Emotions running very high this episode as even Kenshin gets involved.

Sanosuke's determination is admirable but I must say that he needs to be careful of his judgment. The VA that played Sanosuke really bought out his personality imo. He never forgot his past and in this timeline, he's not letting it go. What an episode, just full of emotions.

Just two guys out to bomb some place like the home ministry does seem baffling, but to be honest things like that do happen, and I mean they even have the explosive toys known as bombs. So, few to distract the forces and the rest to actually do the deed. They did the first task successfully, but then he appeared… Kenshin.

I liked how Kenshin was quite simply just dodging the bombs as if they were some tennis balls lol. Too bad for Katsuhiro, it took him that much time to know who Kenshin really was. Now not only Kenshin foiled their plans but the kind of change he brought in Sano dealt the final nail in the coffin for Katsuhiro. I mean dude, literally accepted what they were doing wasn’t right, and heck even put Kenshin in the duty of laying off every such bomb there was in Katsu’s house.

Kind of an emotional confrontation between Sano and Katsuhiro, but it was needed, as I mean Katsuhiro needs to let go of the past at this point, like Sano did with peace. A small arc, but okay it shows Sano at the very least has changed, as I mean we didn't have some unnecessary Sano facing Kesnhin once again and then learning things ALL OVER AGAIN, which would've made these past episodes meaningless.

Guess, the Kyoto arc starts next epsiode.

Of course, as normally, Kenshin would intervene.

After a decade, Tsunan, determined to avenge the Sekihotai, takes action. Sano accompanies him, sharing in his resolve, and together they launch an attack on the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, inside the building, Kenshin stands ready to thwart their advance. Facing the former Ishin Shishi who opposes them, just as in the days of the Sekihotai, Tsunan burns with fighting spirit. An explosive barrage of attacks assails Kenshin.

So, Sano was merely going along with it to protect his friend from getting involved in something that's not right.

From the get go there was no evading Kenshin in the first place. Against a normal opponent that storm of explosives might had been effective though. More than anything the confrontation between Katsu and Sano showed just much he had changed as a result of not only meeting Kaoru, Yahiko and Kenshin but got to meet the people in town and saw firsthand how the times were treating them as well. Unlike Katsu who was just stuck in the past. In the end im glad that everything was resolved without needless bloodshed. Great way to set up the stage for Shishio's arc.

I'm... not so sure... ?

The title of the next Episode seems odd , no ? Atleast , it totally does not fit with what should happen if they start with the Saito sub-Arc.
My guess is that it'll be a Prequel Episode. Maybe a flashback of the Bakumatsu with Saito , or an adaptation of Act Zero from Tokuhitsuban.

Yes , but no.

They have already shown the flashback that was supposed to happen at the start of Episode 20 at the very beginning of Episode 01. (So there is no spoiler in my posts.)

With all the additions of this adaptation , i think there is a possibility the next episode will include Original content , or atleast something that is not even from the Main Manga.

@Alexioos95 Im not questioning any spoilers. Ive watched everything there is to watch up until this point, even the movie adaptions. The fact you mention maga again is suspect. But if anything, if there is one thing I love its new stuff ;)

The Main Manga contained 3 prototypes , and 1 of them is officially a Prologue of the story.
Tokuhitsuban is a very quick Remake of the Tokyo Arc (All the stories we got in this adaptation up to now.) , and it also contains "Act Zero" , another Prologue Canon to the Main Manga.

Looking at the title of the next episode... I believe it'll be an adaptation of Act Zero.
I don't really know what they'll do with multiple episodes tho , as it state "Zenpen" and Act Zero is very short too...

@Perrin4869 There you go again underrating this and mentioning the '96 one again and again. Contradictions are your forte. You claim to not like the melodramatic part, yet the anime itself is melodramatic, and the '96 version was even more with how Kenshin fought Sanosuke instead and the delivery of the message was done.

