Marika is great at adapting feelings. It looks like she accepts reality at whatever comes at her regardless of circumstances.

Obviously, it was thanks to also part in Takae helping the family stick together. But now, they can try and move on forward. I wasn't expecting them to go out on a boat and fishing though. Crazy ending too damn

Renji bounced back from that gloomy patch with Mai like an absolute champ. Dude really is a good catch.

It's funny how Chika went from being the someone with the most ground to antagonize Niijima to being pretty much the one person who could save him from that absolute nightmare he found himself in. Should've known something was fishy about how wholesome most of the episode was (well, other than the actual fish)

The episode was going too smooth for something not to happen...I knew as soon as Takae was getting sleepy throughout the episode was was eventually going to revert back to regular child mode. But man that ending really hurt.

This episode was so good.

What I was afraid would happen just happened.
I seemed likely to me that Takae would leave Marika's body since she coughed and eventually fainted last episode.
But I feel like it's happening too soon. It's like I've skipped a few episodes of character development and build-up in general.
With so many events happening one after another I'm starting to care less about them and the plot feels even more contrived.
The pacing is just too fast for this type of story...

Well they're trying to cram in 14 volumes worth of content into 12 episodes so it's not that surprising...

Everything was sweet, going well, some might say it was happy... too happy.

I knew that at some point that Marika's memories would come back to her, but not just completely override Takae's.... What to do now, really.

It's good to see Chika trying to do better for Marika. It'd be for the best if she gave up her goal of ruining the life of her "ex." It'll only bring misery to Marika and herself if she pursues revenge. So, it's better to just forget about the past and focus on the future. She's taking the fact that Marika was reincarnated a little too well tho. If that was my daughter I'd probably never believe it and think of it as some sort of a trick by a weird cult. I'd get away from them as much as I could. Regardless, it's good to see Chika improving.

Bruh. Mai's boyfriend skipped the confession and went straight after meeting her dad. Imagine if she wasn't into him. That would've been embarrassing. Didn't consider the fact that the person Renji was talking about could've been his past lover. That makes a lot more sense. I think it's admirable that he moved on from the dead to be with someone who's still living. Hopefully, this is foreshadowing that Keisuke and eventually Marika will do the same thing.

WTF was that ending? Man... what a crazy cliffhanger! I thought about Marika "losing" her memories of Takae and turning back into who she was before she got back memories of her past life. But this still took me by surprise. This was probably the worst possible moment that she "gained" her memories back. I wonder how the hell Keisuke and Mai will explain the situation to the cops... And will Marika even remember her life as Takae again?! Probably yes. But how?! I can't wait to find out.

It's a bit disappointing to find out that this adaptation is probably skipping a lot of content just so it could be a "complete" adaptation. I think it's totally fine if it took it slow and steady and had more episodes/seasons. I think it'd fit this series. But Ig it is what it is. I hope the studio will make some OVA episodes that'd fit right in between some episodes as compensation later. But I'm not holding out my hope for it.

Well, everyone seemed to be in a better position now than when the series started. Chika, Keisuke & Mai all have more positive outlooks on life now and Takae is at the centre of it all.

Like the good mother she is, she truly couldn't be happier that everyone else is happy.

Now it seems her job is done and she goes back to wherever she came. In the most tragic way possible. That broke me.

Now they're going to look like clowns in front of Chika.

At least Chicka was well aware of what's already going on and might possibly diffuse the situation when the cops notify her. My guess is she'll show up as well the same way Mai did to save the situation.

Great NP ang.. Tsumasho episode this week πŸ˜‚ Just when this show has everything going right, they throw a hell of a gut punch there at the end. You just knew things were going TOO well, eh.

Marika and her mom’s relationship getting off on a new foot was so nice to see. It’s great seeing how nice the mom is now and accepting of the relationship she has with Mai and Keisuke.

