| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- I thought this was a decent episode. There were some swimming moments and Sosuke even pays a visit. Lol, I smell some jealousy in the episode as well. It felt more like a built-up episode though with the catching up between friends. I like how Makoto works to help younger kids though. |

| Makoto being a sub of the group of little kids, because he first visited the coach for another business. They wanted to help out, but decided to do their best on their own business. Miyata-san's character practicing and that new guy helping him out. It seems like red hair guy also worries about him. Pink hair guy (junior high friend)'s appearance, and his brother is in the class. He hates swimming because of the accident he caused. Little brother reminds Makoto of young him. Everyone giving advise on helping him. So he specializes back stroke is the same reason as when he was first able to swim. By teaching him back stroke, the little boy experienced the same experience. Wait, that guy has an injured shoulder? |

| OMG, I had such a makoharu feels during this episode. Makoto is so cute omg I'm kinda sad that Rin is getting less and less screen time :< Also, Gou acting like Rei and spouting all that theory stuff. And Sousuke really had a shoulder injury, whoa. | Oh gosh, this was a pointless filler episode, just like the episode that dealt with Nagisa and his parents and his low grades. The only thing important about this episode is the final minute about Sousouke. |

So much Makoto, oh my gosh, he's an angel. I think he's very fit to be a swim instructor because he's experienced with caring for children, and he really seems to like them- note his close bond with his younger siblings, Ran and Ren. He also has an easygoing, sociable personality that makes him better suited to coaching than the other members of the team, so I was wondering if he might consider pursuing the career in the future, because he was obviously disappointed when Goro said he was going to be replaced. Makoto takes naturally to helping people. Ooh, I wish my swim coach was that nice... One of the major things that occurred to me during this episode is how Haru keeps quietly encouraging Makoto to go his own way. This is something that Makoto has difficulty coming to terms with, seeing as he spends much of his daily life supporting others, especially Haru, and doesn't take consideration as to what will happen when he himself needs to move on and will no longer have to be at somebody's side. I'm sure he'll feel very lost without Haru's presence. We first see this in the race against Haru, where he's starting to realize that he won't be able to keep up with Haru and he needs to figure out what he's going to do with his life. Kisumi's appearance and his part-time job as coaching might be symbols of this necessary transition, the need to branch out and do other things. But even though Haru doesn't want to prevent Makoto from having an independent life, he's also scared to be apart from Makoto. After all, the two have been best friends ever since they were children. Both of them fear losing each other when that inevitable fork in the road appears and they'll each have to take a separate path. Haruka wants Makoto to live his own life, but in a sense, he also doesn't want him to because of what that might imply for their relationship in the future. That's perhaps also why they added "I Need You" from the OST of the first season. In the first season, that song played when Makoto had almost drowned and Haru revived him. As soon as I heard it playing, something clicked in my brain and it just seemed like another representation. The first time, Haru had almost lost Makoto. Now, when it played again in the second season, it reminds the viewer again that they're both at risk of losing each other. They seem distant, and I think Kisumi's appearance will quicken the pace of the change in their relationship. Haru has realized that Makoto can have friends without him- not only friends, but also a life. Makoto doesn't want to leave Haru so abruptly, though. Ah, speaking of Kisumi! His bouncy hair and equally bouncy personality give me life. There was only time to get a few first impressions about him, but I noticed that he's very caring about his brother and about others. One of the things that was really important to me was that whenever he talked to Makoto, he made sure to include Haruka in the conversation too, even though Haru didn't really want to take part. This shows that he's sociable but also willing to include everyone. Every time Makoto or anyone else said Kisumi, I started cracking up because it does sound like "kiss me"! I think he's very nice and cheerful, and I really like his personality so far, though with his appearance there will be some inevitable contribution to the growing distance between Haru and Makoto. It's obvious that he's not going to be just a side character; he's going to have some sort of impact in the plot, and I can only guess at what it might be. To Haruka, perhaps Kisumi represents a part of his life when he felt alienated and apart from the steadfast Makoto. He obviously wasn't very pleased to hear that Kisumi had reappeared in Makoto's life, perhaps because he fears that Makoto will be taken away from him. Again, this goes back to the idea that he wants Makoto to move on, but Haru isn't ready to let go either. But with Kisumi to be a friend to Makoto, I think this will leave some room for Haru to consider what he wants to do with his future. Now that he can worry a bit less about Makoto finding his own path and friends, Haruka will be able to think about himself. What does he really want to do? Why does he swim? I can't help but imagine that he'll end up following Rin, because Haru seems like someone, though acting cold and standoffish, needs a steadfast person to be by his side at all times. Lastly, we got a confirmation on the theory of Sousuke's injury. I'm beginning to feel some sympathy for him now, because he's seeing people like Nitori who will be able to swim competitively and follow Rin, when he's going to be left behind in the dust. Like Makoto, he needs to find his own path, lest he be left an empty shell when Rin leaves. |