@KenshinXHimura man you really must love me, you never miss a chance to respond to my random thoughts on Kenshin 😄
I mentioned '96 just for you, I was wondering if I'd trigger you again 😉
But seriously, Kenshin vs Sano round 2 in that anime got quite brutal, and it was used to show how Katsu preferred to save Sano over his revenge against the Meiji government, I thought it got pretty emotional without an overly melodramatic speech. Sano going on about how the people in the Meiji era are living a peaceful life and convincing Katsu not to kill himself, I don't know, I think it's a bit too heavy handed for my taste, if it works for you man, I'm happy for you! I hope you understand my perspective, even if you don't agree with it.

The pen is mightier than the sword ending for Katsu. Thanks to Kenshin's efforts in helping a friend-of-a-friend, there's little trace of his bombings, which makes the government (Okubo!) consider the villain we've been waiting for, Shishio!

Stopping the terrorist attack went a lot quicker and smoother than i expected, Katsuhiro got thoroughly finessed lol, but at the same time he’s a lot different than the villains before this point, being a friend of Sanosuke’s and all as well as the fact he’s not a swordsman (or a gatling gun wielding rich guy lol).

And man, I gotta commend the voice acting, they really sold the scene where Sanosuke and Katsuhiro fought both physically and verbally, and I’m glad Sanosuke was able to convince Katsuhiro that his actions would prove useless, so his anti government acts have been massively toned down to being on newspapers now but that’s a wholesome end honestly lol, using his art for a good cause, possibly making change a little bit at a time. Definitely liked this little arc, now I wonder where that post credit scene is leading us.

Sanosuke had to beat some sense into Katsuhiro. Going around and bombing government buildings isn't going to help anything really. It definitely isn't something their old captain would want. Katsuhiro heart is in the right place but his methods have been decided by a decade of grief. Losing the only family they had changed these two boys into the men they are now. Sanosuke and Katsuhiro both went their different paths and came to these different ways of making a difference. Katsuhiro has to let go of his resentment and try to make change for the better. Sanosuke makes a great point that the ideals their captain had about equality for the four classes has been achieved already. We've seen it in the characters how they have opportunities to change and be better people, as well as live their everyday lives trying to do better. Katsuhiro can much better utilize his artistic talents through this newspaper he's starting. Having an anime original post credits scene ropping a name like Shishio so soon is very interesting and makes me hopeful we'll get a season two with the Kyoto arc.

The Sekiho Army recreation via Sano and Tsunan has begun, and as expected, Kenshin intervenes to stop their atrocious act, though he made a way for him to escape out. Eventually, Tsunan recovering back to find his bombs all taken away, whatever Sanosuke mentions now will have no effect on him.

The 10 years that each of them made their own lives, Tsunan made the fatal choice to retaliate 10 years too late whilst the Meiji Revolution has been set into the new realm of swordmanship, and everyone has moved on from their past, except for the artist himself who's still living in the past, grieving over Captain Sagara. Back to the Nishiki drawings, Tsunan painted one last picture of their former captain, and that's it for his short chapter.

The rather long Shishio arc is coming next, and that determines the final stretch of the anime.

That was a very emotional episode full of nuance.

First, I don't agree with Kenshin interfering. He killed many people to put the Corrupt Meiji government in power, but instead of making them pay for their crimes, he is victimizing the one person trying to right the wrongs. IMO since he was responsible for putting them in power, he should have no say, his hands are already full of blood.

Sanosuke betrayed his friend. He ate the friends fish as a child, that is the behavior of a bully who is all "might makes right." This time that hobosexual broke ass mooch used his friend's money to throw a party, then foiled his friend's plan, and beat him up after. He was a bully then, he's still a bully now. I lost a LOT of respect for Sanosuke. I doubt he'll ever pay his friend back, he's one of those "use them and throw them away" types, TLC did that song "No scrubs" about a guy like him. I wish he'd get off his high horse and get a job or something, because he also owes the restaurant quite a sum. I don't understand why people keep letting him mooch off them. It feels bad because I used to like Sanosuke but not anymore, not after this episode.

