched Escaflowne not so long ago so having ANOTHER story about atlanteans and "fate" is confusing lol
Oh and I watch Macross DYRL too so another anime with atlanteans, Japan really loved it at this time