Moriya looks like she’s going to make a move on Keisuke soon, he really got her thinking about how much she cares about him. This is in both of their best interests because the situation with Marika even without the memory stuff at the end just isn’t tenable. Keisuke is going to have to find an actual adult to be with

Renji is such a nice fella man and I love how emotionally intelligent everyone in the show is. So refreshing to have adults that can use their brains and figure stuff out, like he instantly knew she must’ve overheard the convo about his ex and moved to reassure her and her family about how he feels. You can never be a replacement for anyone, all you can do is be yourself!

And like I deduced when she kept saying she was sleepy, Marika is losing her memories/soul. So I’m guessing she was just there long enough to see Keisuke and Mai take the next steps in life and accept her death. Mai has a man who loves her and will take care of her and Keisuke has a woman that will do the same in Moriya. Takae probably couldn’t rest in peace until she knew her family was ok :/ I hope they don’t get in trouble with the cops tho.

Well, shit!

Can this still count as reincarnation? For now it seems Takae only temporarily possesses Marika's body. 5 more episodes left to go though. Don't think Takae is gone for good this early. Her getting "sleepy more often" was a red flag already, but didn't expect to see shit hitting the fan in the same episode. Obviously she'll return but now it's pretty certain she won't be able to stick around for long. And I thought she'd eventually let go of her old family and take new path as Marika. Now it's pretty easy to picture the ending. Hopefully REAL Marika won't be too traumatized realizing she's missing memories.

Let me guess, since they used Kusumi's death as a message about letting dead people go, we really won't see a reborn version of her in the future? I'm a little confused, considering that we already have a person who has actually returned from the other world. Or was Marika's words about luck actually a hint that she still had unresolved matters on earth?

@Sigmar-Unberogen Considering how much the Japanese place importance on a person's personality, I can assume that we are simply talking about Marika's personality and Takae's personality within one soul. At least her mother's experiences last episode might have strongly implied that. Unless we are talking about the stability of her memory as such.

Why is everyone so blunt and fucking stupid in this show? This could be so much better, but the writing and the dialogue hold it back. The loud and casual talk about a tragic accident (plus the cliched overheard, followed by the lame melodrama), the inability to immediately realize that the scared shitless child is no longer Takae, "What's wrong?" hmm, I wonder what lol ffs....

This show takes one step forward and two steps back, it's a shame, every episode has seemingly something frustrating in it. This is one of those anime that I feel would be way better as a live action, though you'd have to probably tweak things here and there that wouldn't work in live action.

So much has happened in this episode.

Mai got Renji as her new boyfriend so the family get to a fishing adventure. It's funny as I was watching Negaposi Angler earlier. The MC had a haul but he experienced seasickness much like this show's dad.

Also, Renji had a dead fiancee that he has learned to move on from. It foreshadows how the dad must move on from Takae and marry his colleague.

Also, now it's clear Marika's body has two souls. Marika herself and Takae's. It's the first time we see Marika as herself so she is scared that she was kidnapped.

It is implied in the OP's visual that
. But I did not expect to see Marika herself appear this early.

Wow, what an interesting twist, she is going in and out of being the child and adult mother, did not think about that one, I wonder where this will lead.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Things were going a little too smoothly, so it was expected for things to take another dramatic turn.

Before that happened, seeing Chika and Takae getting along does make me happy. Chika was okay with Takae in going with Keisuke and Mai for a fishing trip, although I did laugh when she was amused upon hearing how down in the dumps Keisuke was after finding out that Mai had a boyfriend.

Still, it didn't take long for Keisuke to get his motivation back and got back to what he does best. He was also spot on with his advice to his work colleagues earlier in the episode when it came to one of them being hesitant about making a move on the one that he has romantic feelings for. However, it seems that advice was also having an effect on Moriya when she joined them at the work party, so it does make me hope that she does make a move on Keisuke sooner or later.

