Not like we don’t know already, but yeah, Matoba doesn’t care about Natsume at all, or more like he just sees people on the scale of usefulness. Natsume is useful, so yeah, he will talk him through by any way possible and use him. I do not hate his character, more like, I find him perfectly reasonable for someone of that stature. So yeah, with him and Natori being there, the welcome ceremony wasn’t supposed to be doomed… doesn’t matter what kind of backstory that youkai was carrying herself with.

I mean she just wanted to return the favour, so we can’t blame her as well. It’s also not the first time we’ve seen a youkai being so unusually attracted to someone, but yeah, when those people themselves don’t exist anymore, everything kinda becomes useless all of a sudden. Felt for that youkai, but it is what it is. Happy ending like usual, and yeah, the first sort of “arc” ended with just two episodes.

Nice teamwork.

Pretty decent conclusion to this mini arc.

Some history going on between Natori and Matoba but they can work together if they really need to.
The managed to solve another case and helped out a Ayakashi which is a good thing.
Natsume was also helpful this episode.

only bad thing about this episode is that now we only have 2 episodes left to go this season

I cope we don't end up waiting too long on season 8 :(

A good episode, and a nice conclusion to last week's cliffhanger.

It's always good to get to learn a bit more about Matoba and Natori.

Too bad there's only two episodes left, but we do have some specials coming in a few months.

As usual, a bittersweet story. What I liked most was the development not only of Natsume, but also of Natori-san and Matoba. All three are interesting characters with different views of the paranormal world and thanks to this episode, it seems that they have understood each other a little better.

The 3 pillars protecting the huge mansion sure has kept the place looking well-maintained for an abandoned house. Normally a neglected house would fall into ruin just from the elements over time. Without all the deadly traps and the powerful 3 pillar yokai occupying the place at any given time, it could probably converted to a traditional inn, with that beautiful pond in their yard for a view.

Natsume holding the long-haired one-eye yokai really showed his compassion in full display. I hope One-Eye lives on freely after having gotten that opportunity.

This is also the first time I'm learning Hiiragi, as well as the other 2 familiars of Natori, can fly or at least levitate. Pretty handy ability.

Next week, Grandma Reiko makes another flashback appearance in her youth again. I wonder if she passed away young, since we never see any flashbacks of her beyond her school days.

I’m glad Natsume was able to get through to the one-eyed yokai, and I loved Matoba’s reaction when Natsume said, 'Cheer up, please” while offering him a loquat.

Can’t wait for the next episode!

The youkai this time looked rather cute, though I knew I would scream in terror if I met one in real life.

'Mistreated by human will, yet also saved by human mercy.' This is probably the youkai story I liked the most in this seventh season. Masakiyo's story was so sad, he was lonely and probably felt constrained by everything. Seeing him does remind me of Matoba. Matoba and Natori's conversation in the room did convince me that maybe there's a little part of Matoba that once wished to get away from it all and live a normal life, but in the end he chose to do it and was serious about it. I'm not a fan of Matoba but I can also understand why he's like that. It's a bit annoying to see him wanting to use Natsume's ability though haha but of course Natori won't let the Matoba clan take advantage of him.

The "expected" evil being was helped by the "expected" good being, because in the end no matter how cruel Masakiyo as an exorcist was he still let go of that one youkai, and that youkai was grateful. Humans really are amazing creatures, aren't they? No wonder Sensei said that it's interesting to follow the journey of human life.

Although it may not be the sweet life he had hoped for, I hope Matoba can find the peace that can heal (at least a little of) the loneliness in his heart.

Breathtaking episode, from the backstory kino of the cyclops yokai trying to sabotage the ritual, to Natori and Matoba having quite the exchange, this was yet another ethereal experience I was glad to embark on. Also wtf is a Loquat?

Probably one of my favorites this season. (Maybe I consider upping the score from 8 to 9.) Still missing some super emotional episodes that earlier seasons had more (imo). But I liked the scenes at the end ... with the cheering up. Matoba seems a lot nicer than I remember him from earlier seasons. Good that he got more screentime here - with even this 2nd story spanning two episodes.

Story with the Yokai that followed the exorcist (that let it alive) seemed kinda cute lol. Though I also thought of stalking (I kinda stalk people a bit myself - only online though) when she/it explained the thing ... had to laugh when Nyanko mentioned stalking. (And always funny to hear English words used in Japanese. Even better with Nyanko's voice and intonation.)

When Natori sat on that bench it reminded of the exorcist from the story from the past. That also was nicely done - using something similar there.

This 2 ep arc is the best one imo however i liked first seasons much more than this one. Natsume was learning life lessons from youkais and there was a character development in these seasons. Now watching natsume book of friends feels like a filler season for me but it doesn't change the fact that i love this anime. I hope we get a story progression in this season or we learn more about the reiko or grandfather

A character like Seiji will always face the negative consequences of being in an Iyashikei show. He is more fit for a plot that has a certain rate of moving forward.

But this episode really makes us think a lot regarding him. The way he sat on the same bench, was it an Easter Egg of him just wanting the Matobas to actually end? It can be a similar problem of caring about your family but just abhor the job they identify with. In last episode, Seiji immediately replied to Natsume when asked whether he wants to quit as an exorcist. This episode he ignores the same question from Natori.

The loquat luck backstory itself might be the biggest crumbs for Matoba's character. Should the gifted show ungratefullness to their gifts? - Is the type of vibe I am getting.

These ayakashi stories can be so heartbreaking, lonely and sad. Feel bad for those left.
