Just because the author who made previous title is famous, doesn't mean the anime will be good.

No need for hype for this anime, remember famous author like Jun Maeda who made Angel Beats, you can see how their writing jump into the hills.
There is also the studio will play a role. Recently, the studio have a good adaptation.

No need hype or high expectation. Just my two cents.

Edit:
After seen comments, many people get offended, I apologize if you are offended, I didn't mean to force you to not get hype or have high expectation. This thread is just my two cents.

I understand you mean to have reasonable expectations but this comes off more like a grumpy "stop making so much noise in front of my house" lol Even the hype thread only has 9 replies which is pretty low.

We know. So? Why telling us?

By the way...expecting a talented person, with a good track record in the industry, to continue beeing talented isn't that crazy, no? xD
It's like saying: "Just because LeBron is good at basketball, doesn't mean he will be in the future"....yeah, but...it's Lebron. He's good.

Well that's true, but that won't stop me from watching an anime based on an author who has written one of my all time favorite works.

op is the hype killer

op is dumb

not because he is necessairly wrong, but because he thinks his obvious statement is, for some reason, genius (?)

if we were to think in an extremely objective way, then of course, him having written a good show before doesn't mean his next one will be good.

but

thinking logically, if he is skilled enough to get his books published, keep making money as a writer, and having the skills to write such a famous show that was hyouka, AND having this series of novels sell so well that it got an anime adaptation... this is all evidence to believe this anime is going to be good.

we're not talking about some shovel underfunded anime adapting some shit fantasy light novel, after all.

OP is thus a mere an attention seeker, and also very dumb. I bet he is North American. this type of post makes me really angry. why did I lose my time replying to this?
Read light novels!
2023 Update: Do NOT read light novels. Regular novels are better. Glory to Haruki Murakami!!!

@restush I get where you're coming from. It’s just… the way you said it caused unnecessary misunderstanding. It’s okay if you just want to express your opinion.

Well, have a nice day.

Well said. If anything its more likely to be trash. Rarely do authors manage to keep the same writing quality throughout different works.

I don't see that much hype anyway. Just some fans of writer's old work getting excited which is very normal.

It's not like a lot of people talking about it. It's just that fans have been waiting for a hyouka sequel for some time which will most likely never come. So their happy that another work of the same writer is getting adapted as a replacement for that.

I do get what you're coming from but I don't see much hype for this series to begin with, it's just few Hyouka fans or people who are interested in an highschool anime

MAL is the perfect place to shit talk about people's opinions.

Its an old series anyway. Yonezawa Honobu got way better over the next 15 years and easily as many books. Sadly OP is right, this is one of his weaker series for sure. Wake me when 満願 or 黒牢城 gets adapted. (Never happening due to explicit content)

He is better at high concept stories with adults or crazy situations; the children in school setting is just holding him back. The prose is still always above average, but if that's cut in adaptation I don't think there is much left.

The Director is the guy behind Perfect Insider, Promised Neverland, So Ra No Wo To, and Elfen Lied. No matter what you think of the writing of those shows, they were all shot and paced competently, so I have faith.

Dunno why people are riled up by this common sense statement. It's not like it never happened before, that very good and renowned source material was butchered by bad adaptation.

Your post is way off base. There isn't even that much hype around this anime to begin with. It's mostly just fans of the author's previous work looking forward to something new. Acting like everyone's losing their minds over this is ridiculous.

Your "two cents" seem more like an attempt to rain on everyone's parade rather than offering any constructive criticism. Just because you had a bad experience with one author's work doesn't mean you need to come in here and try to kill any excitement others might have. If you don't want to join the hype, fine, but don't act like you're some genius for pointing out the obvious. Let people enjoy things without trying to drag them down with your negativity.

Season 1 was and the decision to rush season 2 was very unlikely to be his decision. And this is done by different studio.

Um, what? It’s completely normal to hyping a new work from the author of your favorite or simply popular work. Therefore, there is absolutely no need to literally discourage people in such a strange way, unless you really hate this title.

I agree, the show is inferior to Hyoka. The best episode so far has been the stealing the Osanai cake one and that's probably it.

Honestly, I am enjoying this show so far. I think it's a very interesting way to present "normal" daily situations instead of supernatural elements, as suggested in its opening.

However, I can understand that this kind of anime might be quite boring for many people, as nothing particularly interesting has happened so far and its storytelling is very slow compared to many other shows too.

I never watched Hyoka yet, but definitely i am going to give it a try after finishing this one.

To the OP.

Copy paste your first comment to all upcoming Anime in MyAnimeList, just change "Author" with either "Director" "Anime Studio" "Original Manga" "Voice Cast"...

You'll be suprised how it'll make popular, beautiful, sex idol with both the girls and guys and recieve super saiyan powers.😆

I still enjoy it immensely more than the likes of Gimai Seikatsu which I heard most others praising to high heavens and deeming as far superior but I personally found very tone-deaf compared to what I read in the manga and LN. At this point, idc if it doesn't have the kind of audiovisual quality that Hyouka had, it still has at least a good amount of the former's perks that made it so investing as a niche story.

@Ryuseishun me personally, I like Gimai Seikatsu more, maybe because it's more emotional and the direction is great. Still, Shoushimin is my no 2 favourite.

Anyway, for all the haters of Shoushimin, look at episode 9.

I can only imagine all of you dying in shame.

Coming back into this thread after finishing episode 9 (the second to last one), and honestly, this anime has been pretty "meh". I wouldn’t say I’m outright disappointed, but the whole experience has felt bland. Episodes 8 and 9 were the only ones that had anything worth watching. The rest of the season just felt like it was going through the motions.

I’m hoping the finale, has something fresh or unexpected to offer, but I’m not counting on it. It’s the kind of anime I’ll remember a few years from now, not because it was terrible, but because it’s that weird mix of “I haven’t seen anything quite like this before” and “wow, every episode felt like the same thing on repeat”.
