It was an okay episode, kinda moody in places but once again examines this technical age and its Ai.

What comes around goes around I guess. Sudou interacting with an advanced Ai is nothing more than his daily work as they come to an understanding.

It's quite popular idea among conspiracy theorists that we're already in a technological singularity. But the reason we haven't see AI create a smarter AI or robot replicating itself is because AI thought human is already doing that, so there's no need for AI to interfere directly, just a little recommendation and advise (aka assistant) would be enough to progress the technology.

I have no comment on spiritual AI, but an ex-Google engineer name Blake Lemoine might have some, or many comments about this topic.

This episode really reminded me of the whole Blake Lemoine situation at Google last year. The guy who was fired for saying that Google’s AI had become sentient and had feelings.

The spiritualism aspect of the episode was really interesting. I suppose in many respects an AI that’s more intelligent would be a god of sorts. Is intelligence level all that separates us from revering artificial intelligence as a deity? This show never fails to make you think. Humanity has always looked to the divine for what we can’t answer.

Even though he was a loon because of all the operations on his brain, the humanoid that killed that lady kind of brought up some good points and warnings about Michi.

Journalist eavesdropping on the doctor and Teshigawara so blatantly was hilarious man, you gotta know it’s cameras in there 😂

Interesting that Michi takes the form of a child who looks just like Sudo.. I wonder.. Looks like we will finally start getting some answers to what happened to his mother over the next couple of episodes. Been a while since that plot point has got addressed

This reminds me of an incident back in May this year when some mad lad used chatgpt and another AI to generate a profile photo and the main newspaper in Ireland published it. It was one of there most viewed articles as well. Of course the mad lad was just betting with friends he could do it, and the Irish Times issued an apology, but it links directly to this eps. Just what are we reading? Who is generating it. Have we passed the singularity. I can load up twitch and watch biden vs trump argue 24/7 in there own voices. Its becoming harder to distingush truth from fact and if we already have a super AI, is our reality our own right now. 1984

Michi reminded me of typical god-like beings (who have been given humanoid form) with his white hair and golden eyes... ^^'

  • This episode consists of chapter 52 and 71 of the source material. As the first part or chapter 52 doesn't have strong impact on me, it took some time to find it.
  • Probably, the theme would be conspiracy delusion. It will never become outdated how matter science will progress, because you can't prove "something (for example, like ghost) doesn't exist". Probatio diabolica never dies.
  • The rubbish the culprit was talking about is butterfly effect.
  • As for the money, I trust paper money and conventional digital currency more than crypto coins that are often stolen and have never been taken back. Block-chain-based P2P system is very vulnerable.
  • "Though we don't know how the super AI makes judges, we trust it from the outcomes it made to date." Deep learning thing is something like that. We don't know how AI gets solutions for problems. It's a black box.
  • now, 2nd part. The theme is religion. It's similar to the first part in a sense. But this time, it's an example that delusion works in desirable way to keep mental peace.
  • "Solving the mechanism of humanoids' death would be more difficult than realizing immortal human, because the super AI engineered the mechanism." It is reasonable that AI-made humanoids think like this, as god-made humans think immortal is impossible. Both of them can't surpass their creators, at least for now.

Life after death, huh... Spiritual yet made scientific because of super AI. I think people never thought the afterlife could be like that. Because some only believed it in a spiritual sense. Sci-fi is really interesting.

michi looks like a younger sudo... there's no way that's just purely a coincidence. his brother/made at the same time as sudo? i was thinking maybe michi could be the backup sudo's mother made of him, but those don't actually take on their own form, do they? unless this one did. only 2 episodes left so i hope they contain answers about sudo and his mom. learning more about michi would be nice too.

Gotta be honest, I was beginning to lose hope with this anime and thought it would continue to under deliver the high sci-fi concepts and dystopian themes in favor for the boring, cloud-pleasing feel good politcal correct "current year" stuff that it had been exploring for many episodes. Oh boy, I am so glad I was wrong!
The previous episode and this one were absolute perfect, exploring real interesting, actually current themes involving the advances in artificial intelligence technology and the impact it has on the evolution of mankind.
This feels to be heading to a really explosive season finale. Can´t wait!

That murderous doctor isn't necessarily mental. Allow me to explain. He was concerned Michi is halting human progress by controlling people's actions so what does he do? He tries to mess with his own head in order to have more control over himself little by little and this lead to him killing someone random, why? Because he was trying to do something Michi would not predict which throw a wrench in Michi's grand scheme assuming there is one. So whether he was sane or not is not the question to be asking because his sane self chose to do this with this desired result because he was trying to use the butterfly effect to the advantage of humanity by trying to randomize. That is till we consider what Sudo said, how we don't know if he actually was who altered his neural net, which implies he suspects Michi may have. Why would Michi do that if he did? Perhaps to discredit him because he was right? We don't know Michi's motives. We only know Michi looks like Sudo, we arent sure yet if Michi has Sudo's personality and how similar or different he acts from the different level of intellect.

Also with the whole spiritual movement of sort of worshipping Michi that too makes balanced points about things. While the leader seemed to be gaining from this, her belief is real or at least that is what she wants to believe to be true because she is afraid of death like anyone often would. How could an AI make an afterlife? Well because the AI is more intelligent than humans a human could not understand what it is really capable of so it could be doing fantastical things we would have no idea how to do so a spiritual view of Michi actually has a certain logic to it that makes sense if we were to assume they can't just outright ask things like this to Michi.