This episode made me sad because the artist will probably get captured and tortured by the government, and it's not like Kenshin or Sanosuke will go save him. One hasn't finished paying for his sins and the other is a meathead.

Sanosuke is kind of an a-hole to be honest. He knows Kenshin is nosy as fuck. So then before he takes off he babbles out loud like an idiot that he's going to be a felon the next time they all see him. Ofc Kenshin interferes.

Later on when he's fighting his Katsu he's like I didn't say anything I swear! Dunno how Kenshin found us there! Dumb ass.

Since Watsuki is supervising the production , there is high chances it's indeed the cut Chapter , or atleast some parts of it.
But at the same time , he mentioned in the Manga that he really was disappointed with how he ended up portraying Raijuta , but he didn't change it here... so who knows.

Yeah , it fits in around 40 Episodes.

But the Prologue can be done in around 4 Episodes , and one of its high point loved by the fans would be in the 3rd Episode (or so).
It definitely would be a great idea to stop the Season just after it.

And actually , the title of the next Episode hints that they won't start the Kyoto Arc right now...
They'll probably temporize the series for 2 Episodes just for that.

Considering that the title of the next episode is "Meiji Swordsman Romantic Story, Act Zero (1)", are they planning to adapt the "Remembrance" chapters right now? I mean, it would be an interesting move, but a risky one if that were the case, especially when they adapt the Jinchū arc someday.

That... would makes no sense.

The Tsuioku-hen chapters are related to the Jinchuu Arc , and they just teased Shishio here... It would be way too disjointed...
They could add a lot of content about Shishio toward the end , but it would make the story too scattered...
Crossing the storylines like that really seems like a very bad idea.

The OG's episode was the best, man. I know this episode suits more with reality. But OG's one was something else. Their trip to the home office, Kenshin's entry scene, the scene where he extinguishes the bomb at one stroke, the fight with Sanusuke, the ending where Kenshin is called a hypocrite, and Kenshin's face with a smile. I miss everything in this episode, man.

@Perrin4869 You think so? Because I think this iteration was better than the 96 version. Sanosuke fighting Kenshin even after knowing that it's pointless and katsu giving up 10 years old plans because of a talk which didn't last no than a minute don't make much sense. Expanding it was, in my opinion, not a bad idea.

About the melodrama though, if I remember correctly, both Kyoto arc and jinchu arc are filled with melodrama. So if you like them, I don't see why you hate this iteration.

@Taro-Tanaka I don't hate this iteration, I think it's ok. Heck, I can even see why you'd consider it being the better version narratively... but I still find the '96 version to be the most emotionally charged one, or the most satisfying to watch, if that makes any sense

Ah yes ofc Kenshin interfere. The way they exchange the fist and reminiscing the old day, again. Classic. So that be it. Tsunan opened eyes, decide to use a peaceful path of his own way to continue the spirit of change from his captain. By becoming a sarcastic carricaturist wallpaper to oppose the government, seems like that to this present. Then yeah, not so astonishing since its not include Kenshin way of clearing problem. But i get that this is another those chilling day where you see even Sano have a highlight for the one sole episode.

Idk what's the deal with the next episode title. Seems off. But i can get through it. Let's see next then...

The emotional drama, and how all parties were able to navigate through it - was uplifting.

As well, we don't have enough episodes left this season what with that name drop.

This was a solid conclusion, very meaningful. It was fitting they called back to the KH x SS fight by the river.

Looking at the title of the next episode... I believe it'll be an adaptation of Act Zero.
I don't really know what they'll do with multiple episodes tho , as it state "Zenpen" and Act Zero is very short too...

Official preview images now confirm it ! (https://twitter.com/ruroken_anime/status/1724351471192539473)
Looks like they'll incorporate it as a story that Kenshin tells to his friends. (There is things to be done with Megumi here too.)
