Maquia, in short is described by a single word: motherhood. Iorph's lives are already depressing in the sense that they have long lives and have to watch mortal humans die for generations. Mix that with motherhood and you get something bittersweet.

Overall, it was really very touching that any person can relate to. My only concern was the conflict between Mezarte and Nazarte was a bit shallow, and they could have done it better imo. But that doesn't take away my enjoyment of the movie.

This movie seemingly couldn't be bothered to pace itself properly. In an effort to induce cheap emotions out of the viewer, it hurls a conga line of unfortunate events and misery at you for most of its length, and then resolves it with a timeskip and a bunch of flashbacks for a bittersweet ending. Also, why was Ariel so eager to throw his life away for a kingdom that captures, rapes, and subjugates the species that Maquia belongs to en masse?

Not neccessarily a bad movie, but it doesn't have its priorities straight.

A poignant and sincere commentary about ageing, loss and love. If you take a closer look at it, what feels like a simple story reveals a complicated web of themes and plot ideas that are just fleshed out enough to make this movie stand on its own.

Well, it's been long since I cried like this.
I'm touched.

Motherhood: the movie.

After all these years, P.A Works made another real tear jerker, after Angel Beats! that is. At least for me.

This movie was just heart-wrenching, it brought tears to my eyes. The visuals were dangerously beautiful. It also stirred up many emotions inside me and I can't put a name to all of them; desperation of love, its beauty, the lonesomeness, anxiety, and happiness mixed with sorrow idk how much more.

The Sayonara no Asa ni Yakusoku no Hana wo Kazarou anime has finished and it ended on a high note. This anime teaches about love, affection and sacrifice which is very meaningful no matter what group you come from. This anime is very good and I was moved and sad when I watched the end of this anime.

Hopefully this anime gets a new sequel, because this anime is very good.

Tears. Just tears is all I'm feeling running down my face right now.

The story of a woman raising a son who will eventually outlive her is both heartbreaking and beautiful. The animation does a great job showing the passage of time, especially in the touching recap of Ariel’s life with Maquia at the end. It’s a sad and unfair world, but Maquia finds peace with it.

The visuals in this movie on the other hand, the movie is filled with stunning scenes and superb animation. I remember a moment where I was in tears, yet still admiring the beautiful background. Before this, I considered P.A. Works to be an above-average studio—good, but not exceptional. This movie, however, has completely changed my view. When they get it right, they really get it right.

It’s tragic that the family who took in Maquia all end up passing away from old age. This makes the movie really sad, especially with the emotional soundtrack. Maquia has to keep moving on, meeting new people and saying goodbye over and over through the centuries.

A lot of questions and plot holes, but in the end, what a fucking beautiful movie. Maquia's character has a lot of story potential. I’d like to see more about the people she has to say goodbye to next. There’s a special kind of sadness in that which I’d love to see more of. Kinda reminds me of Frieren idk xD

good story built on fantastical elements ,which weren't explained quite clearly though, mixed with real life elements without jumping over the cruel elements of humanity .A tribe befallen put amidst onstage for the ever endless deplorable struggle for power by homo sapiens .The men wiped and women taken as prisons for their wombs to house babies of the aggressors.Maquia lucked out considering the whole plot going on backstage. She experienced what means to love ,the weight behind it and the loneliness which is associated with it .And she regretted none of it after bidding goodbye as she should be .Can't help but sympathise with my boi Krim .Dedicated his life trying to free Leila ,pulled some strings which infact bear fruit but got rejected personally as the lady in question Leila wanted to hug her daughter and shower her with love .And guess what she did later on..lol --imma free birrd leeet me fly yeehaw !!

Loli mother of dragons meets KyoAni.

Generic from the design and tropes to the war and family themes. Half-baked story, paper-thin characters, predictable ending. Technically good, but nothing unique. Terribly cheesy music. Annoying whisper-y voice acting and even more annoying crybaby lead.
Overrated sappy moeblob galore, bored me to tears after ten minutes, was hard to finish.
Moe immortal mommies, pseudo-incestuous vibes, and dragons make this an otaku's wet dream.
A dog's sad death and hot dudes/soldiers. I won't remember other aspects.

watching, waiting, commiserating

I was fr bawling and felt like my heart was RIPPED OUT watching this movie my god. There’s so much packed into this movie and it got me feeling so many conflicted emotions at once. I was genuinely feeling so heartbroken yet happy at the same time and was constantly going back and forth throughout it. I think what really got me was the scene when Leila and Maquia were on the dragon and she said “It was so hard. It hurt...but it's still such a beautiful world. I couldn't forget it.”

Because if that doesn’t summarize the experience of human life I don’t know what words would better capture it. I definitely appreciated how this movie gave me a lot to think about and sit with some complex emotions. Yet it's not a forced message the movie has but a genuinely compelling story.

Also I’m going to put my rant about onee (really maybe several) points in spoiler just to let it out of my system and so I don’t look insane lol...it’s a long one