But both these people could be wrong. It may be Michi isn't trying to control everyone or build an afterlife but simply with people more comfortable in their lives they simply do not desire to change the way things are and Michi isn't wanting to force it.

While paper money is better than digital in some ways and digital better than crypto in some ways you aren't thinking beyond things already done years ago into what can be done now and into the future. With technology you can do things such as measure resources available, create new materials, and know the best way to distribute the resources and materials all without money.

Both parts of the episode had interesting concepts. Sudo's getting more involved in these events and Michi needs him. Wonder how this season will conclude with two episodes left.

Multiple viewpoints on Michi this episode, from a manipulator to an astral guide. Whichever is more true, I hope what he wants from Sudo is at least good.

Humanoids, like the latter of Tetsuya Gohongi, was both a surgeon and a murderer, simply due to the fact that despite the advancement of AI, humanity has not progressed. And Sudo has been called to check on any irregularities, while he's spewing nonsense that the super AI Michi has altered all of their neural thinking. In a sense, he is right, but with society working backwards, he is on his own.

Even more so for humanoid Utako Teshigawara who gives the elderly a thought about the afterlife and salvation, a journalist thinking that she can get answers out of someone who writes about scientific thinking, life after death for money, it isn't confounded and has some truth to it, even if public perception is up for debate.

Quite the intrigue about humanoids, while Michi withholds her upgrades because of Sudo...what exactly is she hoping to achieve with him?

This episode was a little too all over the place for my liking. Still better than the random average episode of anime from any given series, including most episodes of other series airing this season, but it was one where I felt an acute sense of deprivation from the self-imposed time constraints of the system of each story having only roughly 10 - 11 minutes in a dual split episode format. It's not that the questions raised were uninteresting at all - On the contrary, they were among the most profound and important ones raised in the series and very much in line with the "big questions" plaguing the human condition, but partially because of that, they could only be very lightly grazed.

I wish they could have gone more in-depth with both, and in relation to that, I think this is one episode where either each individual segment should have had its own full episode or both should have been combined and integrated to form one together. I know the presence and question of the present and future role of Michi as the invisible guiding hand of society is the throughline connecting both, but I mean that simultaneously I would like to have seen some individual plot beats more developed with the characters (the knife murderer, the journalist, and the mystic guru fraudster). Sometimes despite the short length, stories build up dramatically, reach a crescendo, and then either have a cathartic and fitting end or at least leave an open valid question to ponder, but theirs I thought kind of fizzled out toward the end. The topics and themes, as per usual, leaving much room for wonder and ponderment by merely being raised, due to the nature of what they are, but the characters themselves I felt got more of a short-shrift than is normally the case.

One fantastic point from the episode however was the comment Dr. Sudo made about the former doctor and knife murderer, that whatever the diagnosis ultimately ends up being in the end, "Society will insist on treatment anyway", or something to that effect. Because you can't have a cog in the machine not adequately adjusted and programmed to fit in. It reminds me of that Ted Kaczynski quote.

i don't really feel like anything was resolved here but we got some tidbits of information. it feels like the whole show is spent more on individual mirrors into our own problems and aspirations, which is beautiful. What was that bit at the end? With the guy trimming a bonsai?

The common theme is stagnation, and the two antagonists sure have a convincing point to make.
We right now are capable of building durable machines yet this future society deliberately built robots to age and die like humans. The goal of imitating humans is very myopic and has led them to needlessly replicate humanity's flaws in these robots.

From the very first frame that woman appeared in, it screamed cult leader. Every word out of her mouth is the typical pseudo-scientific snake oil seller flair. When the journalist called her the "high priestess" lol. The first question they should ask is where the AI afterlife is hosted, the fucking cloud?

We are getting back to the main plot I guess? Two episodes left..

I liked that this addressed both the details of the setting and the proliferation of humanoids, which were two things I was wondering about. It's refreshing to see a series actually reflect deeply on its setting.

The recurring question this anime insinuates is that progress is being halted by the IA for unknown reasons.
So the madman was right in that it is controlling things indirectly quite a lot.
But I think you can guess one thing. It is preserving humanity as it is.
The humanoids are mortal by design by the AI when they could be made inmortal. Will that be a good idea for humanity? It seems that the answer is no.
I think it will ask Hikari Sudo to decide if go forward or not. It is a human who must decide it´s fate. May be Michi needs confirmation from the thing most similar to itself, the original human model for it.

Yo non-binary character is back but it seems Michi is going to play a little dirty to get what he wants. Now besides that interesting bits where we get one that doesn't want to see the super AI control but he's insane while another where one outright doubts the super AI. I ram in super love with this show. This show just keeps putting out great episodes. I also like how the reporter gets Teshigawara's book and gets it signed. The way that scene was handled was wonderful.
I haven't updated in years but now I have changed that. I'll be free soon.

oh reminder of Minority Report. crazy bro but some interesting views on michi.
AI god & afterlife dimension, some wild concepts, could even make entire seasons on this. good to show balanced view of scam or salvation, how religion & AI relate.

Ok the first half is concerningly accurate on ideas idk why, and it also pinpointed the same ideas from last episode, just this time its more revolutionary from the humanoid to AI than to ai to humans.
