Now that the trailer is out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TT7MWy9oLf8

What are your thoughts? On the animation and character design anyhow

Personally I like it! It's gonna take a while for me to fully get used to these much brighter colors but the designs don't look bad or anything. I'm more so still worried just how much they are planning to adapt...

Will it be 24 episodes? 50 episodes? I just can't see either number possibly being enough to fully adapt the series. No doubt a large chunk of the manga will be cut out, all the shenanigans...but how tf will that work??? Like 70% of the series is pure shenanigans

Honestly, I’m surprised they went with Mappa to do the adaptation. Mappa makes great anime, but I would have thought David Productions would have been the go to after they made the Urusai Yatsuru remake. It will be interesting to see how those different studios adapts two different manga from the same author.

I was surprised to see that MAPPA is working on this. Seeing how well the Urusei yatsura remake looked, I expected David Production would do this one as well. It will be interesting to see how they compare.

I'm glad to see that most of the original VAs will be reprising their roles! I immediately recognized their voices while watching the trailer.

It may take me an episode or 2 to adjust to the color palette, but it definitely looks good.

can't wait!

I loved the OG! How could I not watch this? Looks like it hits the major notes of the First Season. Now I just want to see Akane with that table again... ROFLMAO

As someone who is currently about 70 or so episodes in the original Ranma, I do prefer the old version. The art-style imo is just way better in the original. Definitely not a fan of the censoring they are doing in the new anime. Ranma 1/2 is obviously not an ecchi anime, and quite honestly they sparingly show Ranmas titties in the anime ( i want to say like every 5 or 6 episodes ? ) however, it's the principle of censoring itself that is disgusting, and I don't agree with at all.

Despite this I'm still going to give it a watch to give it a chance.

Could be good.

But only if they show nipples.

It looks pretty good already! I’m actually praying they do a good job with this, even if they gotta censor a few things

Looks drab and washed out. The soul has been completely sucked out if this one.

I really like the new style. My problem with the UY remake was that it felt too clean/simple and I think this looks like it has a lot more personality imo

Neutral opinion for now, I guess. The animation looks great, but I much prefer the character designs of the OG anime. I feel like reboot anime almost always give a cutesier and brighter color palette compared to their original and most of the time I don't like it. This reboot is no exception. Not a big deal though. I will, however, lament the day Akane cuts her hair. She looks so much cuter with her long hair....

I will remain neutral until I found out if it kept the ecchi or not. I hope it does not cut that aspect that makes the og so iconic.

I don't like it because of MAPPA. If they follow their usual release pattern, they're going to take years to finish it. We'll be lucky if we get more than 13 episodes every 2 years

Looks pretty good to me, I was never going to watch the original, but I'll definitely give this a shot.
If you reply back to me and I never respond, I lost interest and don't care. Sorry about that.

i just want to see the result of mappa taking on the remake, just to see where it goes.

being a big fan of the original anime, seeing a big part of the cast play their roles again feels exciting.

i think i'll wait for other trailers to see how the new style suits the anime, but for now i have mixed opinion. i feel the colors are too brightened up compared to the original, but if they can make it look good overall, i don't mind that much.

i know most of the original tv series by heart, the design are almost the same, so are the scenes, idk, why make a remake if i's going to look lmost identical (the character design is the same)

odd choice for a remake, there are older series that do deserve their own animation too tbh (I still can't believe are you alice never got an animation)

I'm pumped for it. I don't mind at all if the nudity is removed. I'm always here for more laughs with these legendary characters.

@Genjiff Talks about "usual release pattern", when it only happened to one series they made.

I like it a lot! The animation is slick and I personally don't care about the nipples, so I'm good on that front either way, lol.

Also, I never expected MAPPA to be the studio in charge of this new adaptation, that was a great surprise!

I reserve my final judgement until I've seen the finished product but I'm already not a fan of the censorship. Dunno if Mappa is the kind of studio that releases both a censored and an uncensored version of their animes but I doubt it.

Holy heck, I was gobsmacked when I saw a notification for this, I used to watch the heck out of this anime almost 15+ years ago. Think the last time I did a full rewatch was round 2015 so it'll be an enjoyable ride to re-experience this fun anime.

I found the trailer to exhibit the energy as we could expect from such a title. And it looked pleasant enough. But...

Ranma ½ (2024) Episode 1 Discussion

While the drawings and colours (reminiscents of the manga's covers) are charming, this first episode seemed quite insipid to me. Thanks to it, I realise how much of the work was done by Kenji Kawai & co. 's soundtrack for the first show. This is made all the more apparent because of how close the episode is to its predecessor.

But I'm very happy to have Hayashibara back in a "main" role, and it's nice to hear everyone else too (despite the older voices for some of them).

Enjoyment: 3/5
