nice and peaceful episode, but I think it's time for action.
only 8 episodes left ):

gahhhh the slow way things are progressing makes it look like this is being written as a 2-season show; considering it's co-written by someone as important as Gen Urobuchi I wouldn't say it's out of the realm of possibility. SECOND SEASON COME TO MEEEE

This was a nice, slow episode to focus on character development but you're right, it's time for action and plot progression. Unless the major spoiler (read: major spoiler, do not read unless you want your heart crucified and burnt at the stake. Got it? Still want to read it? You sadist. ) on 4chan is a sadistic troll in which case I call Urobutcher, I want to find out what's up with the Hideauze and Red to get in contact with the Alliance. Although frolicking around the ship with Amy and showing us beautiful scenery is a nice alternative too ♥(ˆ⌣ˆԅ)

Didn't read the spoiler, but hey, it's Urobuchi we're talking about. I wouldn't be surprised if the whole Gargantia fleet went up in flames when the Galactic Alliance or/and the Hidiaazu find Earth.

I'm beginning to get an idea. He has no idea about other concerns, because when they are put in the pods they have to earn their way. I remember that early in the show, he wondered what he would do. I bet they get a sort of brain washing into being a good soldier flushing concerns like family out the window.

It's probably the only way to keep order in space.
Be thankful for those you have near who are dear
For time is not always kind to those who would be on your mind
Seize the day, some exclaim, but that which is past, no more shall have its day.

I'm guessing the kid in the flashback was his little brother. Was the little brother killed off because he had a defect?

Amazing episode. I like limbs being severed in Snk and Nakamura's evil self. But the ride I'm having with Suisei no Gargantia is a necessary one. Being able to kick back, and just enjoy the animation, Ledo's development... Great. Only bummer is the 13 episode range.

I love how Ledo's trying his best to speak Japanese.

This entire being-a-soldier thing is pretty sad for Ledo.

So, Ledo cries because he recalled something that involves his brother maybe.
But which of them was Ledo?

I hope we find out more.
I’m always searching for something, for someone. This feeling has possessed me I think, from that day… That day when the stars came falling.

The reason I enjoy this anime is because, unlike other mecha anime, which is always endless space fighting, space fighting (Not sure why people find it cool... I find that extremely boring!), with those weird giant looking robotic creatures, this anime focuses on a foreigner with super advanced alien technology having trouble assimilating and conforming to a completely different society and culture, where people speak in different languages and drastic different life styles. It is highly related to our daily life style, when technology suddenly ceases to complete its goal when facing a primitive community. It shows that technology, although brings about convenience, does not necessary solve our every life problems on its own, which reminds me of Psycho Pass. This is what I obtain from the plot itself so far, and I expect more of it to come!

The amount of idiots here is unbelievable. You guys are completely missing the point of this whole Anime. Just because it revolves around a mecha theme doesn't mean there's going to be action every second of every episode. That theme merely serves as a back drop. The story itself is far more complex and granted there's only 12 episodes i highly hope they renew the show for a second season as the story itself is very interesting. The characters are amazing aswell and cannot wait to see how they all unfold, especially Ledo and how he integrates to a world totally different to what he's used to.

So if somebody could tell me why saving the entire pathetic settlement from killing, raping, pillaging pirates isn't enough for repair costs...?
I guess once they're out of danger, no more begging for help and back to business.

Finally figured out what this series reminds me of. There's a series of YA sci-fi novels by the author Beth Revis called Across the Universe. The main character is a human who's come out of hibernation and found themselves in a world where humans live completely differently from how humans lived in the main character's time and place. Despite the vast differences in culture, the main character eventually befriends the first person they meet in this new world. Main character in that one is even called Amy, like the female lead in Gargantia. Male lead's names are similar too - Elder? Ledo? I mean... beyond that there are a lot of differences, but the thought just occurred to me.

Anyway. I've enjoyed the action so far, but I enjoyed this episode too. I appreciate that they're trying to flesh out the world these characters live in. The scene where they were collecting rainwater was a nice touch.

I'm really enjoying this, and I've also just found out there's going to be a second season. Good vibes all around. Bring on the next episode.

That flashback although very brief revealed a lot. Ledo must feel very awkward in this society than the one that he was in. Them feels. Very nice episode.

This is an amazing series so far, exactly my type of show.

But I am kind of afraid that it's going to turn out bad, because the rating is kinda low here. I mean so far, this series is MILES better than that piece of crap Aldnoah. Incredible visuals, nice music and most importantly, a story that explores different societies, just like Shinsekai yori.

Well what else are you going to do if you are physically inept... If he was stupid and simplistic, I think Ledo would hate him.

So im guessing what we saw was ether ledo as a kid or that was ledos little brother. So its ether that ledo was taken away or ledos brother was put to death for being sick. The world ledo comes from sounds awful. If your not facing giant death plants your living in a cold world.

Loved this episode, lots of great character interaction and I loved how in the way Ledo was in the beginning of the episode and how irritated everyone seems to be with him a lot of the time. Having lived abroad there are moments when your not "getting it" in terms of cultural expectation annoys the hell out of others but you rarely see that in a show.

The flute bit at the end was touching as hell and I'm really liking Amy and her brother. I think Ledo is a really imter sting main character and I'm curious to see where this go s.

I think this was my favorite episode so far, learned a lot about the world and backstory of the fleet. Also some development of ledo, character development is always good.
Now all i need is more wind in the sails of my ship.
Well that and maybe a bit of fanservice of that redhead mechanic.

The flashback had no dialogue to glean much from, but I'm guessing Ledo also had a younger brother at some point, but he was "disposed of" for not meeting the physical specifications of the Galactic Alliance? The first episode mentioned a homeworld called "Avalon" where Ledo could've potentially retired to, so it does seem harsh to kill off his relatives instead of just allowing them to live a civilian life if they aren't fit to be combatants — unless overpopulation was a potential concern for the space colony.

Uh oh. Is Ledo going to have to eventually put Chamber down or something? Like Ledo won't want to leave, but Chamber is going to make him?

Also is Ledo a clone? It really looks like it. I had a feeling he'd be a clone because he didn't even know what a family was and the thought of siblings seemed completely alien to him. What exactly is the alliance, and what are they hiding

Great episode! Probably my favorite so far!
