Sad day for ecchi fans as the one seasonal tagged that way now has confirmed not only nipples but butt cheeks as well. Does this influence you watching the reboot or not? Should all butt cheeks and nips be terminated from fiction? I have never seen such a great L in all my years watching anime. What do you think? Edit: here is a pic |

Watched the leak - anime looks fantastic. Never watched the OG anime nor did I read the source material. I was half expecting the show to have dated writing with tropes that'd make me roll my eyes, but it didn't even remotely feel like that. The remake so far is very cute and wholesome. I can't speak for the OG watchers, but as someone new to the series, I really enjoyed it and I look forward for the official release. It's a W in my book. |

@Mr_Sai yeah, ngl, the discourse over fans being upset over the lack of nipples is just absurd lol. Honestly, I am really digging the romance and the martial arts appeal this show has to offer. Looking forward to the official release, as someone completely new to the series. |

@Mr_Sai Why not? Is the a law against having both ecchi and a good story?
@DigiCat well, production already decided we're not getting ecchi - we eating good regardless, story seems to be great as a newcomer. Looking forward to the official release. And best of all, we now have two variants of the same series, a luxury we don't usually get to see for many old series which also deserve remakes. Edit: replaced a word |

@BaseLion Nothing wrong with having a different take on the story, but my question was why say it's "not about ecchi"? Thing the OG anime and manga are about |

@DigiCat I never read the source material nor did I watch the old show either. As a new comer, it doesn't feel like I'm missing out on much - so far, it certainly doesn't feel like showing more nipples or butts would contribute to better writing either. So I'm curious how the lack of ecchi is detracting the appeal and enjoyment of the remake, for a newcomer. I genuinely wouldn't mind less censorship though, but I can only base my experience off of what the remake is/would be once the official release is out. |

@DigiCat I think people have just entered the damage control stage. The big appeal of the og Ranma was the wide appeal to both men and women. Catering partially to the male gaze is something some people get offended by so we see this ecchi divide. Kind of like my hero fandom with gay shippers clashing with vanilla straight canon stuff. |

Newer shows like Dungeon Meshi also had uncensored nipples for the harpies and no one complained there either. That the "sensibilities for modern audiences" have supposedly shifted seems to be nothing more than an unsubstantiated claim with nothing tangible to back it up. If anything the constant complains about censorship with no real pushback other then the usual "I don't care either way" / "complaing about people complaining" is indicative that nothing has really changed in that regard. |

@BaseLion I think rather than the ecchi itself it's the fact that it is considered censorship that turns people off As for what ecchi contributes to the show, it's kinda the heart of the show, it's how the mangaka intended it to be, a raunchy comedy about romance and martial arts, i get raunchy comedy isn't everyone's cup of tea, and again, there's nothing wrong with having a new version with a different interpretation, but i don't think that's reason to dismiss the original intention |

Honestly it’s whatever, I already watched all 161 episodes of the original anime and read all 407 chapters of the manga. So if Mappa want to be Karens about the ecchi scenes, I could honestly care less. I’m only here for the updated animation. |

@EcchiGodMamster I'm guessing that a lot of newer viewers in the anime community aren't too well versed on how Ramna shaped the ecchi/raunchy genre - I too am one of them. And probably the sentiment of lack of care from other viewers very likely stems from the abundance of ecchi/raunchy shows we already have out there. So it's not surprising how those who grew up watching the old show would have biases against the remake, very likely due to nostalgia. Out of curiosity, I watched a couple of the early old episodes - honestly, in terms of raunch, both are really tame, only difference being lack of nipples in the remake, which doesn't feel like it takes away much value since the series itself feels very charming, both in the remake and the OG. Of course, I agree that censorship sucks, but after seeing the remake and the OG side by side, I don't see much of a difference, for the time being. Edit: removed a word |

UNTIL its something that they care about, then all of a sudden theyre whining and complaining and being told the changes theyre complaining about aren't that big a deal while it doesn't surprise me if Ranma was tame compared to series that came out later, removing something it was significantly remembered for makes no sense and theyre defintiely only doing it for "modern sensibility"/"global audience" purposes which NO ONE is asking for this recent surge of remakes are starting to seem like despiration on the industries part |

I don't care if it's censored or not but the fact that they went the Barbie doll route to censor the nipples is weird as fuck. It doesn't look good. What I'm more excited about is that this seems like a more faithful adaptation with almost no cuts unlike Urusei Yatsura remake. They're probably gonna start cutting chapters after the episodic stuff begins but I hope they'll actually adapt the popular chapters for this at the very least and also finish the damn series unlike the original Ranma 1/2 adaptation. That'd be more than enough to make this adaptation superior to the original. |

@Mr_Sai If the original series has nudity and sexy fanservice, so IT IS a ecchi series and it's natural that fans would expect that in the remake, so you're objectively wrong here even if you won't admit. |

@ShiroAlex On the contrary, they hiding nipples with light or steam would allow the BD uncensor these to show nipples. Instead, the nipples weren't draw on this version. So, there isn't anything to uncensor. |

@Shinuki_n_Reborn I mean, the new Ranma 1/2 still has nudity. They just don't draw nipples. Maybe I'm just too used to many male character without nipples on anime (like old or new Ranma 1/2 anime), but I don't really understand why some people find weird female characters without nipples in anime. |

My fucking God People, you do realise there's a middle ground between "good! Censor the hell out of source material! If you need ecchi, go watch some hentai" and "Nooooo the show is 1/10 I need mah nipples otherwise I won't enjoy it"?! I don't condone a censorship of any kind, especially something this idiotic (I will never understand how female chest, out of all things, became so "forbidden" and "banned"), but let's not pretend it actually affects story's quality (which is fantastic). Not the end of the world. It's just- why tho? Why do you always need to remove it? Does it offend some snowflakes? So dumb. Ranma is literally kids manga. Read it when I was 12. There are multiple nipples shown in shows that are not ecchi (like Dungeon Meshi), what's the problem here? People who talk about that raise much bigger problem of the censorship, because we also have gory scenes being censored in shonen anime, important scenese being deleted/changed "because director felt like this" etc etc. In this particular case Ig it's because of the show's rating |