As for Renji, I'm happy to see how much of a nice guy he was to everyone during the fishing trip. Not only that, but he was able deal with the awkwardness of Mai finding out about how his previous girlfriend died while out at sea and he was resolute about wanting to be with Mai. You've got yourself a genuinely nice boyfriend, Mai! =)

Sadly, this was where things started to turn. Takae getting tired more than once felt like a hint and it seems that Marika is slowly starting to regain control of her own body, although it had to happen at such a bad time when Keisuke and Mai were taking her home. I can't blame for for reacting that way, although the situation has gotten more serious after a police officer arrives to see what the commotion is about.

While the pacing is too quick, I still enjoyed this episode overall.

Renji is like a version of Keisuke, but he managed to move on after losing his beloved, especially after meeting Mai.

Marika's return was expected, but I thought there would be more clues and Takae would gradually fade away. I also thought both consciousnesses could coexist in some way. Maybe Takae faded out of Marika's body once he felt his family was ready to move on without her, especially after seeing Mai with her boyfriend.

Poor Marika, it was heartbreaking to see her so scared, thinking the Nijimas might hurt her. Now all that's left is to call Chika and ask her to help sort this out. Keisuke may be sad for a while, having to say goodbye to Takae for the second time, but with everything he's been through, maybe he'll have the strength to get up.

Well, that answered the question which was previously floating around, and I wondered myself, as to whether the original Marika was dead or not. If she had somehow died when Takae's consciousness first came into being when Marika was, I think, nine years-old. I figured not as it wasn't heavily hinted toward, so assumed it either just wouldn't be commented upon or explored at all, or that there would be some other complication and more to it. I guess this route is the "more to it".

I've never seen reincarnation work like this. This is starting to resemble a ghost story. I mentioned in a previous episode discussion thread that I've seen a person's consciousness take over the body of a child who was already however many years old (as opposed to existing from the start as a newborn baby and no other consciousness involved), as in the isekai Ascendance of a Bookworm and Isekai Yakkyoku. And earlier this year there was another isekai which had a novel form of it I had never seen before (or since), The Weakest Tamer Began a Journey to Pick Up Trash, in which the mechanisms were never fully explained or elaborated upon in detail, but basically two distinct consciousnesses were able to successfully cohabit one body. The main consciousness who was in control of the body as the person and character we were following the show from the perspective of was the new consciousness of the isekai universe's world, but the original consciousness from Earth still survived somehow and commented occasionally on ongoing situations, like a pokemon or a genie in a bottle or something, kept contained.

Getting back to this series though, I don't know why but this one has grown increasingly difficult to watch. It's ostensibly my favorite series of the season - or at least I considered it such since pretty early on after the first couple of episodes. And I think it should be or be considered the "best" from what I've seen, considering the emotional impact. But it's getting very gutting and heartwrenching to the point where I start to dread rather than look forward to starting an episode. Because signs of negative developments within it have been building and trending in that direction for quite a while, or at least half of its run up to now. Which I don't know why that should pose a particular problem considering dramas and romantic dramas in particular are how I originally first got into anime, many are my favorite to this day, they're some of my favorite genres, and they often contain elements of tragedy, loss, melancholy, etc. And considering the amount of far sadder not to mention a lot more extreme and fucked up things I've seen, in anime or in general.

But maybe my tolerance has weakened somewhat and heart/spirit has grown weary. It may also be a consequence of increasingly watching seasonals the past few years and the majority of seasonals not having any significant emotional impact on me as opposed to older shows I sought out suspecting in advance they would powerfully speak to me. And this series is more of an anomaly (there are some strong romance series in general this season, and all significantly and gratifyingly distinct from each other - I've passed on a lot of romances in seasons past in 2021 - 2024 because they were romcoms or ecchi and/or harem-looking romcoms which seemed like they'd be obnoxious). I may need to revisit some favorite iyashikei or other comfort anime to massage my mind.

Should've seen that coming. She didn't just remember her past life, the past life replaced her current memory. It's more being possessed than reincarnation.
