Chainsaw-man was another zoomer culture anime where it starts out as entertaining and quirky but then takes itself way too seriously and a lot of people don't like it so the anime flops.
Just watched the episode of Dandadan that came out this week and it had overly-emotional and dark moments that took up too much time of the episode, will this trend continue for the remaining episodes and this anime flops as well like CSM?

I will do the deed. Chainsaw Man didn't necessarily flop it just needed to be 2 cours to have some time to build up a little more.

On the note of Dandadan, don't worry the story remains the quirky Dandadan with the emotional hard hitting bits sprinkled in.

CSM flopped, it is getting a movie and another season.....I don't think a production company will invest that much in a flopped anime.

@Reckless_weeb that's because the manga is still successful so they're doing everything to revive it somehow.

If people can’t handle a little deviation from zany antics and action, it just shows that the shounen brain rot runs deep. That flashback scene in the latest episode was so well directed and animated, and gave the villain some actual depth rather than it feeling like a monster of the week story.

If you are discussing marketing and sales it's one thing. But don't confuse or relate quality with how good a show sells.

It's true that in today's world you can measure pretty well if a show is good or not on the sales, however Chainsaw-man from a critical perspective as a show was outstanding as it seems like DanDaDan is following.

Now if that will convert into sales, the anime community can only hope so, so we can continue to get very good shows that show passion like these examples.

TL:DR

Just because a show doesn't sell and flop sales wise doesn't mean, from a quality/critical perspective that the show did something wrong or was worse than shows that sell more!!

Edit: Plus they all come from the same team (Fujimoto & Assistants which branched on their own) which demonstrates that the shows they are making are consistently good and you can feel the passion that goes into them!

this is why I hate the subforum of the animes that have a good production or is from a popular manga. They're just magnets for rage baiters.

I personally think dandadan is much better than shitsawman in literally every criteria.

As for the OPs question, yes this sad tragic backstories will come but won’t be the main aspect of the series. Dandadan is a wacky action comedy to its core and it will remain like that for the most part, where csm is just your average gorefest new gen shounen with edgy cast of characters.

so your argument is that the anime is a flop, but the manga it is adapting is successful. Doesnt make even the slightest sense over here.

The anime sales were low, because of the Japanese being adamant about the change in the anime's art style and its Hollywood-ish direction. Not because of the story whatsoever. If you look at it that way, even solo levelling has bad BD sales where it didnt even hit 4 digits. Yet, the series is pretty popular worldwide and is rumoured to be getting multiple back to back seasons.

For two years i'm seeing that CSM is flop when everything says against it. It's actually hillarious that people still believe in it. Interviews with creators, Mappa Store data, sequel announcement, good production schedule for the movie but some people still looking at Oricon's 1735 LMAO. According to this logic Mob Psycho 3 flopped too, cause it's sells are lower than 1000

Yeah I think that's because people in Japan aren't willing to support adaptations of korean work or something. I recall people from japan rating that show pretty low for no good reason as well.

Inconsistent tone and style was the problem with CSM, Dandadan might follow that as well but who knows maybe it works this time.

It did flop considering the hype, but It didn’t flop because it’s bad, it flopped because it needed 24 episodes to really build up. This movie will be really good, I think i’m gunna rewatch season 1 when it comes out so I can feel the build up icl.

I’ve got a lil soft spot for CSM if you can’t tell.

How it could not. The mangaka was an assistant of Chainsaw-man mangaka. It already does since the rape scene in episode 1. By that I mean , Dandadan uses the same tactics as Chainsaw-man. By that I mean , disgusting sexual jokes and scenes , random plot with zero anticipation and predictable as hell, one dimensional characters made purely to satisfy people on X, Pixiv and influencers on Youtube etc. And everybody that doesn't let themselves be influenced by the hype can understand this since the first episode

@kissmygrimoire some people seemingly hate to see heavy themes being depicted in shows since it doesn't fit their expectations of it. And then they conveniently label it as "tonal shift" or whatever sorry dismissive excuse they come up with.

@Yubisoft I was speaking on the anime and who said it represents the anime community? The only numbers you can go off of are the numbers from people who actually have seen it and who have rated it. Anything else you use for an argument is "copium" as you would say.

And these represent an extremely small amount of the 600m+ anime fans worldwide or the fans that have watched the anime and don't use mal etc. Basic statistics .

You have surpassed me. In your case , everything in your comment is copium believing 84k people magically making an anime not a flop(without counting those who dropped it)

I don't think so, I find very different for the original series, they transformed a series with a certain mood and certain themes into something different, but that's not something bad normally, but in this case they warped that mood and that themes into the mood and the themes they thought they should had

@Irshiki They did not "warp the themes" in any way, shape or form. Everything that has been adapted as of now is exactly the same as it was in the manga from a narrative standpoint. This is not a Tokyo Ghoul or Promised Neverland situation, people just love to make shit up.