| I wouldn't call this episode a filler : it sure gave Makoto a new possibility for his future, which he seemed so unsure of. And next week, we finally move on to Haru ! So much Mako-chan, so much Haru... A lovely episode ! <3 |

| I always thought Makoto would end up with a job that involved working with kids (pediatrician, teacher, etc.). Kisumi's personality was exactly how I envisioned it, Haru was so done with him haha Poor Sousuke, sports injuries suck...there was a lot of foreshadowing leading up to this reveal but I still feel just as bad for him... I feel like next episode might be one of those serious-with-good-cinematography ones. |

| So much Makoto goodness! His a sweetheart with children. I was like just give him a job as a couch already! He's made for this! I want to see him move on, he's been hanging onto Haru for so long and partly accepted that he can't go where Haru goes. Haru on other hand is still in the same "free" mindset, it will be interesting to have some focus on him next week. Sousuke has been an ass lately though it was nice of him to train Nitori, the kid really needs all the help he can get. I wonder if the injury will disqualify him from the next race. Kisuuuu-me kiss me kiss me, likable character, though Haru disagree xD |
| Aaaaah, Makoto be the father of my kids :( He is so sweet so kind so perfect. I got kind of annoyed by Haru this episode. I mean show at least a ounce of reaction when meeting with your old friend you haven't seen in so long. I really like Kusumi's character (except his voice which reminds me way too much of a red haired idiot in the Tales Of franchise *COughs LUKE FON FABRE COUGHS*), I hope we get to see him more but he doesn't look like he is into swimming so... That preview literally made Free! look like a thriller or something. Gotta make myself ready for some annoying Sousuke. |

| It was a really cute episode! Specially seeing how Makoto related to Kisumi's brother. Which reminds me that Kisumi is a total hottie, hehe. In the beggining of the episode, Haru's apparent lack of interest in what Makoto was doing surprised me a bit. Yes, it's how he is, but I thought that he'd be a little bit more excited or happy for his friend. Nonetheless, he still was there with Makoto. Hoping Kisumi will appear again, many more times! Plus, he kind of reminds me of Nagisa and no day will come that I won't be head over heels for Nagisa, hehe. Btw, Nagisa is really focused on studying despite everything. And with the help of Rei-chan, who wouldn't? (Go, go, Nagisa!) Next episode seems to be one full of feels, so we should relax with this one and prepare for next week! |

| While I don't particularly think that this episode was entirely filler, it did feel like they could have wrapped it up in like half the amount of time. But then again, we got all that coach Makoto goodness, so I'm not really complaining 〜(￣▽￣〜) Shit's gonna hit the fan next week, already looking forward to it. Maybe Haru and Makoto can also finally have a little talk about how they seem to be drifting apart. This whole thing with them giving glances to each other, but not actually addressing the problem is driving me crazy! |

| Why are people so bothered about it being a filler episode? It gave off some important details, explored characters and development and then was EXTREMELY ADORABLE!! Plus, it shows more of what the show is really about - it's about showing the beauty in swimming and showing that there are always ways to overcome things (such as swimming backstroke to avoid fear of water). Even if it was a filler episode, I loved it & these are the episodes that I really enjoy watching of Free! Because they are easier to relate to in the senses of things like fearing water instead of relating more to competing. |
| I love Free! but damn, this episode was really boring. Like I honestly wasn't interested at all? I find Makoto's character super bland so maybe that's it lol. Next one seems to be about Haru's inner conflict, so I'm looking forward to that. |
| Cute episode :) Any episode that focuses on Makoto is great, and the kids were adorable! He's really suited for teaching kids. Nice meeting Kisumi too in this episode. |
